Mp3s not playing in Safari 6.0

Hi
I've been making some updates to my website today on my Macbook (running an older version of Safari) and everything is working exactly as I'd like. I then came over to my iMac (running Safari 6.0) but it seems the JPlayer didn't work. After some testing it seems the problem is with Safari as it works on both my PC (running IE) and Macbook, the version of Safari being the only change.
I presumed at first it might be an issue with the JPlayer but I discovered even if I just put the mp3 file(s) URL in the address bar it doesn't play there at all.
I see several other people are having this issue but there doesn't seem to be a fix as of yet?

Nobody?

I have a MAC running Maverick. MP3 sounds will not play in Safari or FireFox, but will play if you download the file locally to the Desktop. How to resolve this?

You probably have an internet plugin installed that is preventing the MP3s from playing. I just checked a site with an MP3, and it played, rather than downloaded.
The internet plugin folders are at:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins and
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
(~/Library is hidden by default. Let me know if you don't know how to access it.)
My internet plugins were all in /Library; there were none in ~/Library.
Try moving these folders to the desktop (don't delete them), restarting, and then seeing if the MP3s play.
They it will be trial and error to see which plugin is responsible.

Hi, I uploaded some flv videos to my blog and can see it fine on my G5, my the videos will not play in Safari on my iPhone iOS4. Anyone know how to fix this?

I've also tried m4v and avi files. Is there another file format that will work?

  • Videos (of any kind) will not play in Safari

Okay, this has been bugging me for about two months now! Videos of any format will not play in Safari. Anything flash (Youtube for example) OR anything Quicktime (mpg, avi, mov, mp4) refuses to even show up when I try to view them. I go to a Youtube page and the whole page loads except for where the video should be...it's just not there at all. Same with Quicktime. If I go to say the HD Trailer for a movie, the three different sizes (480 720 1080) buttons do not even show up (because they are mini Quicktime things)!!
What I have tried to solve this with: I have updated Flash, uninstalled/reinstalled Flash, updated Quicktime, have Mac OS X up to date...but nothing works. These files play fine on just plain Quicktime player (ie I downloaded them) or in FIREFOX, but not in Safari.
BTW: I am using Safari 2, not 3. Also, WMVs actually will play sometimes, but not imbedded, only if you click like www.example.com/movie.wmv
Any help? I'm running an Intel Macbook Pro

  • Videos will not play in Safari

I have an iPhone 3GS on the 3.1.2 OS, and cannot get videos to play in Safari. I've tried watching videos on ESPN's mobile site, as well as the TV Ads for the iPhone on Apple's website, and all that shows up is a screen full of code. Any assistance is much appreciated.

The iPhone will only play H264/Quicktime video and you're trying to watch Flash based video which is not supported. But just check the javascript option is ticked in the safari options.
    There is no workaround.
If you search the forum for 'flash' you will see plenty of threads on the subject. Flash will probably never be supported for the reasons therein - plenty to read up.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Video behind http authentication does not play in Safari on iOS8.

Videos (quicktime and probably others) that are sitting behind http authenticated sites do not play properly in IOS8. This is true even with the new 8.0.2. When clicking on the mov file, Safari starts the integrated player (the player with the play button), but nothing plays and you can't press the play button.
Since I have access to the Apache web server that serves up the video, I can see what's happening on the backend. I see that Safari or the iOS video player Safari starts up fails to pass the authentication credentials to the server. I see a bunch of http 401 error messages (failed authentication) in the logs. When moving the same video to a not authenticated site, iOS8 does the right thing.
iOS7 (and before) and Safari on OSX does the right thing on authenticated sites. It authenticates properly with the server and plays the video.
Chrome on iOS8 also doesn't work either. Safari and Chrome use different versions of webkit, so I'm assuming its the video player that the browsers call on that's not passing the authentication off to the web server when making the http request.
Anyone else run into this problem or have a workaround? I reported this as a bug, but Apple hasn't acknowledged it yet.

I also have the same Exact Problem, only your explanition appears more technical and understandable. This problem appears more severe on YouTube.com videos and alike, however it is also severly choppy and problematic on other sites. Surprisingly Live Broadcast videos work better than not Live videos, however this is not something I'd like when my data isn't throttled yet. I crosstested it to see if there is any issues on my iPhone 4S (iOS 6, last version) and Galaxy S4 (Android Kit Kat, last version on S4) and there is no issues on those devices so it is an iOS 8(+0.1/0.2) and iOS 8.1 problem and I am 100% confident about it.
I do think it is the video player's problem with Websites and Webstreaming. There is no problems playing music videos on my device's storage. I didn't get that many error messages but it just doesn't play properly on Safari and Chrome, like what you are experiencing too. I may go ahead and report it too because it is gotten to a point where it is annoying to watch videos. It is not just an over 4G (+ or - LTE) only issue, it is also via Wifi even so it is a tad better. I can't tolerate playing a video 15 seconds in, have to wait 15 more seconds for it to play, it plays to 0:35 then I have to wait 15 more seconds. Even a 240p video, it does it so, it is clearly not a tolerable bug. I don't have a work around so far (tried everything from reset to wipe the phone and reinstall all the apps).
My Device is an iPhone 6+ with iOS 8.1 (yes, it is not just exclusive to the iPhone 5S. I assume it also effects the iPhone 6 based on technical specifications).

  • Video does not play in safari with QT7.3 update

just as last time quicktime was updated, this version does the same thing. after updating to QT7.3 videos no longer play in safari. i went to the apple trailers site, i get the sound but no video. last time the solution i found was to remove the quicktime plugin from the plugin folder in the library folder. i did that same thing this time, and it still does not work.
any help on this one? using a powerbook g-3 pismo, with os 10.4
    thanks

Hi tfu47 and welcome to the forums!
No such problems here - which I know doesn't help you!
Did you close all applications before installing the update? Did you restart as instructed? Did you repair permissions?
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • IMoives from Web Gallery do NOT play in Safari under the Lion

Does anyone else have this problem? Using Lion and the latest iMovie when I post movies to my Web Gallery the iMovies will NOT play. They play fine in Firefox and the still photos work fine in Safari but no joy with iMovie
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much

I have read other discussions about this, and it is clear Apple has nothing to offer. It seems we must find the solution and give it to them.
For me, I happened to have the HD I had replaced because it was "BAD" from before the latest Snow. I had picked up a case to put it in from Fry's and it worked perfectly! I rebooted from it, opened iMove and created all the movies on an external HD. I will FTP them to a folder on my site, and them link to them via iWeb, temporarily. I'll post the outcome when I have a chance to get it done. I do plan on abandoning Lion, and returning to Snow until all these silly oversights are resolved.
I wish I was getting paid to discover solutions for Apple, but I am not enthusiastic about anything Apple anymore. I found 150 discussions about the problems with Lion, so we are not alone. Apple has bigger problems than mine, so I will retreat to what worked, test my time machine back up, and learn Dreamweaver.

  • Flash audio player not playing in safari (it shows but does not play).

Basically i own an internet radio station and for some reason the web player (flash player) no longer plays in Safari since i upgraded to OS X Lion, was working before but not now, it does show the player it just does not play any audio, however it does work in Google Chrome.. any ideas why its no longer working since installing Lion??

The error is "Internet Explorer has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Then when I click on the Windows solutions icon, it says:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped working properly.
To troubleshoot this problem, follow these steps:
Click to go online and run the Flash Player  uninstaller
In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and then follow the  instructions to uninstall flash player. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the  password or provide confirmation.
Click to go online and install the Flash Player update
I've done both these things for 2-3 days now.  Nothing works.

  • Videos will not play in safari either quicktime question mark of nothing

    Hi everyone,
Initially I had an issue with Quicktime videos in Safari. - They would not play, all I got was a question mark infront of the video. Looking on these forums, appartently unchecking the misc. settings in MIME in QT preferences helps. Anoyingly I cannot actually uncheck those preferences, the mac won't let me. also, after reinstalling the flash update, and restarting etc, now all I get when I go to apple.com/trailers and try to play a video is the QT playback bar, but nothing else. It just stays there and does nothing. I am on broadband so speed is not an issue. how can I fix my issue? Thanks, Adam.

Hello to everyone! Sorry if I seem to be straying off topic. There are several related threads in this forum, the Safari 3 beta forum and also the Quicktime forum.
I have this problem as well - on my PowerBook G4, but not on my PowerMac G5... Specifically, in Safari on the Apple Special Event August 2007 page where we look for Steve to intro the new iMac, I see no button to push to display the stream. Just after the last word in the paragraph that the Play button should be under, there is a small active area that will bring up the stream on its web page (an invisible button), but when that happens, there is only the audio content. I have not tried the movie trailers, but these problems sound identical. So, this looks like several related symptoms - may be several problems or only one.
    Everything works normally in FireFox.
Moving the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin file to the desktop fixes this problem in Safari, but induces several other problems.
I have MacOSX 10.4.10 up to date, Quicktime 7.2.0, Safari 2.0.4 (419.3). DIVX web player 1.3.1 (p/o 6.6 package), Flash 9.0.47, etc... I have upgraded from many, many versions of Mac-OSX to the present.
I recently installed i-Life '08 on both computers.
I repaired permissions and sucecssfully verified my disk - no impact regarding this problem.
I reinstalled Quicktime - no resolution.
I am a knowledgable user - not expert, but quite knowledgable - I suspect that there is an internet plug-in conflict. Someone elsewhere in the discussion forum (Quicktime area, I think) also ventured that guess.
Here are my internet plug-ins for the problem PowerBook G4:
    QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
    Quartz Composer.webplugin
    JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
    Java Applet.plugin
    RealPlayer Plugin.plugin
    npUpload.xpt
    iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
    VerifiedDownloadPlugin.plugin
    npdivx.xpt
    Windows Media Plugin
    Disabled Plug-Ins
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    flashplayer.xpt
    Flash Player.plugin
    QuickTime Plugin.plugin
    Java Applet Plugin Enabler
    ContentUploaderPlugin.plugin
    nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
    DivXBrowserPlugin.plugin
    NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave
    DRM Plugin.bundle
Don't know why the order is like it is - I displayed my directory, selected all and copied and pasted to get this list - sorting by date or name didn't alter the order of this list (hmmm - something to ponder on a dull day!).
I will post the plug-in list for my desktop that works correctly on Tuesday when I am back at the office.
That is all I know on this issue. Hope someone sees something useful here to help get to the bottom of this.
    Brian

  • Videos and Music will not play using Safari or Chrome

I have tried every trouble shooting option I can find on the internet. Nothing is working. Adobe is fully updated. Safari is fully updated. Chrome is fully updated. Videos will not play on websties such as CNN, CBC. Music will not play on websites such as Sound Cloud.
    YouTube and Netflix work fine.

    MacAFP wrote:

You're dealing with two different plug-ins.
    Flash Player (Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/Flash Player.plugin)
    and "PepperFlash" (Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/Versions/34.0.1847.116/Google Chrome Framework.framework/Internet Plug-Ins/PepperFlash/PepperFlashPlayer.plugin)
And NetFlix uses the Microsoft SilverLight plug-in.
    From SoundCloud support:
Why can't I hear tracks using Safari?
If you can't hear tracks on SoundCloud using Safari, please go to Safari ---> Preferences ---> Advanced ---> and un-check "Stop plugins to save power." Like this:
If YouTube works, it may be doing so in HTML5 mode which requires no plug-in. Do you use Apple's Firewall or (please say you don't) anti-virus?

  • QT not playing in Safari

Prior to upgrading to QT 7.3 movie trailers played in Safari when I opened them. Now since upgrading to QT 7.3 when I open them the QT player opens.
I have a backup HD with the previous version of QT and that still plays the trailers in Safari. I've checked and all the Mime settings are identical on both Preference Panes for QT.
Any idea how I can get these to open and play in Safari?
    Thanks,

Problem solved was a changed Flip4Mac setting.

  • Mp3s not playing in Firefox, but will in Safari

This likely is not a GoLive issue, still I'm stumped, and an afternoon of searching online hasn't solved my problem. I'm hoping some wise people here can steer me in the right direction.
I have a couple of sites (designed with GoLive) that are no longer playing MP3 links in Firefox. You can save/download them, but if you click to hear them, only a few seconds play.
If you click on them in Safari tho, they play fine.
    files on - http://www.therubble.com/mp3.html - for instance.
These pages have acted fine for years, now they aren't.
    Any thoughts?

They are set up in a image map with basically < href="mp3/song1.mp3" > linking to the files.
I should test to see if the image map itself is mucking things, I guess. However the same aborted play happens if you type the link directly in the browser.
What's weird is that the pages (as is) have worked fine for years. Why they aren't working on the current server, I'm not sure. Other pages I've made with files hosted on a different server are working just fine.
The host company, I think, changed their server and some setting a long the way is not copacetic with Firefox (on Mac - haven't test PC + Firefox).
I was thinking it might be a Firefox 3 issue, but it happens with Firefox 2 as well (and again, previously it worked fine).
It was suggested that I should add a type tag to all links <  href="/mp3/song1.mp3" type="audio/x-mp3" / > and double check the MIME types settings. I'll see if that works, too.
Still, I think at this point I would rather move the sites to a different host than hand re-code a bunch of work all over again.

  • UniVision videos will not play in Safari (iMac)

The videos play on my iPad2 but not on my iMac.
I tried the usual - disabled all extensions, allowed cookies, enabled javascript-  to no avail. I keep getting the endless rotating 'gear'. Flash videos work perfectly everywhere except on the UniVision site.
The site itself says to sign in with the TV provider (in my case DishTV) with no suggestions on how to do that. Although the site is very clear that I do not have to register with UniVision to watch videos, I registered anyway through Facebook and logged in but still no videos. It seems that signing in with the provider is different than registering.
Of course, I called DishTV and there is no way to sign in through DishTV.
I get UniVision as part of my package with DishTV.
I am on 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. All up to date with everything inluding the latest Flash. I do not have or want another browser other than Safari.
    Thanks!
Note: This is a repost to now the correct site - sorry

    Update:
I spoke to a senior Apple tech and we tried everything - still no video playing. At his request, I downloaded Chrome and the videos work perfectly.
So far, the videos play on Apple tech's iMac, my iPad2, with Chrome on my iMac, and my old MacBook with 10.7.5.
This narrows the problem to Safari. Unfortunately, Apple's computers are still on 10.8.4 so we do not know if the problem is with the 10.8.5 update or with my computer. (My 10.8.5 update was a Combo update)
As soon as Apple upates their own computers to 10.8.5, the tech will call me.
