Mp3s in Library will not transfer to iPod

Yesterday I used Real Player plus Audio Hijack pro to download a series of BBC comedy programs (from BBC7). The MP3 files were stored on my desktop. I double clicked each one and iTunes (v 5.01) opened and imported them into the library. I dragged them into existing playlists where they played perfectly on the computer.
I then connected my iPod photo and it went through an automatic update. Two of the newly downloaded files did not appear on the iPod. When I "get Info" about the files that did not transfer, they are located in the folder: iTunes Music: Podcasts: Unknown Podcast: file1.mp3 and similarly for file2.mp3
Each one appears as an MPEG audio file with format MPEG-2 level 3. Several other Real Player downloads from the same source work fine on the iPod. They are also MPEG-2 level 3 but are in folders other than "podcasts: unknown podcasts.
No matter what I do, for example deleting the two files from iTunes library and then dropping them manually on the library or on the playlist, they end up in the same unknown podcast folder.
Is there some specific reason why two of my files would go into this "unknown podcast" folder ? Is this the reason they will not transfer to the iPod? Is there some way of forcing them into the music folder? (No they do not show up under the Podcast playlist).
Am I on the wrong track completely?

Curt;
Thanks for the suggestion. I have checked the two offending files and there seems to be nothing different about them. They were digitized at 64 kb/s - the same as the others made on the same day which transfer to and play on my iPod. I have even selected them in the iTunes library and used Advanced--> convert to MP3. They get resampled and converted to 128 kb/s (and the size of each file doubles) but the result is still the same - they go into the Unknown podcast folder and will not load on my iPod.
The thing that seems to be different about them is that they automatically go into the podcast folder rather than into a music folder.
The iPod is using version 1.2 software and my iTunes is version 5.0.1

  • HT203180 Apple/ITunes, needs to let people know BEFOREhand that HD movies WILL NOT transfer to iPods.  Purchase ONLY SD, NOT HD if you want to transfer them!  What a pain to find this out AFTER purchasing 11 movies in HD!

Itunes movies in HD will NOT transfer to IPODS.  Apple/Ipod need to make customers aware of this little "glitch" before they purchase HD movies, not after purchasing 11 of them and not being able to transfer them.  Watching on the computer is not my first choice!

I am not sure if this will help - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3209.

  • Some photo's will not transfer to iPod

My iPod touch started experiencing strange behavior ever since the 1.1.4 update was installed.
Now whenever I sync it, I receive an error that certain photos will not be synced because they cannot be displayed on the iPod. The funny thing is that there is nothing different with these files. They all came from the same camera and it will even load other images from the same event. As far as I'm aware, these files have not been edited outside of iPhoto.
Here is the error: "Some of your photos, including 'PB25005.jpg' were not copied to the iPod 'Touch' because they cannot be displayed on your iPod."
I like how it states that there is multiple photo's and then gives an example of a photo that cannot be copied. How do I find out what the other photos are? Why can't they be synced?
Anybody know if there is a log file that I can review
    Anyone have any ideas?

I have noticed the same behavior of the IPT syncing photos. And I've noticed it prior to the 1.1.4 update.
Of the 2722 images in 16 folders that I attempt to sync the IPT accepts 2701 and rejects 21. (Less than 1% failure ratio.) I have not been able to discover the rhyme or reason for the rejects and have played with one photo to force (trick) my iPod into accepting it to no avail.
It's a mystery but not a great concern since the IPT is just a fun way to display my portfolio.

  • Games and tv shows will not transfer to ipod

ever since i bought a new computer(which also has windows vista)im having trouble adding tv shows and games to my ipod.i had no trouble with songs but ive tried authorizing computer and manually managing music but no luck. anybody?
toshiba v1.10   Other OS   windows vista

update on this... as I thought the "windows" format might be causing the problems, I restored and reformated to Mac... now when I try to copy my TV show, <show> was not copied to the iPod... because it cannot be played on this iPod...  though it is a video ipod, 5th Gen, which it told me during the restore, I am guessing that it will NOT play HD video...  interestingly boring sort of.  Oh well, guess I will have to plug in my iPhone or iPad to do this, at least I know why now!

  • Please Help! Itunes will not transfer to ipod!

    Hi!!!
The first time my ipod was loaded, someone else did it for me. Now I am doing it myself, and because i am computer illiterate, it will not work. I plug everything into my computer correctly, itunes opens, pulls up my playlist. My ipod symbol shows up on the left side of itunes, (does not flash red) says that I can disconnect it, but nothing has been put on my ipod (all of my previous songs are deleted too... which I know would happen)... what am I doing wrong???
    Thank you all very much

  • New computer - songs will not transfer from IPOD

Ok....I know that this is probably a common issue but I have a new computer running iTunes 7 and Windows Vista. I cannot seem to transfer my existing music files from my IPOD to my iTunes 7.0. I have attempted to drag and drop, use Consolidate Library, etc. I am not automatically syncing music because I do not want to lose my entire library of music on IPOD. Can someone help?

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Vista so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described for instance also it won't transfer playlists. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated that will let you transfer individual tracks then there are a number of third party utilities that will do what you want. You can use these to retrieve individual music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, check for Vista compatibility as they may not all have been updated yet. Some of these are free and some are commercial but generally they are not very expensive. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • MP3s, Video & Pics will not transfer to Touch, Apps will

So I have the older Touch and it's been fine for months, but today all of a sudden it wouldn't add a new playlist I made. So I kept hitting sync and adding and removing playlists and nothing would happen, so finally I restarted the ipod and reconnected it, no change. So I Restored it, no change. It put the apps back on it and all is good on that front, but no music, pictures or video will transfer from my (everything current and updated) Macbook to the iPod Touch.
It WILL let me manually move the music to the iPod if I set it to do so, but that's not what I want. What's the deal? Any ideas?

    Hi,
Connect your Touch, click on the device name and uncheck the box on the summary page.

  • Music purchased will not transfer to ipod

Recently I purchased a new computer that is Window 8 OS.  I downloaded itunes and did a synch on my ipod.  It transferred the contents but they are grayed out and I cannot play them through my computer even though I "authorize" this new computer.  Now when I have purchased music, I can see the songs in my itunes but they are not transferring to my ipod.  What is going on and what do I need to do to get these things corrected?  I would truly appreciate detailed help.

"I read the other thread, and would call that a workaround, not a fix. For folks who didn't see the other thread, here is the workaround:"
Further down in the thread you will see a link to an Apple document describing how to re-create your iTunes library. This link was provided by an Apple moderator. It is the suggested fix and a number of responses indicate that it works to restore iPod syncing of the files in question.
Here is the link provided by the Apple moderator.

And here is another link from the thread describing the same problem and solution.

  • Entire Itunes library will not download to Ipod nano! All is checked and it says it synced but it will only put the few new purchased songs on my ipod.

My son deleted the music from my Ipod.  I pulled up my Itunes on a new computer with windows 8 and pluged in the Ipod and my music reappeared.  However, I then purchased new music and the new music would not download.  I am not sure what I did but now the new music is on my ipod and all the old music is gone.  When I am in my itunes account all the songs are selected and when I hit sync it is still only syncing the newly purchased songs.  How can I get my entire library back on my ipod?

So you also rebooted your router correct?  Does the iPod still connect okay to other networks?

  • ITunes music library will not update on iPod after syncing

I did a computer swipe a number of months ago and was only just recently able to recover my iTunes account.  So fortunately I have all my music still (well most of it.  Some of my file locations are missing but that is user error).
Now, yesterday I synced my iPod for the first time since the clean sweep.  I was annoyed that the process completely cleaned out my iPod (of course it was not backed up because I had no way of syncing it to my account) so I lost everything except the music.
Here's the problem:  while I can play iTunes on my laptop, none of the songs are being properly downloaded onto the iPod.  All the titles and information show up like they should, but they are greyed out so you cannot select them.
I've tried re-syncing several times and even rebooted my laptop and re-syncing to no avail.
My iPod is literally empty like when I first got it brand new but I can't play my music.
Any ideas?  I'm at my last straw.

Is the iPod signed in the iTunes account? (Settings>Store)
Next I would try restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and then sync.
