MP3 files not showing up in published folder

Hi everyone,
A newbie question here: I have completed my site and published it to a folder, for later uploading to a webhost. I took a peek in my published folder and could not find any of the MP3 files that I had put on to my site. While I was creating the site, I dragged the MP3 files from iTunes to iWeb. Everything played just fine. But I'm figuring if I don't see any MP3 files in the published folder, they're not there.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Oy -- never mind. I found the files. See, I am a newbie...

  • MP3 files not showing in iTunes on new iMac

Hi - I have recently purchased my first Mac computer.  I have copied over all of my music but it seems that all the MP3 files are not playing.  It's strange they show in my folder list of itunes and it lets me play them, but in the main itunes folder itself it shows the item with an ! (exclamation mark) saying file could not be found.  Any ideas greatly appreciated
    Thanks

First, iTunes' default settings are for it to copy music to the iTunes folder structure when you add them (but leave the original in place, although it no longer refers to it), and for iTunes to manage your music for you in a very specific folder structure.
Second, the listing you see in iTunes is not generated by iTunes directly referring to your files.  It keeps a library database of the files you have added and in those listings it keeps all the information about that track, including its location on your drive. When you play a track, iTunes uses that listing to go find the media file and play it.
If you do any file renaming, manually deleting, or moving of files and folders, or anything to break that link between where iTunes' library thinks your file is and where it actually is (or was, if you deleted it), you get "!"
You say you are able to play them but iTunes cannot find them.  It would help to know how you are playing them if iTunes cannot find them.  Are you playing them in Quicktime?  Also, you say you see the files, but are they in the iTunes folder structure (assuming you use default settings), or are these the originals?

  • Files not showing up in application folder.

No files are showing up in my application folder. I dragged a new file to my applications folder today and it shows up however it is the only one.  All the applications are still working fine just cant see them.  Any help would be awesome.

Control-click an application's Dock icon and choose Show in Finder. You'll most likely find that it's at the top level of the drive and you dragged the file to the one in your home folder.

  • Audiobooks mp3 files not showing up in iTunes or on shuffle?

I recently purchased some audio books that are mp3. They were a zip file, and I extracted the files, but they won't show up in iTunes. I attempted to just drage the files onto my shuffle (which appeared to work, as I received a "copying" message), but they aren't showing up there either. Help!

    Starting from scratch...
Extract the files from the zipped folder. In Windows 7, right-click the zipped folder and select Extract All...
You should be given an option about where you want to put the extracted files. If not, or it you need to move those files, the usual place to put them is in the Music/iTunes/iTunes Music folder. I suggest that you put audiobooks in a folder named Audiobooks (to keep things organised). You must move them before importing them into iTunes. If you move them afterwards, iTunes will lose them. If there is not currently an Audiobooks folder in iTunes, then create one. So looking into the folders, the path should be as follows:
    Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Audiobooks/<artist name>/<album title>/ and then the individual MP3s.
    Once you have the MP3s where you want them, it should be possible to drag the folder into iTunes. Alternatively, in iTunes;
    so that you can then select Add Folder to Library;
and simply navigate to the folder that has the audiobook files in and add.
That's it. They are now in your iTunes Library.
However, you will probably find that the files import into your iTunes as Music files, and you may want to change them to Audiobooks. To do that, in iTunes, find the files you have just imported, highlight all of them and then select File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind and change the Media Kind to Audiobooks.

  • Audio file not showing up upon publish

    It's me once again.
I am importing a mp3 via the "media" toolbar option. Upon publish I have opened up the page.html and the song is playing. However, there is no audio file in the page_files and it's not working once put on to my hosting space. It should be noted that there is a quicktime slideshow already on the page that is working and is saved in the page_files as a jpg. file (why not a .mov file I do not know). Anyone know what is going on. -Paul

Oh, thanks for clarifying Roddy, I didn't catch what you meant cyclo most likely because I have a page titled "media" and therefore overlooked the media folder. So one last question and I'll stay off the forum for a while. When someone opens up a page with a media file, how does it work? Do they have wait till the whole folder is downloaded or does it select the precise file being used? -Paul

  • MP3 files not showing in iTunes after importing from Windows PC

I have my MP3 music files saved on my computer. For some reason when I try to import a particular folder to iTunes Library, only 3 of the 11 files in the folder show up. Why aren't the other 8 showing up? Can anybody help me with this?

For one of the problem files, right-click it and choose Open With > iTunes.
If the file is compatible, it will start playing and be added to the library.
If iTunes "errors silently" (i.e. does nothing) it means the file is incompatible.  If you are sure it is a valid MP3, treat it with a 3rd party tag cleanup program such as Mp3Val.  That usually suffices to make iTunes happy.

  • Files not showing up in shared folder

I am in a network environment (8 G5 imacs and a G4 Power Mac Server) The G5's are running OSX 10.3.9 and the G4 Sever is running Max OSX Sever10.3. Two of the G5 imacs need to unmount the shared folder and remount to see new content placed in the folder from others. For example: Someone places a Quark file in the shared folder, everyone else can see it right away. The other two need to trash (eject) the shared folder, then reconnect to it to see that Quark document. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to why this is happening or possible fixes?

I'm not sure if this is a fix for you, but I've solved a lot of my networking issues by using a freeware program called SharePoints. Maybe it would help?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • New Saved files not Showing up in finder

When I save a new file, since updating to 10.5.4; new files will not show up in the folder it was saved in, until I close it and then reopen it. I have already performed a fix disk permissions with idisk and ran MacJanitor
Is this a known problem with leopard 10.5.4 I could not find it discussed in the forum.

I Ran Macjanitor - all tasks, I ran the disk utility on my boot disk. Nothing I did fixed the problem. But for some reason - when I booted up today the problem is gone. I thought I had rebooted yesterday as well - but I am unsure about that. So right now the problem is not showing up. I hope it does not come back. How do you mark this when it just went away and you are not sure it will come back or not.

  • IPhoto files not showing up in list

I have many photos on my new MacBook Pro, but when I try to "attach" them to emails, they are not showing up in the listing. I am a new Mac user, but so I don't know how to explain this. If this was a PC, it would be like files not showing up under "My Computer." PhotoBooth photos are listed though. Why is this?

Then something has happened to the permission and or attribute settings on your folders to mark files saved in them as hidden.
Try this Terminal command to show all files and you can turn it off by changing the true to false at the end of the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
If you then see your files tere is a problem with files being market as hidden when they are saved. Create a New Folder in the Root of the drive and look at its Get Info window and post a screen shot of it in this thread.

Sorry, my handful of mp3's had the file name as the id3 tag name.
So, I am seeing the same thing as you.
Oddly, a while back I was trying to help someone out in Mountain Lion that wanted to see the id3 tags in the Finder.
It's all a bit silly. They should have added columns instead or changing it to tag song name.
They are transitioning to having everything reflect the content and not the file system, so this may not be reversible.

  • Help!  Exported Files Not Showing Up!

For some reason when I export a file through CS4 it will not show up in the folder I exported it to. There are no errors in the process and no matter what style of video I just can't find anywhere. Any ideas?

Verify the location and file name of your export in the Adobe Media Encoder before starting the queue.

  • File not showing in SharePoint (IE) but visible in Explorer

I have a document library that has a single file not showing up that I can't seem to track down.  I am hoping someone here might be able to offer something I haven't thought of.
The document library is very much 'stock'.  Verisioning is turned on and minor revisions aren't viewable to folks without edit rights.  I am the admin with full control to everything - as is the user this initially impacted. The file will show
in the Explorer view - but isn't viewable in an 'all files' file via the browser or when attempting to open via Excel.   If we provide the full path/file it does open successfully in Excel and offer the Check Out option - but it won't show up
    in the 'File Open' dialog.
I thought at first it might be a matter of not having a version checked in - but it isn't showing under "Manage files which have no checked in version" menu.   I've gone through the various SharePoint view options and can't find anything there either.
What would make a single Excel file in such an ordinary document library not be visible to users with full control rights?  We have roughly 80k files stored in SharePoint overall - so please don't read this as being our initial test of SharePoint.
    I'd really appreciate any ideas...
    -Troy

Just to add a few more details. I have been able to add the file to a different library and they uploaded fine. The library in question is created off of a template and has 2 metadata fields. The fields are also being used in the other library, but that
was created from a different template.
The site and initial 4 libraries were created from a site template and then the library was added from a different library template. Checking ULS logs now, but doubtful I will find anything.
