Moving video clips out of iphoto?

Hi, I store my video clips in iphoto but need to free up space on my hard drive so want to move them to a portable hard drive. I've looked in Finder but can't seem to find the video clips. Where are they stored?
Thank you.

I don't know of any way to check how much space you'll save except by adding them up manually.
You can find all the movies in your Library easily:
File -> New -> Smart Album
Keyword -> is -> Movie
Will get them.
If space is an issue, you know you can move your entire iPhoto Library to an external?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How do you add video clips to an iPhoto slideshow?

I've made a slideshow for my daughter's graduation. I tried to include a couple of video clips in it, but when the slideshow gets to the first one the screen goes black and the video doesn't play. How do I do this the correct way? I use iPhoto '11

Do the video clips play in iPhoto at all?
What theme for the slideshow are you using?
Where are the video clips from?
Are you using any transitions between slides particularly the video clip?
Have you tried putting the video clip in a slideshow by itself and see if it will play?

  • How can I store my video footage in one library? Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Currently I have video clips in itunes, iphoto, movies folder, imovie, imovieHD... probably some duplicates, How can I clean this up?

Yeah, this is frustrating for me, too. I tried a few different variants: keeping everything in Aperture, keeping only videos in iPhoto, keeping videos in Movies folder, etc. Reason being I'd like to be able to sync some videos back to the iPhone will keeping access available for iMovie - which is tougher than it should be. Now that the iPhone does HD videos, Apple needs to either adjust iPhoto to work with videos better or work with iMovie to actually function as a movie database as well as editor.
For now, I, too, have my stuff strewn about on my Mac but I'm trying to consolidate as much as I can into iMovie events on an external drive. I have a bunch of video clips of my 2 year old and I've decided to just group them by year and then put together an edit of each to then put into iTunes so I can view them on AppleTV as well as sync to my iPhone. I figure I won't ever sit down and watch every single clip so I might as well put together the "highlights".

  • How do I add a video clip to my iPhoto slideshow?

In an iPhoto slideshow, I want to add a video clip.  If I select cut then I need to click paste but that option does not come up.

First just drag the clip and drop it onto the slideshow title in the left hand pane.  The you can postiion it where you want in the slideshow itself.

  • Soundtrack clip pushing video clips out of place

What am I doing wrong? I've added mp3 sound clips ok until now, when I'm finding the track I insert on the soundtrack bar pushes all the video clips to the right for the distance of the sound clip.
If I put track at the end, I've tried right clicking the intervening blank space when I get the supposed option to 'delete and close gap'. But doing that does nothing.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Tim (PE10, Win 7).

    Tim,
    Great news! Thanks for reporting.
It's interesting, at least to me, that PrE chose the Ripple Edit as the default, where Insert Edit is the default in PrPro. The Ctrl modifier key toggles to the other method in each program, but they are just the opposite of each other. I often have to stop and think which program I am in, and watch the Cursor, to see which mode I am in. Guess that the PrE developers figured that the average user would want Ripple, while the PrPro developers decided their user-base would want Insert.
For the MP3's, many work fine. I do not like the MP3 compression, so avoid it, should I be creating the Audio. I stick with the larger, but higher-fidelity PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. When one has an issue with an MP3, converting, with, say Audacity, to PCM/WAV w/ those specs., usually solves the issues. I rather do that out of habit, problems or not, and only use MP3's for some SFX files, which are small. I just never use MP3's for music, or for dialog.
    Good luck and happy editing,

  • Moving Video Clips from iPhone 4 to iPad

Is there an easy way to move video clips from an iPhone4 to the iPad? I tried sending the videos to MobileMe but when I view them on the iPad, there is no download option offered. I want to move the clips to the iPad to do video editing on a larger screen.

Sometimes the simplest approach is the best...The camera connection kit works fine.

  • Moving video clip from track to track

I need to move a video clip from track to track precisely.  How do I do that?
Also, is there a way to combine 2 tracks?

For the "combination" of two Tracks, when you Export, all Tracks will be "combined." The upper will overprint all below. Can you be a little more specific on exactly what you wish to accomplish with the "combining?"
Now, one can Nest Sequences into one, if that is what you need.
    Good luck,

  • IMovie Freezes All The Time when I have video clips in my iphoto why ??

I am soooo stressed out I am trying to find a way to keep my iphoto movie clips in iphoto but when I do that I can't open my iMovie it will just freeze and I get the beach ball of death ! Is there a way to fix that other than deleting all my videos from iphoto ? If that's what I have to do what is the point of having iphoto to organize anything or imovie for that matter; if I can't even use it without encountering problems.

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,

  • Premiere Element 12 when moving video clips. HELP me Rhonda!

I am currently running Windows 7 (Professional) and I downloaded Premiere Element 12 off Tech Soup so I could make a short video for my company. I am working on a specific project and I have done a considerable amount of editing already. When I try to renegotiate  the positions of various clips- an "error" message appears and then the program shuts down. Is my computer incompatible??? HELP! I don't want to lose all the work I have done. Also, I am so desperate I would be willing to buy the software all over again and put it on my mac-laptop but that would be my last resort! Has anyone else encountered this problem?
[Moved from Premiere PRO to Premiere Elements... Mod]

Thanks for the reply. Let us see what we can do with what you have.
When I asked about computer resources, I was asking about how much installed and available RAM the computer has, how much free hard drive space, the processor and the clock speed. Most of that you can get by right clicking the word Computer and selecting Properties.
    About your alternative plans...
Your Premiere Elements 12 Windows project is not going to work on Premiere Elements Mac (whatever version)
If you export your Premiere Elements 12 project to a .mp4 file (Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with one of the .mp4 presets), you can import that into a Premiere Elements Mac project. However, that is a whole video which will need trimming to make significant further edits.
No guarantees, but your Premiere Elements 12 Windows project file should open in Premiere Elements 13 Windows. But, work with a copy of the Premiere Elements 12 Windows project as a safety net.
This is what I would like you to do.
Can you open that Premiere Elements 12 Windows project that shutdown when you were moving clips around in the Edit area of the program? If so, open to the Expert workspace. Have you placed audio transitions in the Timeline content? If so, remove them and determine if the problem is gone, is the same, or gets worse.
Also, what specific media were you moving around when the crash took place? If you can open the project, can you delete and re-import the file(s) in question? What Timeline tracks are you using and which were involved in this incident?
I am particularly interested in the answer to the last question to use the answer as a point to start the troubleshooting.
Please let me know if you need clarification on the above.
We will be watching for further developments and will keep close track of your posts.

  • How do I get video clips out of menu button?

    iMovie 9.0.8  iDVD 7.1.2
I have a 90 minute video with 11 chapters.  I found in "edit" menus something called populate drop zones" and clicked it for main page and two sub menu pages.  When trying to burn,  I got the error message "- There seems to be too much motion menu content in your project. Correct this problem before you continue burning this project."
Fine, I'll take out the damned videos out of the menus....BUT HOW?  There seems to be no way to "unpopulate drop zones"  I tried dragging a photo into the menu buttons without success.
I shouldn't have to start over and wait another hour for iDVD to read my iMovie project every time there is some change to make to drop zone content.

Sounds like Revolution and there's only one dropzone in the top menu.  Type Command + i to bring up the info window for that menu.  The dropzone will be the one in the middle:
It'll be the same for the submenus.
iDVD allows up to 15 minutes of playing time in motion menus.  If you're referring to the buttons for the individual chapters you can change the button type to just text.  Or if the video in the drop zone is longer than 15 minutes just add a still photo to the drop zone instead of a movie.
You can get an idea of  the total menu playing time in the Project Info window:

  • Moving video clips efficiently

I made a 5 hour movie containing 3 high school basketball games played 20 years ago (28-0 team yeh for us. :] ) . I added effects such as slow motion and titles flashing score and player names after each basket. It is 114 GB. I now realize that a DVD cannot hold 5 hours worth of information. I have 2 questions.
1 - If each game contains 100 + clips (as I have split video at playclip a lot obviously) then the 3 games have about 300 clips totaling 5 hours. If I need to make each game a separate iMOVIE (approx. 40 GB each) how do I efficiently extract the 2 games' worth of clips that I do not need? I have thought about making extra backup copies of 5 hour iMOVIE and then simply deleting 2 games worth of footage. Then I could export the one game to make a DVD. I am nervous about highlighting and grabbing all the clips and shoving onto panel. I am not sure if all the clips will stay in the correct order. My clips panel is stock full of clips as well. It would seem tedious to grab each clip one by one and drag to clips panel in correct order. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THERE WAS SOME BLOCKER ICON OR SOMETHING I COULD DRAG TO MOVIE PANEL THAT WOULD INSTRUCT THE COMPUTER WHEN TO START EXPORTING CLIPS TO MAKE DVD AND WHEN TO STOP. I DON'T THINK THIS FUNCTION EXISTS BUT AM MENTIONING IT JUST IN CASE THERE IS SOMETHING SIMILAR I CAN DO.
2 - If each game is about 1 hour and 45 minutes should I be concerned that 40GB (approx. amount of each game) will not export properly to make a DVD. I don't know if 40 GB. approx. will fit onto a DVD even if it is less than 2 hours. FYI - I DO NOT have dual layer burning capabilities on my Powerbook G4.
    Thanks,

    Thank you Klaus1.
    I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS.
    Per your suggestion:
1 - Do I lose quality by having to export to Quicktime, then re-import to a new iMOVIE and then make an iDVD? I don't have Roxio and don't want to lose any quality.
Based on what you wrote it appears that even when I highlight selected clips - say 100 or so for the first basketball game - I cannot make those selected clips into a DVD. I need to export to Quicktime and then re-import into iMOVIE and then make a DVD. The key concept is I am only highlighting the first games' clips and leaving the other 2 games unselected as they would push the project over 2 hours per DVD. I worry that I lose quality through the method you suggest. It has been so long since I made a DVD but I don't think you typically have to export to a Quicktime file to make a DVD. I thought you were suggesting this as a way to somehow get my first basketball game (100 clips) in a separate iMOVIE in order to make a DVD of the 1 game.
My friend wrote this to me and I wanted to ask you my 2nd question based on it.
"As long as you keep you running time for each DVD to under 2 hours, you should be good and should not have to worry about the size of your original video footage. It will all be compressed to MPEG-2 format for DVD, and your source could be anything, even HD. So your original footage can be downright gigantic and it will still compress down for DVD. The only space requirements you need to be concerned with is the compressed size. When you compress for DVD, you choose your quality. The higher the quality, the higher the file size. When I create a DVD with footage that's 30 minutes long, I compress with high quality/large file size because it will still fit. If I'm squeezing 2 hours onto a DVD, I compress with low quality/small file size so it'll fit. You'll likely have to choose the lowest quality setting if you're really squeezing a lot in."
2 - I DO NOT HAVE A DUAL LAYER BURNER... BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IF I TRY TO MAKE A DVD BASED ON A BASKETBALL GAME THAT IS ABOUT 1 HOUR AND 45 MINUTES (4O GB) THE QUALITY WILL BE LESS PER WHAT MY FRIEND SAI. SO MY 2ND QUESTION IS IF I BOUGHT AN EXTERNAL DUAL LAYER BURNER WOULD IT BE COMPATIBLE WITH THE LATEST VERSION OF IDVD WHICH I HAVE AND WOULD IT ALLOW ME TO MAKE A HIGHER QUALITY DVD (AS DUAL LAYER ALLOWS YOU TO GET 4 HOURS ON ONE SIDE).
FEEL FREE TO TELL ME IF YOU THINK THE QUALITY WILL BE LESS WHEN I TRY TO PUT ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES OF FOOTAGE (40 GB) ON ONE DVD SINGLE LAYER.
    Thanks,
    Todd

  • Moving Video Clips

For some reason, I cant not drag movie clips from the event library to the project library. I can only add them using the add to the last clip button. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Jim

You can label your music videos as such (in the "Get info" page), but you can't do anything for the others.
Hopefully they'll let us label our TV Shows as such in the future.

  • How to make iPhoto video clips appear in iMovie 11 under "iPhoto Videos"

I use photo camera to shoot both stills and videos these days. I would like to just see all my clips in iMovie.
I tried to use Import but it is very painful to use as iMovie PRETENDS it knows nothing about iPhoto photo library. So monkying around and drugging clips out of iPhoto "bundle" is huge hustle.
Is there is a streamline way?
Apple historically make hard to do, I even had to use iMovie HD and Handbreak to to all these conversion, but I just want things to work: I want to make a cool clip to share from my iPhoto library clips.
Is there is a easy way to do it?

Normally, any compatible clips in iPhoto show up in iMovie in the Events Library under the category "iPhoto Videos". You will see this item at the top of the list in the Events Library. Clicking on it will reveal thumbnails for each clip in the Events Browser (to the right of the listing). Are you not seeing this?
If this is not the issue, you could try converting the iPhoto clips by using a program such as MPEG Streamclip. If recognised by Streamclip, convert the clips to either H.264 or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and import the converted file into iMovie. Both these formats work well with iMovie - AIC is in fact the codec that iMovie converts AVCHD clips to in order to edit efficiently at the individual frame level.
MPEG Streamclip is a free program downloadable here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    John
PS. Regarding the conversion, I notice that you've already tried iMovie HD and Handbrake - sorry! Perhaps MPEG Streamclip will do this more efficiently.

  • Help viewing video clips in iphoto 08.

I recently downloaded both photos and video clips taken from my iphone 5 and downloaded to my mac OSX 10.6.8 computer (as I have many times before.) I quickly discovered that I can no longer view video clips in the iphoto 08 program as I have always been able to do.  Why?  Typically, I would double click on video clip and it would play in iphoto.

I can commiserate about the bad disk drive, because I went through that.
The latest version of iMovie is 9.01 (also known as iMovie 11).
About your movies in iPhoto...did iMovie see them before? Were you on iMovie 11 before?
Will they play in iPhoto? If they will play in iPhoto, chances are you can import them into iMovie. Note where they are in iPhoto by using right-click (or control-click)/Reveal in Finder.
In iMovie, use FILE/IMPORT FROM.../ to find that file and import it.
If your laptop is less than three months old, it may have come with iMovie 11. If it is older, it probably had iMovie 09. iMovie 11 came out in late October.
If you were on iMovie 11 before, then reinstalling iMovie should make iPhoto movies visible again, assuming they were not corrupted in some way. When you convert to iMovie 11 it upgrades the thumbnail files (but not the video clips) in such a way that is not backward compatible.

  • IPhoto video clips does not work in iMovie

I just installed Leopard and ilife '08 into my MAC.
The video clips from my iPhoto library are not shown properly in iMovie. I'm only able to hear the sound of the clip but unable to watch it. when i skim through the clip, i don't see anything on the viewer, i just hear skimming through the sound. when i tried to play the clip, just the sound began to play. even the thumbnail does not show a picture of the clip, its just grey.
    Can someone help me please???

Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 44.100 kHz
As post in your other topic, this looks like it should be compatible.
I've captured video from my built-in isight camera in my MacBook. when i was trying to skim through or play the video clip in iMovie, the clip didn't appear in the side viewer. I am able to hear the voice of the clip and even see the thumbnail clearly but not in the viewer.
This sounds like part of your original problem. Suggest you try importing the same files to an alternative platform and/or possibly an alternative user account to see if the problem is "global" on your system and "limited" to your system only. Suspect you may have a bad install or corrupted application that may simply be generating unusable "thumbnails" here. You basically need to isolate the problem to see if it is in OS and/or application. For instance, did you update to iMovie v7.1 before or after installing Leopard or better yet, have you installed all of the updates?
