Moving Tracks Up Or Down?

Is it possible to move a track up or down? I have a video with many tracks and I've been using the fact that the top-most track has precedence. Now I want to make a track lower on the list the top-most. Is it possible to move it to the top or does one have to create a new track and move all the clips up there?
TIA,
---JC

JC,
Is there a way to see the 'real' track number along side the track -name-? I rename my tracks 'Narrator', 'Wideshot', etc. but then when adding new tracks, the tracks are referred to by their -number-. I wish I could see -both- side by side so when I add a track I know where it's going without having to count the track #s.
Not that I am aware of. I also rename all of my Tracks, especially my Audio Tracks. You might want to rethink your naming convention, and say do "1 Camera 01," etc. That would get your number out front, so you do not have to expand the Track header to see it all. I do similar with my Audio Tracks, as I find them more difficult to keep a handle on. For me, it's AV Audio 01, SFX Mono 01, SFX Mono 02, SFX Stereo 01, Music Front 01, etc.
Video Tracks are often left with just the PrPro Track numbers, until I get to Track Matte, or Lower Third 01 Titles.
Just remember that the Track numbers in PrPro go up from the bottom for Video Tracks and down from the top for Audio Tracks. When you do go to Add Tracks, look at the drop-down menu for positions relative to the targeted Track.
Good luck, and sorry that there's now a really easy way to do much of this.

  • Moving tracks up and down...?

    So easy to do in PS AE etc, but a real mystery in PP...
    And is it possible to insert a track?
    Cheers!

    But that is ridiculous. Moving tracks or layers is standard practice in so much other software.
    I assume you're talking about software like After Effects or Photoshop, which contain "layers" and not "tracks" in the way that Premiere Pro, and any other editor for that matter, have them . Perhaps it's a semantic difference, but it's an important one: in Adobe software, a "layer" contains one and only one footage item or graphical element, whereas a "track" can contain one or more footage items or graphical elements. In After Effects, you HAVE to seperate footage items by both time (X-axis) and stacking order (Y-axis)--that's simply how it works. However, with Premiere, you only necessarily have to seperate footage items by time (X-axis)--if you can do everything on one track, so be it.
    If you were able to drag tracks up and down in the stacking order (Y-axis), you may be able to achieve the layering effect you want at a certain point in time in your sequence, but you would also change the stacking order for the entire duration of the sequence. This may be what you want, or what you don't want, but I would submit that most people would never need this kind of functionality. How often does one need to completely rearrange the stacking order of an entire sequence? I know that I never need this; it's only small portions of time where I need to rearrange items on the Y-axis. I just think this capability would be so rarely needed that there is no point adding it; it could potentially cause more trouble than good.
    I'm currently working on something that has (at its peak) five small windows with different clips with lots of edits running with their own effects. At times I've wanted to reprioritise a track (to put it above another) so just draggng a track up would have been a quick way of doing it.
    You might consider nesting each track (or track segment) in its own sequence, so at least you're only dragging one element up and down, instead of multiple small clips. Just add one empty track to serve as a temporary landing zone, that you can move an individual nest into, and then continue to reshuffle until you get the order you want. I realize this isn't what you really want, but it's the best workaround I can think of.
    How disappointing - and a shame the project is too long for AE!
    Why is it too long for AE? After Effects has something like a 3 or 4-hour limit to a comp, which I imagine would be pretty difficult for most people to exceed. It would be a bit of a pain to manage, I suppose, but you could do it.
    Alternately, if you've got the suite and therefore Dynamic Link, just select the clips in the section of timeline you're trying to work with, and select Replace with After Effects Composition. That chunk of timeline will be sent to AE and the clips will be stacked as individual layers in the same order they're in in the PPro sequence. From there, you can organize and reorganize things to your heart's content, and that will be reflected in your PPro sequence. You may want to consider creating nested sequences in PPro first, because those will be recreated in your AE comp as nested precomps. Might make layer management a bit more friendly.

  • Automate moving tracks through JDI's CMS

    I would like to automate moving tracks through the JDI CMS (Change Mangement Service Transport Studio.)  Does anyone know if there is any documentation available to set this up?

    Hi Tracey,
    yes there is a possibility and I will hopefully write a blog about it soon.
    But here is the short version:
    Try the cmstool which is a commandline tool for the CMS. It is found in the eclipse/tools directory of your SAP NW Studio IDE and it comes with a readme how to use it.
    With the tool you can import to any queue, assemble, approve etc. I use it in my nightly build scripts. (I use SP14 but it is still a bit buggy)

  • EEM Script to reload router only once after tracked object is down.

    event manager applet vpn_tunnel_unreachable

    I need it to reload only once if tracked object 456 is down. It should reload the router and then if the tracked object is still down it should go into dial backup as it normally would if it did not have the reload script.

  • Moving items up and down in a JList

    Hello I posted this query in the wrong forum and so now I am trying to correct the problem Here is the link
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5267663&tstart=0
    Hi-
    I have a problem with moving selected items up and down in a JList..
    When I select an item in the JList and press ctrl + (the up or down arrow key),
    I want the selected item to move up (or down).
    My code works. That is to say it does what I want, only the highlighted item does not correspond to the selected item.
    When I move an item up I would like it to remain selected, which I guess it is as repeated moves will move the item.
    But it does not appear to be working. because the highlight is above the selected item when moving up and below the selected item when moving down.
    Here is my code:
    public class MyClass  implements MouseListener,KeyListener
    private JList linkbox;
    private DefaultListModel dlm;

                jlist.setSelectedIndex(pos+1);
                jlist.requestFocus();
    }Now for some reason this works better.
    I notice that the highlight does follow the selection but there is also something else there.
    Still in my original version the highlight seems to appear where the dotted lines are?
    There seems to be dotted lines around the item above or below the selected item (depending on whether you are going up or down).
    Any thoughts at this point would be appreciated.
    -Reg.
    Can anyone explain to me why this is so and if it can be fixed?
    If any one can help I would be grateful,
    -Reg

    You seem to be making a genuine effort. Key Bindings like anything else involves getting familiar with the code and the idiosyncrasies involved and just playing with the code yourself. To get you started, if the JList were called myList I'd do something like this for the up key:
            KeyStroke ctrlUp = KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_UP, InputEvent.CTRL_DOWN_MASK);
            myList.getInputMap().put(ctrlUp, "Control Up");
            myList.getActionMap().put("Control Up", new AbstractAction()
                public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                    // do stuff to move your item up
            });Please read the tutorial for details, explanation, etc...

  • Recording a class of 30 kids singing to a guitar track I laid down on Garage Band. Severe distortion because they have to hear the guitar track through a set of speakers..

    I had a big setback today on a project I've been working on.  I recently made my first recording of my own playing and singing, a guitar track and a vocal track of a children's song.  When I recorded the guitar track, it took me a whole day to get it right.  I used the metronome through earbuds.  Then I listened to the guitar track and sang into a Snowball mike to get the vocal track down.  Played separately or together, they came out crisp, clear, no dostortion.  I made a CD of the song by sending the song to iTuines, with and without my voice so the children could practice to it.  I taught the song to 30 fifth graders so I could add a vocal track of them singing.  My plan is to use it as the music for a slideshow I'm making for their elementary graduation.  I'm a mom, not their teacher.  The teachers of the two classrooms have been generous in letting me teach the kids the song, and setting up 45 minutes for me to record it.  Did the recording of the kids today at the school.  Two tracks of all 30 kids doing their very best to cooperate.  They sang well.  I opened the garage Band file at home and it is such poor quality audio that it is UNUSABLE.  There's a lot of fuzz and distortion.  I can probably get their teachers to let me have them again to give it another try, but I better get it right. When I recorded my own voice to the guitar track, I monitored using earbuds.  I can't hook 30 kids up to my Macbook with earbuds. I played the guitar track from speakers and held the microphone out toward them, so the mike was between the speakers and the kids. The speakers and mike both faced the kids.  They sang really well, so it was pretty disappointing to find the recording sounded so bad.  My guitar teacher tried to help me figure out what to do, but he thinks it is going to be very tricky to get it right since the kids have to hear the guitar track to sing it.  I'm considering playing the CD I made of the guitar track from a boom box behind the kids and just recording the kids on a separate project file and losing the ability to edit, and probably losing most of the guitar quality and volume.  But I won't know if it works until I have 30 kids and 2 teachers and all my gear set up to actually try it.  Whatever I do, it has to work on my next try.  There's very little time left and no budget.  I thought my Macbook Pro and the Snowball, purchased at the Apple Store, would be enough.
    Please advise.  Thanks.

    Very difficult recording situation. I would probably just record the kids with you playing live guitar.
    You could do the boombox with the kids and set it up so the kids hear the guitar but try to get as little as possible of the prerecord guitar on the the track. Then either mix the kids recording with the original guitar track or add a guitar track to the kids track later.
    When you do the recording of the kids bring headphones to monitor levels. Also make sure you're happy with the track before you leave the school.

  • DataGrid Moving rows up and down

    I have this function to move rows up in a datagrid , yet i am having problems when it comes to move to rows down. I have tried changing the following line to +1 but it dint work any hints please.
                ac.addItemAt(itemToShift,dg.selectedIndex-1);
    This is the code
    public function up():void
                if(dg.selectedIndex == -1)
                    Alert.show("Select the row which you want to up.");
                    return;
                if(dg.selectedIndex == 0)return;
                var selectedRowInx : Number = dg.selectedIndex;
                var itemToShift : Object = ac.getItemAt(selectedRowInx) as Object;
                ac.addItemAt(itemToShift,dg.selectedIndex-1);
                ac.removeItemAt(dg.selectedIndex);
                dg.invalidateDisplayList();

    Okay.  So, I made the code a little simpler than what I said. With my code, you could have selected a row, clicked a cut button, then selected a another row to past afterwards or whatever.  Here is the code for simply moving the row up and down.
    I added code to catch if the row was at the top or the bottom of the data.  Also, I created two indexes, one for the grid and one for the array collection.  It will probably work with the one index, but I was trying to see if I could do the move on a sorted datagrid, but that is basically pointless.
    protected function moveUpBtn_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
    var upSelectedIndex:int = myDataGrid.selectedIndex;

    protected function moveDownBtn_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void

    if(downSelectedIndex > -1) {
      // Move Item

  • ICal keeps moving all my entries down

    I'm using iCal 6.0 on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.8.5, and repeatedly running into this problem where all my entries will move down slowly, as in they all move to later and later times.  I'm not sure what and when the incremental moves take place, I've caught it twice now when I needed to look back at past weeks and found them all moved again.
    It's a major pain to readjust them to their oringinally entered times every time and I need them to stay put for archival purposes, but if I have to continually go back and readjust them all the time, I don't think I can rely on iCal at all.
    Anyone have this problem?  When searching for it I didn't find any similar entries.  Any ideas?  Thanks

    If you have the cable for both phones, you can use the Nokia Ovi Suite. This would save more time and effort and you can also have the copy saved in your Ovi Suite. All you have to do is to synchronize the contacts of your N73 to the Ovi Suite, then after that, synchronize it to the 2330Classic.

    Hope this helps!

  • Moved 0.8 miles down the road, internet speed appa...

    Although I lived in a village Speedtest.net would report 5 Mbps with ~50ms latency and I could get download speeds of 700KB/s in practice too. After moving 0.8 miles to the next village down I get almost 100ms ping and 0.7Mbps download.
    I tried connecting via LAN to make sure it wasn't exclusively a WiFi problem. I hooked the router into the test socket. I tried using an older router I had (BTHomeHub2), all with no improvement.
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search tells me that both postcodes belong to the same telephone exchange.

    Hi pucilowski,
    As john46 has said, you will stand a much better chance of getting help on here than you will from India.
    In addition to the information requested by john46 to help you, I would make the following points.
    When you say "down the road" do you mean further from the exchange ?
    Do both villages share the same green street cabinet ?  If you don't know, or if you have taken your old number with you, you can get a good indication by entering phone numbers for each village here :- https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html.
    It does not mean the phone line follows the most direct route.
    The quality of the line could be different up to the properties and within them.
    The CL's and mods on here have a great record for solving problems.

  • Moving tracks onto a new computer.

    I just purchased meself a new desktop computer to replace my laptop which is slowly dieing a death, but all my tracks are on my laptop and I'm unsure how to go about transferring them over, without having to reburn all my old cds.
    When I plug my ipod into my new pc obviously it brings up the track listings on the library, but is there anyway of being able to make the tracks permanantly move into the library on the new pc?
    any help would be much appreciated

    There are a few things you could do, from networking the two computers, using an external hard drive or even using your iPod to make the move. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
    If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
    You can also copy the songs directly from the iPod, though moving the iTunes folder is the best way to maintain all of your settings, ratings etc. There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
    If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

    I have a battery toy ... which I have recorded the sound from. This goes on to an animation and I need the track to distort and speed up and then slow down as for winding down... any help please would be very welcome.
    Also it goes underwater from time to time.....

    Go to applications > utilities > activity monitor
    Sort them by cpu usage and if there are programs that are taking up a massive amount of cpu, then you should quit those apps. If you are watching videos on the internet (especially youtube videos) that will take up a lot of cpu.

  • Can't select number and type of tracks from drop down menu!

    When I create an empty project you are supposed to be able to select the number and type of tracks you want from a drop down menu. This menu worked when I opened logic for the first time. In subsequent new projects this window does not drop down fully and I'm unable to make any selections!
    Can anyone help?

    Thanks for your replies.
    I tried Eriksimon's solution which worked the first time i re-opened Logic, but reverted back to how it was everytime after that!
    As you'll know when you launch Logic you get prompted to choose a template, so i slect empty project, then when the main window opens you're prompted with New Tracks drop down/pop out box. What I should get is a choice of Type - Audio, Software Instrument and External MIDI with another section underneath with Format, Input, Output etc... All i get is Number of tracks to choose and External MIDI as the only option! Even if i create the track any subsequent tracks are all External MIDI, no other options!
    When i installed Logic i left off the Jam packs as i'm short on HD space at the minute, i don't think this would be the cause but it's the only thing i've left out of the installation. If i have to re-install i will, but it took nearly 2 hours!

    Dont let me down MSI..........

    You need to be sure to lower your HT multiplier to 3 if you're going to go above 250 ht. Just remember to keep the HT but running right around 1000 (the product of your ht multiplier multiplied by your ht speed.
    For instance, if you're going to run your processor at 2.4Ghz your HT will have to be 267 Mhz. With the default HT muiltiplier of 5 that will give your a HTT of 1335 Mhz which is way to ohigh. If you lower that down to 3, it'll be 798 which is much closer. It is a toss up between 3 and 4 depending on if 4 is stable (267*4=1068). I ran my Neo4-F at 1068 HTT and 2.4Ghz for a long time with no stability issues.
