MP '08 waking from sleep on its own
My MP '08 has insomnia! It wakes up during the night on its own, and doesn't go back to sleep.
Really. I double-checked the settings in Energy Saver, and it is not configured to wake automatically. There are no programs running that should be waking it up.
Any ideas how I can stop this from happening?

I used to use wireless keyboard and mouse. Battery consumption and
less functionality (e.g. PRAM rest or disc start up did not work, as the connection
via bluetooth did not "kick in" till lateron) made me move back to wired.
Also had problems with waking the old Power Mac.
Haven't missed the wireless keyboard+mouse at all. I know this does not answer your question but I do not think, it could get solved:
1) the computer "pairs" with the keyboard. When at "sleep", all connections are severed. So how does the computer know when the "correct" device wants to wake it (otherwise, it might react to mobile phones)
2) if not paired due to loss of connectivity, it will not recognise until the system is up and running (in order to remember the device). A bit of a conundrum in my books, solvable PERHAPS by the old "if", "and" "or" commands in UNIX

MacBook Pro keeps waking from sleep on its own
My MacBook Pro keeps waking itself from sleep for no reason.
I had the battery changed for free by Apple (apparently it's one symptom of a problem with the original battery) but it hasn't abated. (Occasionally it won't wake up from sleep too, but that's rare and so not much of a problem). The main issue is its inability to stay asleep.
Anyone else had this? I can't find any advice anywhere else and the Genius Bar at the only store I can get to is always fully-booked.
Any help much appreciated.

In addition to Michael's ideas, there have been some weird sleep issues caused by a System Preference, and although your issue doesn't sound the same, if you run on AirPort (and not Ethernet) I'd check it out anyway:
-Open System Preferences.
-Open Network.
-Click on Built-in Ethernet (note what it says underneath it: Not Connected or Inactive; Inactive is what seems to have caused the majority of other issues).
-Click the - button at the bottom of the window to delete the original Ethernet pref.
-Click Apply.
-Click the + button.
-For Interface, select Ethernet.
-For Service Name, enter Built-in Ethernet.
-Click on Create.
-Make sure your Location is set to Automatic or AirPort (or whatever you normally have it set to).
-Click on Apply and close Preferences. -
I'm wondering if someone else is having control of my iMac as it randomly wakes up from sleep while I am sleeping sometime during the night. I've woken up with the light from the monitor brightening my room. Need to find out what is causing it to wake up and stay on. Any suggestions?
I've had this same issue lately. Here's one thing to check: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Wake for Network Access should be unchecked.
Mine is unchecked, so the only other thing I can think of is that it might be Time Machine backing up. My iMac is backing up to an external hard drive, and also sharing that drive over the network so two other Macs can back up as well.
Should be an easy theory to test. Turn off AirPort, unplug Ethernet, and let the iMac sit. See if it still happens. -
MBP 2.1GHz waking from sleep on its own, and hard hanging/heating.
I searched and read and read and didn't see a whole lot of info regarding those having their system wake from sleep and hard hanging.
Usually I 1st notice it when I see the sleep LED dimly lit. On examination the MBP is almost to hot to touch. It is unresponsive to any keys other than to hold power button till it powers down. I've had it do this while in it's sleeve as well. It should have probably therm-tripped from excessive heat, but didn't. All in all, is kind of scary to have to get so hot when it hangs like that, be it in the bag, or setting on my desk.
Background:
It is on A/C and battery is fully charged.
Sleep is configured to do so on lig closure.

Finally, I spent a good part of today digging though logs for anything notable and see nothing. No core dumps or anything. I do have applecare and am wondering if it is time to call??
Any help/comments would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.4.7)I think I have the same problem. The whole sequence is:
* Put MacBook Pro to sleep by closing lid.
* After some period of time that varies, I notice sleep LED is no longer pulsing.
* The case is VERY hot.
* When I open the lid, the display stays black.
* No sequence of keys or closing/opening lid wakes display.
* Only way to recover is to power cycle.
* Problem is VERY intermittant -- I do not know how to reproduce it at will. AppleCare service had it for a whole week and couldn't reproduce it, whereas for me it occurs once every 1 or 2 days.
Actions:
* AppleCare service replaced the main logic board in early June, but it didn't help.
* I did a clean erase and install, but it didn't help.
* AppleCare service had the unit for a full week in July and couldn't reproduce the problem, so they returned it and it still had the problem.
I have a Logitech Bluetooth mouse, don't know model other than M-RBB93. I'll UNset "Allow Bluetooth to wake..." and will also turn off the bluetooth mouse before closing lid. I'll post my results.
Meanwhile, please let me know if anyone determines a solution! -
HP Photosmart 7525 e wakes up from sleep on its own hourly.
My Hp Photosmart 7525 wakes up from sleep mode approx. every hour. It is set up as wireless and usb. is there some setting or update that I need to apply to fix this problem?

IMac wakes from sleep on its own with Yosemite
After installing Yosemite, my iMac wakes from sleep all on its own multiple times throughout the day and night. The screen does not turn on when this occurs and it goes back to sleep on its own. I figured the my energy settings may have changed after the upgrade, but nothing is different. I have no schedule set and the "wake for network access" is unchecked.
To my knowledge, any Mac that is 1. connected to power and 2. not powered down will wake periodically for the reasons I explained, and perhaps for additional reasons known only to Apple. If disabling "wake for network access" does not change anything, all I can say is that it's working as Apple intends it to work. Before you ask, I strongly discourage you from finding clever system "hacks" or workarounds to prevent your Mac from working as designed.
It may or may not be a bug. Whether it is or not though, if it bothers you, consider providing feedback to Apple.
When questions such as yours arise, it helps to look at iOS. iPads and iPhones will all periodically connect themselves for the purposes of downloading emails, Messages, alerts etc. There is no way to disable that, other than to completely power down the device, which almost no one does. Apple has been inexorably changing OS X to effectively implement iOS design features such as this – for better or worse is not for us to say.
May I ask why this concerns you? Perhaps that would lend some insight regarding possible solutions. -
Mac starts up from sleep on its own
Every few months, my iMac will start up from sleep mode on its own. Why does it do this, and is it something to be worried about?
I am not touching the mouse or keyboard or using any remotely connected devices when this occurs. Thanks!There are different things that can wake it up, every few months- I wouldn't worry about it.

G4 MDD dual 1.25Ghz, Tiger 10.4.1098% likely one of your USB devices is waking it up. Do you have a USB hub attached or a bunch of USB devices (drives, other doodads) attached? The console tip above may help tell you which one it is

Macbook pro automatically wakes itself up from sleep on its own!
I'm a pretty experienced user, but I can't figure out for the life of me why this is happening. I run my mbp in clamshell mode connected to an external monitor, and every night I sleep it. I've had no problems with this setup for the last two years. However, in the last few weeks, every time I sleep my mac, it will wake up by itself again after about 10 minutes of sleeping. If I try to make it sleep again after the first time it wakes up by itself, it stays asleep for the rest of the night until I wake it up again in the morning. Totally strange. I've restarted, repaired permissions, etc, but it still does it. I don't think I've installed any new software that would cause this to happen. I think I just installed 1password recently and that's it. Also, to make sure it wasn't network or bluetooth activity doing this, I disabled "wake for network actiivity" in energy saver and I disabled my bluetooth. But, it still does it. Could it be a peripheral that's doing this? I haven't added any recently. I'm trying to figure out if the console log can help me, but I don't see anything that indicated what made the mac wake from sleep by itself. Below I've pasted the log for when the time just before I slept the mac and the time after it woke itself up last night. Maybe one of you can tell what app/process is doing this. Or maybe you can direct me to another system log that might give me more info?

Start up and waking from sleep problems. early 2011 macbook pro i-7 2.0
Been having problems with my computer starting up and waking from sleep. If i shut the lid it wont wake up upon reopening the lid unless i hit the power button. After hitting the power button it will restart automatically and you hear the chime and the cdrom ejecting , once the gray screen pops up it restarts again this time you hear the cd rom making the ejecting sound twice then it will start up as normal. Once it finally starts up my date and time has been reset to jan 2008. Other times when i open the lid hit the power button it does nothing at all. Even holding the power button for multiple seconds to force shut down it does nothing. Only way to get it to start up at that power is if i connect the charging cable. I have tried reseting the smc multiple times with no results and pram(even though it doesnt have anything to do with start up problems just did it anyways). It all started i last time i updated not completely sure what all updates i got but im still running 10.7. It seems like a battery issue which would make sense since its nearly 3 years old and i use it extensivly. Last thing that just started recently after i go threw the whole mess of getting it to start up if i pick it up or nudge it the thing will just shut off out of no where. Almost like there is a short somewhere, cant really be sure if its linked with the waking up from sleep/start up problems but seems right up the same ally. Any suggestions to what could be wrong would be greatly apreciated. Im assuming my battery may be on its last leg but the thing still holds a charge and my battery life hasnt dimished at all so cant really be totally sure. Thanks agian
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. It may not fix the problem but it would be the first thing an Apple Store would do if you were to bring it to them with this complaint.
If bumping the Mac causes problems it's an intermittent internal connection that the SMC reset is not likely to help.
Read all the steps.
Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light will cycle off / on once.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer. -
IMac G5 no Bluetooth on waking from Sleep
I have an iMac G5 2 Ghz model with a wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple wireless keyboard and have recently been encountering a problem with the bluetooth connections to them on waking form sleep. Although I have searched and found threads detailing similar issues to mine, they have not been exactly the same hence my starting a new topic.
The iMac works perfectly and I can put it to sleep just fine. Later on I can tap a key or hit a mouse button and the machine wakes up. However from that point both the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive, I will get the screen pop-up message telling me that the keyboard and mouse are disconnected, the bluetooth icon in the menu bar is crossed out but the machine itself has not crashed, the clock continues to click up, I have an animated desktop background which continues to play and if I plug a standard USB mouse in, that works.
If I leave it alone (literally for five or ten minutes), then nine times out of ten, the mouse and keyboard will suddenly start working, disconnect again for a few seconds, reconnect and then work perfectly for the rest of the day as long as the iMac doesn't sleep. Sometimes the bluetooth system simply doesn't come back up even after twenty minutes or so and I am forced to hard reset the machine an reboot. From a restart, the system always works perfectly.
What I don't understand is if the bluetooth system is loosing connection when asleep, how comes a tap on the mouse will wake it up ok and then it disconnects?
So far I've reset the PRAM and Power Management systems, trashed the bluetooth preference files and restarted, and run a permissions check. These seem to make it better for a while but the problem comes back. It doesn't seem like a hardware problem in that it all works perfectly while kept awake but I'd be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what I can try next or look for.

While awake both the keyboard and mouse connections are rock-solid, on startup, both connect instantly it's just waking from sleep that's the issue.
I had the problem just a few minutes ago, the Mac had been asleep for about 30 minutes, I tapped the mouse and it woke up, I could even move the mouse pointer around for a few seconds and then it suddenly froze. The Connection Lost message (for the mouse not the keyboard) appeared on the screen and the bluetooth icon in the menu bar changed to the 'no connection' sign. If I flip the mouse over the little green led doesn't come on.
After about ten seconds the bluetooth icon changed to normal and the mouse worked-for about two seconds then the whole cycle repeated. This happened three times, the mouse worked for a few seconds, the connection dropped and I had to wait about twenty seconds for it to come back to life on its' own. I tried the volume up and down on the BT keyboard but that wasn't working either. On the third time of dropping, the bluetooth assistant fired up telling me that there was no keyboard attached, just as the mouse resumed working on it's own. It searched for a keyboard, told me that it couldn't find one and then immediately told me that a keyboard was attached and no further action is required.
And from that point on both have worked perfectly. If it was just the mouse or the keyboard, I'd suspect that was the problem but I find it hard to credit that both would fail at the same time.
Well I'm now officially stumped. Surely it's inconceivable that a failing BT module would not work on waking but be perfect all the rest of the time?
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received. -
Mid 2009 17" MacBook Pro battery shutdown issue when waking from sleep.
My unibody 17" MacBook Pro occasionally shuts down on waking from sleep when it isn't plugged in.
When I open the lid to wake it I can hear the hard drive and fans starting to spool, and then the next second it's off and silent. The laptop doesn't mind being turned on again after it does this and might go a week without doing it again, equally it might do it next time I try and wake it from sleep. It does this regardless of battery charge level.
coconutBattery says the battery still has 86% of its designed capacity, and I haven't noticed anything else untoward regarding battery charging or performance when in use.
So my question is two fold:
1) Does it sound like the battery's internal processor is malfunctioning, or could it be something else?
2) If it is the battery's internal processor, will replacing the battery replace the processor, or are they fitted separately (in defference to the 'internal' part of its name)?

I have had issues when i press the space bar from sleep, sometimes it wakes but others i'm forced to power it on with the power button.
Is this similar to anything you've experianced?

My iMac will no longer go to sleep on its own! No matter what my settings are under 'Energy Saver', the computer will NOT go to sleep. Rather, the monitor will just turn off and the white light on the front of the computer will come on. The white light does not 'throb', so I know it isn't sleeping.
I'm not running any weird applications preventing it from sleeping, I've tried booting in safe mode, and I've tried resetting the SMC.
This is a RECENT problem - I think it started occurring after installing the 1.0.1 firmware OR Mac OS 10.4.6 update. Does anyone else have this problem??

David.Austin - yes, my power LED does not fluctuate, so I know the computer isn't sleeping, the display is just 'off'. I do have all my disks set to go to sleep. This is a recent problem - everything used to work just fine.
joejoe - I haven't yet tried zapping the PRAM (or NVRAM), but I give that a shot and reset the SMC (SMU) again. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to do a... re-install.
I'll report back with my results. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem.
Agreed - there is something wrong with one of those two updates.

IMac loses connection to network when waking from sleep
Hi There,
We are a small mixed environment of Macs and PCs running on a Windows 2008 domain. One of 2 iMacs that now run Mountain Lion 10.8.5 is having problems when waking from sleep. One of our designers will go for lunch and the machine will sleep for about 30 to 40 minutes. Upon her return the iMac will kick her off of the 3 shares she usually logs into (2 are on Win2008 machines, and 1 is a MacPro running 10.6.8 Server).
If she has files open in any of the Creative Suite Apps, the app will crash and she will have to restart the whole machine. If no files are open then she can usually reconnect to the shares after a short while. Obviously I told her not to leave any files open, but its causing her some headaches.
Its also creating srv errors (id 2012) on our domain controllers, when she tries to wake her machine.
This Imac is a late 2009, and we have a 2011 model that has no issues at all. Both are set exactly the same.
I have reset SMC, Pram, and rebinded to the domain, and searched through these forums quite a bit to no avail.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.I am continuing to work on this issue, and have tried a number of things based on searching here and elsewhere.
And Lucky Me, I have been able to replicate this behavior on one of other Macs (imac 2011, on 10.8.5). I also see errors on 2 separate Windows file servers on the domain (Event ID: srv 2012).

This is from the 2011 iMac, and I see something very similar to this on the 2009 machine.
I continue to think this is a software issue related to 10.8.5 and Adobe CS (CS5 on the 2009 machine and CS 5.5 on the 2011) as this appears to have come up only since the recent update.
Any help would be appreciated. -
Kernal panics after waking from sleep on MBP
I have a client machine that continues to crash after waking from sleep. Most of the logs indicate its a USB driver issue but not all of them which make me question whether it is truly a USB issue.

Sorry for the huge post. The lightspeed kext shouldn't be causing problem as we use this program for all mac machines, I also did extensive troubleshooting with it. I did ask her to stop using the logitech USB device but she said it didn't make a difference, it was a plug and play device, would it still cause this issue without having it plugged in?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
