MP3 File Size in CS5.5 & CS6 Compared to AA3

Background.
I am the learning materials coordinator for a Barbershop Chorus and, during the qualifications process, members will email me a recording of their voice singing a song, while in the chorus, for which they have to note and word perfect for them to be qualified to perform that song with the chorus.
I use AA to convert the files they send me to the smallest high quality MP3 I can so they are easily listened to by the person receiving the file and the file size will be relatively small.  Since this is a learning process ASCAP/BMI copyright issues do not apply (the Barbershop Harmony Society has verified this with them).  With the advent of CS5.5 and, subsequently, CS6 the file sizes for a VBR, highest quality MP3, have grown to almost twice the size as before.
AA3, 2870k
CS6, 6034k
Obviously I'm still using AA3 for this conversion though I would like to standardize on the latest version of the software.
Any thoughts?

I performed a quick test comparing an 18 minute stereo file saved in CS6 and 3.0 as MP3, VBR, Highest Quality.  The CS6-generated file was 28MB, while the 3.0 file was 22MB.  However, Audition CS6 uses a newer compression kit that no longer supports Mp3PRO encoding. (Fraunhoefer no longer supports this scheme either, and I, personally, was never that impressed with the results.)  Finally, the "Highest Quality" mode in CS6 encodes around 200Kbps while Audition 3.0 typically encoded around 163Kbps in Highest Quality mode.
I think you'll find a closer correlation between Au3 "Highest Quality" and CS6 "High Quality" VBR presets, when comparing the resulting file size.  However, CS6 Highest Quality should sound better than Au3.

  • Anybody know how to increase the plugin file size limit in Photoshop CS6 to greater than 250 mb?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to increase the plugin file size limit in Photoshop CS6 to greater than 250 mb and how to do it? Can plugins running in PSCC handle larger file sizes than CS6?

Wow, thanks for getting back to me!!
I am running the latest version of HDR Soft Photomatix Tone Mapping Plug-In - Version 2.2 in Photoshop CS6 on a fully loaded solid state MacBook Air. When I attempt to process files exceeding 250 mb with the plugin I get an error message and the plugin will not work. The plugin works fine with anything south of 250 mb. I have also optimized the performance settings in CS6 for large file sizes.
The standalone version of HRD Soft’s Photomatix Pro easily processes files well in excess of 300 mb.
I have contacted Photomatix support and they say that 250megs is simply the max file size that Photoshop will allow to run a plugin with.
So is there any setting that I’m overlooking in Photoshop CS6 that will allow me to process these large files with the plugin? Or if there is indeed a file size limit for plugin processing in CS6 is the limit higher in CC?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Exported mp3 file size is huge!

Does anyone know how to control the size of an exported song? For a 5 minute track I'm getting a 60Mb MP3!! I'm guessing this is done by setting the a different bit rate for the exported song but can't find any options in Garageband to do this.
With such huge file sizes it makes it difficult to share the song through my website.

No, you're not getting a 60 MB MP3, but a 60 MB AIFF file, and that's the regular size for uncompressed audio files. The bitrate in GB is fixed, and you wouldn't want to change it. Instead, convert the file into an MP3 or AAC in iTunes.
(Come back if you need help with doing that.)

  • PC Suite 6.81.13.0 - Limit to MP3 file size?

I've used PC Suite to transfer MP3 files from my PC to my N70. I've used the Convert option to convert to AAC.
When I try to listen to the converted files, they play but there is no sound - on N70 and on the PC.
It works OK for smaller files - is there a limit to the size of MP3 file it can convert?

    Hi,
Files of around 3.5-4Mb play OK. The files that don't play are around 8-10Mb.
Yes, it's Nokia Music Manager I'm using.
Haven't tried moving it without converting - will try this.
When I say it plays but no sounds, what I mean is the music player comes up with the track apparently playing (i.e. all of the controls are there and the progress bar and time move as if the track is playing) but there is no sound.

  • MP3 file size too large ?

    Hi all,
I purchased the C3 to replace my older 6300 a couple of days ago.
It seems that my C3 problem discussed in another topic is almost similar.
I placed a 1Gb memory card and works just fine. I can approach and play all MP3 files on it.
But the option to use an MP3 as a ringtone is greyed out.
Tried to get it to work through personalizing profiles gives me the error message : file size too large ! Everty time and no matter which MP3 I choose. The file size is 4.3 Mb.
I tried editing the file, downsizing it to 770 Kb, but same error message occurs : too large.
Any other suggestions before I decide to bring this phone back ?
    Solved!

  • File size incorrect in Photoshop CS6?

    Hi Everyone,
I have photoshop CS6 on a macbook pro retina display.
When I open an image that is 8MB in finder, photoshop says that it's 143MB.
I did not change anything, just opened the file.
    What did I dod wrong?
    Cheers, Maxime

Becuase the file on disk is compressed.
    In memory, it isn't compressed.
Also, JPEG is a lossy compression, so it will be fairly small compared to the decompressed image or the original image.

  • Change in RAW File Size From CS5 to CC?

I've been shooting with a Nikon D700 in RAW format. When I was using CS5, my RAW files were opening up in Photoshop at approx. 11" x 17" at 300 dpi. (4256 x 2832 pixels). Since I've upgraded to PS Creative Cloud, however, the same RAW files from the same camera are opening up at approx. 9" x 14" at 300 dpi., with the SAME number of pixels...and I can't seem to find any way of changing that. Can anyone advise what's going on here?

I seemed to have more choices; now, unless I check the "Resize" box I'm just left with the "Default 12.1 MP" option. If I leave this unchanged, and open the image from the RAW ACR dialog screen by clicking on "Open Image" at bottom right, it simply opens at 9.44" x 14.187" at 300 dpi. Any other ideas?
You seem to be confused about how many megapixels your camera has.  You have 12.1 megapixels.  4256 x 2832, which is most certainly NOT 11 x 17 at 300 ppi (do the math).
Or maybe you didn't realize what Camera Raw was doing before with the setting you chose.
Check the Resize to Fit box.  Go ahead, it won't bite.  It will give you the opportunity to open your D700 images at an upsampled resolution, as before (which, by the way, is a good idea; you can get better quality images that way - I do it all the time).

  • It is possible to import an .MVC 3D-Stereoscopic file directly into Adobe CS5.5-CS6 ???

    - I have Adobe CS6 Master Collection Suite.
    - The .MVC file format is a format called MultiViewCoding and it is a standard from Sony consumer (TD10E) and professional 3D-Camcorders, also for JVC-Everio consumer 3D-Camcorders!
    - The .MVC is a such of H.264-AVC codec format.
    My Questions:
    1) It is possible to import an .MVC 3D-Stereoscopic file directly into Adobe CS5.5 (in example: from Sony and JVC-Everio 3D-Camcorders) ???
    2) It's possible to import an .MVC files directly into PremierePro CS5.5 - CS6 without any plugin and without Cineform Neo3D plugin?
    3) It's possible to Export an .MVC file too, from CS5.5 - CS6?

  • Does anyone know why I get varying file sizes when I save a jpg (with same settings-None, 12, base "standard", preview checked) from PhotoshopCS5?

I opened a .psd file (300 ppi, CMYK, .jpgs (1626px x 2130px), I saved it as a jpg (None, 12, base "standard", preview checked).
I then closed the original .psd file.
I repeated those steps on the same file and saved a series of 6 .jpgs.
Of those 6 files, I received 2 large files (6.2MB) and 4 smaller (3.2MB) files.
My coworkers who were having trouble opening some of my jpg images in Windows Photo Gallery on Vista OS were able to open the smaller files but not the larger ones.
Do you have any idea why the same settings would give me different file sizes from CS5?
Is there a way I can make it consistently keep the smaller more compatible version?

How well a image data compresses depends on image content.   Image with High detail do not compress well image will little detail will compress well and the file size will be small. Compare a image of a blank white wall to a wall with a black and white checker board wall paper.  One is all white it white no other detail  to detail the other has squares that vary in size because of perspective angle and distance a lot of detail must be recorded.
I do not know why they can not open some of your images. File size should not be an issue.   All your image decoded are the same size  Width number of Pixels Height numbers of pixels background layer only for these are jpeg files.

  • How can i find out the file size of a Keynote on an iPad please?

How can i find out the file size of a Keynote on an iPad please?

I think a rule of thumb is what you're looking for.
Full bandwidth CD audio (AIFF): about 10 MB/min
    Apple Lossless: about 5 MB/min
    MP3 @ 256k: about 2 MB/min
    MP3 @ 128k: about 1 MB/min
Of course the MP3 file size is exactly linear with bit rate.
    As for sound quality:
Apple Lossless is, as the name says, lossless.
MP3 @128k: fine for listening in the car or the kitchen etc. If you have an audiophile sound system, this will remind you why you spent all that money.
MP3 @256K: barely distinguishable from CD on very good equipment.
MP3 @320K: probably not distinguishable from CD.
I presume that since you're talking about importing classical CDs these are ones you own. Remember you can always do it again if you need higher fidelity or if better technology comes out. I import most CDs at 128k, since most of my MP3 listening is in the car, or walking, or as background. And I can always play the CD if I want to sit and listen.
The logic for purchased music is totally different -- you probably won't get to upgrade that without buying it some different way. So buying 128k MP3s (or AACs) is something you'll probably regret later. Buying 256k MP3s is a lot less problematic.

  • How do I scan large black and white documents, creating the smallest file size possible?

I am attempting to scan a 70 page document and prefer it to be a file small enough to send through regular email.  I am not interested in zipfiles, i am not familiar with them.  I have been scanning and converting to .pdf for years, using the lowest dpi reasonable, but my file sizes are still quite large (compared to other .pdf's that are emailed to me).  I know there is a way, just haven't figured it out.

  • File size is very large in 7.0 coamparing to 3.X

    Hi,
When saving the query in 7.0 the file size become very large as compare to saving the same query with the same amount of data in 3.X. Is there any solution to take care of this problem and reduced the file size in 7.0.  Please advice.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The file size increases due to the high formatting options in BI 7.0.
Remove the formatting option from the work book setting in the Bex analyzer in design mode.

  • Can I find out the file size of tracks before I import a CD?

My husband is an audiophile, we listen to classical music. (Although I indulge in some Beatles and other music on occassion.) Is there a way to find out how large the file sizes for each track will be for importing with Apple Lossless versus AAC, as well as different bit rates, before I import the CD onto the computer? I'd like to know how much disk space a classical CD is going to take up before I commit to using up however much of my hard drive it might take. I appreciate thoughts and ideas on the subject.
    Cheers.

What file format are you saving in?
What compression/quality setting are you using if any?
