MP3 players with bookmarking for audio bo

I am trying to find an MP3 player that is very good at playing audio books. Most MP3 manufacturers do not really address the use of their players for audio books so features that apply to books are left out of their discussions. I've found a website that tests MP3 players for audio books, but it only lists a few players?and seems behind in their testing. They do have a list of criteria that they use to approve an MP3 player; their list follows:

Must be able to play secure or protected WMA files: Windows Media Audio (WMA) is an audio compression format similar to MP3, but with built-in digital rights management (DRM) for copy protection and usage restrictions. The DRM used by NetLibrary eAudiobooks controls expiration of your eAudiobook, so that they will expire at the end of the borrowing period.
. Must be able to play a WMA file with a minimum bit rate of 32 Kbps
. Must be Windows 2000, XP or Vista compatible
. Must be compatible with Windows Media Player version 9 (WMP v9) or higher: This is used for transferring or synchronizing files to the device.
. Must have [On/Off] resume, pause/resume functionality, or true bookmarking: These features enable you to return to your place in the book. The least desirable?alternati've is to fast-forward to find your place in the book each time you resume reading.
. Must have an LCD time display of either HH:MM:SS or MMMM:SS: These time display formats allow the device to play and handle long tracks or files. The time display is also important when returning to a designated place in the book.
. Must have a minimum of 52 MB of storage
. Must pass the NetLibrary Long Play Standard: The device must be able to play a track with duration of 8 hours or longer (file size usually 256 MB or larger).
I guess one of the key features is the [color="#ff0000"]bookmarking option so that you can continue a book where you left off. Can you recommend some MP3 players that meet the above requirements?One to?5 MByte should be plenty of memory, we don't need a lot of storage capacity because we only borrow (check out) the books from our local library. but by taking away those features, the new creative players are now very similar to idiot pods. albeit more reliable. the one edge creative had was superior audio quality through eax. losing that is a big mistake in my opinion. the audio quality is probably?still better, but not by as much anymore.

I currently have a 28 MB MuVo but am looking to upgrade to to a newer model. Before I buy a new model I need to know the answer to the following question.
Question: Do ALL of the Creative MP3 players have the bookmark feature including the Zen models?
If all of them do not have this feature, which Creative models do or do not have bookmarking capabilities?

What is Bookmarking?
Imaging you are listening to a 5 hr audiobook file and you decide to stop and turn off your device at 2:34:22 into the file. Later you desire to listen to the file where you left off, only you discover that you are the beginning of the file and must fast forward to the point where you left off.
Bookmarking allows the MP3 device to continue where you left off listening when either switching tracks or turning off the device.
WARNING:
I have discovered two types of bookmarking that I call
.) firmware bookmarking - MP3 players that will bookmark ALL file types
2.) software bookmarking - MP3 players that will bookmark SPECIFIC file types ONLY. Some audio providers like Audible.com appear to get around the MP3 firmware limitations by downloading drivers and software to interface with their specific audiofiles.
For example:
Creative 28 MuVo has firmware bookmarking capabilities and works on ALL my audiofilesSanDisk
Sanza e40 software bookmarks audiobook files from Audible.com.
HP IPAQ software bookmarks audibooks from Audible.com.

Using other MP3 players with ITunes

Can anyone give me some guidance? My little girl wants an ipod after having great fun listening to my ipod shuffle. All my music is now stored on iTunes so the question is; does itunes support any other MP3 players or will it only support ipods - I was going to buy her a cheap £15 player.
Any help would be gratefully recieved.

To elaborate slightly on what polydorus said, cheap mp3 players play mp3 format files only, full stop. The one I have used (in the same price range you are talking about) connects to the PC via USB, and opens in Windows as a folder. You can then copy/paste files into it, or delete files that are already in it. It truly does not care if iTunes is present or not.
To your comment that "All my music is now stored on iTunes": not really. Your music is stored on your hard drive, and iTunes only contains a library that points to it. There is no reason you can't use the same song files for some non-iTunes purpose, and that is what you will be doing with your daughter's player.
Sooner or later however, she will want an iPod.

Better Integration with Audition for Audio Files

Although Bridge is supplied and installed with Audition 2 the implementation is flawed and doesn't reflect what could be done with audio meta data. Audition allows one to view and edit meta data in File Properties but these fields aren't fully reflected in Bridge. Also audio fields accessible in Bridge don't appear in the Wave properties in Audition. Sort it out please Adobe. It could be very useful for users like myself working in audio archives.

AIM Triton - Not compatable with iChat for Audio/Video

As Triton got to it's current version as a Beta and then without any apparent changes become the item on the AIM latest page link http://www.aim.com/getaim/win/latestwin.adp I would presume it is not a fully functional item yet.
Particularly as AIM 5.9 is still available here http://www.aim.com/getaim/win/otherwin.adp?aolp=
As it is market driven hopefully it will catch up with AIM 5.9 on the connectivity front and lose or at least gain the ability to block unwanted ads.
I think we have a while to go with this one before suggesting people swap to Triton.

Timeline with bookmarks with video

Novice here.
I'm doing a project that will require video playback - my idea is to have a timeline with "bookmarks" for lack of a better word. The (short) video will play and will lead into the next video playing. If the user doesn't want to watch the first couple of videos they can click ahead on the timeline to watch the part of the video they want. I as hoping to have a progress bar attached to this timeline, that will play along with the video duration and lead into the next video. Am I getting myself into an Actionscript mess? I have very little actionscript experience. A point in the right direction or a different idea would be much appreciated.

The FLVPlayback component is a good start when dealing with video. The simplest setup would be to use an Array to hold the links to the video files. Have a variable (uint) to hold the current index of the video being played: starting at 0 and up to the (length - 1) of the array. Buttons to go to the next & previous video, etc...

Just went to the product support site. Guess what? The latest MediaSource plugins for the various Creative MP3 Players are now available for download. I am sure the latest plugins should have fixed several problems.
Don't forget to download the latest Creative MediaSource v3.30.2 too. Install the latest Creative MediaSource first before you install the MediaSource Plugins of your respecti've MP3 Players.
Note: According to the download site, the latest MediaSource plugins require you to have at least v3.20.57 of Creative MediaSource.

I reinstalled I-Tunes several weeks ago. Since then I can no longer burn MP3 Discs with Title and Artist Info. Sometimes it only burns every 3rd song. No Audio CD it seems to function OK. The version has the "cloud" but I don't know if that matters or

I reinstalled I-Tunes several weeks ago. I can no longer burn MP3 Disk with Song/Artist info onto disc. It comes up as No Artist/No Title on car CD unit. Old MP3 Disk previously recorded still show all info. Sometimes only every 3rd song is on the MP3 CD. On Audio Disc there is no change and all info still shows up. The new I-Tunes version has the "cloud" on it if that could make a difference. In the select Burn CD mode I can select testing and add song info for Audio Disk but it shows shadowed out for MP3/Data. I added and removed ID tagging from my list to see if that made a difference but it didn't.
Any Thoughts?

This may help. Audio files are actaully in the DATA folder. These can be editted with Soundbooth then they must be imported intot the specific slide in the Powerpoint presentation. Publish the presentation (as you'll read below) and *should* work This reply came from robva65 [email protected]
Let's try this: *Publish* the PPT deck you have. What you'll end up with is a set of files and folders, but I want you to look for the *data folder* that's created as a result of the publishing process. (Unless you specify where you're publishing to, Presenter will publish to a directory called "My Adobe Presentations" by default, so you may have to look there on your harddrive) Inside the data folder will be a list of mp3 files, which, if everything goes smoothly, should make it much, much easier to see which audio is used by a specific slide.
Here's what I mean: for example, after publishing, I have a data folder and inside I found the following file: a24x9x3.mp3 As I double click the mp3 file (which causes it to play using Windows Media on my laptop), I can hear that it corresponds to my slide 9 in my PPT deck. And there's corresponding mp3 files for each and every slide I have in my deck. I'm clicking another file (wouldn't it be nice to see what I'm doing???) a24x20x3.mp3, and that file corresponds to my slide 20 content in PowerPoint.
So again, give publishing in PowerPoint a shot and see if that makes it any easier. Well...not nearly as easy as recording in Audition/Soundbooth/Audacity, but it's close enough to hopefully dig you out of that hole you're in now.

ok now since iv read over 00'S of forums regarding firmware and sound probs im thinkg that maybe creative isnt made for mp3 players!!! THERE CS SUCKS BAD! THERE FIRMWARE IS VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY POOR!! Content acquired with an Apple ID is permanently tied to that ID.
There is no reason to create a new Apple ID, frankly that will just create more issues.
It is possible to load content from multiple Apple ID's onto a single device. If the content is in the computer that the device syncs with, simply select the content and sync it.

Bookmarks for mp3/aac Audiobooks/Spoken word

I listen to a lot of books. Audible.com's downloaded books get bookmarks, remembering where you were when you come back to them after listening to something else. These bookmarks are transferred to the Mac on a sync operation. If you rip you own books purchased on a CD, the mp3 or AAC files do not have bookmarks. Any workaround available to be able to get bookmarks for these files?

in itunes, in "get info" for the audio files in question, tick "Remember Position" (or something along those lines) it'll be under the 'options' tab if you only select one track at a time.
This is from memory, so if it's not quite correct, it should lead you in the right direction

SHARING SONGS WITH OTHER MP3 PLAYERS

Does anyone know if there is a way to share songs with other MP3 players, such as the Dell DJ?
That is wat I used to have before i got my iPod and i would like to get the 2500 songs off of that and onto my new iPod.

Does the Dell come with any software to move songs to a PC? If you can do that, you can add any MP3s from it into the iTunes Library. Google for software for the Dell or try the Dell forums to see if anyone there has an answer.
