Mp3 audio in .mov file

Years ago I created a series of .mov files that are audio-only. When I view the properties of the file it says the audio is "MPEG Layer 3".
For the life of me I cannot remember how I created this file and I need to create another one.
So what I tried is to create an MP3 using iTunes and just changed the extension to .mov The Mac opens and plays it OK, but the PC (my target system) will not. I get a an error "file is not a movie".
Can anyone lend a hand with this?
Thanks!

Open the MP3 in QT Player, Hit Save As (Self Contained).
But doing this severely limits the number of Apps that will play the MP3. Why not leave it as MP3? I'm sure PCs will play a straight MP3 easier than a MP3 in a MOV wrapper.
Whatever, do what you have to do

  • Export animation with mp3 track to .mov file...movie sound tinny, hollow with a little reverb. How to fix?

I'm exporting a 1 minute piece of animation with a great mp3 sound track to a .mov file. The .mov file's sound track is tinny, hollow with some reverb. I've used most high quality quicktime setting and all exports versions were not good. I using FlashCS6 and am on a iMac using OSX 10.9.5. I have also converted the mp3 to a .wav and aiff file and exported both with the animation with the same results. Any help help or workaround to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info Rob. The sound plays fine in Flash. The export settings are: 16-bit stereo 44.100kHz H264. Could the video H264 compression be the problem? Without the H64 compression the video triples in size. Something I'm trying to avoid. I will give no audio compression a try.

  • No Video/Only Audio On .mov files exported from Final Cut

I've exported some .mov files from Final Cut on another computer, moved them to this one, and only the audio will play when I try to play them in any program. QuickTime, VLC, MPEG Streamclip, Real Player--nothing will play the video. I either get a black screen or a white screen. I even tried converting a portion of the video to a different file type to see if that could work.
Anyone know what I could do?

Yes, you are correct--it does play fine on the computer I originally had the file on. But I just checked and I do have perian already.
I'm wondering--I exported the file in Final Cut Pro 6, and on my computer I only have Final Cut Pro 5. Could that possibly have any effect on why it might not be working?

  • Quicktime won't play audio of .MOV files

Quicktime displays the video portion of .mov files from my digital camera, but the audio sounds like a (very loud) jackhammer, and seems to hang. Ditto with other viewers (irfanview, etc.) that depend on Quicktime.
However, Nero ShowTime plays the same files just fine.
It's as if quicktime didn't fully install codecs, although uninstall/reinstall sequence didn't help, and no messages indicating any problems.
PS... it used to work great (months ago) -- no clue how it was broken.

I'm experiencing the same problem, with the only difference that my qt has no video on one account, and behaves normally in another account. I compared the versions, but the seem to be the same.

  • Premiere Pro 2.0: Losing audio in .mov files

I'm using Premiere Pro 2.0 on a PC (I know, it's time to upgrade)
A client sent me some short .mov files supposedly shot with a Canon camcorder. They play fine in QuickTime outside of Premiere. But when I import them into Premiere Pro 2.0 and begin to trim the clips, the audio plays for about 5 seconds, then it goes silent for the remainder of the video.
Does anyone know why this is happening and, more importantly, how I can get the audio to play correctly in Premiere Pro 2.0?
For what it's worth, once they are in Premiere, the properties say that they are "12000 Hz - 16 bit - Mono"
Many thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

  • Quiet Audio on .MOV files

I've just finished rebuilding my OS after formating my hard drive. Everything has gone smoothly except for QT.
When I play any QuickTime file I get fine music & sound effects but the dialog is playing at 5% to 10% volume.
Whenever I play a basic MPG file it works fine. If I play music through iTunes it plays fine. Only .MOV files (HD or SD) have this problem. I read in other posts that it has something to do with surround 5.1 channels. Their solution was to update to QT 7.0.4.
Well I'm on QT 7.1.3 and still having this problem.
I have found that when I reinstall QT 6 the problem goes away. I just can't view HD files any more.
    Any help here?

    I have figured it out.
The problem is in Edit>Preferences>Quicktime Preferences
    Click on the Audio tab
Just set channels for "stereo L R"
Evidentally QT doesn't work well with Surround 5.1 on everything

  • No Audio with .mov files

    Guys,
I need your help immediatly. I'm using windows XP and tried many times to play the (.mov) movie files on the QuickTime v.7.1.3 but the voice isn't appearing, no audio at all.
    What should I do???

If the QuickTime Movie Info window doesn't show any audio codecs my best guess is that the file doesn't have any or that the codec is missing from your computer. I suspect the former.
Check the information that came with the camera and visit their Web pages to see if you can find out more.
As a "test" of your QuickTime software visit the Movie Trailers page at Apple's QuickTime page:

I just purchased the new Retina display iMac with Yosemite installed and I noticed that the audio will not play on any of my .MOV video files. The audio seems to work with my other video files such as .MP4 and .3G2. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
There are two potential problem areas with many sub-possibilities here and you will have to some work on your own to determine which issue is at fault.
    1) The MOV file container is generic and may contain audio and/or video data compressed in a format no longer supported by the media player you are using or the media player may not be programmed to expect an otherwise compatible data format to now be used in the MOV file container. In this case, you need to determine what codecs were used to create the data format that is not playing or is not supported. This can normally be done by opening the file in a player and checking the Inspector, Info, Properties, or similar window or use a dedicated media utility to determine this information. Once you know the format you can report back here with the information. You will also need to confirm in which media player you are attempting to play the MOV file. It will then be possible to tell you if the file should be compatible with this player and/or how to fix the issue.
    2) The file may have a "security" issue. That is, Yosemite may include a security update that takes exception to something about the file—i.e., its container, headers, or the method by which the file was transferred to your system or some application used along the way. This problem is more difficult to solve. In some cases, you might be able to simply change the extension or copy the data to a new file container one way or another. In other cases, you might have to wait for Apple to fix the problem with a follow-up update or use an alternative player that ignores the supposed "security" issue.

  • No video - only audio- in .mov files

I downloaded some training videos from the internet. They are Quicktime .mov files. When I open them in Quicktime, I get lovely sound, but a black screen. This is what I have tried:
    1. Installed Perian
    2. Imported into iMovie
    3. Opened with Miro
None of those worked. I am able to play other .mov files, as well as .avi, .mpg and .mp4
I have the latest version of the QuickTime player (7.2). What gives?

    Hi.
Have you tried loading Perian (www.perian.org)? That will provide you with many additional CODECs which SHOULD solve the problem...

  • No Audio with *.mov files with Quicktime 7.4 (92)

Today, I updated to Quicktime 7.4 (92) and tried to play the "Macbook Air - Guided Tour" quicktime *.mov file within a web browser (camino, firefox, safari) from the front page of apple.com and get no sound. However, when I play the new Macbook Air commercial, also from the front page. Sound works great. My system volume works fine.
My conclusion is, it must be Quicktime itself, or the way the "Guided Tour" *.mov was encoded.

    I have a PPC G5 2@2ghz Tiger 10.4.11 1gb RAM, 1TB HD.
I've tested all of my movies (unprotected MP4 files) and they do not play on my Mac. Further testing indicates they also doesn't play with QuickTime directly by finding the file in the iTunes folder using QT Player. This is NOT an iTunes problem as I've seen some people say on other boards but definitely a QT problem.
The same "broken" movies do play from VLC so it's a problem with the QT plug-in and/or codec file(s). The "broken" also won't play in FireFox via the QT plug-in, reporting a QT logo with the flashing "?" error.
I removed DiVX component and that did not correct the problem. All symptoms remained the same. I tried this because DiVX is famously bad for breaking things. Further, the old standby of deleting preferences files has not changed thing.
Running QT player or Running iTunes and then opening the movie requires force quit. Running it from with a browser doesn't lock it up, though.
Movies NOT in the iTunes directory were not affected and play normally leading me to suspect it might a problem with multiple causes.
I hope this help someone figure it out.

  • No audio on mov files

I've batch captured some video using Adobe Premiere CS5. In trying to play these clips with Quicktime, most of the clips have no audio.
Using the inpsector, I noticed a difference in audio formats.
    Clips where the audio doesn't play, show: Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, 4.0 (_ _ _ _)
Clips where the audio does play, show: Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 32000 Hz, 4.0 (L R _ _)
All of the clips play correctly (with audio) in Premiere. I even uploaded one of the problem clips to Vimeo and it plays the audio fine as well. So it appears the audio is there. but for some reason Quicktime does not recognize it.
I copied one of the problem files to another Mac and the lack of audio problem persisted. Both Macs are running Lion.
    Any advice is appreciated.

Quicktime X is a great little piece of software. However, Quicktime X is very finicky on which codec/file format it can decode/play.

Thanks for any of your thoughts,

After playing around with this alot, I moved the clips from one event to another, and then reduced the number of clips in each event file. My theory is that if an event file has too many clips, for some reason it cannot "handle" the audio. Once I reduced the number of clips per event file, everything worked fine.
