Moving website to a new .Mac account

I have made a website for my husband using iWeb and my .Mac account - very pleased with it etc, but have changed today to Family membership of .Mac. Is there anyway I can move his website to his own sub-account to free up my account for my own website?
I have tried copying the Sites folder from my iDisk to his, but I don't have enough priviledges??!!
Just a G4 iBook now...   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi weaseldropping,
I have never played with the family pack, but here is my theory!
Set up a Second User account on our Mac for your husband (If you haven't done so already) and copy this file to the same location in the second user:
User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites
The domain file contains your whole website
If you have just created the second user account, launch iWeb before moving this file, this will create the /iWeb folder and a domain file. You can delete the new domain file and drop in the domain file from your original user.
Once you have got a domain file in place, you need to set up his .mac details in Applications/System Preferences > .Mac.
Now when he publishes from the second user it should publish to his area on the iDisk.
There is some general info here: http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/2Sites1Mac.html

  • Can you move mail folders from an old .Mac account to a new .Mac account?

I hope someone can help since even the Mac Genius at the Apple Store nor Applecare seem to know.
Due to massive spam to my .Mac account & it's alias accounts I opened a new .Mac account before my old account died. However, without any answers my old account died last night. Which probably doesn't help.
    1. Is there a way to move my mail folders in 'mail app' from my old .Mac account over to the new .Mac account?
    2. In 'mail app' > preferences > add account > the pop-up box for the new account automatically shows my old .Mac account information, full name, description, user name. But, if I replace that information with my new .Mac account name and info no one can tell me if that automatically delete any mail folders/information from the old account.
Basically I'm lost because no one seems to understand how the system works, not even the Mac Genius.
    Any ideas?

    You're welcome.
Second, because I couldn't get any real answers somehow last night I managed to drag & drop my 'mail app' mail folders onto my desktop. At least I have it there, LOL.
What do you mean by Mail.app mail folders? There is a single Mail folder which contains all Mail.app data (account folders, mailboxes, rules, junk mail learned settings, etc.) except for the Mail.app preference file which stores all account information and is stored in your Preferences folder.
Did you place a copy of the entire Mail folder located at Home > Library > Mail on the Desktop?
The question is can that mail folder from the desktop be placed into mail with the new .Mac account? Some of the old folders were from "on my mac" and some with .Mac & the server so not really sure what moved to the desktop. But, at least it's something.
The answer to this question is no. User created "On My Mac" location mailboxes are stored locally on the hard drive and are not associated with any account. User created "On My Mac" location mailboxes are located in the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes are are not deleted when deleting an account or changing existing account information with Mail.
When creating an account with Mail, an account named folder is created within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account. The associated account mailboxes are located within the account named folder with the exception of locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac type account or IMAP account. Locally stored mailboxes for a .Mac type account or IMAP account are located in the Mailboxes folder at Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes. This would be the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes if these mailboxes are not stored on the server which is available under the Mailboxes Behaviors tab for the account preferences.
Since a .Mac type account is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way, you have the option to store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages locally on the hard drive with Mail for the account preferences.
Were you accessing your old .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail and if so, what were/are your settings under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences for Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages - storing these messages on the server or locally on the hard drive?
Since a .Mac type account with Mail is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox remain on the server and since Apple/.Mac has now cancelled this account, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server have been deleted.
When you open the 'mail app' >file>add account> the pop-up box automatically has the information in there from the expired .Mac account.
Is your old .Mac account information still available at System Preferences > .Mac under the Account tab?
If so, this is where the Mail.app is getting the old .Mac account information which needs to be changed to your new .Mac account information.
If you placed a copy of the Mail folder on the Desktop for backup purposes, you can can create your new .Mac account with Mail which should not change or affect your existing .Mac account with Mail but you cannot "merge" account named folders and mailboxes between two accounts.
You can use the Import Mailboxes feature to import the old account's Sent mailbox if you did not store Sent messages on the server for your old .Mac account preferences.

  • New .mac account: help!

    Hello,
When I first got my computer, my sister (unbeknownst to me) set up an account on Apple mail and promptly forgot the password. I thought I deleted the account, but now, when I'm trying to make an new .mac account, I'm required to log in with the username and password she came up with. How do I fix this (either by recovering the lost password or by making a new account altogether)? Thanks!

    Hello Jenny.
If all you did was deleting the account from Mail, the .Mac account settings are probably still in System Preferences > .Mac, the passwords still in the keychain, and the outgoing server settings still in the server list that appears when choosing Edit Server List from the Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu...

  • New family pack .mac - how to republish iweb parts to new .mac accounts

Ok, that subject isn't very clear so I'll try here: Tonight I upgraded my .mac to a Family Pack. I have split my previous iWeb 'domain.sites2' into individual sites that I have renamed. One needs to go to my hubby's computer under his .mac account and I want to put some of the others under the other newly created .mac accounts on my own computer. How to I tell each of the new 'xxx.site2' to be published under the correct .mac?
    Thanks!

do you know how the public folders work? Am I missing something in setup?
You have to click on your Harddisk (Macintosh HD) then go to "Users" and there you will find the different users accounts and you are able to view the content of the public folders (not going to HD and then Home where you put stuff in).
But public folders permissions are read-only. To move things from one user account to the other you should use "Shared Folder" instead of the "Public Folder". Go to your HD, "Users", and drop the stuff into Shared. Shared has Read & Write permissions.

  • Unable to open iTunes account after new .Mac account is opened

I recently opened a .Mac account and it appears that Apple totally changed all my previous accounts. All of my accounts where changed even iTunes. Now I can't get into my iTunes account with the old name nor the new .Mac either. I have a balance to my iTunes account and no way to find it. Does anyone have any idea how to send an e-mail to iTunes or figure a way to find my old account?

  • Advice about creating a website(s) with a .Mac Account - Newbie

    Hello,
I need some advice about creating a website with a .Mac Account.
    The Situation
For my media course we need to create a short film, then brand it, and distribute it along with press releases and press packs. No other group have thought about setting up a website - where it has all the company details, info about the Cast, Crew, Film, and maybe a link to the finished product.
    The Problem.
I'm the only one who has an Apple Laptop. We don't want to use the computer at the university as A LOT of students use them and every month or so they're given a clean install.
I've designed my own 'virtual series' website to showcase my screen writing work, but I haven't uploaded it. I was waiting until I finish university in the summer before I activated my 1 year .Mac Account. I have a .Mac Account, which has still got to be activated.
How do i go about creating my 'video production' site, if I've already got my own created and sitting in iWeb?
How could I just 'launch/upload' my 'video production' site without putting my own up as well?
Should we buy a separate .Mac Account?
Oh, and what would the address be, so that we can put them on business cards.
THANKS for any and all help.

  • Moving from PC to new Mac...please help

    Two questions:
    1. To move my entire itunes library (which is currently synced with my ipod) from my old PC to my new Mac, is everything I need to do listed in this article? Again, I am trying to figure out how to rebuild/move my current itunes library from PC to Mac.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
    2. Can someone please tell me how I can make sure that everything that is on my iphone right now (contacts, text history, photos taken with iphone, music, etc) will remain there when I go to plug in my iphone to my new Mac for the first time? I am unsure as to what to do to make sure that I don't delete information from my iphone when I connect it to the new Mac for the first time....make sense?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I am eager to become a full fledged Mac user but am scared to death of losing my itunes library as well as my current iphone contents when I make the switch......

    allthingsapple,
    1. Basically this article is accurate, however if you are only referring to the iPod on your iPhone as the means of transferring your music, this will not work. This is because the iPhone cannot be placed into disk mode. Instead you would need to use other storage media, such as an external hard disk drive. On the last step instead of copying your music folder to your iPod, you will be copying it to the external drive.
In the section titled "Is all the music together?", step 6, if you are running iTunes 8.0.2, you should follow these steps to consolidate the iTunes Library: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15329.html
In addition to these steps, to save your playlists, I would recommend following this article to export your .xml file from your old computer, so you can import it on the new one: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15271.html
    2. Information like music and photos (with the exception of camera roll photos) will be deleted once you choose to sync those items from the new computer. The above steps will take care of your music, but you would need to take the extra step of moving your photos from your old computer to your new one using the external hard drive.
iPhone and iPod touch: Syncing and merging data
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
For all other data, you can first make an iTunes backup on the new computer. To do so:
    - Disable automatic syncing in iTunes Preferences on the new computer (click iTunes next to the apple in the top left, choose Preferences, then choose the Devices tab).
    - Connect your iPhone and when it appears in iTunes, right click on it under Devices, and choose "Back Up".
    - Once the backup is complete, you can safely sync all your other data to other programs on the new computer, like iCal, Safari, Address Book, etc.
    Hope this helps,
    Raleigh

  • Moving iphoto5 files to new Mac with iPhoto 6

Just bought a new G5 which came with iPhoto 6, had backed up my files from my old G5 which were in iPhoto 5 on an external drive. Having a very hard time getting new mac to load up the photos. I replaced the iPhoto file on the new MAc with the old file - still comes up ss no photo's. I can open the files and see them, but new machine/iPhoto is not recognizing them. Would also like to bring over the folders and slideshows as well. Please help???

Here's one more possibility before you start the tedious process of one by one:
Use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your V5 library. It creates a new library by copying the image files and necessary data from the old one. Then you can try to have iPhoto 6 open the rebuild model and see it it will recognize the image files. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

  • HT4413 Time Machine- moving files onto a new mac- compatibility issues?

If you use Time Machine to load files from a mac running snow leopard to a new mac running lion, will everything work normally in lion thereafter on the new mac? It won't try to revert the new computer to snow leopard, will it?
Also, I want to clear off the old computer once I do this (an 2008 Snow Leopard macbook) so my sister can use it for basic internet, etc. What is the best way to do this?
Last question: I have a 2008 Microsoft Office Suite program that I installed in 08 on the macbook. It came with 3 access codes total, and I split it 3 ways with 2 roomies and we each have one access code. If the office is uninstalled on this old computer and I try reinstalling it on the new one, can I use the same code as before or will it think that I am trying to use the same code on two computers? I don't need the program on the old computer anymore and just want to "switch" it to the new one.
Thanks so much for any ideas!

No, it can't revert Lion to Snow Leopard.
Your user data and preferences should be transferred without problem.
Applications, if you elect to copy them over, may need updates to work in Lion.
Some applications won't work at all - those written for use on earlier PPC Macs (the G3, G4, G5 series) won't run at all. That includes Appleworks, Office versions before 2008, and some Adobe Products.
You'll need to replace those applications with compatible current ones that can open the files created in them.
Also, I want to clear off the old computer once I do this (an 2008 Snow Leopard macbook) so my sister can use it for basic internet, etc. What is the best way to do this?
Boot from your grey installer DVD disc 1 (hold down the C key on startup or hold down Alt/option on start and choose the installer disc).
OK the language page (if present). From the installer screen, go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility; depending on the OS version it may be in the Utilities menu or Tools menu.
    Do not click 'Continue' yet!
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.). Run Repair Disk. If that comes up as disk OK, click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need. Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
    This next step is optional;
When that's finished, select the new volume in the sidebar (indented to the right below the drive) and go to the Erase tab, select Security options and select zero data (one pass is more than sufficient). Click erase. That will take quite some time; probably measured in hours and dependant on the size of the drive.
(The purpose of this step is to ensure there is no recoverable data left on the drive).
When that's completed, close DU and continue with the installation.
When installation is complete, after the restart ignore the setup assistant and shut down the Mac (you may have to do this by holding down the power button).
The Mac is now ready for the new owner to personalise it as if new.
Be sure to pass on the original grey discs with the Mac, and the SL retail disc if you loaded SL.
You can use the Snow Leopard retail disc instead of the grey discs, but you won't be asked to load disc 2 and the iLife software on it in that case. If you use the grey discs first, you can simply follow up by installing SL over the top to upgrade the system files. It won't affect anything else (leave out the partition and erase steps of course!)
Last question: I have a 2008 Microsoft Office Suite program that I installed in 08 on the macbook. It came with 3 access codes total, and I split it 3 ways with 2 roomies and we each have one access code. Sorry, you need to ask in the MS or Office forums for that.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini

The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.

    Paul:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To be sure all of the files in the library have the correct permissions after copying to the new Mac download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
