MP3 playback clips and skips

Hi, using the media player that comes with the curve to play MP3 from the micro SD card the playback clips about once every 3 seconds and often jumps to the next song, anyone here of a fix for that?

First try doing a battery pull while the device is on, leave out for 30 sec.  Re-insert and wait the 1-3 min boot up time.  Go right to media player and try to play somethig.  It may be that it's low on memory.

  • DVD Playback Freezing and Skipping

I know there have been a million posts on this topic (I've perused many of them), but I thought I would post my own specifics in hopes of getting an answer that might help. I have a 62 minute video project (high school football highlight video) that I put together in FCP. I exported the Video as an MPEG2 16:9 Best Quality 120 minutes using Compressor. The Audio is Dolby2 AC3 format as most posts have recommended. I am building and formatting using the default settings on DVDSP. The playback is fine about half way through but starts to skip, pixilate and freeze on an off after that. Using Memorex, DVD-R (16x, 4.7GB, 120min) media for burning with my iMac internal DVD burner. Original footage is basic Digital 8 video captured on a Sony video camera. Is there anything that I can do with settings or other factors that will fix this problem.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks, I will try another option. What about the video compression. Is there a better format to compress the video files to? That is the only other variable that I can see with my limited experience.

  • MP3 Playback problems / hiccups / skipping

My 16gb iPhone seems to have a problem of some sort. When I play music on it through headphones (have tried numerous headphones) or my car dock, about half the tracks will have a hiccup in the song, where it emits a high-pitched squeal for about half a second, then resumes. If I rewind to the same spot, it happens again usually (not always though).
The same songs plays fine in iTunes and on my iPod 30gb Photo.
These files are encoded in MP3 VBR. I am *not willing to re-encode them*. Please don't suggest I convert to AAC. That is not a solution and results in degraded sound quality due to transcoding, and I do not have the patience to convert 4000+ songs just because the iPhone can't do what an iPod 30gb from years ago can.
I have the latest firmware (unless a new one came out in the past week).
I've tried airplane mode. In fact I used airplane mode on an actual airplane. Same problem.
I've also completely wiped the iPod and re-synced. Same problem.
My iPhone is still under warranty. Is this issue common, could it be a hardware problem, or what?

    TAsunder,
It could be causing a corruption when transferring the songs to the iPhone if the monitor is not using USB 2.0 ports. Try erasing the songs off the iPhone and re-adding them with the iPhone cable connected directly into your computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Audio playback is clipped and has low volume

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me debug my audio problems.
The problem is that audio playback is clipped and has low volume.
The details of my setup are as follows:
    - An onboard soundcard (ASUS M4A78LT-M-LE motherboard), identified as Intel HDA in dmesg:
    description: Audio device
    product: SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
    vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
    physical id: 14.2
    bus info: pci@0000:00:14.2
    version: 00
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
    capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list
    configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=64
    resources: irq:16 memory:f9ff4000-f9ff7fff
    - ALSA (snd_hda_intel driver) and Pulseaudio
My ALSA mixer settings (which were used in the recording shown in this post) are at pastebin.
The mixer settings were chosen so that all "dB gain" is 0.00 for all columns in alsamixer.
Recording an MP3 (played at full volume) from the Stereo Mixer source in audacity I gives output which looks clipped and has low volume (link).
This occurs with any MP3 and any other sound source (Youtube in Chromium, etc.)
The problem does not occur when I boot into Windows XP, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.
I'm also attaching a screenshot of my alsamixer playback screen for the soundcard (link)
    Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi,
I have the same problem since December 2011 with a similar Mainboard (Asus M4A78T-E).
    Did you resolve your problem?
    Thanks

  • Palm Pre - MP3 Playback skips

Haven't had any troubles with mp3 playback on my Palm Pre until yesterday. Every song I listen to skips intermittently.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I only had 2 or 3 other cards open at the time of the malfunction (gps, email, phone, and music player). Would that be enough to cause this? I understand that memory is memory, but since multitasking is the cornerstone of the device's design philosophy I think it's fair to expect 4 or so apps to all work at the same time.
That said, I usually have something closer to 8 apps open, and that has never affected my listening experience.

  • I'm seeing a strobing effect during playback of clips and timeline in FCP7. How do I fix?

I'm seeing a strobing effect during playback of clips and the timeline in FCP7. Footage isn't corrupt. Apple techs said its not hardware after their tests at the Apple store. I did a full reinstall of FCS. There's 4GB of RAM free at all times during playback. The problem is still there... How do I fix this?
    Strobing:
By strobing, I mean there's only about 1 ever 10 frames playing back for me. Everything is rendered and the comp settings match the clip settings. It's not constant though, but the strobing is triggered at certain points on the timeline and effect a few clips after that (10 seconds or so at a time), and then when the next clip is displayed on the timeline the strobbing stopps and is reset back to normal playback... until another random clip is encountered by the playback head to which then the process repeats. Also, when strobbing is happening and I move the playhead back a few seconds, or pause & play, or even forward a little on the same strobbing clip (basically when i inturrupt the playback process) the strobbing STOPS! I can watch the same footage that was strobing without it strobing any longer until I move back the playhead far enough and try again, then the strobing is triggered again. I hope this all makes sense, it's very picular and I've seen or heard of nothing like it in my 4 years of editing in FCP7.

SStrange my enough the problem started occurring a few hours into the project. The only thing I can think of is that I shot with all Canon 5D mark iii footage when I usually shot with a mark ii. My workflow hasn't changed and I have never had this problem. I've also used other mark iii footage in the past without a problem but I don think I've edited entirely with mark iii footage

  • I am trying to insert a cut photo into a movie clip. the cutaway photo appears above the clip and cuts away when you move the curser across it, but does not show the cutaway when in playback. What am I missing?away

I am trying to insert a cutaway photo into a movie clip. The cuaway photo appears over the clip and will appear in the clip when you manually moce the curser across it, but will not appear in the clip during playback. What am I missing?

Try using the SHARE menu to share your movie in the sizes you need. It should work on the shared copy.
Another thing to try would be to restart your Mac so you have fresh memory.

  • Player 10 - Slow and Distorted MP3 Playback.

I began experiencing this problem once I download Flash
Player 10. The mp3 playback is slow and sounds very distorted.
This only seems to occur with mp3s at a 48k sample rate. Mp3s
at a sample rate of 44.1k sound normal. Is there a way to fix this
without converting the sample rate? Is Adobe working on a solution?
    Thank you.

I'm getting the same thing. Are all of you on Apple platform? It seems to be the only place this is showing up.
    Macbook Pro - OSX 10.5.6
When I uninstall flash player and reinstall 9 it works fine. On another not when using CS4 at work the same thing happens locally when I test the movies.
It's sounds like music on nitrous in hell. .. . .

  • Changed MP3s in iTunes and now I have iPod playback issues...

I have some really bad quality MP3s, so I've been going through my iTunes library and re-ripping CDs to higher quality. I want to keep my played and skipped data, so I've been deleting the existing MP3s and telling iTunes where to find the new ones so my data stays.
After doing this, I sync my 5th gen and the new MP3s are copied over. When I play the new MP3s on the iPod, only the MP3s that I've changed, will get to around the last minute of a song, then skip to the last second, and hang with one second left until I change the song. When I play the same songs in iTunes they play just fine from start to finish. This is ONLY happening with the MP3s that I've changed.
I was thinking maybe it's a sync issue, so I did a restore on the iPod and still have the issue.
As a test, in iTunes I deleted one of the albums I was having an issue with and re-imported it. After syncing my iPod, the album plays just fine without any issues.
Is there any way I can resolve this besides removing and re-adding them to iTunes? I'd really like to keep all my played/skipped/date added data.

    John,
In iTunes, when you manually replace the file for an existing library entry, iTunes is supposed to pick up all the tag information, etc, for the new file. However, you can get some subtle and (to me) inexplicable effects that seem to be due to iTunes retaining some partial "memory" of the old file that will then cause unexpected behavior. I have now learned to avoid it by starting a new library entry.
As you note, this does mean losing play counts.

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.

  • Redirects playback properly when skipping to the beginning of a WMA track

Redirects playback properly when skipping to the beginning of a WMA track-from firmware .0
Does this mean that there is no longer a /8second delay between song with WMA? I don't use WMAs so I was wondering if I should consider using them over mp3.

I'm trying to upload the firmware to my micro and keep getting the 'something is interfering' message---I followed the info to turn off mediasource and other programs, but keep getting the same message. I read further as far as turning off the processes starting with CT, but when I attempt this I get a warning message--my question is: if I turn off these processes, will I be able to get them going again w/o majorly screwing anything up? Basically, the warning message scared me :smileysurprised:
    Thanx!!

  • (ALMOST) Gapless MP3 playback (for CREATIVE DA

By a simple search I found dozens of threads asking for gapless playback. Mixes, Li've albums or studio albums with consecuti've tracks NEED and MUST have gapless playback.
Ok, unless you bought the Rio Karma before Rio was defunct, SORRY BUT NO CAN DO.
That was the only, and I do mean THE ONLY, player that EVER supported true gapless playback.
However, if you're reading this it means that you have a Creative player and this means that you can have the second best thing which is ALMOST gapless playback...
There are basically 3 reasons for gap between MP3s:
and 2 are on how the MP3 itself is encoded.
    - Some encoders nati'vely either insert silence at the end (and some times even beginning) of the tracks. On the other hand some others seem to leave out the last 00 ms of the track.
    - Some other encoders insert garbage at the beginning (and again, some times also at the end) of a track.
Because these faults are inherent in the resulting MP3 nothing least a sophisticated (and CPU/power consuming) algorithm by intelligently detecting and removing those silences/garbage could fix.
    - The 3rd factor is the player itself. iPods for instance (at least the older ones, I don't know about the latest) insert a 500 ms pause between all tracks (in order to cache the next one). In that sense you (and me) are lucky.
Of all the DAPs (except the afore mentioned Karma) Creative's are the ones with the smallest gap between tracks you could find!
This means that we still have a chance for an ALMOST gapless playback as long as we can avoid errors and 2.
With that said, enter the LAME encoder, the BEST MP3 encoder to date and EAC, the best CD-ripper (in my opinion) which of course can use LAME as an external encoder.
The later LAME releases were designed to avoid the afore mentioned problems while the EAC has a special setting in its' menu (EAC options-> Extraction):
    "Synchronize Between Tracks"!
According to EAC: "At track junctions EAC is able to synchronize between the two tracks, making it sure that no pops/gaps will occur on these junctions. This works of course only if adjacent tracks are extracted."
Just to test I tried encoding the same song twice, once alone and once with the two adjacent tracks. the two resulting files had a difference of 4 KB, not big but enough to convince me that something was done differently the second time.
After ripping one album with several seamless tracks I put them on my Micro.
The result: Less than perfect but more than what I was expecting!!!
The first of those tracks changed to the second without me being able to notice ANYTHING. The next two however changed with a very sudden change in dB and on that case a few-ms gap was noticeable. The other two also had a somewhat noticeable gap but only if you knew exactly when it was coming.
In short, less than perfect but more than the others. Try this yourselves and tell me how much (if at all) this method satisfies you!
(At least until Creative decides to at least make their players cache(v) the next song as soon as the previous starts emptying from the cache(n).)
I will be waiting for your feedback!
    Cheers!

Yep! The BEST possible feature an MP3 could have (other than remembering the track and position last played which the Micro does) is gapless play.
Update: There seems to be a certain trigger in LAME that allows marking consecuti've tracks as "gapless". I tried re-encoding the afore mentioned tracks with the noticeable gap and they indeed had an improvement! The noticeable gap became ALMOST noticeable.
HOWEVER, I DO NOT recommend it as this seems to COMPLETELY mess up the player's duration calculator:
The first 2:3 track was seen as a 9:37 track while the second 5:45 track was seen as a 5:5!!! The files played fine though and skipping also functioned somewhat correctly so if anyone finds the gap produced with the afore mentioned method still unacceptable and don't mind the wrong durations then rip the files in wav and use the command: "lame --nogap ...>"
SPECIAL NOTE: There also appears to be a --nogaptags trigger that allows the use of VBR tags in gapless encoding that fixes the wrong durations but ironically enough reverts to the pre-gapless trigger gap!!!
    Cheers!
