Hiya all
Does anyone know of a program either from apple or a third party that can compose and convert mp3 files to use on your mobile as a ringtone???
Thanks

Hi De,
did for other reasons a research on versiontracker.com and found the following results for ringtones: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=Ringto ne&plt%5B%5D=macosx&x=0&y=0

  • Cannot edit mp3's for ringtones

Hello All, new to the board. I have a 8320 (ATT) that will not let me edit mp3's for ringtones. I understand that Roxio for Blackberry has some features disabled, including the ability to edit. Oh, BTW I am using BDM 4.5. What is the workaround? Should I install full version of Roxio Muisc Creator? Which version has proven to work, 9 or 10?
In reading postings on the net I am seeing that the Roxio software for Blackberry has issues. Any help for a newbie BB owner would be appreciated. Does BB tech support monitor these boards?

BB tech do not monitor these boards, it is written on top of the discussions list :
"These forums are a peer-to-peer support channel in which users help other users. While Research In Motion Limited will participate from time to time, please visit the Support & Services tab to access direct support options that may be available to you."
About your question, I don't use Roxio. I just take any mp3 tool to cut mp3 into a small file.

  • Using MP3s for ringtones on nokia 5200

I just got the 5200 and i've transferred lots of mp3s to my memory card but the phone will not allow me to use the mp3s for ringtones. When I select options the Use tone option is gray and when I select it I get either a message saying the file size is too large, or when I transferred smaller files I get the error "not allowed by activation key"
    any helpful advice?
    thanks in advance

OK ... here's what I found ... .MP3's on Nokia 5200 won't work as ringtones. Also, .AAC's won't work either unless they have some special code associated with them (supposedly to help protect copyrighted material ... I think it's a scam to make you buy ringtones). However, it will recognize and use .WAV files. I used Nero to convert a 30 second section of an .MP3 to a .WAV file with the following attributes (formatCM,samplerate:22kHz,channels:1(mono),sampling:8bit,bitrate:176kbps). Regardless, any previous setting I used can be altered. These settings gave me a good quality sound and kept a 30 second .WAV file under 600kB (any bigger and Nokia may complain of the file being too big). Pain in the **bleep**.
    Where are you Robbie?

How can I use music for ringtones on my iphone 4?

You can take any MP3 file that it 40 seconds or less and change the file extension to M4R. Then drag it into iTunes. It will appear under Ringtones and transfer over next time you sync,

  • How do I use my music for ringtones?

I got an I phone 4s and I was wondering how to use my music from my I tunes account for ringtones.

You can use computer iTunes to do that.
    Here the DIY way:
    1. Select a title (.mp3 or .m4a) in your iTunes Library
    2. Do File > Get Info on selected title (Windows do Edit > Get Info)
    3. In the dialog choose Options tab
    4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)
    5. Close dialog.
    6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version
Note: If you don't have Create AAC version, switch in menu File > Preferences...(Windows do Edit > Preferences...) > General > Import Settings... > Import Using: AAC Encoder.
    7. When it is done, drag the newly create title to the desktop.
    8. Delete the newly create title in iTunes. <-- This step is important
    9. Rename the title on your desktop from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r
    10. Drag and drop it into iTunes
    Now you have a ringtone.
Make sure it is selected in iTunes for syncing with your new iPhone.

    Hi GroovyChick5
Thank you for posting and welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Most current Nokia phones are capable of using unrestricted mp3's as ringtones
To change a ringtone on Nokia N8, follow this steps:
Press Menu > select Settings > Profiles > select profile you want to personalize > select Personalise > press Ringtone > open Songs folder > Open one of the folders and select the song you want to use as a ringtone.
Note: Don't forget to activate the profile after customizing the ringtones.
If you will still receive an error, switch off the phone and then press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until you feel vibrations.
If my post helped you, please don't forget to click on the "White Star" and if it resolved your issue click on "Accept as Solution"

  • Correct MP3 parameters for minimize lossy-ness and file size

    Hi folks,
Correct MP3 parameters for minimize lossy-ness so as to miminize file size.
I am given a voice recording file in 32k sample rate and bit depth = 16. On spectral frequency display I see that there is not much useful data beyond 3200Hz, which I can ignore.
If I change the sample rate to 11025, frequency range is about 5000Hz which adequately holds the valid range. Now my question is do I lose anything by downsampling the data? Does the downsampling alters some data in the 0-4000Hz range?
My second question is the default option while saving in .mp3 for a file with 11025 sample rate would be 32 Kbps, 11025 Hz. do I gain any quality by encoding to a higher say in 40Kbps or more? What is a best MP3 encoding option for voice only recordings.
Is MP3 more lossy than ACM/ADPCM?
Another off topic question-- Can I find a particular sound? Suppose I see a particular noise and selects that and take corrective measures now I would like to find out any other occurances of that type of noise in the whole file. I understand that exact match is not possible but can I search to find out somewhat similar sounds?
    best wishes to you all,
    Deeptish

In theory, no. If you use a lousy resampling method you will achieve some intermodulation distortion, however Auditions sample rate conversion process is pretty on the dot.
Is MP3 more lossy than ACM/ADPCM?
Yes/No. MP3 and ADPCM (adaptive differential pulse-code modulation) are two vastly different technologies (incidently, the ACM simply stands for Audio Compression Manager, and simply means it's an ADPCM codec for Windows). ADPCM is based off PCM and works in the time-domain. It uses dynamic compression to reduce the dynamic range so the audio is able to be mapped to an 8-bit resolution without excessive quantization noise. Upon playback/decoding, the signal is expanded. The process is far from lossless, however, A-law and μ-law have been telecom stanards of ADPCM for carrying voice traffic for years.
My second question is the default option while saving in .mp3 for a file with 11025 sample rate would be 32 Kbps, 11025 Hz. do I gain any quality by encoding to a higher say in 40Kbps or more? What is a best MP3 encoding option for voice only recordings.
MP3 is an entirely different game. Unlike ADPCM which works on the signal in the time-domain...MP3 processes an stores it's audio in the frequency domain and using physcoacoustic models, removes information from the frequency domain to reduce the number of bits needed to store the audio. The frequency response of an MP3 is determined more by the bitrate than the samplerate. A MP3 that's about 55kbps VBR sampled at 22khz only has a frequency response of 7.5khz, however, that doesn't mean the audio less than 7.5 khz hasn't been modified. Physcoacoustics work over the entire signal, the higher frequencies are the first to go since physcoacoustics figure we'll miss them less...but it does remove audio from the signal in many other bands as well. Sample rate does play a role...some bitrates are not available for specific sampling rates; since a 64kbps file might have 8khz of bandwidth, it's deemeed "too much" for 11khz and is not a valid rate. A 128kbps mp3 using 44.1 and a 128kbps mp3 using 32khz will generally have about the same range of spectral response....save for newer encoders that can squeeze a couple of muddy khz in there.  A 32kbps mp3, in practice, is acceptable for voice, there should be about 4khz of available bandwith, higher bitrates will naturally give you better quality.
Basically, either MP3 or ADPCM are lossy formats, they're just radically different implmentations of audio compression with thier own sets of advantages and disadvantages.

  • Can't convert my itunes to mp3 format for my LYRA MP3 player

I purchashed a mp3 player for my son. We have approximately 177 itunes I have purchased in my library. I can not convert them to mp3 format so I can download on player. Dialog box reads "files are protected and format can not be changed". Please help. I have paid for these tunes and would hate to do so again.

I'm not sure I completely follow what it is you are trying to do, but it strikes me you're making it more complicated than need be.
iTunes imports files in the format set in your preferences.  If you want to import as other than mp3 then set the other format in your preferences.
iTunes is also set by default to put a copy of tracks you add into your iTunes folder.  You can unset this in preferences (I have this unset) but most people don't because it kind of messes up file management.  You can also temporarily disable it for files you are dragging to iTunes by holding the option key.  If you use iTunes for converting it will add them to iTunes - that's the way it behaves. I often use non-iTunes applications such as Max or XLD for doing my conversions (you also get to use the LAME codec for mp3 which some consider better than iTunes).
You can add a column to your lists display which is format, or just go by the file size or bit rate display columns.  While not definitive, I can usually depend upon files saying 128k bitrate or 3 MB in size to be mp3 (I have almost no AAC tracks) vs. AIFFwhich would have much higher bitrate and much bigger files.
If you have mp3 files and want to put them on a flash drive, highlight the items you want to add (it could be a whole playlist) and drag this from the iTunes window to the flash drive in a Finder window.

  • MP3 Conversion to Audiobook Format (MP3 to M4B Conversion)

I have several (175 to be exact) MP3 files that are part of a very lengthy sales course. I would really like to have these in the audiobooks section of my i-Pod/i-tunes so it doesn't rotate into my music choices/shuffles etc.
Is there an easy way to convert these and have them stored in the audiobooks? I have seen a couple remedies that do not neccesarily work. Thanks for any input anyone can give.

To use MP3's as ringtones, put them in \Nokia\Sounds\Digital in phone memory, or \Sounds\Digital on the memory card.
It has now been quite complicated.
A song can easily be set as ringtone .
    But that is it.
It just let itself to be used as normal ringtone.
If I want to use a mp3 song/file stored in my memory card/HDD in music to use as the ringtone for message/to use in alarm I gotta copy that file the way petrib prescribed.
But doesnt it just consume space for same file twice?Message Edited by korngear on 26-Sep-200702:42 PM

  • Mp3's to ringtones

So my friend had a bunch of downloaded ringtones that are in an mp3 format. How can I get them into my ringtones? I have tried everything and nothing seems to be working. Help?!
    Thank you!

"update your existing profile on the phone" means that a user opens profiles list and edits settings for the current profile.
As you have "Loud" profile set as current it is necessary to edit it.
I did not understand about "phone tone".
You can transfer your mp3 files to ringtones folder on your device internal memory or on ringtones folder on micro-sd memory card. After that these mp3 files are available to be assigned as a ringtone to the selected contact in address book.

  • I have a Verizon IPhone 4 and i can't figure out how to get my ringtones from an app to my iTunes account, it doesn't have a tab for Ringtones! I have tried unplugging it and checking if would show up but it didn't, how do you enable the ringtone folder?

Edit > Preferences.  Select the check box for Ringtones, this will add them to the listing in iTunes.
Not sure that really answers your question though.

  • Unit of measure conversion for CIN is not relevant for pricing

During creation of Ad item type order, when we enter the planned ad size e.g. A CO (Columns) x B IN (Inches), the system is showing a message "Unit of measure conversion for CIN is not relevant for pricing" and pricing is not determined in the Billing Data Set. However if the planned ad size is maintained as A CO (Columns) x B MM (Millimeters), there is no impact to pricing conditions.
Any light how to fix this issue?
    Thanks,
    Suseela. V

    Dear Suseela,
You need to maintain Unit of conversion using transaction code JH51. You have to follow the path Logistics-Advertising Management-Master Data-Conditions-Order/Billing Document-UM for Pricing.
Here you can maintain combination using Booking Unit, Content Component, Design type and assign Unit of Measure to get relevant pricing into billing set conditions.
    Hope it will help. Thanks!
