.mp3 cannot play on ipod

I just purchased and downloaded some .mp3 files from an internet site. I tried to add them to my ipod and I get the following error message:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "File Name," were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played in this iPod."
I am able to play the .mp3 files just fine in itunes. They are shown to have a bit rate of 24kbps, Sample rate of 22.050kHz, Format MPEG-2, Layer 2, Mono Channels and ID3 Tag: v2.3.
How can I convert these to something that will play on my ipod?

The iPod doesn't support songs encoded as MPEG-1, Layer 2 (i.e. mp2).
Maybe this will help.
How to convert a song to a different format using iTunes.

  • Exported movie cannot play on iPod with video

I exported my slide show to 320x240 .mov file (containing a fairplay AAC track from iTunes). I then dragged it into iTunes and it loads successfully onto my iPod with video. The movie shows up in iPod's menu but when I go to play it, I get a black screen for about 10 sec. (length of movie= 5min38sec) and movie ends.
This file plays fine in iTunes6.0.1 and QT7.0.3. I try to export the movie from QT to iPod format but Export is disabled with that movie probably due to fairplay limitations.

    Hi anthony,
You will probably get better answers in the iPod Video discussions, but here are two Apple links to help you out.

  • "Cannot play on iPod"

I have been getting a message like that everytime I try to put a song on to my Ipod. This song is not a song from a CD, but a song I created through a guitar program. I did everything I needed to, to get it on to iTunes and it plays fine. But when I try to put it on my iPod it woun't let me. So I checked the song info and found out it has a .mid file extension. Also I checked other songs to find out they have the .m4a file extension. Is there any way for me to get this song on my iPod? Any kind of help would be great.
    3rd gen   Windows XP

You can use these instructions to convert the song, unless it's a MIDI file and you are using iTunes 6.03 or 6.04.

  • I cannot play my iPod Touch 4g iOs 6.1.3 on the Sony Dream Machine docking system?

It's not a problem with the Sony. It works with other iPods and is brand new. No other performance issues with my iPod. Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Does it work with other 4G iPods with iOS 6.1.3?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  Bring the dock

  • MP3 plays on iPod and WMP but will not import to iTunes library or play with iTunes

After having this mp3 on my iPod for many years and playing it through PC whilst iPod is connected to laptop, I suddenly cannot play it anymore
Selecting it and clicking play from iPod library results in nothing happening, playing it as part of a playlist leads to iTunes skipping straight over it.  I have exported the MP3 from iPod to PC and it plays just fine in Windows Media Player.  Tryng to import it into iTunes from PC harddrive results in no error message and no import!
Track name and file name do not contain any irregular characters or punctuation.  File is clearly not corrupted as works in WMP and track still plays on iPod when not connected to PC.
I have tried the solution proposed here; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1645916?start=0&tstart=0 but it doesn't work.  Indeed, it doesn't seem to 'save' my selection when I do it.
Incredibly frustrating - please tell me someone has a solution?

File is clearly not corrupted as works in WMP
Don't assume that, because in fact iTunes is very finicky about slight MP3 corruption, and often fails where other players succeed.
Usually, a quick shot from a 3rd party tag cleanup program, as suggested by tt2, will make iTunes happy about the file again.

  • Cannot Play audiobooks on my iPod Nano

The Books icon no longer appears on my iPod Nano and I cannot play wma or mp3 audiobooks. The Fitness, Radio, Music, Clock, Photos, etc. icons are still visible. I have used this iPod for some time to listen to wma and mp3 audio books from my local library using Overdrive to download the audio books from the library and then transfer it to my iPod. That no longer works.  It is not a problem with the library or Overdrive. I can still download and transfer audio books  onto my old iphone 3 and listen to them. When I attach the iPod to the computer it shows up in itunes and under Devices shows my iPod with Music and Audio books, but the transferred audio books do not show up under music or Audio books in iTunes either. iTunes doesn't support wma files but it does support mp3 files. I can transfer library mp3 books to iTunes but then cannot move them to my iPod nano.I tried using Restore iPod in iTunes but when that it changed nothing.

I almost gave up on getting the problem solved and then there it was. I have windows 7 and you have Windows 8 and then maybe you have a newer version of the iP0d Nano. I don't understand their pre-this, post-that versions. I only use my iPod to listen to Library audiobooks. I think the libraries are getting away from using WMA files. Apple no longer supports wma files  so I've tried never to load any new updates although I guess I did by restoring it. I think my version is 1.0.2 rather than what you said you had.
I suggest you contact Overdrive Support. Try this email address since it is the one they used to communicate with me: [email protected]
I can't find the email address I used to originally contact support. It was one of those with a bunch of boxes to fill in and then a place to describe the problem. I have replied to their contact with me and asked to verify a support email address. When I get it I will pass it on to you.
I was looking for a player that didn't require iTunes to transfer files and that supported both WMA and MP3 files. WMA is outdated. Apple iPhone etc. no longer supports it. Neither does Android. They say there is an app that will allow playing WMA files but I haven't been able to get it to work. My iPod Nano now works again so I'll stick to it. MP3 audiobooks play as music on the iPhone and on Addroid if you can get it set up so it plays the book in the correct order.

  • Cannot Play Music Out of My Ipod Stereo

    Hello.
I have a major problem. If anyone can shed light onto this problem it would be much appreciated.
I have a Phillips stereo which is made for Ipod, and it also acts like a docking station which chrages the ipod aswell, now I had an Ipod classic before I got an ipod touch which this stereo docked and charged perfectly. It also played music from the Ipod, you know stuff which it's supposed to do as a stereo.
However, when I got my Ipod touch it wouldn't do anything with it. It registers on screen that the ipod is docked and the speakers start sounding like they're about to play, but the ipod doesnt seem to want to let the stereo play it's music, it would rather play it out of it's inbuilt speakers. The ipod doesnt seem to register that it's docked and won't charge while docked on the stereo.
It won't play music out of it or charge, which is becoming increasingly annoying, I'v tried the settings and can't find anything in the Ipod's setting which may cause a problem.
The reason why I think it's the ipod is because when I turn the stereo onto a different option such as CD, and put the Ipod onto the dock it registers as playing the Ipod and instantly switches to the ipod option---which it's supposed to do if working properly. Not to mention it played the classic perfectly and seems to be just having problems with the touch.
I'v also tried turning the ipod on and off while docked and still nothing worked.
Any Help is appreciate or advice.
    Thanks

Actually, the page you've linked to does not mention the Touch at all - yes, it mentions the iPhone, which is almost the same as a Touch. But it doesn't mention the Touch. I wonder why! In addition, a link on that page mentions downloading more information on the product as a pdf document, but the link doesn't work!
I followed some links from there to other pages and notice that on this page:
    http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/faqview.pl?ctn=DCM278%2F37&dct=QAC&newtmpl=1&refdisplay=HAV_GENERAL_IPOD_SUPPORTY&refnr=0075099&scy=US&slg=AEN there is a problem!
At the top of this page, it states that your "Docking Entertainment System" is compatible with the iTouch 1st and 2nd generation. (Apple do not - and have never - produced anything called an iTouch!) But in the table below that, it is clearly stated that the iPod Touch 2nd generation will not play through the 30 pin Dock Connector, while the 1st generation Touch will.
The same issue is apparent with the Classic, if you can work out which Classic you have! The list at the top says one thing, but the table says another - namely that the 120GB Classic doesn't work through the dock but the "older" 160GB Classic does. No mention of the newer 160GB Classic.
Nowhere on that page is the iPhone mentioned.
Why is there a difference you (probably) ask? Well, the first iPods were charged using a firewire connection (which happens to be 12 volts). Then, later iPods could be charged by either the firewire or by the USB connection (which is 5 volts). The more recent iPods and Touches can only be charged by the USB (5 volt) connection. Usually, this should simply mean that the later iPods and Touches can play through a dock connector but they would not be charged by the device. That's how both my Klipsch speaker dock works and the adaptor for my car stereo. I can play and control the iPod Touch, but it doesn't charge.
So the long and short of this is, it's the Philips device which is the problem. Perhaps Philips have a fix for it. Klipsch did - they withdrew the RoomGroove from sale and only made it available again once it could charge the iPod Touch 2nd generation. (I have one which does charge and one that doesn't.)
Specifically (in case I wasn't clear earlier), there was a change between the 1st and 2nd generation Touch. 1st gen can use firewire, 2nd gen cannot.

You'll need to switch off iTunes Match on the device & sync the iPod with iTunes as hopefully you've kept all your music on your PC.

  • HT1933 I bought six songs using my itunes gift card in February but I cannot play the songs or downlaod them to my ipod because I get an error saying the original file could not be found.  I have used the gift card previously with no issue.  How do I fix

I bought six songs using my itunes gift card in February but I cannot play the songs or downlaod them to my ipod because I get an error saying the original file could not be found.  I have used the gift card previously with no issue.  How do I fix it?

Have you moved or deleted those tracks on your computer (the gift card has got nothing to do with it) ?
You might be able to re-download them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes (re-downloading isn't possible in all countries) - if those songs appear there then delete the entries from your iTunes library (where you are clicking on them to play them and gettinf the 'original file' error), and they should then get a cloud symbol against them for re-downloading.
If they don't appear in that link then have you got them on, for example, an external drive ?
