MP3 on desktop wont open in iTunes or add to library, has done so in past

I've been trying to add two MP3 files that are on my desktop with no luck. If I double click on them, iTunes opens but does not play the music, and the music is not in my library. I've tried adding them to the music folder or selecting "Add to library..." and choosing the file, but nothing seems to work. This used to work fine, I don't know what changed! Any suggestions?

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers.
I noticed this problem occurring when certain third-party utilities (The Tagger, in my case) inadvertently change the actual file's Kind (Finder) from "MP3 Audio File" to no specific file type.
When the MP3 file's Kind is removed (Get Info to check), iTunes will not recognize it - whether by dragging to the library's window or File > Add to Library.
It usually takes a program like Switch to re-export the old mp3 to a new mp3 to reapply the "Kind" to the file's info.
Just an observation...

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.  iTunes Match is a different service from iCloud.

Your media should be safe, though you should backup routinely anyway.

  • ITunes 10 add to library not working

I was trying to add some MP3's to my iTunes collection tonight and am seeing that iTunes 10 add to library function is not working at all.
    Really irritating.

Same issue here and thanks for posting that the location of the iTunes content went back to the default after upgrading to 10....I'm sure I would have been scratching my head over that one for awhile. I've got all my content on Netgear Stora MS2110 home server and after adding a few new MP3s using my Macbook I decided to update my iTunes library on my PC, but using the "File/Add File to Libary" didn't work. Once I updated the path to my content I was able to add at least one of the MP3s on my server to my PC iTunes library using the File drop down menu or drag and drop, but not all of them - strange. Definitely a bug that needs fixing.

  • Firefox closes and wont open on installing certain add ons

I was using Firefox today and suddenly one of the add ons ( Download Helper ) started to be irresponsive. I tried to close firefox and reopen it and wont open. The icon flashes and goes away. I removed the app using Appzapper and downloaded and run a clean reinstall. Now, I went on to download all the add ons I used to have (Download Helper, Sage and few others) and restarted firefox and the symptoms reappeares. I tried to create a new profile and it didn't work. I used Safe mode to deactivate the plugins and it works, whenever one of them ( which I used to have before the problems ) is activated Firefox crashes. I went on to create a new Account and tried the same and it is working perfectly. So, can you tell me what I might have done wrong to cause this?

    Hello Pranav.

  • I am told I cannot open my Itunes account because another user has it open.

How can I open the Itunes account when am the only user and don't know of another user on my account?

Your account might of been hacked, or it could of been an error. Try signing in again later, and if that still there, contact apple, or at last resort, you could make a new apple ID.
    Hope this helps.

  • Itunes crash add to library

MY itunes is giving me grief.
Im running  itunes 10.3.1 on OS 10.6.7
I use all AIF files recorded from vinyl through a soundcard.
I usually just drag them into an Itunes playlist.. (say about 10 at a time).
Right now i cant even drag one into a playlist, let alone 10.. & i cant use the add to library function either.
Itunes simply goes into spinning beachball mode & i have to force quit.
    any ideas?

Hello I have managed to resolve this issue.
I found a video on youtube showing me how to clear your itunes plist and cache files. http:/http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBsrNS2DSlc
Back these files up in a seperate folder on your desktop, then delete them from where you find them, empty your trash then restart your imac and download a new version of itunes and install it
restart you mac again and it should be sorted.
please note that you only need to remove the files for itunes, not all the cache and plist files
    hope this helps
