Mp 620. Very weird and annoying behavior

So the Mp620 used to work fine.. but now it prints fine, but after 1 print it will get an (Output slot is jammed error, or Rear slot is jammed error) when nothing is jammed!! I usually have to turn off the printer, cancel the job, and reprint each page 1 by 1 by repeating this process.. its VERY annoying.. it does this both on my macbook and desktop..
thanks in advance.
-Gabe

Sounds like you may have a mechanical fault with this printer. I don't think the errors are being caused by anything in the driver. Certainly the only time I have seen the same messages is when paper is jammed. There are a couple of sensors in the unit for paper detection. One or both of these are probably the cause of the messages or you have a fault with the main board.

  • Weird and annoying font issues

    I really need help with my fonts.  Xfontsel and term emulators inc. aterm AND rxvt-unicode cannot find many of my fonts inc TTF and non-TTF and i do not understand why.  All my fonts are visible and useable by gtk apps.  They all appear in gtk2fontsel.
    There may be some error in my xorg.conf but i find it diffcult to understand why fonts appear in some apps.
    I can use some artwiz fonts in aterm but they all have huge space between the characters.  this seems weird and makes me think it must be something in my x config or other settings cos they are AL artwiz package in the usual path - if they work for most people they should work for me right?
    Please help – I am getting desperate!

    well, I used to have "fc-cache -f" run on startup (rc.local) in order to make sure.... sure it took  a bit, but I only reboot after big X changes (because I can't fully wipe out xdm if it is respawning).
    And yeah lanrat - I forgot about the "man fonts-conf"... my fault there.
    And I thought the font dirs were in local.conf.... but you're most likely right (as those are all basically system default font dirs).
    I'll have to look into xfontsel.... it may show TTF fonts, but it uses old XFDL syntax for fonts.... whereas the syntax speicifed above is modern (as of 2001ish) just not used for some obscure reason.

  • My iPod Touch was acting very weird, and now the sleep button is unresponsive

    Just yesterday morning, my iPod didn't turn on.
    When I tried to turn it on, it didn't turn on, so I went to itunes to try to restore it. I downloaded the 700MB update, and left for school, leaving the iPod at home. I came back to find the screen turned on, however, it was acting very very strange. At first, I thought the battery was dead, even though I fully charged it the day before. First when I'm using it, the screen blacks out, flashes, and it constantly asks me to slide to power off, when I didn't press anything. Did a hard reset, and an update/restore, but it didn't fix the problem.
    Afterwards, I noticed that the strange behavior stopped. Everything was functional again, except this time, the sleep button no longer works. I press the power button, and nothing happened. I can't even do a hard reset. I can't turn it off. The button isn't stuck though.
    I don't know what's going on, but I need my sleep button, because if anything happens to this iPod, I won't be able to reset it. I restored it twice, and the issue was not resolved.
    If anyone knows how to fix it, please tell me. I really need the sleep button. Just keep in mind that the sleep button is unresponsive, and I won't be able to do a reset.
    If not, can you recommend me an ipod app that can put your ipod to sleep instead of using the button?

    Unfortunately, I don't think it solved the problem. I believed the new iPod thing solved the weird behavior problem, but after that the button stopped working.
    Do you know how to contact Genius? Because I don't think I can find a store in my area, when I tried to.

  • Really weird and annoying problem

    When I double click on a waveform (I forget the name of that small window that comes up), and play back just that one audio object in that window, it acts like it has a really extreme gate on it, only letting through very loud sounds, while the rest is just quiet. This is extremely annoying because I want to edit certain parts, and I can't find out what I need to select because I can't hear anything. Suggestions?

  • Really weird and annoying noise

    When I use iChat (video chat) I get this really weird interference or noise, won't start at first but I hear it building up then it gets to be too loud and I can't hear anyone. And only I can hear it. To describe it, it sounds almost like a helicoptor or something and kind of like a pulsing static that changes volume. If anyone knows how to fix this I would reaally appreciate any tips.

    its not high pitched and im the only one that can hear it. im using a Logitech USB headset and im wondering would the sound not occur if i just use the internal mic and speakers in the iMac. but im concerned that any sound coming through the speakers would be immediately picked up by the mic.
    oh and also the person i chat with is using a pc but like i said im the only one that sound occurs to and its really really annoying.

  • Leopard installed -- G5 Desktop VERY slow and odd behavior

    I installed Leopard on both my MacBook Pro and G5 dual 2.7Ghz. Works great on the laptop. Both have also had the combo update to 10.5.4., with permissions repaired before and after installation. The G5 is behaving oddly; very very slow on boot up, opening apps, such as preferences which takes 2-4 minutes simply to open, and responds inconsistently to mouse and clicking. Not sure what to do other than revert to OSX.4.11, a seemingly very stable version. Any ideas?

    Thanks. I'll give that a shot, otherwise, I'm going to use SuperDuper to wipe the drive and restore it from a bootable backup that's running 10.4.11 and then try re-installing Leopard + combo. Cheers.

  • Weird (and annoying) two profiles on the one ID.

    I've not used the forums much recently so when I logged in a couple of days ago I didn't worry about the prompt to assign a 'screen name' to my ID. I just thought it was a feature of the upgraded forum.
    But then I noticed that my avatar and points were both missing. After a bit of trial and error (much logging out and logging in !) I realised that I have two different screen names assigned to my one ID. My original (nealeh) and the new (Neale_in_the_UK). Both are linked to the same email address.
    Hopefully the following two screen dumps highlight my problem. Please would you delete the 'Neale_in_the_UK' keeping just the 'nealeh' with the avatar and points.
    The one to keep please:
    The one to delete please:

    That's what is most strange - I always sign-in as nealeh using the same parameters (I use roboform to connect and fill in the sign-in screen so it is always identical). I never did detect a pattern as to whether it connected me as 'nealeh' or 'neale_in_the_uk'.
    Still, since you deleted the 'in_the_uk' name, all seems back to normal.
    Thanks,

  • Very weird and frustrating problem.

    I have a 160gb classic and I went to plug it in earlier and nothing happens, it didn't show up in itunes. I clicked my computer and under devices with removable storage its there, but just called removable disk (F: )) and I click on it and nothing is in there!
    And so I unplug and plug my iPod back in again, and on the ipod screen it says that it is connected, and before I get the chance to do anything (it still doesn't show up in itunes) It says that its ejecting! And then it acts asif it isn't plugged in - I get the menu on the ipod screen.
    And then in itunes it says my ipod might be corrupt and that I should restore.(the ipod still acts asif its not plugged in/connected) And the picture of the ipod is white.
    So I click restore, and then it says it couldnt be restored, an unkown error occurred!
    I've tried reinstalling itunes, holding down menu and select and everything.
    I don't know what is going on, but can anyone help me??
    Thanks!
    EDIT: Ok, I just got it working on my brothers pc and I restored it. Then I plugged it into my pc and it still connects then says its ejecting (iTunes still isn't picking it up either) I'm thinking it must be something wrong with my pc.
    But someone please help, this is horribly frustrating.
    Thanks

    I would 1st return it for a 100% refund. Now purchase an identical unit. This keeps your options open at least for the next 14 days (depending on the stores return policy).
    I bought an ipod classic 160gb and its cord was hypersensitive to slight movement. I plugged it in, it said "connecting" then it suddenly didn't connect and said "ejecting". I couldn't safely disconnect and had to just yank out the cord. This froze up the ipod and I had to reset it in order to get the ipod to fire back up (which I understand you've already tried).
    This is why I say return it and rule out the possibility of it being bunk junk.

  • Ipod stuffed-very sad and annoyed

    Just this morning my ipod has been freezing so i turned it off and reset it using menu/select but now it jst spinns up and down and show sad mac i can connect it to my mac and it says it not recognized and i try repair from disk utility but aint work i tied everything and i have not enough money to repair it since my friend got it for me. >?please help

    If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
    Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
    Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
    Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
    Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
    If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
    You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
    Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
    iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
    The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
    iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
    iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
    You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
    Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
    I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
    If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
    Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
    Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
    In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ or ifixit at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
    You don’t want to pay any service charges
    You are prepared to buy a new one
    You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
    Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
    You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
    Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
    In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
    2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
    Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

    I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
    Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
    Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • [PrintService] Weird and different behavior on my Mac and my PC

    Hi
    I've been struggling with a printing problem for now more than 20 hours and i decided to go back to the beginning.
    So first, before trying to print any random String, i want to check what can print my printers connected.
    Since i was having problems, i am trying both on my Mac and my PC.
    Both are connected to my network using Ethernet.
    Here is my code
    DocFlavor[] triedFlavors = {
                        DocFlavor.STRING.TEXT_PLAIN,
                        DocFlavor.STRING.TEXT_HTML,
                        DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE,
                        DocFlavor.STRING.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_UTF_8,
                        DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.TEXT_PLAIN_UTF_8,
                        DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.STRING.TEXT_PLAIN
                InputStream is = new ByteArrayInputStream(test.getBytes());
                BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(is);
                PrintRequestAttributeSet printRequestAttributeSet = new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
                printRequestAttributeSet.add(new Copies(1));
                printRequestAttributeSet.add(MediaSizeName.ISO_A4);
                DocAttributeSet docAttributeSet = new HashDocAttributeSet();
                //docAttributeSet.add(MediaSizeName.ISO_A4);
                for (Attribute attribute : docAttributeSet.toArray()) {
                    System.out.println("Attribute Set:" + attribute.toString());
                for (DocFlavor flavor : triedFlavors) {
                    System.out.println("Flavor chosen:" + flavor.toString());
                    PrintService[] services = PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(flavor, docAttributeSet);
                    System.out.println("Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : " + services.length);
                    for (PrintService service : services) {
                        System.out.println("Available: " + service.toString());
                }  I get with my PC:
    Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0
        Flavor chosen:text/html; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0
        Flavor chosen:application/octet-stream; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 7
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\CATE\IMP_CATE
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\SRV-PRINT\4-XCOULEUR
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\SRV-PRINT\5-X-Couleur
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\SRV-PRINT\5-XCOULEUR
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\Srv-print\6-OPERA
        Available: Win32 Printer : \\Srv-print\6-RICOH
        Available: Win32 Printer : Microsoft Office Document Image Writer
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-8"; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-8"; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0  And with my Mac:
          Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 2
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-OPERA
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-RICOH
        Flavor chosen:text/html; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 0
        Flavor chosen:application/octet-stream; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 2
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-OPERA
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-RICOH
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-8"; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 2
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-OPERA
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-RICOH
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-8"; class="java.io.InputStream"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 2
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-OPERA
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-RICOH
        Flavor chosen:text/plain; charset="utf-16"; class="java.lang.String"
        Available printers for this flavor and this attribute set : 2
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-OPERA
        Available: IPP Printer : 6-RICOH  As you can notice, i get totally different results between my PC and my MAC.
    As a matter of fact, when i try to get all the flavors available on 6-OPERA, i get more or less 12 falvors available (when i try the test code from my PC) and 150 when i try the test code from my MAC.... i dont understand!!!
    I want to get more flavors available for 6-OPERA on my PC!!!
    so please help me understand this little problem

    Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

  • Very Interesting and Annoying x505 q875 problem

    Greetings,
    I have an x505 q875 laptop and whenever I start gaming with the power cable plugged in (don't matter if the battery itself is inserted or not) the laptop will shut down in about 20 seconds. The moment I start playing a 3d game and enter the game itself from the menu, the computer shuts down.
    The interesting thing is if I plug out the power cable and start playing the game with the battery as the only source of power, there is no shutdown. But the battery lifespan comes shorter after every use and I only have about an hour to play a game before I willingly recharge the battery or plug it in and watch the pc shut down in seconds.
    CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE!!

    Sounds like your laptop fans/vents are clogged with dust and thus causing the laptop to overheat, which causes the shutdown.  The reason for the playability when on battery is that x505 Qosmios actually throttle the GPU and CPU preventing them from doing too much "power draining" activities when on battery.
    You can try using compressed air (you can buy at Office Depot) to clean the fans/vents ; use short bursts.  I've already read of people using a shop-vac to suck the dust out.
    Just to verify it is a overheating problem, download this utility which allows you to measure the temperature of the CPU and GPU.

    As a comparison, my x505-q8102X CPU and GPU idle at low 40s Celsius.
    Good luck and keep us posted with results.
