Mozilla instead of Safari??

My MacBook has perfectly full reception from Linksys, but Safari is running really slowly. It stops loading whenever it wants to. I took it to Apple today, since this is my 2nd MacBook in 2 weeks, and he basically said, "well, it's not doing it here," but it continued to do it at home now that I'm back. I tried resetting Safari, deleting the Cache...nothing.
Could I d/l Mozilla Firefox?? Or can I uninstall and reinstall Safari??

I don't think that extension is supported. I believe Firefox can only read .json and .html.

Yahoo is a search engine, a portal, provides webmail service, and other things, but it is not a "browser".
Firefox is a web browser. Mozilla doesn't have a search engine, but it does include 7 different search engines including Yahoo.

I have my Time Capsule set up and can access it remotely, however, I cannot copy anything to the TC disk from my desktop.
Sorry but do you mean you cannot copy from local LAN to the TC, or from a remote location to the TC.
What OS is on the computer.. it is a common issue with Mavericks.. where the networking giants have gone back to tin cans and string.
I recommend a full reset of the TC to factory.
Change all naming to SMB type.. it is so important now with Mavericks which is SMB by default.
SMB uses names that are short.. <10characters is great.. keep it less than 20 max.
No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.
ie when apple setup suggests a name like
Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule.. it breaks every rule. It is over long.. has spaces and illegal character.
So change all names.. eg TCgen4 (replace number with actual Gen if you like.. or just name it TC).
Call wireless TCwifi (or TC24ghz and TC5ghz if you want separate naming for the bands).
Then in finder.. use Go, Connect to server.
Type in
AFP://TCname (where TCname is whatever you have now named your TC compliant with the rules above)
If that fails
AFP://TCname.local (Mavericks gets domain name issues.. it needs the domain and is local by default.)
or
AFP://TCIPaddress. eg AFP://10.0.1.1 which is router address by default.. only use if the ip is static.
The computer will hopefully discover the resource and now you can type in your password.. public by default.. or whatever you changed it to.
Now try copying files to the TC.

Is there a way to have Mail use Firefox when searching a term via Google from within Mail instead of Safari?
My default browser is Firefox but mail launches Safari instead.

no. that service is hard coded into Mail. you can not change it. it will use safari no matter what your default browser is.
My default browser is Firefox but mail launches Safari instead.

P.S. you can probbly make your own service using automator that will search using firefox.

.url files launch in IExplorer instead of Safari, how can I fix it. I try to associate .url file (Internet Shortcut) to Safari, but windows vista does not let me change the Default Program (Internet Explorer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I think the programs like to manage these settings, instead of manually changing the File Associations.
Start IE and click Tools -> Options. Set it as your default.
Then open Safari and it should ask you. Click Yes.
Not sure why the file associations are ignored.

If you're referring to web browsers on your iPad, there is no Firefox for iOS. There are other alternate web browsers, though, including Opera and iCab. Search the App Store for "web browser".

Sorry! I didn't realize that a message window opened up, so am not sure if my entire question showed up. I can't use my Safari app at all. Every time I try to open it, the app I used (and closed) previously opens instead. It doesn't matter what app it is, it is just the previous app used. Settings: 4.2.6 (8E200). Model MC676LL. Loading youtube videos crashes my browser - both mozilla firefox and safari. Now I can't get firefox to load any page, although safari still works. It started when I clicked on a youtube link on FB 2 weeks ago. Any ideas, anyone?

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

I was able to see links in Mac Mail 4.5 open in Firefox. I had the Firefox application open, and when I clicked a link in the mail client it opened correctly. I'm sorry if this is not helpful. Is Firefox set as your preferred browser?

Force PDFs to open in Preview instead of Safari?

When I click on a .pdf link in Safari, it opens up in the browser as part of Acrobat Professional. How can I instead have it automatically open in Preview (which is much faster, less bloated)?

First open Acrobat Professional. Open Preferences. Change the PDF viewer default.
Next, go to the Finder: Internet Plug-ins folder in either the main or User Library. Remove the Adobe PDF plug-in. Restart Safari.
PDF should now open in Safari. If you want to save or print it, right or control click to access the contextual menu. You can also port the PDF to Preview via the Contextual Menu.

Web links open Preview instead of Safari

My mum has a Mac mini running 10.3.9 and it's developed this problem: when she clicks, a link to a web page (in an email for example), instead of the the page opening in Safari, the application Preview starts up (with no document open) instead.
Here's what I've done, none of which has made any difference:
Used Disk Utility to repair permissions (twice) and restarted.
I opened Safari, went to a website then dragged the URL to the desktop to make a webloc file. When I double-clicked this file, Preview started up. I Got Info on the file and its default app was Finder. I changed this to Safari and checked 'Change all'. Get info on the file now shows Safari as its default app, but double-clicking the file still starts Preview, not Safari. If I CNTRL-click the file and choose 'Open with' and choose 'Safari (default)', the file does open with Safari. But if I double-click it - or click any link in any app. which should normally open a webpage in Safari - Safari is unaffected and Preview starts up instead.
I'm stumped. Any ideas what I should do next?

In addition to Niel's advice above, you might want to take this opportunity to download a more internet compatible browser for your mother to use such as Camino 1.6.10 (freeware). Make sure to download the 1.6.10 for 10.3.9 OS. Safari v1.3.2 for 10.3.9 cannot be upgraded any further whereas Camino was updated by it's developers further for 10.3.9 and will handle many more web features that Safari 1.3.2 can no longer handle.
If your mother prefers Safari, for some reason, she will need to upgrade the OS to a later version, by purchasing a later retail version to handle newer web features and changes to internet sites. That will allow her to use a later version of the Safari browser.
10.3.9 works fine, though, for most usage and Camino is an excellent browser. So if you don't see the need to upgrade the OS at this point Camino can be customized to look and feel almost identical to Safari 1.3.2 albeit with the addition of how it handles more modern internet features using 10.3.9.
You likewise, as with Safari, can change the default web browser to Camino, similarly, once downloaded.

All of a sudden, every time I click a link in an email, my computer tries to open Internet Explorer which I hate. It used to open Safari as I prefer. Does anyone know how to make it open Safari to access links instead?

In Safari, make Safari your default browser in the General section of the preferences, which are available in the Safari menu.

Hi! I've started using firefox to get better stability than when using safari, but the thing is every software-app. makes links open in safari! Is there any place I can change this, so that when I open links from Mail, Adium messenger etc., they open in a new tab in firefox?
And, when using quicksilver, how can I create a shortcut (assign abbreviation..) for opening one of my favourites in firefox instead of it opening it in Safari? I've gotten it (QS) to search in my Firefox-favourites instead of only the favourites, but i cant find a way to assign an abbreviation to it! Any clues?

Launch Safari. Menu>Safari>Preferences>General. Change the "Default Web Browser:" to Firefox.
