Mp3 to podcast - one possible solution

I noticed several threads had been archived that did not get a good answer to how to take a audio mp3 podcast (downloaded from a website for example) and get it to appear in the podcast section in itunes.
I tried this applescript (found in the macosxhints website) and it worked well for me.

Check it out!

I just got a 6gb zen and spent hours trobleshooting why it kept disconnecting. It was all due to that modified LibUSB. I use a ps3 controller on my laptop and desktop to play some games. Thank you so much for finding out the cause.

  • Safari hanging up? Here's one possible solution.

This report contains one possible solution to Safari hanging up on certain web pages.
Over the past couple of days, my PowerMac G4 started hanging up when I attempted to load certain pages from CareerBuilder.com.
The bottom of those CareerBuilder.com pages always reported that only xx of yy items (say, 32 of 37 items) were completed, then the spinning ball would appear, indicating that Safari had hung up, requiring me to Force Quit it. Those same CareerBuilder.com pages did not cause Safari on my iMac G5 nor my MacBook Pro to hang up, so I concluded that something had gone awry with Safari on the PowerMac G4 only.
Since other postings related to this topic appear to require a Crash Log to analyze what is going on, I checked for a Crash Log both via Console and by searching for one in the Crash Report folder, but there was none to be found there.
I tried pasting the "Problem Details" report that resulted from my most recent Force Quit, but whenever I tried to Post the Message, I would get a message telling me that "We're sorry, Apple Discussions is temporarily unavailable. We'll be back soon." Other users have reported getting the same message, perhaps because the clipboard contains way too much text. I suppose I could have chopped that long Problem Details report into pieces and passed its information along that way, but I'm not sure that the Problem Details report gives quite the same analytical information as a Crash Report. Besides, from what I could glean, the myriad of well-meaning solutions that were offered seldom, if ever, appeared to cure the problems users were reporting.
Instead, I took a cue from a guy who reported in another thread on Apple Discussions that he cured Safari from hanging by disabling Java and JavaScript in Safari's preferences. That seemed efficient and reasonable, so I implemented his solution.
It seemed to work at first, but a short time after disabling Java and JavaScript, the Mac froze up. I could not access any open applications, nor could I force quit anything. My only choice was to press the power on button for over five seconds to force the computer to shut down. Exhausted from trouble-shooting, we both took a long nap after that. (Recommended trouble-shooting step.)
Upon refresh and restart, I launched Safari. It was now able to access the page in CareerBuilder.com which was causing the hang. However, because JavaScript was now disabled, I could no longer see the rollover button function on my own portfolio website, nor could I see who had visited my website at StatCounter.com, a web analytic service I use to monitor web traffic.
    I wanted those abilities back.
So, with tabs open to both the offending CareerBuilder.com page and to StatCounter.com, I re-enabled JavaScript. When I refreshed the StatCounter.com page, the previously unavailable data updated fine. When I refreshed the Career-Builder.com page, all 96 of 96 items updated fine: most importantly, the page did not cause Safari to stall, as it had consistently been doing before.
I switched back to the StatCounter.com page, I enabled Java, and I refreshed that page. No issues to complain about there. I moved back to the problematic CareerBuilder.com page, and I refreshed that page. Safari re-loaded all 96 items again—this time pausing momentarily to report "1 error"—without hanging up.
I cannot know for sure, but perhaps the Java programming "error" contained on that CareerBuilder.com page was the trigger for causing Safari to hang up. Perhaps there was nothing wrong with my Safari configuration after all. This explanation is plausible, because the only hangs Safari has experienced over the past couple of days have occurred on two different CareerBuilder.com pages.
Thirty minutes later, refreshing that same problematic CareerBuilder.com page resulted in only 80 of 81 items being completed, as a new bunch of advertising messages cluttered up the page. Perhaps that one item which failed to load is related to that "error," which continues to be reported. However, at least the page is no longer stalling Safari.
In any event, these were the steps that "cured" the problem of Safari hanging:
    1) In Safari preferences, disable Java and Java Script.
    2) Shut down the computer.
    3) Take a long nap while the computer is powered OFF.
    4) Restart the computer and relaunch Safari.
    5) Optional: Enable Java Script, then Java, if certain sites require them to be enabled for full functionality.
    6) Optional: Visit pages that had caused Safari to hang, and see if Safari functions fully on those pages.
I have no technical understanding of what may have caused Safari to hang in the first place, or if switching Java and Java Script off and then back on, is the true solution to the problem. Maybe letting the computer take a long, overdue nap did the trick! I had been placing it in Sleep mode for several days, so it's missed a good shut down and re-boot routine.
But I am pragmatic about success, so I am merely reporting what worked for me and what I did. Your mileage may vary.
I will monitor the situation and report any future Safari hangs should they occur, since that might be an indication that the problem was not related to Java or Java Script at all.

  • Fixing slow startup--one possible solution

I had a very frustrating week last week. Logging-in took forever, with several minutes of blue-screen before finally having a live computer. Once started-up there were no problems. This was purely a phenomenon of the startup process. Went through reams of console logs, removed tons of drivers (in the process I got rid of a lot of junk), but no fix. Built up a new hard drive with nothing on it but Snow Leopard. Same problem. I dug through the forums here, finding many similar problems with solutions all over the map, but none of them helped. Then finally...
The solution was simple. I have a number of external USB drives that I use for occasional archiving. They're usually powered-down, and it's rare that more than one is even plugged into the computer. But if that drive is the right drive (actually the WRONG drive), you'll have a problem just like mine.
USB always delivers a bit of power to a connected device--even if that device uses a wall-wart. If circumstances are just right, that little bit of power is enough to partially bring the device to life--enough for the computer to think something is there and enough for the device to misbehave. This was my problem. The solution was simple: for any device with its own power supply just leave the USB cable disconnected until you actually plan to use the device.
Like any debugging situation this is painfully obvious, if only in retrospect. Hope this little story saves somebody else some time.

There are many teething issues with the N96-1 currently. check to see that you have the latest software for your device by going here http://www.nokia.com/softwareupdate and following the instructions.
    The latest version is 11.101
Otherwise rumour has it a radically improved version is on it's way and hopefully this will solve your issue. although in my experience the phone will always work best when messages are on the C: Drive

  • Blurred text - one possible solution

I know a lot of people, myself included, have had trouble importing Keynote slide presentations into iDVD, the main problem being the text blurring.
I might have a bit of a solution.
In Keynote, select the title slide and open the 'Document' tab of the 'Inspector'. Switch the size to something like 800 x 600 [try other sizes and you may get something better]. Then go to the 'Export' function and select the 'Images' tab and export as 'Tiff' format.
Once in iDVD, import all of the Tiff images [one for each slide] to movie insert. When burning to DVD, select 'Professional Quality' in the 'Project Info' box.
I found this works much better. Hope it helps.
    Cheers...>Scotty

    Scotty,
Just remember that DVDs are lower resolution devices (640x480 square pixels NTSC) than computer monitors so make sure you aren't trying to 'cram' too much text information on each slide.

  • YouTube login & linking problems - one possible solution

Rather than add this comment to one of the several topics concerning YouTube login and account linking problems, I'm starting this topic to isolate this particular problem and the solution that worked for me.
    * SKIP TO LAST LINE FOR MY SOLUTION ->
The problem I experienced surfaced when I first tried to upload a video to YouTube from my iPhone 4. YouTube would no longer accept my YouTube password. My YouTube account was linked to my gmail.com account. Having read some of the suggestions in other threads, I unlinked the two accounts, but that did not help matters.
I signed out of the YouTube app in order to sign back in, as suggested elsewhere, but then I could no longer sign in to the YouTube app.
So I tried shutting down my iPhone and starting it up again, as was also suggested elsewhere. That didn't help.
So, exasperated, I went to the YouTube site and tried to change my YouTube account password to itself - and therein lay the solution! YouTube told me the password has to be 5 to 20 characters long and my (old) password was only 4 (because I had created my YouTube account long ago before they had that requirement.)
Once I set a new password that was long enough to satisfy this requirement, I was able to login to the YouTube app just fine and everything is working.
    * The solution -> MAKE SURE YOUR YouTube PASSWORD IS LONGER THAN 4 CHARACTERS

No, it didn't work. After buying my MacBook Pro I updated everything including QT. As a result QT 7.2 simply didn't play any of my divx avi files. Before adopting the rude way, I obviously tried to update/replace all of the components including: Perian, DivX, Flip4mac. No way. I then forced a downgrade to ver. 7.1.6 using Pacifist (a package manager) and as a result I put the hole system in danger. It was in a total state of malfunction. I had to restore the system with the cd. Fortunately it kept my home! But I now run ver 7.1.6 and I do NOT have any intention to update it. I use Pro so I don't have any necessity of full screen support or else. Maybe if Apple will release a stable version I will consider the update. But for now, "nowing it is not installing it".

  • One Possible Solution

For those of you suffering from missing Spotlight, clock, applescript menu, etc... the culprit is quite possibly the "Front Row hack" that has been bouncing around the web lately. Replace the following files with backups of old ones:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/
    /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/
    And remove this:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app
Finally, reboot. This has fixed problems on more than one machine I administer.

  • Dv5 / dv6 / dv7 webcam not detected - one (possible) solution

There are SO many posts on webcams - here is something for those of you who no longer have warranties and need help.
    Background:
I just purchased a new dv7 - no webcam detected!  I tried everything I could think of and ended up sending the system in for service last week.  Tech hinted that the connection may be loose (not the end at the mother board, the other end, next to the camera).  Sad, that.  I am still pawing through the posts looking to see if I'd missed anything that I could have tried.
Found this post all the way back from February 2011 from NotBuggy - Read on: this solution might work for you:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Windows-7-64-bit-Webcam-Drivers-for-dv5t-1000/td-p/46...
NotBuggy's first post descibes the initial issue.  At the bottom of that post is the "Solution" link.  For those interested, there may be helpful hints from other members in the answers NotBuggy received.
As NotBuggy says, this is not for the "faint of heart" - you will need to take apart your system and risk damage.  Proceed only if other avenues are closed.
    Good Luck!
    Kind Regards,

webcam not detected  I have reinstalled the driver for the webcam but the issue persists with an error saying "No Webcam Detected". I have been to the device manager and the webcam is not listed there .I would like to know
how to get this fixed please. Thank you very much.

  • ITunes 11 convert mp3 to podcast

Not bashing (yet!)  I have learned to give software changes a few days to win me over.
However, I have not been able to convert mp3 to podcast since the update.  I like to listen at double speed and I do seem to be able to convert to audiobook so that could be a workaround.  I'd rather use podcast.
I've tried converting multiple files at the same time and one at a time using "Get Info"
    Any ideas?

And it appears we have a winner!

Sorry – I didn't mean to suggest that my solution was a good solution, just that it might be a temporary fix for some of you until Apple fixes the bug (if indeed they consider it a bug).
skirsman: I'm not sure why you say ID3 Editor needs to be compiled. Go tohttp://www.pa-software.com/downloads.php and look for the download options under ID3 Editor. However, you're right about it being trial software. For me this wasn't a problem, because I'm not looking for a long-term solution, and I was able to change the metadata for 140 MP3s. If you're interested in this approach, it'd be worth searching for other apps that do this – ID3 Editor was simply the first thing I found, and its trial period was sufficient for my needs. I believe it's also possible to write AppleScripts or Python code (or whatever) to do this automatically, and I might attempt something like that if this problem sticks around.
7smcb: Sorry I didn't give more detailed instructions. Here are instructions for the Mac version (Windows version is probably similar):
    Run ID3 Editor.
It will ask you to open a file. Choose the MP3 you want to modify.
Go to the Podcast tab (see screenshot).
Enable the "podcast tag" by checking the box (see screenshot).
Give an identifier, feed location (optional), and description (optional). See info further below.
    Click Update.
    Import the file into iTunes.
As far as I can tell, you don't need to give both an identifier and a feed (just one is sufficient), but I gave both. I also added a description as well, but this seems to be optional. If you leave all the fields blank iTunes will not accept the file as a podcast.
If you want to do this with a whole bunch of files at once, go to File > Open Group in ID3 Editor, which allows you to modify the metadata for many files at once.
As far as I know, the identifier should be set to something unique for each file, so that iTunes can treat it as a separate episode or whatever. I didn't experiment with giving loads of files the same identifier – not sure what iTunes will do in this case.
The location should point to the RSS feed where new episodes can be downloaded. For many of you, you won't need to bother setting this.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks to you JohnWilliamCarr for a simple, if not cumbersome, solution.
This worked for my files and I was even able to do groups of files (separate file for each hour of the show)

  • Converting mp3 to podcast iTunes 11.1.2.31, iPhone 7.0.3

I would like to convert mp3's to podcasts. In the past if I dragged the mp3 into music, then right clicked the file>options and changed media kind to podcast it would move that file into podcasts and when I synced it would move the file onto my iPhone as a podcast. This procedure no longer works. The new update to 7.0.3 no longer has podcasts in Music so I downloaded the Apple Podcast App. Does anyone have a solution?

I am experiencing the same issue. I regularly change mp3 to podcasts within iTunes (change type to podcast and remember position).
Immediately following my update to 11.1.3 (Mac, Mavericks), the files that are created no longer function on my iPhone. iTunes says that they are transferring, but when I open the podcast app, they are not there. All of my downloaded podcasts work fine, but the converted ones are no longer visible or playable.
When I do a spotlight search on the phone, the files show, but the official podcast app and a few other podcast apps that I downloaded cannot see them. These files worked fine after the latest iOS update. It wasn't until getting iTunes 11.1.3 that this problem surface.

  • Podcast mp3 to podcast section in itunes

i have some podcasts downloaded on disc in mp3 format, is it possible to add these to the podcast section in itunes, and if not, is there a way i can play my songs in music library on shuffle without playing these podcasts?

I have a similar problem, for some reason one specific podcast from a subscribed series I get has moved into the standard library. How would I change it back. Is it something to do with ID3 tags? Please help!

  • Possible solution to book uploading problem

I posted this as a reply to TM2 ... redundancy is sometimes very helpful ...
I ran into the same problem in last couple of weeks ... deadline for books and all.
I too gave up trying with Aperture and used BLUR's BookSmart, thinking that it may be a solution re overcoming problems with uploading (Aperture/Apple not providing useful solutions for me) .... but, ran into same problem - I was not able to upload finished book and got same msg re error and request to check my ISP connection, etc ... finally, I called Comcast re possibly a problem with their router or something like it ... I got very lucky and connected with someone who was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and accessible ... SOLUTION: bi-pass the Belkin 54g ... hook up CPU ethernet connection directly to cable router - BINGO! ... Belkin seems to be the potential cause for problem: It most likely needs firmware update - checked their web site and there is one available .... in time will upload it.
Hope this helps and it is same solution for Aperture trouble's re uploading issues, etc ... Merry Christmas.

Intresting notes... When you download album artwork from iTunes it really doesn't add it to the MP3 track, it stores it elsewhere and assoicates it internally some how to the album. Where as adding a artwork in through the actual file will change the size of your MP3 track, by embedding the artwork into it so that other apps (like windows media) can see them.
That would be an interesting find if that is indeed the case.... Furthermore if that solves the problem, than apple should have an easy fix on thier hands.
However, since most of my music is direct downloads from iTunes and has the artwork directly embedded into the music files like I mentioned above that might be why I've never encountered the issues.... As I found out about this quirk a while back, because some of the tracks on the PC or on my iPod would never show the album cover before...
Hopefully someone else with the same problem can help confirm this possible solution!

  • Possible Solution to Google Search Bar Not Working/Safari Not Loading Pages

    Hello Apple Forums,
I have recently encountered a possible solution to a problem with Safari. The one in which Safari fails to load any page associated with www.google.com. Especially the Google Search Bar—a feature I use frequently.
After browsing through the forums about the Google Search Bar issue, I took my knewly gained knowledge, and decided to do some diagnosing for myself.
This is what I have done so far to try and solve this issue:
Run Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Cron Scripts
    Cleared the following caches:
    System Local Computer Cache
    System VM (Swap) Files
    Curent User Cache
    Current User Icon Cache
    Internet Explorer Download Cache
    Page History
    Web Site Cache
    Temporary Files
    Safari Downloads List
    Form Values
    Page History
    Recent Searches
    Site Icons
    Web Site Cache
    User Cookies (used by Safari)
    Finder Recent Applications
    Recent Documents
    Recent Folders
    Recent Servers
    Recent Files of AppleWorks 6
    Disk Utility Disk Images
    Preview
    QuickTime Player Favorites/Recent
    REALbasic Projects
    TextEdit
    VideoLanClient
and Other caches of Acquisition Current Downloads
    Acquisition Recent Searches
    MSN Conversation History
    Vicomsoft FTP Client Icon Cache
All of the above runnings of Cron scripts and clearings of Caches were done using Mac Pilot version 1.1.5 (yes the one on the site is an updated version, but I have not downloaded it yet). If you decide to use this program to clear caches, I advise not clearing the Installer Receipts under the System section as Installer Receipts are used to correctly repair permissions. I do not clear Find File Indexes either, because I use the Find File feature quite frequently on my computer and I do not want to have it re-index files all the time (perhaps I'll do it every few months or so to refresh what I've got on the harddrive). Remember, all the information given in this paragraph is relative to Mac Pilot version 1.1.5.
In addition, I have also repaired permissions using Disk Utility 10.4.4 (v145.7) (make sure you restart your computer after you repair permissions). I have taken out items in /harddrive/library/StartUpItems as well as taking out items in /harddrive/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in /user/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in user/library/Caches (restart your computer after taking out or putting in items in these locations).
As of now, all the information mentioned above about trying to fix this problem have NOT worked.
What HAS WORKED for me was tinkering with my 3rd party firewall—Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). Under the Protection Settings, I HAD Enable Active FTB support, Enable Stealth mode, Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected), Enable UDP Protection (with Protect outgoing UDP connections, Allow access to essential services, and Protect a range of UDP ports 1 through 1023 selected).
What I CHANGED in Protection Settings was DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Upon deselecting that information the Google Search Bar feature in Safari WORKED practically instantaneously. Before hand, anything I inputted into Safari and after hitting Return on the keyboard just wound up hanging there.
Just to be sure, all tests were performed on:
IMac G4 800 Mhz SD Mac OSX 10.3.9 with ALL the latest Software Updates, Except Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 and iPod Updater 2006-01-10
I have a cable internet connection with ISP Time Warner Cable (RoadRunner) using a SurfBoard SB4100 Cable Modem on an AirPort Extreme Base Station (Apple Base Station V5.6)
Interesting side note: I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1 Ghz Mac OSX 10.3.9 Laptop running on the same network (although it has an airport extreme card as opposed to the regular airport card in the iMac) with ALL the same latest Software Updates, Except iPod Updater 2006-01-10. The Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 does not come up on Software Update on the Laptop and I can not find it on the harddrive using a name search in the Finder Find feature. It does not show up in Applications folder, so I do not know if it is on or active on the Laptop.
The LAPTOP IS ABLE TO USE ALL GOOGLE FEATURES without DESELECTING Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Why this is apparent I have not officially confirmed.
What I do know is that I have tried to Uninstall Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) with the appropriate uninstaller but it FAILS during the uninstall (I wanted to uninstall and reinstall, it appears the program became corrupted). What I did to possibly circumvent this was to search for the phrase 'Personal Fire" using the Finder's Find feature (Search for items whose name contains 'Personal Fire') and deleted all the files that came up related to Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). I then reinstalled Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) since then, and it continues to have the problem with Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected).
    What I have not done:
    Updated Prebinding
    Run TechTool Pro version 4.1.2
    Install Combo OSX 10.3.9
Initialize HardDrive with complete reinstallation of OSX 10.3.9
    To Summarize Possible Solution
I've tried many possible solutions, what appears to work best as of now is to DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (making sure Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic are deselected) under Protection Settings in Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48).
One could try deselecting something similar in any firewall application other than Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48), to see if it is suspicious activity settings in firewalls that cause the problem.
    Any comments/feedbacks are extremely welcome.
    Hope It Helps!

    Hello tr:
Welcome to Apple discussions and thank you for your very very thorough post.
Your instincts to delete anything named "Norton" were right on the mark. Norton software is POISON to Macs running OS X. An additional software firewall is, IMHO, completely unnecessary. Turn on the built-in firewall in OS X - it is robust. In fact, if it is already on, there may be a conflict.
Go to Symantec's web site and use the uninstaller you should find there to get rid of the Norton stuff. After you do that, do a "find" on Norton and Symantec to be sure it is all gone - the stuff hides everywhere.

  • IPod Plays Podcasts one at a time

I just updated my 4G iPod to V3.1 with the current updater & I am using iTunes 4.9.
Currently, I am only able to play one podcast at a time.
It will not go to the next podcast on it's own. Pressing FWD (>) to what should be the next podcast instead takes me back to the main menu. I then have to go through the the menu to get back to play the next podcast.
My iPod was able to go the next podcast both on it's own & by pressing FWD (>) before I updated the iPod but not know.
My iPod does play songs one after the other as it always did.
It looks like this is the way it is as I can not find any settings to get it to play podcast's one after the other.
    Can any one help?
    Rich

    CharlieXX
    Thanks for the guess.
    Shuffle was already off.
Only 1 of several podcasts show up in the Genre "Podcast" despite the fact there are other podcasts with "Podcast" as the Genre as listed in iTunes.
So I am now only able to play podcasts one at a time. After each one, the iPod takes me back to the main menu no matter what I do.
This situation is new, & only started after I updated to V3.1. With the previous version, I was able to play podcasts one after the other.
All my Podcasts do show up in the Podcast play list.
I think we need another solution.

  • Download and convert Youtube video to MP3---Just with one click

Download and convert Youtube video to MP3---Just with one click
Last week, when wandering around the Youtube watch.com, I was enthralled with the theme song of "Lost", especially the words of the song "I found out, on the corner of first and amistad, where the west was all but won all weeklong, smoking his last cigarette, I said: "Where you been?" He said: "ask anything.""......"
I couldn’t help expecting to save this song to my personal players. What a delightful thing listening to the song while walking or waiting for a bus! Okay, do you have the same experience as me? When hearing an exciting speech or dialogue, are you thirsty for downloading them and saving as your best memory?
Download, convert Youtube to mp3?—yes, you can.
Anna, one of my best friends, has posed a question "I have a Mac notebook and I only need the audio (mp3 music) of a certain Youtube movie, what shall I do?" The solution to the problem is shown as below:
