I have problem with dragging mp3 files into iweb. Iweb doesn`t want it. They close down the application.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try "Fix 101": delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple. iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, reboot and try again.

Putting .docx files into iweb

Hi,
How do I take a .docx file and put it into an iweb page. I've dragged the file into a blank page and it created a link to Library/Application/Support/iweb but when I click on it nothing happens. I even made sure my activate links was checked. Am I totally off the mark on how to do this?

Adding photoshop .gif animation files into iweb page?

I recently learned how to do some simple animation in Photoshop. I can save the files as a .gif or a .htlm file. Does anyone know how to load them into a page so the animation plays on a loop like it is suppose to?

Motion Files into iWeb

is there at all any possible way to import a motion file onto a page without the quicktime play/pause showing up?....just as a automatic intro and what not...

If you Published to .mac then your .js file is located at iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSiteName/YourSitePage/YourSitePage.js
Right-Click on that file and choose "Open With" then select Text Edit From the menu.
Inside of Text Edit near the top you'll see inside of a bunch of code one specific code: <param name="controller" value="true"
There's another code in there too that's like this: controller="true" autoplay="false" scale="tofit"....
Change "true" to "false" for the controller values
You might want to change the Autoplay and Loop values as well.

PDF files in iWeb

How can you put PDF files into iWeb so people can download and print them. (I am a teacher and want my students to be able to download my notes.)

In general, you can hyperlink a file by setting it up in iWeb Inspector's Link tab as "Link To: A File. The following video tutorial shows an example of a PDF document being linked for downloading, but it can alternatively be an MP3 or other file:

Note that you won't be able to test the hyperlink in iWeb itself — only after publishing will you be able to test the hyperlink in a browser.
A PDF hyperlinked in iWeb as "A File" will open in the current browser window/tab. At the bottom of this test page (not mine) there are a couple of text links to PDFs — click on them and see what happens...

How to show a multi-page PDF file on iweb?

Hi everyone,
I'm building a website where I am showing a catalog design I did for my previous company. It was designed using Indesign and exported into PDF file. Then I saved the first page as JPEG file, inserted the JPEG file into iweb, and then enabled the JPEG image as a link to the PDF file of the catalog. I thought by this way I can let future employers to download the PDF file and view my design work. However I figured if I put my website link on places like Monster.com, anybody can see it, download it, and just steal or print out my work. I realized this is not a right way to do since my previous company should have the right of the design work. Any suggestions? Is there anyway I can let viewers only view the PDF file on the web browser without being able to download it? How should I do to display the whole catalog in a neat wey using iweb? Thank you very much in advance!!

My company is very paranoid when it comes to IT. I guess it's the common PC world where you are once bitten, twice shy. We just upgraded all of computers to Windows 2000 !!! haha.
I think there must be (or must have been at one time) some vulnerability associated with javascripts on websites and that's why it's disabled. Crazy, isn't it?

Import pdf into iweb

How do i go about importing a pdf file into iweb? Any help will

Thanks for ur quick response. I did exactly as the article from James Tseng
described. I linked it exactly as he describes but only the 1st page of the
pdf file is displayed. Its actually a large pdf file with 96 pages. Could it be
the size of this pdf (96 pages) that is keeping from downloading all of the
pages??? Something's not right.

Is it possible to get published to folder files back into iweb?

I have created a website in iweb and published it to a folder and to my .mac account. I have recently closed down my .mac account so I could reopen one with my new business name. In the meantime I have upgraded to Leopard which deleted my iweb application.I have got another copy of iweb but now when I open iweb it does not automatically open my website up. Does anyone know if it is possible to open my old website which I have Published to a folder in iweb so I can publish it to my new .mac site?
If i click on the html files in the folder it runs like the website but from that folder only. All the work is there I just can't find out how to get it back on the net.
Please help so I don't have to spend weeks re entering all the files back into iweb one by one!

You can upload your website files by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to get your website up and running.
To be able to publish changes you will have to do a search for the original domain.sites2 file and drop this into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
If you can't find it, then rebuilding is your only option. This is frustrating but doesn't take too long if you copy and paste all your text, images etc from the published files to your new iWeb pages.

How do i get hosted website files back into iWeb after they were lost off iWeb?

Lost all website files from my iWeb program. Possible I updated a newer non compatible iWeb version? At any rate........have website files back on my desktop and have no idea how to get them back into iWeb so I can modify. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can't. iWeb has no import capability. Search your hard drive for a file named Domian.sites2. It normally resides in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you use Time Machine you can go back in it to find the latest copy of that file.
However,
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you can't find it you'll have to start a new website. You can open the files from the website in your browser and copy/drag photos from the existing website pages into a new or blank iWeb page. Text should be selected and copied and then pastes into the new webpage. No need to add a text box first.

Display data from CSV file in iWeb page

Hi,
I like to display data from a CSV file in iWeb page if a date value from CSV file matches todays value from the system. Here is an example.
CSV data values
01/20/2011,Sunny,87
01/21/2011,Cloudy,100
01/22/2011,Rainy,60
If today's date value is 01/21/2011 the page should display 01/21/2011 Cloudy 100 in a tabular format.

I suspect there is a soft return in the excel database somewhere that can't be seen. Take the csv/txt file into notepad and look for a line that starts oddly compared to the others.
I haven't had luck removing soft returns from excel files so I do this a rather odd way. I take the excel file into InDesign as a table, and then use find/change to replace any soft returns with nothing, then convert the text to table and then export the text out again by going export, and selecting text from the dropdown menu.
For my money, I always save tab delimited text files from excel so that if a field does contain commas, it doesn't "trick" indesign into thinking a new field is beginning or not... instead the field delimiters are tabs and they are unlikely to have been used in the excel database.
If you do choose to use this indesign import method of mine to clean up the database, i also noticed two things in your screengrab: first was that some fields have spaces at the start of the text... easy enough to fix with a GREP that looks for ^\s (start of a sentence followed by a space) and replace with nothing. The second thing is the T&C field that all entries (at least in the screengrab) all start the same – if all entries in the database start the same, couldn't that line be in the indesign file? Its only a small detail I know.

my harddrive crashed and I lost all my data. When I set up OSX for new I downloaded my website (www.et-voila.net) from my ftp and I wanted to import to i-web. But I found no possibility do this.
How can I work on my old (i-web made) Website with my new i-web (i-web '08)? There must be a possibility!!

I had previously designed my website in iWeb and published it, i then had to wipe my hard drive but backed everything up, now i can't seem to open or import my old website back into iweb, any help please?

Can you export a published iweb website back into iweb?

I have created my own iweb website which I uploaded to my own domain using transmit. Since creating the page, I had a had drive die on me that I can't access and don't have my site in iweb to edit as I have resorted to a back up made just before I made the site. So I want to know if I can access the site from Transmit and put it back into iweb for editing the site?
This is my first site I have made entirely on my own and have been learning as I go. If I can't access the site as I made it, I may try accessing the files from Transmit one by one to re-make the pages.
Any help on this will me very much appreciated.

Sure, you could syncronize in the opposite direction to get your html files and images, etc back on your Mac. But you will have to drag and drop, copy and paste to get that content back into iWeb.
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Unfortunately, looks like you have too.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Presumably you've been prudently making backups of your Mac's internal HD, so search there for the Domain file's invisible extension:
.sites2
If you can't find your old Domain file, paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

How to get MobileMe photo galleries into iWeb or from Aperture?

I currenlty use MobileMe for an iWeb published site, on which I have a link to a several dozen photo galleries, all pub;ished from Aperture. iPhoto has an iWeb "button", but Aperture does not so far as I can see. I am trying to find the easiest way to keep all of my stuff intact once MM dies next year. How can I migrate, not link, my MM photo galleries into iWeb, and/or publish them from Aperture into iWeb? Once I have the photo galleries as part of iWeb, then I'll be able to use it to publish to another web hosting service. Thanks!

Do you have the original image files used to make up those MMe Galleries? If so you can group them into albums in iPhoto and use the iWeb Album page or Photos page and ignore the MMe galleries.
If the files are in Aperture and there's no Aperture section in iWeb's Media Browser you will have to export those files out of Aperture as originals and drag them either into iPhoto or into an iWeb photos page. I don't use Aperture so an unsure of what can be done between Aperture and iWeb.
If those galleries are the only copy of the photos you have you'll need to download the file (if the gallery allows it) and import into iPhoto before going into iWeb.
