Mozilla Firefox (not responding) happens every 9 minutes.

In Windows 7, every 9 minutes Firefox hangs for about a minute with the message "Mozilla Firefox (not responding)". After about a minute it will work just fine. It happens on all webs sites.
I've tried various things to no avail. (Disabled add-ons, etc.) I'm not even sure it's Firefox. I have a feeling it's some program checking for updates or something every nine minutes.
Does anyone have a clue what runs every 9 minutes?

  • System running slowly and keeps locking up. I get "Mozilla Firefox not responding" message until system catches up and strts operating again. Ideas?

When I boot system it takes forever to open. Once it is up and running I can move through some pages easily but if I try to open news sites or sites with a lot of information the system locks up as it is loading (sometimes for several minutes at a time) and will not let me get out until the system catches up. In some instances I get a "Mozilla Firefox not responding" message in the upper tool bar and the screen gets a milky color until the system catches up and allows me to continue. Any ideas?

According to everymac.com, your Mac came with Tiger, 10.4.x and can't go any higher than Lion, 10.7.x.
It would have come with gray, machine specific disks. Since there's no reason to install 10.4.x first, and then Snow Leopard over that, just purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $20. What you won't get with the retail version of SL is the iLife suite (Garage Band, iDVD, etc.) that were on the original bundled disks, but you can purchase iLife on Amazon pretty cheap, and get newer versions besides.
When you get Snow Leopard, you can boot to the DVD, erase the drive and install everything clean. Hopefully, you issue is only software, and not hardware related.

  • Many, many times in a session, I get this: Mozilla Firefox (Not Responding). Frustration is setting in when I have to kill the computer, and start all over again. Anger is beginning a slow burn, too.

Since the latest version (don't even ask me) was downloaded and installed, many times in a session when I am browsing the net, or opening a text document or a spreadsheet, flipping back and forth, I'll have to stop and sit for an indeterminate amount of time because up on the header, I'll get the message Mozilla Firefox (Not Responding). When looking down toward the front of the laptop, I note the hard drive is going full bore, whole hog, whatever you want to call it. Sometimes after repeated hitting the "enter" key, the program will catch up, and begin functioning again. Other times, because the program is stuck, the laptop will overheat, causing me to manually shut down, wait a while while the hard drive cools, then restarting. When I have to manually kill the session, I cannot, repeat CANNOT get the machine shutdown programs to work.
What the hell is wrong with Firefox with this crap?

Hello jesterabk, '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

go here and it will check if your plug ins are up to date...If they aren't, it will give you a direct link on how to update them. It will most likely be your shockwave player that you have to update. If this was your problem, it will stop the freezing/not responding problem.

  • Why do I get Mozilla Firefox not responding when I have Adobe Flash Player

Up until both Adobe and Mozilla Firefox updated I had full use of my computer. Now, with with both Mozilla Firefox and Adobe Flash player I get the response "Mozilla Firefox not responding" I have eliminated all my plug ins and the computer is just fine until I enable Adobe Flash Player.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
Open the options of your anti-virus, and tell it to leave the browsers alone.
Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift><br> ''(Mac Options)'' ''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

  • Mozilla firefox (not responding) 27

I have recently changed to mozilla firefox 27. to update my windows 7 vista and constantly it keeps freezing and saying not responding and i have to wait to carry on, I am not great on computers and need help as simple as possible so i understand please someone help.

I have same. Vista 7 and er...sometimes Firefox.
I have the latest Firefox installed hoping that it wold stop that
Mozilla Firefox (not responding) cropping up...
My mistake. Since up(lol)grading to the latest that error is almost permanantly etched into my screen. It is DREADFUL.
Even at launch I can get that message.
I can NEVER get past 35-40 mins before it will crop up and hang the PC.
I get that and its oft companion "Plug in busy stopping you having fun" etc
I have written to Mozilla twice3 (only to be ignored) that this is not OUR error, but THEIRS. Basically your browser falls over.
As for solutions - sorry - I will not be fobbed off with FAQs (which never cover one's particular prob) and the "solution" of "Oh, just RESET Firefox" does NOT work. It won't work because all I am doing is rebooting a faulty browser.
So whilst having to go back to IE will Firefox be actually FIXING their software so that the NEXT upgrade can actually SUSTAIN a browsing session that could ooo maybe go over an hour?
Currently I have the Task Manager open permanantly so as to flag "END TASK" next to "firefox is not running...."

  • Installed 4.0.1.0 yesterday. Since then, I get "not responding" message every few minutes. I've gone back to Explorer!

MAil often doesn’t fully quit although it appears closed in dock (I have to force quit)
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Why does my Mozilla Firefox 6.02 hang every few minutes. Its has been going on for years. "Not Responding" you can close and reopen and its fine, or wait 30 seconds and it goes back to normal, others like MSN, Opera, Chrome not having this problem.

Oh and before I get disable your add ons, update and any other Generic crap. I did. ALL of that. Deleted Firefox completely then reinstalled it. Still the same error, my laptop in my office no problems my desktop "Not responding" wow.

Switched to chrome on that computer. Seems to be the only solution that works. Mozilla, I know you are a good browser, I have sung your praises for years. But if you need to do all that technical stuff to get it to stop. Its really easier just to download another browser. Sorry. If you get your glitched corrected, I would be happy to come back. But I'm sorry I don't have that much time to waste.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == a week or so

    me too !
but it only started happening just after the latest update,
and of course firefox can not expect people to remove their security, windows defender nor firewalls in order to use their products - that's silly.
so now, when i finally get frustrated, i have to use chrome or IE
... actually it just happened right now so I am off to chrome
