MP3s on Network Storage appear as MPEG Audio Stream

I store all music on my network attached storage device and map it to my iMac via the AFP protocol. After upgrading to iTunes 10.5.1, all of these Mp3 files now appear as a type 'MPEG Audio Stream' to iTunes and can no longer sync with my iPod or be matched via iTunes Match.

Hi Jens,
I will suggest you to call the support center, cause there are some bugs related to the issue you are having.

  • Trying to put an mpeg audio streaming 'podcast' on my iPod

Hi-I have a 5 part interview that is in iTunes that I want on my iPod to listen to in my car. It says it's an mpeg audio stream format. I have done all that I can think of to get it to my iPod but it just won't sync. If I Get Info on it, I selected the Media Kind as podcast, it's in my podcast list under Library; it's in my smart playlist (called News Shows) but it won't sync over to the News Shows on my iPod! In editing my smart playlist, I put in the artist name and album name (it is the info I entered in). No go. I don't know what I am doing wrong but I have wasted far too much time trying to get it sync over. There must be a way. Surely. Hopefully someone out there will have an answer for me! Thanks, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all, Judy

If it's a stream, you can't sync it to your iPod as it's not physically on your computer. You'd need to actually download it. It sounds as if what you have in your library is a link to the stream.
Where did it come from? Can you check the site to see if they offer an .mp3 or .aac download?

  • MPEG Audio stream files @ HTTP?

Recently I have started and I am enjoying using GarageBand to make audio clips to add to my iMovie projects. Since I need sounds effects I have downloaded a few from the Internet. They all are in the format "MPEG audio stream files" and come with the annotation "@ HTTP" on the icon. Are they Podcasts and if they are why I cannot use GarageBand to import them as audio files into iTunes?
Thanks in advance for any imput.
    Frank

Take a look at the file size, it's probably very small. Streaming means that you don't actually have the snd file... when you play that reference file the audio is streamed over the internet to you (like a radio broadcast, you don't have the recording, but you can listen to it)
As a guess I would think that these are not freeware snd f/x, and so you'd be infringing on someone's Copyright by trying to use them.

  • Can iTune convert MPEG audio stream files?

For my iMovie projects I sometimes need Sound Effects. They can be downloaded for free from the Internet, however the audio files are in the "MPEG audio stream" format. I can listen to them, but iMovie will not accept them. Can they be converted to file recognizable by iMovie?
    Frank

You cannot convert streams, because you're not actually downloading an audio file, but only the link to it.
There are 3 audio capture applications known to me, which can be used to record the streams and add the recordings to iTunes.
Audio Hijack and Audi Hijack Pro can be found here and Wiretap Pro here.
    Hope this helps.

  • MPEG Audio Stream

Why is it impossible to pause an MPEG audio stream file without having it restart when you want to play it again? And also, why is it impossible to skip ahead in the MPEG audio stream file while it is playing?

Hi, welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
An audio stream is not a file on your disk or on a cd, it is literally a digital stream that is playing as it is downloading. When you click on "Pause", you are stopping the stream. When you click "Play" again, you are restarting the stream, but there is now download manager for streams, so the stream starts from the beginning of the file on the server side or else from the beginning of the playlist, or, if it is a live radio stream, you will pick the stream up at the current live position.
While some of the stream is cached on your computer, iTunes has no control over the cache, and the stream is not cached as a file, so the cache may only hold the most recent portion of the stream.
I have seen some movie streams that you could pause, backtrack, or move forward (once enough of the stream was downloaded) using Quicktime, but I have seen nothing similar for audio streams short of recording the stream and then playing the resultant file.

  • Loading MPEG audio stream onto ipod

I've downloaded the MP3 of the day from Spinner into iTunes. It plays fine in iTunes, but it won't load onto my iPod. Is there anything I can do to make it load?

What's a netbook? I think you meant mini notebook.
No, I meant Netbook. Netbook is a term that generally refers to a very small notebook whose primary functions are web browsing, email, and other light tasks. They generally have built in WiFi and some of the, like the one I have, also has a built in cellular modem for which I pay a monthly access charge.
Anyways, thanks to all. This forum doesn't implement point awards for replies.
    Actually it does.

  • Importing as MPEG audio instead of MPEG video

I have MPEG Movie Clip (.mpg) files from my Sony camcorder which I am trying to backup to DVD's.  When I import them some are importing as MPEG video correctly and some are appearing as MPEG audio incorectly.
The ones showing as audio files are defienlty video files as can play them in windows media player but for some reason only the audio is being imported.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how can be rectified.
Thanks - please can someone help - this has been taking me ages to resolve.  The sony software is rubbish - hence using encore.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for your prompt advice - I am using CS4 version.
I am trying to create dvd’s from my video files which I created on my sony hard disk camcorder so that I can play them on my dvd player.  I am in UK so require PAL format.
So I need to use Premiere Pro – is that right?.  So do I export from Premiere Pro to Encore whilst they are both open?  Can I not just create the dvd’s in Premiere Pro – I don’t need fancy menus.
I am confused why some appear in Encore correctly as video but others as audio.  When I play the files from explorer they open in windows media player and play as a video.
I am really new to this so apologies for the basic questions.
    Thanks

  • Audio Stream Songs

Songs are showing up in my Itunes library that I don't want there. They are snippets of songs that I previewed. If I go to "get info" they are listed as MPEG audio streams. Is there a setting where I can remove these from my library?

  • MPEG AUDIO and MP3

Is there a difference between MPEG audio in itune podcast and MP3? If i burn a cd for bible (scriptures) listen along non protected podcasts, which I stored in itune, do I need to change the podcast file to MP3 or is it in that format already, thus I just need to select the files and burn?

So mpeg and mp3 are not the same.
Yes, they are the same. iTunes designates mp3 as kind = 'MPEG audio file'.
So if you want to burn those on an MP3 CD, no conversion is needed.
If you convert AAC podcast audio files to mp3, they will not appear in the Podcast library, because converting kind of strips the podcast flag from them.
The converted file will then be seen as a 'normal' audio file and appear in the Music library.
Sort the Music library on 'Date Added' to quickly find them.
The native format of Audio CDs is 16 bit PCM. This format is uncompressed and MAC OS X and iTunes 'see' those files as AIFF.
AIFF is not equal to 16 bit PCM, but since both formats are uncompressed, the conversion can be done very fast.

  • How do I move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer???

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • Protocol for network storage for remote playing music/films

Hello, i want to make network storage, where i will store music, films and other stuff.
Can any one help please to choose protocol/technology (FTP, CIFS, NFS....) wich let me play music/films from this network storage without copying it to harddrive of desktop.
I whant that it be like in windows network neighborhood.
I used FTP, CIFS(samba), NFS as protocols in network storage and  GNOME and KDE4 in desktop, deadbeef as player and audio file with 432 Mb size. When i try to play it on mounted folder it just does nothing.
Thanks and sorry for my english.

Since you do not mention anything about real streaming (e.g. real streaming server as NAS which servers video streams to corresponding dumb streaming clients) pretty much any file network protocol should server your needs.
You can easily mount parts of a Linux systems directory tree even via ftp or ssh. There are implementations for Linux which let you mount them as part of your directory tree (ftpfs and sshdfs).
You might have a look here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/FtpFs
    and here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sshfs
Both have some overhead and are a bit slower since they are implemented via fuse but in general even a 10 MBit should be fine for full PAL DivX playback. For 1080p or multiple HD streams 100 MBit are somewhat nicer.
Make shure that the NAS box has enough CPU power for handling the SSH-load if you use sshfs. Beside this of course Samba or NFS will do the job with higher performance but also require additional services on your NAS box.
All protocols will "integrate" in the desktop environment you use since they are simply part of your directory tree.
As empthollow already mentioned the playback issues are more related to the file itself or the player. You can easily find out by either trying out another player with your audio file or try another audio file with deadbeef.

  • Actiontec GT784WNV won't work with network storage

I had DSL connection problems which turned out to be outside the house and are now fixed. However in the process of fixing the line, Verizon sent me an Actiontec modem because they don't know how to deal with my Netgear DGND3300, which I have been using for a few years(!). I can not get the Actiontec to connect reliably with my network storage box (NAS), a Thecus n2100. The NAS appears in the list of lan devices but I can not get reliably to the files on it. Sometimes it works for a while then stops. Everything works fine with the Netgear and I configured the Actiontec the same (as much as possible, the Actiontec is a chintzy modem compared to the Netgear). BIG problem: there is NO user manual for the Actiontec that I could find!
I would prefer to use my Netgear modem but if there is a problem, Verizon wont provide support. Is anyone else using network storage with the Actiontec?

Check the Network menu on the front of the printer.  Does it indicate it is connected to your router with a proper IP address (not 0.0.0.0 nor 169.254.x.x)?  If not, in that same Network menu, Restore Network Defaults and check again.
Next, go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer, then:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • No audio when compressing .mov to Mpeg transport stream (m2t)

Since reinstalling OSX and FCS2 I don't get audio when I compress a quicktime movie to mpeg transport stream, used to be able to do it. I'm playinh the m2t in mpeg streamclip and assume it will handle audio, settings in compressor look ok, (48K 16 bit) although the button for multiplexed mpeg i/layer 2 audio is greyed out and unticked !?

Answering my own query here, but in case it helps someone else ... there appears to have been sound all along, at least since I ticked the mpeg audio box on the extra tab. When the file is playing in mpegstreamclip you have to work the volume fader down and up again at which point the sound comes on (yes it was faded up initially)
Wierd one, its almost as though there was a faulty physical fader rather than a virtual one.

  • What is the best Mac friendly Network Storage Device?

I am having trouble with my current network storage device. It is an Iomega Stor Center ix2-200 using OS EMC Lifeline. I have it connected to my Time Capsule 7.5.2 via an ethernet cable.
I have an iMac running OS X 10.6.6, and a MacBook Air.
Both are having issues after sleep. My iMac will freeze. My MacBook Air will give a perpetually spinning wheel. Both computers do this intermittently, only after sleep, and otherwise run perfectly. Reading other posts, it appears that some network storage devices can cause this to happen.
So I want to buy the most reliable network storage device there is, to plug into Time Capsule (using USB). It would be nice if my Windows Vista computer could access it, but not a requirement. I just want to make sure whatever I buy will not cause issues with the iMac or MacBook Air.
It would be perfect it it had mirror RAID1 capability.
Anyone have experience to assure that a specific network storage device will work well?
    Thanks,
    -Lee
