Moving toward BI

Hi professionals,
I am working in a ALE/IDOC support project and
I am an ABAP certified consultant. Now I am planning to take up BI. I have few doubts,
1. How is the job opening for an ABAP certified + BI certified person with 2+ years of experience in an ALE/IDOC support project?
2. Many say that BI is techno-functional module and no much coding involved. Is that true?
3. Some of my friends go for ABAP-HR certification? Which is good for carrier growth SAP BI or ABAP-HR.? I mean a good, demanding market for a longer time.
Please guide me by clearing these doubts. Reward points is for sureu2026
Thanks in advance.

  • The monitor on my windows XP is concaving. The vertical side middle is moving toward the middle. Does anybody has any suggestions as to what is wrong?

    AS stated the middle of the right side monitor screen is moving toward the middle. Does anyone has a solution. It started this process about five days ago. Thanks.

    try testing with any an other monitor in order to under stand the problem, If it works fine that mean you need to contact Monitor manufacturing / support center to check the problem and get repair. you may also check the manual of that monitor if you bought
    new one and it comes with new pack.
    I am sure you will get some solutions, if you problem still persists that means you can need to check resolution and monitor  in control or try safe mode etc.
    enjoy :)

  • Photo Boxes Flipping then moving towards camera - HELP!!!

    Im in the middle of a project and my client wants the follow animation:
    +An animation seen in many a corporate video and commercial.+
    A grid of Image-boxes on the screen, something like 7 images across by 5 images down. Each box has a changing (photo) image then after a time some of the boxes will disappear to start revealing a logo behind it. Then.. the boxes (changing images) will move forward towards the camera (with motion blur) and eventually disappearing to finally reveal the whole logo (which in turn is also moving towards the camera but stops as the last of the image boxes has disappeared off the screen).
    Hope this makes some kind of sense?!
    Is there a plug in so that that can easily be created? if not, Can someone kindly point me to where there is a step-by-step 'Motion' tutorial for this?
    Many thanks..

    The sophistication of your project determines whether or not Neil's tutorial is valid. A video wall-replicator effects can be transformed into your log assembly with a simple dissolve to another project. Similarly, individual replicator tiles can be masked out to reveal the logo.
    If I were to approach this project in After Effects, I'd storyboard it out with each of the video wall frames built and rendered out as a separate composition. Bringing them all back into a new project and scaling/position them in 3D space with motion blur and other enhancements.
    ONce you begin storyboarding, you can see the amount of work involved. Once you look at the project in terms of hours of work, you can begin to deconstruct the end result and see where you can build in some shortcuts and take some liberties. Once you begin to accept taking liberties as an economic necessity, you can plan them to be hidden by the release medium's inherent limitations.

  • With the GL demise... are people moving towards open source?

    Not a GL expert by any means but I have built several sites that I'm relatively happy with using GL6, this being one of them:
    http://tinyurl.com/ybn8pw
    Yes, it's table based so I realize I'm a dinosaur :)
    With the demise of a staple such as GL and the desire not to jump in again so readily on a commercial product... I wonder how many, if any, have moved to something in the open source CMS arena?
    I ask because I've been tempted to move to something like WordPress using a magazine based theme as the basis of my site and wonder if others have made this move as well?
    As I said, I'm no GL expert... but with a few basic plug-ins and some rudimentary CSS... I've got my site to do a few nice things.
    Not looking to stir the pot, just asking with an eye towards the future.
    Thanks

    I'm using Wordpress, but not as an alternative. I've set up a few blogs and I'm getting into mucking with the php and css to customise designs - it's fun, but unless you stick to canned templates, you need to know some fairly detailed css and get to grips with yet another coding language in php - you don't need to learn all about it, but enough to get comfortable.
    So, another learning curve but it does open up new possibilities. As far as Golive goes, I'll keep using Golive CS2 for the forseeable future, although I'll end up keeping an elderly Mac to run it in the end, along with other older software I don't choose to abandon.

  • Moving toward a click-less OS: a suggestion for improving the Mac interface

    This is a long post, so if you have a short attention span, or are not interested in UI design, have a nice day and move on to the next post!
    A little history first. Back in the days of OS 7 and earlier, I recall a feature lacking from the OS that was really important. For a long time, Apple did not use sticky menus, and you had to use a third-party extension to have the ability to click once on a menu heading and have the pop down menu display and stay there without having to hold the mouse down. Around OS 8 or so I recall that they made sticky menus part of the OS and all applications, and that was a welcome ergonomic improvement. No need to click and hold when we explore menus. What I plan to talk about in this post is a similar improvement -- one designed to facilitate the easy exploration of files and folders while completely eliminating the need to click at all.
    My idea was inspired by another feature of OS 8 (or thereabouts). This was the ability to display the files in a folder as buttons. This allowed the user to launch the application/file with a single click, rather than the ergonomically bad double-click required in previous OS's. (You could still select a file without launching it by clicking the label rather than the icon.) This very useful feature went away in OS X. So one is back to double clicking to launch all documents, photos, movies, or whatever. If you are editing hundreds of pictures in a folder as I am, and double clicking them to launch PREVIEW for a quick inspection, you start to develop problems with the tendons in the wrist. I have to switch hands regularly to deal with the fatigue.
    The elimination of buttons was a huge step backward for me in OS X. It is simply not acceptable to have to double click files to launch them. I think a future OS -- truly improved, not just one with more flash -- must solve this problem. As I thought about how it should be implemented, I realized there is a much better and more general solution than that offered by buttons. One that allows the examination of files without ever clicking at all.
    Imagine a folder with multiple file types: photos, mp3's, movies, text edit files, etc, and assume the files are displayed as icons (although my suggestion would work with list view as well). You see a jpg thumbnails and want to see some of them at full size. Or you see a song and want to hear it, or a movie and want to view it. Now imagine that there is a special "preview" mode which allows you to easily and quickly examine the contents of the files without having to launch them in an application by double clicking, then close the window with another click, go on to the next icon of interest, and do this again, and again, and again until your hand is ready to fall off. Instead, you toggle an assigned key (say F5), or select an appropriate menu choice in the Finder, in order to activate what I shall call dynamic preview mode (DPM). With DPM, whenever you move the cursor over a file icon you get a preview. For example, moving the cursor over a jpg file would immediately expand it to full size on the screen. The image would stay up for as long as the cursor remained over the file's icon (which may not be visible). Moving the cursor off the icon causes the preview image to "collapse" back into the file icon. Moving the cursor over another jpg would cause its image to expand to full size until you moved on to the next, and so on. Note that you are able to view ALL of the jpg images without ever clicking the mouse once, well enough twice. There isn't any way I can think of to make reviewing large numbers of images easier. All you have to do is move the mouse around and the images appear and disappear dynamically, without you doing anything other than moving the mouse. Since you would have to do that anyway to select a file for launching under OS X, DPM brings the effort down to the bare bones minimum (short of using a slide show -- but that has other problems, which is why I don't use it except at the end for the fully edited pics). Think of DPM as a super convenient way to browse images without launching applications, closing windows, double-clicking, and so on. When you find an image that you might want to do something with, say edit the color balance in Photoshop, you then launch it using the appropriate application.
    Of course, applications are indeed launched during DPM. But not in the usual way. No doubt the Preview app would be used to handle the display of the jpg's in DPM but it would be modified somewhat for dynamically viewing images. When the cursor goes over a jpg, Preview opens it and displays it, but not in the usual window with a close box, but just as a simple untitled pane showing the image. And as soon as the cursor moves the pane disappears. Likewise, there is no Preview menu bar showing at the top of the screen, because Preview is only used for dynamic display, not editing of the jpg. Now, the user might want to launch the parent application when placing the cursor over the icon because they want to use the application to do something with it (besides viewing or listening). No problem. We simply design DPM so that when the option key is pressed while the cursor is moved over a file icon, it fully launches the application with the file, just as it now does when you double click the file icon. You get the usual titled window, application menu bar, etc. But note that you get the application running with the file loaded without having to double click. This click-less OS interaction, of course, could be implemented right now since it is a only a minor tweak on the OS.
    What about other file types? Putting the cursor over an mp3 file (or other supported format) would start playing the song, and putting the cursor over a movie file would start playing the movie, again in an untitled pane. Presumably Quicktime would be used to handle both of these latter two tasks, but without launching in the usual way and taking over the menu bar. Putting the cursor over a text or RTF file would display it in a pane (possibly using Text Edit). More complicated file types (word processor, spreadsheet, statistical, etc.) would probably not be supported in a first-generation DPM. But jpg, mp3, mov, txt, and rtf files could be easily handled using just three applications that come with every Mac. Also, "compressed" stickie notes could now be deposited individually anywhere, in any folder or on the desktop, and putting the cursor over the note would expand it to full view. With the current OS, we need to run the stickies app which displays ALL the sticky notes at once, and which constrains them to the desktop only, both of which are serious limitations.
    Of course, once we have DPM users will want to complicate things -- they always do. For example, they'll want the mp3 preview to have a play bar with a bug to position in the song, volume control, etc, just like the Quicktime player. But be careful what you ask for, or we are right back with full fledged apps loading with a menu bar and a window that has to be closed, and that defeats the point of a click-less preview. This is because any interaction the user might wish to have with the viewer or player will require moving the cursor, and in DPM that would normally cause the preview to cease. That's the point, after all. So I would argue that dynamic preview should be kept very simple: cursor on the icon opens a preview, cursor off the icon closes the preview.
    Would this be enormously difficult to do? No. It is already being done -- kind of. For any of the file types discussed above, you can click on the file icon, then press command-I (Get Info), and you will see a preview at the bottom of the info box. If it is a pic, that's all you get. If a song or movie, you can play it. Unfortunately, if it is an rtf file, no preview is displayed -- kind of odd, that. (How hard is it to display some text?) The only thing not offered in the command-I previews for pics and movies is a full (or at least larger) screen preview. But that shouldn't be too difficult since Preview and Quicktime allow that as a matter of course.
    Oh yeah. We can add folder icons to the list of icons supported by DPM. Right now, if I want to quickly peek at some folders just to see what they contain, I have to double-click each one to open it, and then click on the close box to close it again. With dynamic preview activated, all I would do is move the cursor over the folder icon and it would immediately expand to its usual size showing whatever contents can be seen in that view. Moving the cursor would make the folder collapse again. Again, all that is need to examine the contents of folders would be to move the cursor around. That's it.
    (Don't get greedy -- you might want a scroll bar for the folder preview, but that defeats the point of a quick preview and would require cursor movement which, with DPM, would close the folder preview. Again, holding the option key down while placing the cursor over the folder icon could open the folder in the usual way, without needing to double click. But as with option-launched previews for images and the like, you will have to close the preview window yourself.)
    Now, I do not think think dynamic preview should be activated out of the box, at least not at this point. Inexperienced users will be confused to see things popping up on the screen when they are moving the cursor around (or hearing songs). But for experienced users who have thousands of files archived in dozens of folders who need to quickly and easily examine them without the steps required now -- double-click, look or listen, close -- this would be a real improvement in the UI, one that would really make a difference. One, that once a user tried it (just like the first Mac OS) would make them say "I'll never go back!"
    In closing, I must post a question, or fear being chastised for not following discussion group rules. So, what are the technical obstacles to doing what I am suggesting, and who else would like to see it done? (And, yes, I am sending these suggestions to Apple, so no need to tell me that.)

    BDAqua wrote:
    I agree with you totally... except the clickless preview though, since Apple doesn't like to give you options to turn stuff off or not use it at all if they go to the trouble of putting it in the OS!
    Well, they give you the option to display the contents of a folder in list, icon, or column view. So why can't you have the option to view files with and without dynamic previewing? It is the dynamic equivalent (off vs on) of the static options provided by list, icon, and column view. Also, by the logic you give above (for Apple), one should not have preferences, because that makes the functioning of the OS or app different from one user to the next. And as a counter example, the features of the OS for people with disabilities are great to have, but they are not active just because they are there. One has to want to use them...
    And if you think about it, Expose is an optional utility, as is Dashboard. Some people use them, some don't. DPM would be the same.
    Every new OS release makes me spend a lot of time learning how to shut off/disable things like Spotlight, Dashboard, Time Machine, Transparent Dock & Menubar, ad infinitum!
    Me too. Although I have learned to like Spotlight (although it has bugs), and the dock.
    Did I ever tell you Leopard's System Preferences icon in the Dock looks like a Skull & Crossbones to me?
    If you close one eye & squint the other one until it does to you, then you'll get an idea what OSX looks like to me... LOL.
    I tried, but couldn't conjure it up! I must have too limited an imagination.
    BTW, Are you aware you can select as many things to view at once as you want & drag them to say Preview's icon?
    Sure. Have you ever selected several hundred pics and launched preview? Ca-chunk, ca-chunk, ca-chunk, wheez! It is quicker and less demanding of system resources to view one jpg at a time, unless you want to compare them in some way or do a slide show. But for just exploring the files, I want to do it one at a time, especially if iTunes is playing in the background, Photoshop is running and waiting to load a pic that I might decide to edit, mail is up to let me know if anyone is trying to reach me (ding!), Safari is running so I can follow Apple Discussions, etc. In other words, a lot is going on. No need to make matters worse by loading a bunch of pics into Preview, when I am happy to view them singly. This is why I object to the Cover Flow aspect of Quick Look and Safari 4.0. It is just another way to dog down limited system resources.

  • ESX moving toward ESXi

    Hi regards to VMware strategy that for further release it only to utilize Esxi Hypervisor infrastructure, i try to find out information whether the Esxi is supported by SAP on productive use
    from the note Note 1409608 - Virtualization on Windows and Note 1056052 - Windows: VMware ESX 3.x or vSphere configuration guidelines, there is no clear explaination on the Version
    so now should we use ESX 4.1 or Esxi 4.1 ?

    Hello,
    although it is not explicitly mentioned in SAP Note 1409608 and 1122387, ESXi is supported as well. Just make sure that you have a support contract for your ESXi which meets your needs (no free version of ESXi).

  • Moving Toward Flat Networks

    What exactly is meant by a flat network? Please read on before you give a quick answer.
    I have some definite ideas, but I would love to hear other people's inputs, ideas and perceptions.
    The   trend in the data center is to go in the direction of flat networks,  which to me means  that the multi-tiered architectural model can be  collapsed into 2  layers. Juniper says they will collapse the data  center into one tier:  the Stratus project promises the equivalent of  one gigantic logical  switch.
    So, the implication is that there will be a flattening of the network in 2 ways: first, in terms of physical layers of networking and secondly, in terms of creating one logical L2   domain that is horizontally expanded (across data centers, too), but   the redesigned L2 domain will not require STP, blocked uplinks, or   unknown unicast flooding.
    I do require some clarification:
    1.)   How exactly can the access and aggregation layers be flattened? If,  for  example, one can stack all the top of rack (accesss layer) switches  to  create a single virtual chassis and then do the same, or something  similar, like VSS, to the aggregation  layer, the result is that each  layer will see the other layer as one  switch. So, 10 access switches  will look like 1 switch to the  aggregation layer, and 2 aggregation  layer switches will look like 1  switch to the access layer. This will  allow one to create multi-chassis  etherchannels that can expand the  network horizontally, HOWEVER, there  are still 2 layers of networking.
    Does this make sense?
    2.)   The value in spanning L2 domains across data centers in a  services-oriented architecture is clear. It facilitates vMotion and  vStorage and creates clusters of compute and  storage resources, which  can be leveraged for SAN replication, disaster  recovery, cloud  computing (IT/Software as a Service), and running active/active  application services).
    But  does  flattening the network mean that there will be one massive subnet  that  will be considered one broadcast domain? Albeit, unicast flooding  and  ARPs will have to be re-engineered to operate in this environment.  This doesn't seem likely.
    Any   thoughts?
    Thanks

    There are as many ways to skin the cat as you can dream up.
    But clearly you cannot expect to change roles completely and have everything stay the same.. although the Mac should not need to start over.. TM should be able to have multiple setups where it recognises the different network layouts.. at least with ML it can do that. If you are using SL as per your profile.. no.. it has to be manually setup.
    The first obvious solution is this.
    Network B: Mac connects to LAN via a non-Apple wi-fi router; TC connects to Mac via ethernet cable
    Do the same in network A.. Use the Mac by wireless for internet.. and backups to the TC connected directly by ethernet. Do not plug the TC into the network.
    A variation on this.
    You can even do it by ethernet.. simply have a switch and plug in both Mac and TC.. but use the TC on a different IP address. You can set statically double IP on the one ethernet port.
    Even better plug in a USB drive and use that.. it will be faster, more stable, and more reliable for backups than the TC. Leave the TC in network A.

  • No Phone Line for 1 week; moving towards urgent!

    Hello All, I am posting this on behalf of my father.
    Problem
    Phone line has not worked for a week; BT broadband works. Context: he lives along a country lane, nearly all his neighbours are experiencing problems with their phone line, broadband or both. Becoming urgent? One of his neighbour's husband died this week and she has had no phone line to organise the funeral. She now has a mobile phone which she can hardly use, she is very elderly. That example was to illustrate that inaction can really affect people.
    Actions Taken
    1. My Dad phoned the BT fault line. BT (to give them credit) arrived the next day. They checked the wiring inside the house and confirmed the fault lay with BT. They then confirmed that they needed to dig up the road and the job was with 'Planning' and there was nothing more they can do.
    Follow Up
    1) My Dad did not get a reference from the BT guys that initially visited.
    2) He has not heard back from BT of their Planning department.
    3) He has tried to phone Customer Services but ends up in India and gets confused. He is elderly as well.
    4) He did manage to use the Live Chat function last night and communicated the problem on his line. He got a text today to say it was all fixed and his phone would work. He got home and his phone did not work. Something he could not get his head around since BT texted him to say it would be working. Different generation, different values!!
    Conclusion
    I guess I am asking for help or advice. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Illogan,

  • How to smoothly scale movieclip while moving it towards viewer?

    Hi,
    I have a movieclip (mstone) depicting a signpost, which is within another movieclip (graphic1). I am trying to scale mstone to increase by about 44%, and it needs to move along the screen in such as manner that it is moving towards the user. Some how the scale and the x,y coordinates I am providing don't seem to reflect the same way as it normally would, when I see the website live.
    Is there a smooth way to move the clip, without specifying particular x,y co-ordinates?? I am using the _xscale, _yscale, _x and _y properties. Not producing the desired effect.
    Any suggestions on a better way to approach this???
    Thanks

    No, I am doing all the scaling and moving withing the onLoadProgress. Since I am using ActionScript 2, not using any classes...would get too complicated for me...
    Code is something like this:
    ldrlistener.onLoadProgress = function(_mc:MovieClip, loaded:Number, total:Number) {
    var prcnt:Number = Math.floor( ( loaded/total ) * 100 );
    _root.ldrgraphic.mstone._width = 507.5;
    _root.ldrgraphic.mstone._height = 228.1;
    _root.ldrgraphic.mstone._x = 0;
    _root.ldrgraphic.mstone._y = 0;
    if(prcnt==90) {          // for 10, 20, 30, 40 and so on
    trace("loading:90");
    _root.ldgraphic.mstone._xscale += 4.4;
    _root.ldgraphic.mstone._yscale += 4.4;
    _root.ldgraphic.mstone._x = -254;
    _root.ldgraphic.mstone._y = -56;
    _root.ldgraphic.mstone.pertext.text = "10 meters";

  • Moving iTunes library to an external drive converting to different format

    I want to move entire iTunes library to an external drive. I've found several Mac 101's to help but those helps makes no sense. I should be able to move music to another drive and give iTunes the path to find it but that does not work.
    All files are iTunes Plus including everything from Amazon but I want to convert everything to a mp3 or other format so all files are independent of iTunes. Lots of old music from CDs I imported and lots from iTunes as well as Amazon. I guess i could sit and burn everything to a physical cd but that would take months and hundreds and hundreds of cds. Can someone advise how I can convert these files and then move to an external drive?
    I'm running mountain lion and version 10.7 of iTunes. Two external drives and 145 gigs of music. Any guidance will be most appreciated.
    Thanks.

    HI Limnos,
    Thanks for the reply. Something I forgot (age) to mention, this quest to move the library is precipitated by the Mac drive is running out of space. While I still have about 50 gigs of room left, I was thinking I should just plan on opening up the space by moving the iTunes library.
    The other reason is, I read an article about how upon ones death one can not bequeath ones digital music or book files to loved ones.  IE; If all of the music was on LP's, tapes, cd's then this physical format can be left in ones final will. But according to what I read and trying to read the user policy by Apple, Amazon etc when one downloads music or a book or whatever that use policy says we don't own the material we only can read it or listen to it. When we die it dies with us. Several people in the article as well as myself believe this is crap. At one time I was purchasing content and then burning it. I stopped because I thought how silly to burn it, I have back ups on an external drive. Man was I wrong. If I have to I'll sit here in my last days and burn hundreds of cd's.
    So realizing this, I want to take all my music files and save them to another drive as though this drive was hundreds of cd's. That way all those files in some other format can be played independent of iTunes or transfered to one of my kids PC's or a Mac if they get with the program.  If the conversion process destroys the integrity of the file then I have no choice but to burn cd's.
    In my estimation, I'm doing nothing wrong. I bought downloadable music just as if I'd bought cd's. I should be able to throw it away or give to my kids upon my death. The kids can decide what they want to do with it once I'm gone. I now no longer buy any music or books in a digital download. All content is purchased with a physical copy. That said, more content providers are moving towards downloads only or like Amazon and Apple towards the cloud and streaming. I realize all this gets into the fair use act but I think most people are unaware of this issue.

  • Problem in moving Rotated Shape object

    Hi All,
    I want to move the rotated shape object based on the mouse movement
    m able to move the object which is not rotated, but m facing the problem when i move the rotated object its moving position is not correct . I am expecting to maintain both shape objects movement is same, i mean if i did mouse movement to right rotated object moves upwards and normal object moves towards right insted of moving both r moving towards to right.
    Pls help me
    the following code is m using to moving the object

  • Moving from Mobile server v. 10.3.0.2.0 to lastest 11g

    Hi,
    We have 2-300 Windows Mobile 6.1 clients distributed all over Norway. We are now moving towards Android, but for a while we will have to support both WM and Android.
    Currently we are running Oracle Database lite 10.3.0.2.0 (Android client is not out yet).
    How can we migrate to Mobile server 11g with the least effort (for the users)? Do we need to upgrade to 10.3.0.3.0 first, or can we go directly to the latest Mobile server 11g?
    Our Oracle database was upgraded to 11g (11.2.0.3.0) a while ago.
    Thanks,
    Marius

    we installed a fresh new oracle 11.1.0.6.0 then we installed the 10.3.0.3 , our database expert set up the environment correctly on windows 2003 server with java version (java -version)
    1.4.2_03-b02. then we started installing the patches as they came out (we installed a second java version for those but didnt change the java home so that olite still works with the 1.4.2 version) i think we installed like 5-6 patches (as they came along during the months). when we had to go to a client install or we needed to create a new testing/development server we just copied the entire server from the vmware and paste it into a new server then loggin change the ip manual and we had a new server. this way we could install a customer server in his environment in less than 4-5 hours (actually the copy paste takes like 4 -5 hours and then you need minor adjustments for his domain which take like 5 minutes).
    our clients are windows mobile 6.1-6.5 our apps are .net 3.5 on intermec and motorola handheld devices(rugged). we had some problems with the unicode characters and the set up for our localized (greek) characters but our database expert set the database with the correct language page (i think it was 1253 for us) and then we set it also on the windows mobile-olite and we got passed that issue too.
    i know this doesnt help you much but (im not an oracle expert, nor oracle rep) if i were you i wouldnt try to migrate from olite 10.3.0.2 to 10.3.0.3 . if i were you i would install a fresh 11g+10.3.0.3 and overwrite the entire server. the reason is that if you search this forum you will find many posts from people asking help about migrating from one version of olite to another. they report many problems. so why not make a fresh install? you can later migrate all the database tables your self.
    but if you need to go from 10.3.0.2->10.3.0.3 the link i sent you gives some info, if your problem persists i guess you need to ask for help from oracle, perhaps open a service request,(or perhaps search for a similar post here, if your lucky:) ).

  • Making a moving/running backround

    Hey guys, I am a beginner in Adobe After Effects, and I just finished my first intro for all my videos. However, my background just sits there. Is there any way to make the dots move like a conveyor belt moving towards the back?
    here is my background
    Thanks,
    TsterT

    Ok, here's a step in the right direction, but beware that
    without a fundamental knowledge of after effects some of this may seem a bit complex:
    Looking at what you've created, if I wanted to translate that to the type of animation that you want, I would first create a dot comp.  That's a comp that just has your source dots in it.  Could be done any number of ways: photoshop, illustrator, shape layers or masks inside of AE, whatever.  But these dots are laying flat, undistorted in any way.
    Then I would take that comp into another comp, and to get the horizontal motion I would try the effect: stylize->motion tile.  Adjust the output width property so that your dots now tile horizontally, and you are able to animate the x-position for your dots comp.
    Then I would put this animated dots comp into a 3rd, master comp, where I would first try something like a distort->mesh warp to get the shape you are after (play with the settings, grab the warp points on the stage and move them around...my thought is that the less rows and columns you have the cleaner the distortion will be).  I would also play with something like corner pin (this will create a different, but possibly interesting distortion), and I might even try the puppet tool to shape it, although the puppet tool needs to mature a little bit before it can cleanly and efficiently handle something like this.
    In doing this, you will have your dots layer animating, and the distort will take care of the custom shape you want.  To get that reflection you may want to take that master comp into a FOURTH comp, duplicate it, set the y scale to a -100% (or whatever) and then try effect->transition->linear wipe and play with the settings in there to get that soft falloff.
    This is not the only way it can be done, and it may not even work exactly as you'd like, but again if I were doing it, this is where I would start.
    I hope that helps
