MP3 shows up in artist order

I had to reinstall my operating system and now find a few quirks here and there. Yesterday I burned an mp3 disk. When I inserted it later, it showed all the tracks in order by artist, not in the sequence of the playlist. At first I thought maybe I had accidentally sorted the list that way prior to the burn, so I did it again, but got the same result. Prior to inserting the newly finished disk, I went to another playlist, and had it sorted by the order of songs. But, when I insert the mp3 disk, it still shows the playlist sorted by artist. I know that I can click to resort it in the order I want it to be, but what can I do to prevent this?

Yes, the cd shows up in the proper order if I put it into my other computer, which is a PC. That is not my issue. On the Mac it automatically defaults to showing it in artist order. I understand how iTunes works and how I can order the playlist anyway I want by clicking on the column headings, but this never happened before. Prior to this reinstall of my operating system, if I made an mp3 cd and reinserted the cd, it would show up in track order sequence. Now, iTunes has a mind of its own, and even if I have the track number order selected at the time I reload the disk, it switches automatically to sort it by artist name. Again, I know this is easy to workaround by clicking on the track number column heading, but I should not have to do this. It ought to show up in iTunes in track number sequence the way it always has.

  • Several artists are not showing in the artist list on the Ipod.

Ok. As the title implies on my Ipod there are several artists that are not showing in the artist list. However, in Itunes an artist is clearly defined. I even changed the artist name and still had no outcome. The album is there....but I have to sort through the artist list in order to listen to the music. Can someone help me figure this one out?

The "missing" artists probably have their albums tagged as "Part of a Compilation" and you have the Compilation setting turned ON on your iPod. Either turn Compilations off (go to +Settings/Main Menu+ and +Settings/Music Menu+ and disable Compilation on both menus), or edit the tags to remove the Compilation option. Compilations are intended to be used for multi-artist albums, but often you'll get an album from a single artist tagged as a Compilation since the Gracenote database has an error in it.

  • Problems with Match, ID tags and artist ordering

It seems like iTunes Match only syncs *some* of the track properties I edit, for tracks I've already synced/uploaded. For example, if I edit a track's name, it shows correctly on my iPhone (and IIRC it doesn't even need to update Match). But if, for example, I change the artist name's capitalization, it doesn't reflect on my iPhone even after updating Match.  The same goes for track ordering (if I change the ordering artist, it never gets synced with my iPhone), album illustration and probably others.
What can I do to make sure my iTunes library on my Mac is *exactly* the same as the one on my iPhone?

    Nope, these aren't downloaded tracks.
This is the view on my Mac: http://cl.ly/image/2B3W382s2Y3c (notice the lowercase "of" in "Crash of Rhinos")
And this is on my iPhone: http://cl.ly/image/2l2Y2f260l35 - with the uppercase "Of", from the previous version of the tags
Also, since I have a non-English version of iTunes, I've manually set many artists/songs with a "The" to be ordered ignoring it (ex. putting "Beatles" in the artist ordering field instead of "The Beatles"), and on my iPhone only some of the artists are under the correct letter.
I'm pretty sure Match is just ignoring these types of changes...

  • Certain bands dont show up under 'Artists'

On my ipod, most of the bands i listen to are accessible through 'artists', but some aren't. I have to go to songs and do it that way. For example, in order to listen to Foo Fighters or Rise Against, I have to manually choose the songs throughout all 700 of my songs, instead of quickly going to their name and albums. I know for a fact that it is not because of the 'part of a compilation' thing because I checked. The reason it happened was because I figured I'd delete all their music and just download full albums instead. But after I deleted every song to start fresh, their names never showed up under artists again. Does anyone know how I can fix it, or if I even can?

How did you check the compilation album thing, because it's possible to see a false condition about this?
If you check one individual song, you highlight the song and select (right-click/Get Info/Info>Part of a compilation. Clearly, there will - or will not - be a tick in the box. (Tick obviously means that it is "part of a compilation".)
However - if you highlight several songs (i.e the complete album) and select (right-click)/Get Info/Options>Part of a compilation you see a drop-down menu. If just one song on an album is set to "No", and the rest are set to "Yes", this drop-down box will show No. So, if you use this method, change the setting to Yes and then  back to No to make sure all the songs are set to No.
    What did you find?

  • De-cluttering tip: Is there a way to prevent a track from showing up under "Artist" while still being able to view the artist info when I play the song by Album?

    I asked this question here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15312099#15312099
It was suggested I re-post in this forum, seeing as the problem may be specific to the Touch.
So, I have lots of "compilation" albums that include songs by various artists (for example, Pitchfork's top 500 singles of the decade). I usually select my music by "Artist," and now my ipod is super cluttered, because now I have hundreds and hundreds of artists listed, many of which I only have one or two songs by from this compilation.
One solution: simply delete the artist information for these large compilations, and then the songs from the compilations will no longer show up under "Artists." Problem is, I would like to know who the artists are when I play the compilation (I simply don't want to have the artists listed under "Artists")
Another solution: I could manually delete the artist info, but paste that info on to the song name. For example, a track that once looked like:
    Artist: Nirvana
    Title: Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
After my editing, would look like:
    Artist: [blank]
Title: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Album: Best of the '90s
This would solve my problem...but it would literally take hours to do for each and every individual song. Not practical.
Does any one have any other suggestions? It seems like there would be a way to just check a box for what info you want to be listed (ie, I could un-check "Artist," and then the song would no longer be listed by Artist, even though the Artist information would still be retained for reference). Does this option exist?
In the prior thread, someone suggested I mark it as a "compilation" in iTunes. But that did not prevent the individual artists from being listed under "Artists." Someone suggested that I may need to turn "Compilation" to "On" on my iPod. But that does not seem to be an option on the Touch.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Why not set the iPod to show Compilations?
In Settings select Main menu (or Music menu) and check Compilations. (You can do so for both if you desire.)
Now all of the Artists that only appear in compilation albums won't appear in Artists.
To get to the Artists that only appear in compilation albums open Compilations in your Main Menu or Music Menu (or either).

  • When creating a book how can I get all the photos from an album to show up in the order they were in the album?

When creating a book in iphoto, how can I get all the photos from the album I want to use to show up in the order that they are in the album?  When I tried to use the option to add my own photos instead of having the program "flow" them, they showed up all mixed up.

iPhoto puts them in the book in chronological order.  So to get your photos from an album into an iPhoto book in the same order you will need to use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option and set them all to the same date with a 1 minute time difference between each.

  • ITunes showing albums out of order iOS 7 - iTunes showing nothing not on iPad but have to download by each album

I really didn't think they could screw up iTunes more but it seems they have. It seems that iTunes is the one branch of the Apple tree that has been left to run ragged and alienate customers at will. Design, Marketing, Support and Stores still seem to be the same Apple and functioning in a way to grow as well as retain customer base. iTunes - not so much.
All albums showing out of track order on iPad now - this is a real treat for live concert albums especially. I will note that this is the case for both albums purchased from iTunes as well as copies of CDs I had already purchased and ripped but fixed their titles to sync with iTunes versions (that's another bone to pick that there should be a simple way to tell iTunes yes this is that album - so the in the store function works and album art is simply facilitated - they loose sales daily from the inability to hit in the store for CDs that you ripped from your purchased copies but that impulsive purchase that iTunes makes millions from is lost because most people do not spend the sometimes hours to link them back in)
    How do I fix this?
iTunes Store shows no purchases not on the iPad but I have to download album by album because they aren't there.
    How do I fix this?
    iTunes regularly forgetting album art?
    How do I fix this?
I get the aesthetic that they were going with for iOS 7, and in most cases I think it works. iTunes is a mess. While yes I did like the visual album flip that has now been removed completely (but used in other ways or at least the style is now your safari pages on mobile) but the white is way too much most especially in the case of "currently playing" changing that mode from a great visual leaving the iPad playing playlists to an incredibly nasty stark light fixture. I do understand the design decision to make album covers appear smaller so that their retina screens are looking their best but I am hoping there is a way to chance the background in this mode. If not it has become completely useless to me and I am sure many others.
How do I fix this? Can I fix this?

I ended up fixing my issue. The problem was the fact that some of the songs in an album were marked as part of a compilation, but some were not. iTunes seems to be less strict about grouping things in albums, so I never really noticed it.
However, this, combined with the fact that I could not update the metadata after the song is added to iCloud resulted in me changing the metadata on the computer, only to have it reset when I updated Match. I solved the problem by deleted everything from iCloud and rematching it, but only after I had corrected the compilation issue.
So, if you are havng the same issue, delete and readd everything to iCloud. I deleted everything from a second PC (that had no locally stored files) and then rematched from my laptop (where iTunes asked whether I wanted to add to iCloud, keep the song, or delete it. Choose "Add to iCloud" to rematch).

  • How can I get my thunderbird address book to show up in alphabetical order by surname?

When entering my email addresses in the address book they do not show up in alphabetical order by surname. What do I do to get it to do so?

I have this same problem, but my Address Book doesn't stay sorted. I have to sort it on "Email" address first, then sort it on "Email". Then, and only then, can I find an email address. I have to do this EVERY time I send an email. After I return to Thunderbird, the email addresses are jumbled again.

  • How do I show plays in Artist View in iTunes 11?

I'm looking for a way to show plays in Artist View in iTunes 11. A dialog box pops up when going to View > View Options,  but nothing about changing what information can be diplayed.
    Anyone know anything about this?
    Thanks!

I do not believe you can. If you want to see plays you need to use The songs View. If you turn on the column browser you can select by Album and in the grid below you should see count. If not then View > View Options and select Plays from the Stats section.

  • How Can I Get My Cover Flow To Be In "Artist Order" Vs. "Its Own Order"

I Dont Even Know If Their Is A Method To Its Madness! It Seems Like It Starts In Artist Order & Then Switches To Album Order! IDK!!!! Yes - it does! As Meg says, the coverflow order cannot be changed (or at least, I haven't found a way) and on my Classic the albums by one artist are first and in *artist alphabetical order,* followed (at the end of the artist list) by *various artists (or compilation) albums* which are in *album title order.*
I Dont Like Looking At 10 Different Picz of The Same Album.
Almost certainly, the reason you see several pictures of the same album is because the information in the tracks is confusing the iPod. See turingtest2's links, because they should help you sort out what is wrong.
    Phil
P.S. you may feel that Meg was out of order with her comments about your typing, but she is right - it is difficult to read your post and if you want help, you need to make it easy for the people reading it. It's not simply some "convention" within this forum, it's standard internet protocol. Still, you live in the free world, it's your choice.

  • Photo events not showing up in alphabetical order

Hi there all, why aren't my photo events showing up in chronological order? It appears like it starts with events from 2007, then works backwards from there as I scroll down. Then, after it gets through my earliest pics, it gets to my latest stuff. Very odd.
In iPhoto, they're in chronological order most recent to oldest.
    thanks,
    dp

Talked to Apple support- we figured it out. In case anyone has the same problem: one of my events in the iMovie events folder was corrupted, once I deleted that file, all was well.

  • IOS8 Photos not showing photos in chronological order

Photos App not showing photos in chronological order!!
what gives apple?!  I take a picture, go to Photos and since theres no more camera roll, I'm forced to go into Photos Tab, and when I select "Collections", I see the tiny thumbs of all my pictures sorted which look fine in chronological order, But when select to go down to the next level of viewing (Moments), the dates are all over the place!  When I scroll all the way down, I should technically be at the most recent of my pictures taken. Its not, it shows Aug26. Then one above that Aug 21 Then next few are in Aug; mind you we are in September. Then theres Jun 25. THEN finally some recent photos of Sept 26 and 15!!! THEN the next one is MAY 31.
So trying to find my most recent photos taken is painstakingly tough.

Check this thread out. I have mobileme, but this solution worked, perhaps you could try something similar for your Gmail account...

  • Artist order in itunes

I just installed the new Itunes 7.3. After it successfully installed and Itunes automatically started, i noticed that order of artists is now completely messed up. the list now starts with a-z, then to numbers, where before it went numbers-english characters. I've also noticed that My chinese artists are also in a different order from before. Clicking on the title of the column marked "artist" doesn't change anything. Help would be appreciated.

I just recently noticed the change in Artist Order after installing the latest version, 7.3.1.3. I don't like the change and hope that they will fix it in an upcoming update. I certainly wouldn't call it a feature.
