Mp3 player doesn't like my tiBook!

I got a 4GB mp3 player which, they said, is Mac compatible.
It did appear on the desktop [tibook,Tiger] and I could drag/drop files.
But I found that files as seen on the player's screen would not get deleted - even though I dragged them to the trash on the desktop.
This suggested to me that this is not really a Mac friendly player...
Then another problem emerged. I can no longer 'pause'. Instead I get taken back to the start of the first item in the playlist. [It did work ok when I first used it. So it appears it got a 'bug'. I think that perhaps the format was messed up by using my Mac on it....]
I got 'iTuneMyWalkman' to act as an intermediary - and that's great. But I don't know how to fix the pause problem.
Someone said something about FAT32 - but goodness knows what that is and how it works! The website left me staring at the wall for a week [not really!]
Anyone help? [Shall I bin it and buy an iPod?!! ©€¡¶¥]
Thanks
John

"the mp3 player should have a clear or reformat function to erase its memory."
Unfortunately the closest it gets to that is 'Firmware version' [LKC9123_0101F] and 'Firmware upgrade' [which I can't work out how to do.... the screen goes blank after showing a connect image - but then nothing much happens except the sound of birds in the garden.................]

  • MP3-Library doesn't like some of MediaSource's ID3 t

    Just a tip for MP3-Library users:
    On rare occasions, MediaSource 3.30.2 will produce an ID3 tag that MP3-Library doesn't like. (This is pretty rare -- out of 45 tracks I updated the tags on, 6 did this.) This results in the file being displayed as corrupted. If you select "Analyze/Fix MP3," it finds a frame or two with random specifications at the very start of the file, followed by a single bad frame, and then all good frames.
    If you check all availiable fix options (delete selected frames [check the junk and bad ones], delete garbage before st frame, delete garbage after last frame), it lops about 30 bytes off the end of the tag/header and takes a few good frames off the start of the file.
    According to MP3Utility and EncSpot, there's nothing wrong with the files, and they play just fine in MediaSource, Winamp, and on the Zen. The header data that was destroyed doesn't affect the ID3 data. It only seems to have removed the Xing header. (No, I don't use Xing. LAME 3.97 alpha puts Xing-compatible headers on its VBR files.)
    The following are the summary data that MP3Utility shows. This is from the original file, fresh out of LAME:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
    Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
    Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
    Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
    This is after importing the file into the PC Music Library and clicking "Update Tag." I didn't modify anything, just told it to re-write the ID3 tag:
    <i>File size: 3,63,232 bytes
    Offset to first frame header: 2,630 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
    Bitrate: VBR (Xing); Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
    Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 47 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 8,945
    Estimated time: 3:54 (234 secs.)</i>
    And this is after MP3-Library "fixed" it:
    <i>File size: 3,629,325 bytes
    Offset to first frame header: 2,600 bytes
    MPEG version .0; Layer III
    Bitrate: 224 kbps; Sample rate: 44,00 Hz
    Channel mode: Joint stereo
    Private: No; CRCs: No; Copyrighted: No
    Original: No; Emphasis: None
    Frame size: ,52 samples/frame
    Frame length: 73 bytes/frame (unpadded)
    Pad size: byte(s)
    Estimated frames: 4,96
    Estimated time: 2:0 (30 secs.)</i>
    No, MP3-Library DIDN'T chop 04 seconds off the file. The estimated frame count and length are WRONG because the Xing header was destroyed by MP3-Library. This header would normally tell MP3Utility how long the file really is, otherwise it takes the bitrate of the first frame and extrapolates that over the file length. (Without this header, many programs' progress sliders won't be as accurate.)
    So, if MP3-Library tells you a file is corrupted after going through MediaSource and the file wasn't corrupted before, DON'T fix it. You'll only make things worse. I've never seen MediaSource or my Zen actually damage a file.
    (At first, I told it to fix 'em. Now I'm going through and restoring the backups it made.)

    i have used mp3-libary many times before because it said a large amount of my collection was corrupted. but it seams to be better.as i havent used media source to import them so i think they may have actually be corrupt. but interesting findings.

  • Flash mp3 player doesn't scale when page zoomed

    It's possible there is nothing I can do to fix this, but wanted your expert advice.  Thanks for looking at this.  Gary
    I have installed a mp3 player on my site from dewplayer http://www.alsacreations.fr/dewplayer
    It looks fine when I pull it up in a browser:
    But when I zoom the page (control-alt-scroll) the player remains the same size and does not scale with the page.
    It does scale correctly if you are minimizing the window (ie: clicking the top right minimize box on the browser).
    Here is the html:
    div id="column2Right">
    <h3 id="firstTopic">Featured Song</h3>
    <div id="albumArtShadow"><img src="images/album art/carly1.jpg" width="150" height="150" border="0"></div>

    <param name="flashvars" value="mp3=mp3s/carlyAllyse_somday.mp3" />
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
    </object>
    </div>
    <!--close dewPlayer-->

    Here is the CSS
    #column2Right #dewPlayerRcolumn {
        padding: 0px;
        height: 20px;
        width: 195px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
        margin-left: -5px;

    I have the same issue, and it is a browser issue. Like you mentioned, Chrome and Internet Explorer scale all Flash content properly. I have tried Firefox, Nightly, and Cyberfox (Firefox-based) and they all have the same problem. It isn't a dealbreaker for me right now but it is very annoying and I'd love it if the developers at Mozilla could look into fixing it (possibly in collaboration with Adobe). Also, even using the Flash beta (version 16) doesn't work.

  • MP3 Player doesn't work on my computer anym

    Gooday,
    after i have cleared my computer, my mp3 player, ( jukebox zen extra, 30 gb.) doesn't work anymore on my computer. As soon as i turn on my player, my mouse doesn't work anymore and my player doesn't work either.
    Some ideas? I have new drivers installed, but still nothing. Forgive for my english, but i am dutch!
    thank you for your help
    greetings john

    Sounds like a USB problem with the PC.
    There are various things you can try, but as Cat suggests you should ideally check the player with another PC say a friend's just to be sure it's OK.
    In terms of the PC, make sure you have the latest USB chipset drivers and BIOS for the motherboard, and that the player is connected directly to the PC itself not via a hub. Make sure to try all the USB ports on the PC.

  • MP3 Player not detected by Macbook

    I have an Archos Gmini XS202s mp3 player, which I've been quite happily using on my PC for a while now, but when I plug it into my Mac, the player says it's connected, but the Mac doesn't show anything on the desktop, and the Finder doesn't show anything either.
    If I go into 'About this Mac', and then 'More Info', it shows the Gmini connected to the Hi-speed USB, but I can't access it.
    The mp3 player doesn't need any software.
    I'm a new Mac User, so I could just be doing something really stupid, but I would appreciate any help.
    elmo

    This is from the Archos site:
    Macintosh™ OS X
    If you have OS X, you must update to version 10.3.9 or newer. You must also change the Gmini™’s USB Port setting to ‘Hard Disk’. From the main menu, go to Setup>System>USB Port and change it to ‘Hard Disk’.
    You will now simply plug the Gmini™ into your Macintosh® as enumerated above, and
    within a few seconds, the Gmini™ will be recognized as a mass storage device (Hard Disk)and mount on the desktop. You can now use the hard drive called Gmini XS202 like any other external hard drive.

  • How do I copy some music from my itunes library to a MP3 player?

    I have a Sandisk clip sport MP3 player and would like to download files from my iTunes library.  Do I have to use the sync?  If so, how do I enable sync on my Mac?

    Drag the songs from the iTunes library or iTunes Music folder to the device in the Finder. If it doesn't show up there or that doesn't work, check the device's documentation.

  • C7 - mp3 player

    Hi, I've recently updated my 6303 to C7 I have problem with mp3 player. I like to listen music from various artist group in on file directory ( mix of music). In 6303 I could play music from file directory (player played all pieces in directory), in C7 player plays only one piece and thats all. I can't create playlist, because I have to add piece by piece, but in 6303 I could add all directory. Help me please, is there any other player I could use? Or maybe Nokia release new firmware that fix my problem?

    I understand your problem well, as I had the same problem with my old 6120c. I assumed Nokia would have solved this problem on my C7. Are you sure you were able to play a whole folder on another Nokia phone?
    When you play a song from the file directory it's as if the phones explorer is playing the song. It's not possible to use any of the mp3 players functions, such as creating a playlist when you play music from a folder.
    The solutions I've come up with are the following:
    SOLUTION 1. create a playlist on your computer and copy the files to a folder (media monkey works great for this). In that folder select all tracks and rename the album to the name you wish for the playlist. This way when you copy the folder to your C7 you can find the playlist in the music library of the mp3 player. However, before the album/artist shows up in the music library, you have to select "refresh library" from the options.
     Unfortunately another problem with the C7 is that you cannot search for albums or artists separately, but only artists and albums combined. When you find the album, under an arbitrary artist's name (not the first in the list) you can hold your finger down on the album and choose "add to playlist" and create a playlist from the whole album.
    SOLUTION 2. Make sure all your mp3s are correctly tagged with the artist names and albums and browse through your library adding on track at a time....
    Wouldn't it be great if the programmers saved us users time by actually fixing such problems and programming a user-friendly mp3 player?
    When using the MP3 Player on the C7 I get the feeling the programmers never used an MP3 player. They're still listening to cassettes while programming. Even my old 6120's mp3 player had better library browsing: including separate menus for tracks, artists, albums, track lists, genres and composers and an option to search in all these menus!
    Hope I helped you out!

  • Using automator to add songs to an .mp3 player

    I'm using a non-iPod .mp3 player. iTunes recognizes it as a "device" and I am able to add/remove songs manually in iTunes. It can only play select .mp3 files so I have created a "smart playlist" in iTunes that only contains the files my player can play. I have over 20GB of music, most of which is from a friend and is unfamiliar to me. I've been using shuffle to randomly select songs to put on there, but it takes time and effort to manually select the files, delete them from the player, and add new ones. I want to automate it so that random .mp3's are added to the player whenever i connect the device and iTunes is open.

    Thanks for that tip.
    I found what the problem was (kind of) ...
    When I tried to delete the songs that shouldn't be there, the delete function wouldn't work. When I pressed the button for "delete file", instead of deleting the file, it would take me to the first song which I didn't want to delete.
    What I did in the end was:
    * I chose the first song (which was meant to be there).
    * I chose "Delete everything" ---> This time the delete function worked properly and the disk was wiped empty.
    * I then added all the songs I wanted individually again to the mp3 player.
    * I checked the mp3 player after adding the desired songs --- all the undesired songs had disappeared (unlike last time when they were still on the mp3 player even after I had removed them using the hard drive of my computer to open the mp3 player and delete the songs).
    The problem was that the delete function didn't work properly when I was trying to delete the undesired songs (that weren't meant to be there as I had taken them to the Trash on my hard drive).
    I might try your suggestion next time. I presume you mean empty the Trash on my mac. My mp3 player doesn't have a Trash folder (not that I can see anyway).

  • How to erase songs from an MP3 player?

    I know this is strictly not an Apple question but I have looked around and cannot find an answer to my problem. I have an MP3 player. It is formatted to DOS FAT.
    I can add mp3 songs without any problem to the MP3 player by just attaching it to a USB cable and then moving songs from iTunes Library by drag and drop.
    I am having trouble erasing songs from the mp3 player.
    I put the songs I do not want into Trash by dragging and dropping or by just choosing Put into Trash and they disappear from the window.
    However, the songs are still on the mp3 player and I can still play them.
    I have tried deleting the files from the mp3 player itself but it doesn't work either.
    I am now thinking of formatting the mp3 player and erasing the disk using Disk Utility. Will that work? Or would that mean that my mp3 player will no longer function as an mp3 player?
    The documentation is in a non-English language as the mp3 player was bought overseas so I can't get help from the mp3 manufacturer's website.
    Any suggestions?
    I don't want to muck up the mp3 player so that I cannot listen to music. I'd rather keep the unwanted songs than do that because I will have to visit the A/S center to make the mp3 function again and that's a lot of bother. So that's why I am checking here first before I do anything drastic.
    Thanks.

    Three issues here.  The pre-pending is useless when selecting songs to play, plus it.takes up much of the admittedly limited space in my on-screen menu.  Since it doesn't help me select a song to play, it simply prevents more relevant info from being displayed in that area.  However, there is a second area on the menu that is designed to list title, artist and album but those fields are blank - despite I-tunes inclusion of the info in the xferred files.
    JCP,
    Regarding the tags, on an MP3 CD iTunes simply burns whatever is embedded in the MP3 file.  From your description, it sounds like the Onkyo is seeing the filenames but not the tags, which does seem strange.  You may want to try the question in an Onkyo forum.
    If you don't need the pre-pended serial number, and don't care about the sequence, you can burn from iTunes as a data CD instead of an MP3 CD.

  • Can I use my new MP3 player in my car like an iP

    I just bought a Creative Zen MicroPhoto MP3 player and I love it. I was wondering if they make a piece so I can play my MP3 player in my car like my friend can with his iPod. Just wondering.......

    Any device that has a cable which connects to the headphone jack of an ipod will work with a Creative mp3 player. The best method of connecting is with a cable to the aux in on the car stereo, although some people have commented that the volume in their car doesn't get loud enough that way(it depends on the car). Another way to connect is using a cassette adapter if your car has a tape player. If not, the third option is using an FM transmitter(they are illegal to use in some places such as the UK though).

  • HT1391 I recently purchased music from power music. I downloaded it to I tunes. I don't know where to look for it in itunes. I am not that computer savvy but I would like to put it on my mp3 player. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    I RECENTLY PURCHASED WORKOUT MUSIC FROM POWER MUSIC. I HAVE DOWNLOADED THEM TO ITUNES. WHERE DO YOU LOOK FOR THE DOWNLOADED FILES IN ITUNES? I AM NOT REALLY COMPUTER SAVVY. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO DOWNLOAD THEM TO MY MP3 PLAYER  APPRECIAAND HOW DO I GO ABOUT DOING THAT? THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP. GREATLY APPRECIATED.

    Please turn off your caps lock.
    All caps indicates shouting, is considered rude, and is difficult to read.  Many will not read such posts.
    Your music will be in Library>Music on the left side of the itunes page.
    Itunes only syncs with Apple devices.

  • Xbox360 doesn't see iPhone as an mp3 player

    My iPod nano used to work fine with the xbox360, with my iPhone, the xbox360 sees it as a camera and I can browse the pictures inside but it is not recognized as a "portable device".
    Does anyone else have this problem? I just upgraded the iPhone firmware and I have the latest iTunes version. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you for your time,
    Gozu

    The problem lies with the xbox 360 not the iphone. The 360 at this time probably doesn't have any drivers to know what the iphone is when you connect it, I am surprised that it even comes up as a camera and lets you browse the photos.
    You can go to the xbox website and request that microsoft add iphone mp3 player support drivers to the fall update of the xbox 360. I don't think there is anything apple can do about it.
