Mp3 artwork on desktop

macbook pro, OSX mavericks 10.9.5, iTunes 12.0.1
Hello,
i wonder if anyone could help me ?. This is not a big problem, but it is a little strange anyhow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I have a Vocal version and an Instrumental version of the same song (mp3 file's) on my desktop. I opened both in iTunes to add artwork to them.
I used two, different artwork for each mp3 file. (Same artwork with different file name's and colour).
One artwork is: .jpeg (for Vocal, Blue) and the other is .jpg (for Instrumental, Green).
The Green .jpg for the Instrumental is fine.
It's the Blue .jpeg that is the problem.
Heres my problem:
Both of the artwork shows up fine in iTunes. I have aded both of the mp3 files (with artwork) onto my iPhone, and the artwork shows up fine in the music App.
Here is where i am confused:
On my Macbook, desktop... if i move the mp3 file (.jpeg for Vocal, Blue) from the desktop, to a folder, then the artwork shows up fine.
On my Macbook, desktop... If i duplicate the mp3 file (.jpeg for Vocal, Blue) back onto the desktop, the file name is changed, (a number '2' is added to the file name) then the artwork shows up fine.
If i change the file name (while still on the desktop) then the artwork shows up fine, but if i change it back to the original file name, the artwork is missing again.
Like i say its not a big problem, but i would like to keep the original file name.
Thanks for reading, and look forward to a response

Sorry, i forgot to mention that my art work is missing from my file only when it is on my desktop, and that if i move the file to a folder, the artwork appears, but  then when i move it back to the desktop, the art work is still missing.

  • I unloaded some mp3 songs into desktop file by mistake, now I get a message Item "....." is used by Mac OS X and cannont be opened. How can I fix this

I am new to this support community. I was givin a stick with a bunch of music on it, I wanted to install it on my music and have never done any installations. The 3000 some songs got into my system 3 times so I have 6000 some in my desktop file and had ( I deleted or lost it somewhere??)  9000 some in my documents file. When I click on a song I get a message... Item "Alan Jackson - My Own Kind Of Hat 2.mp3" is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened.
    1. What can I do to clean these files out ?
    2. What does this message indicate?
    3. I did manage to trash some of the songs But had another message that sounded like I should not attempt this either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried Applejack and TechTools Pro to correct permissions and the files are still unaccessible.
The computer is a 2x3 GHz Dual-core Intel Xeon w/16GB Memory, running OS X 10.4.10.
I too would greatly appreciate a hint on how to access these files.

  • Can't import mp3 file from desktop.

I can't import a mp3 file from my desktop.  When I tried to import the file, nothing happened no matter how I tried to import it.  Itunes is up-to-date and the diagnosis can't detect anything wrong.  I tried using Stream on the website where I found the file, but nothing happened. Please help!

"Nothing happened" is iTunes's way of saying the file is not compatible.
Did you try playing the file in another player, such as Windows Media Player or Winamp, to make sure it is a valid MP3?
If it is valid, but iTunes will not accept it, it may have minor corruption.  In that case, treat it with a 3rd party cleanup app such as MP3Val.  That is usually sufficient to make iTunes happy.

  • I have imported a Zip file, mp3 music to desktop. How do I move it into iTunes?? I have tried drag/drop, import to library, both without success. Can anyone help, please.

I have imported a Zip files, mp3 music to my Desktop. How do I move it into iTunes. I have tried d/drop and also Import to Library without success. Can anyone help, please?

Many thanks to Limnos and King Penguin.
I have discovered! I needed software to Unzip and was directed to Stuffit from the App Store. Suddenly it is simple.
    Download Zip File to Desktop.
rt>  Zip        >Open with.....     >Stuffit     Progress Bar: 'Expanding' follows. Then a blue folder (manilla) returns to Desktop.
Open iTunes     >File     >Import to Library      From drop down select  the now expanded contents of Zip file, then     >OPEN
iTunes takes over and imports -  Job's Done!!
    Thanks again

  • 5000 mp3s stuck on desktop...Help!

Hi everyone, and thanks for your help in advance. I just made the switch from pc to an Imac and am very happy so far. I had just finished moving about 5000 mp3s onto my new computer yesterday, when my finger slipped and they all dropped onto the desktop... When I try to put them in the trash (which is what i was trying to do in the first place) I get "some of the files you are using are in use by another application" and i have to erase them ONE BY ONE?!? I have quit all programs and tried restarting in safe mode, but i still get the same message. Please save me from having to delete these files on by one. Thanks

    Hi
Here's a solution I've used for other massively-filed-up desktops. Reboot the computer holding down the cmd and S keys to get into "single user mode". You'll get to a text prompt. Type in the following, and hit return after each line.
    mount -uw /
    cd Users
cd yourusername - for example, "cd rjcooker"
    cd Desktop
    mkdir mp3folder
    mv *.m4a mp3folder
    ls
The final command, "ls", will list the files on your desktop including any remaining music files (any which don't have an .mp3 extension). If there are a small number, you can ignore them. If you still have hundreds of files - perhaps with a .m4a extension (for AAC files), you can run the same "mv" command to get them into the folder:
    mv *.m4a mp3folder
Once you've got the files moved, type "exit" to reboot. You should now be able to see your Desktop!

  • Bug with MP3 tags & full-resolution photo storage...

My birthday was last week and I got a new iPod classic 120 gb......
I am a music (67 gb) and photo buff (22 gb)......and I am having trouble with each. I am using the XP box to do the syncing, since my wife's iBook doesn't have enough storage space to hold all of our photos and MP3s.
    1) Music...... for xmas and my birthday I got 7 new CDs.... I ripped all 7 into iTunes prior to syncing my iPod for the first time and all 7 work perfectly on my family's 3 computers (laptop running OS X 10.4.11, laptop running Ubuntu, and an old Windows XP box that I use as a file server). Yet they all don't show up correctly on the iPod.....
    a) +Slumdog Millionaire+ soundtrack shows up in iTunes with each artist for each track listed correctly....yet on the iPod all songs are under "Various Artists"
    b) +The Best of Clifford Brown+ & +The Juno sountrack+ don't show up at all on the iPod even though they register correctly in iTunes
    c) Charles Mingus' +Mingus Ah Um+ & The Soundtrack for the movie Once.......shows up under album view on the iPod with "Charles Mingus" listed as the artist, but does not show up under Artist view.
    d) The other two CDs work normally.
I ripped all of these CDs at the same time. They all work perfectly in iTunes and in Amarok on my laptop running linux. Why won't they show up correctly on my iPod? It is only these new CDs, the rest of of my giant library synced perfectly. I deleted the files and restored the iPod and the MP3s on the desktop from my back-up but that did nothing.
What is causing this? Should I re-rip the original CDs?
    2) Photos.....I think this is just an Apple thing....but I thought I'd ask....I take LOTS of pics.....my pictures all synced up perfectly with my iPod. I selected the option to upload the full resolution photos as an added redundant back-up since i have the extra space on the iPod......but iTunes didn't take my existing file structure (each folder is an album)...it dumped my 20,000 plus photos into a single folder for March 15th (The day of the original sync) in the iPhoto style file system. The tags are all intact with the correct date, but iTunes didn't read them.
I know this is a personal preference thing.....but I stopped using iPhoto exclusively because it made backing up my photos too cumbersome between different operating systems. I've always found it ironic that it is easier to illegally share copyrighted MP3s out of iTunes then to share non-copyrighted family pics out of iPhoto. It seems my iPod is forcing me back into the iPhoto file system. Is there a way to get iTunes/iPod to just copy my existing file structure so that I can navigate through album folders rather then the giant mass of photos.

Shawn, the issue with the music is likely due to the fact that the CDs in question are compilations (or at least marked as compilations in iTunes).
When an album is labeled as a compilation, the iPod will not list its contents under the artist, instead, you need to enable compilations on the iPod and look there. It will also place the album art for these tracks at the end of Coverflow.
You can undesignate tracks as compilations by right clicking the tracks, choosing "Get Info" and go to:
Options tab (if you are highlighting multiple tracks)
Info tab (if you are highlighting single tracks)
I can't help with your photo issue (I only have music on my iPod), though you are probably correct that this is just the way Apple has chosen to file the photos.

  • Itunes on external hard drive - some mp3s stalling and crashing - HELP!

    Hi,
I hope somebody can help me.
I've had my itunes library on a western digital external hard drive for nearly a year now. i have upwards of 17, 000 songs. Recently after a few seconds playback of certain songs the hard drives starts to click, the songs stalls, jumps ahead then stalls.
I can't play these tracks in another player such as RealPlayer, or even playing the file through Get Info direct from the hard drive.
It's happening more frequently and I'm worried I'm going to end up losing a lot of songs. I also tried dragging the mp3 onto the desktop but it comes up with:
+The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in " " could not be read or written. (Error Code -36.)+
Is there anyway to salvage the files? Stop it happening to other ones?
I'd really appreciate a response if anybody has had a similar experience or knows what to do.
    Thanks,
    Tom.

    Hi,
In case you haven't solved your problem yet, here are some tips.
First, the file that iTunes was indicating was "Damaged" was probably the main file it uses, iTunes Library in your "Music" folder. If this file is corrupted for any reason, iTunes will rename it with the word "Damaged" in the filename, and create a new, empty iTunes Library file. Since all the metadata, containing the definitions of the playlists, etc are stored in this file, you lose all your playlists when the "Damage" occurs. The underlying music files are untouched, as you indeed see.
I've not run into any scripts that actually repair a "Damaged" library file per se. But, if you have a copy of your files on a backup tape, CD, or another machine, you can simply copy that backup file back onto your "Music/iTunes" folder, thereby overwriting the new, empty library file, and you should have all your playlists back. I've done this a number of times without problem when I've had damaged library files.
Going forward you might want to take a look at iTunes Library Manager in Doug's Applescripts for iTunes for managing your library file.
Secondly, check iTunes/Preferences/Advanced and check to make sure the path to your iTunes library is correctly shown in the window. If not, correct it with the "Change" button. You will note that the iTunes library, xml file and a few other files will remain in your "Music/iTunes" folder, while all of your music will be located on your external drive. Don't move the remaining iTunes files in your "Music/iTunes" folder.
As you add new music to your library, you'll see the audio file be copied to your external drive, while the iTunes library file will grow slightly.
    Good luck!
    Ed

  • How do I stop iTunes from automatically adding mp3s I've downloaded to my library?

As I make a variety of YouTube videos, I tend to scrawl the web for various sound effects and music I can use in my projects. I sample all of them online before downloading, but it seems that whenever I download an mp3 to my desktop, iTunes seems to get a mind of its own and go "Hey, let me add that to the library and play it for you." That's not what I want to do at all, and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to stop iTunes from doing so.

Windows Media Player can often be the culprit, with iTunes revealing edits that WMP has made in the background. See this post for suggestions. The most important bit is setting the options as per the fourth image which will stop WMP making changes in future. iTunes will carry on revealing any damage that has already been done.
A slightly more obscure possibility is that your edits haven't taken, either becuase the file is locked (iTunes won't raise an error) or occasionally because multiple tags are involved and iTunes writes to one, but reads back another.

  • Double-clicking mp3 outside of itunes doesn't automatically play

if i double-click an mp3 on my desktop (or anywhere on my hard drive), it no longer automatically plays when itunes loads up (or if itunes is already open).
i think this still happened when itunes 8.0 was released. i don't know if it was the same with 8.0.1, but it definitely doesn't occur in 8.0.2
i tried looking to see if there was a setting i may have unchecked (or it turned off when it updated) but i can't seem to find anything.
anyone else notice this or have this problem?

i too am having this problem. itunes used automatically play a song whenever i opened the file from outside itunes. it's annoying now that it copies the file into itunes but just sits there until you press play. i've noticed it only since my last itunes update. i keep looking through the settings but i know i've not changed any of them, and i can't find anything to fix it either! please help!

  • Why won't my mp3s import?

When I try to import an mp3 from the desktop of my Mac to my iTunes, there is no result. Does this have nothing to do with 'privileges?' I know nothing about them. The icons of the mp3s are the little iTunes symbol with an 'mp3.' Does that help?
Any and all information is appreciated.

Me too. Same problem, and I have a brand new MacBook Pro with the latest version of OSX and iTunes (latest update only two days ago). Strange thing is that my son who has an Intel iMac with the same software can import the very same MP3s that I can´t. I have tried to delete the com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist, com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist and com.apple.iTunes.plist, which seems to help in some instances, but with no effect in my case.
Are you both using iTunes 8 ?
iTunes>File>Add to library> clicked on the disc in the window and highlighted all the folders.
    ..this didn't work?

  • Downsample to MP3?

I have my iTunes Library saved as MP4 lossless. I would like to be able to export a playlist as mp3 to my desktop, but I can't figure out how to do this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    D.

If you set your Import encoder preferences to MP3, then select the songs you wish to convert and choose Advanced menu > Convert Selection To MP3, it will create MP3s of the selected songs. Good luck in finding them though, if they aren't contained to a specific album folder on your HD
You might need to manually "find" mp3 files, or File menu > Show Song File for each.

  • MUSE / MP3

    Bonjour à vous,
j'utilise MUSE sur Mac pour créer de petits sites.
Existe-t-il un moyen pour intégrer un lecteur mp3 html5 dans une page ?
    Merci d'avance

Never mind everyone. Musethemes got back to me. The issue is the link for each MP3 file points to assets/filename.mp3 in the desktop version but since the tablet and phone versions have their own sub-directories the link needs to properly point to the parent directory where the assets folder is located i.e. ../assets/filename.mp3. On to the next adventure.

  • ITunes will not open mp3s

Downloading mp3s from a friend's server, never had any problems opening them in the past. Files recognized as mp3s on my desktop, all permissions etc... seem to be in good order, but when I add/import/drag the files into iTunes, nothing happens. I've restarted twice and had the friend check things out on his end, there don't seem to be any issues there. Any suggestions?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just experienced a similar problem for the first time today. I downloaded an album from emusic.com, and iTunes doesn't seem to recognize it at all. When selecting "Add to Library" or when I drag the mp3's to iTunes, i can see a dialog box scanning through all the mp3's in the folder for a very short while, and then nothing happens. The files play fine in QuickTime, and I have also tried to re-download them from emusic. I've added music from emusic without problems before, and I tried to add the exact same files to a Windows version of iTunes (and it worked fine). I have checked permissions both manually on my music folder, and with Disk Utility.
When I tried to add another mp3 from another source, it worked fine. This should probably be posted to the emusic message boards as well, but as far as I can see, it looks like a bug in the Mac version of iTunes...?

I'm testing my new/first site using Muse CC 2014 and finding that audio files (MP3) will not play on iOS 7.x devices.I am using the MP3 Player plug-in from Musethemes.com. They have yet to respond to my support request 3 days ago so I am hoping someone here might have encountered the same issue. What alternatives would you suggest?

  • Mail problems BIG TIME

So I posted earlier about how every time I go into Signatures to add / change text it's unbelievably slow. Inserting the cursor takes forever and if I try to highlight a line of text and erase it it a) takes forever for the "highlighted" text to show up (and then the wrong text is usually highlighted) and then b) when it does highlight the right text and I hit the delete key I get the spinning beach ball and it takes about 15 seconds for the Mac to catch up.
Then I cut and pasted the signature into a new Mail message and formatted the text to plain thinking the bold text in the sig might have been the problem. Then, the text was just as difficult to edit (as I've explained above) within the body of the email. I tried to close the email and it took over a minute for the window to close.
Now I'm trying to save a 10 meg mp3 to the desktop from an email and, 15 min later, the file hasn't been saved to the desktop.
I'm thinking bigger problems are afoot here.

Are you experiencing performance problems like this in any other part of your system? If so, it sounds like you might be running low on disk space. Also, how long has it been since your computer was turned off? If disk space doesn't appear to be an issue, I'd suggest simply rebooting the system and see if that helps at all. If not, drop back by and we'll see if we can find some other solution.
