MP3s won't play correctly in Media Sourc

I just downloaded Media Source 5 (5.0.38) for my Zen. I have discovered quite a few of my previously ripped MP3 suddenly don't play right. They played great in 3.30.2 and still do.
I ripped all of these myself several years ago. A single version of MusicMatch was used to do all the ripping, hundreds of CDs.
I've discovered this pattern. If one track of a CD is wrong, all tracks from that CD play wrong. Otherwise all tracks of the CD play perfectly.
With Media Source 5, when I start play on a bad track, the progress bar zooms across at about 0 times normal speed. When it gets to the right end, playing stops, despite the song being far from finished.
So I tried the MS Media Player. Also bizarre behavior. The bar shoots across just as fast, but the song doesn't stop with the bar hits the right.
Media Source 3 always works correctly on all mp3 files. Trying to find a pattern, I tried other mp3 players. Here is that result:
These are the ones that play it correctly:
Creative MediaSource 3
Nero Showtime
MusicMatch
PowerDVD
Garmin GPS
Wrong:
Creative MediaSource and mp3 player 5
MS Media Player
Based on the above pattern it doesn't make sense to be that just some CDs could be "damaged", since either all tracks or none of a CD are "bad". Also, the same program was used to rip them all. They play fine on most players, just not MediaSource 5 and MS Media Player .
Has anyone ever heard of this? It there anyone here that can examine a sample file and figure out what's "wrong" with it's My purpose here is to discover whether this is a player problem or something else. MediaSource could be using a Windows resource to play mp3 files which would explain why both it and Media Player both fail.
Thanks.
Bruce.

  • .3g2 files won't play in any media player

    Hello.
Ever since we updated to OS X Mavericks, any old .3g2 files won't play in any media player on our iMac. When we go to play them, they play button in QuickTime just flashes from pause to play and then back to pause and and nothing happens. I'm not sure if this file type is becoming outdated and therefore is not compatible with the new OS X, but I am just curious if anyone knows if there is a way to fix this.
    Thanks.

    Did you try VLC?

So just to be clear on a few things:
Should partitioning the hard drive not work is it undoable?
Will this have any impact on doing a complete erase and reinstall and will that restore it back from the process?
Is there a limited amount of space that makes this process ineffective?
I have never had to do this sort of thing so I just want to be sure I don;t wind up in the dog house *)

When I import a video I recorded to my laptop from my Iphone 5c  it won't play on window media centre or vec or any medium. Please help??? It plays perfect on the phone.

The format from the phone is :
h.264 encoded video, AAC audio. Both standards of MPEG 4.
You need Windows Media Player version 12 or above to play MP4 (or add the codecs to your current version).

  • 96kbps tracks won't play correctly

    Win 2K Itunes 7.3.2.6
All was fine for many years... suddenly anything that's not @ 128kbps sounds faster, scratched, jumpy - help!!
All music plays correctly through Windows Media Player but not through Itunes or Quicktime.
Incidentaly, all the 96kbps tracks say Encoded with: Unknown - although I have always used itunes.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Paul

Set your encoding preferences to MP3 @ 128 (or whatever number you prefer). Take one track to work on, and use Advanced > Convert Selection to MP3. Find the new MP3 in your library; if you sort by Date Added it will be at the top. See if the new MP3 plays OK. If so, keep it and delete the original (96) one. BTW, the new one should say "Encoded with iTunes x.x.x."

  • Song won't play correctly no matter how many times I replace it.

I am trying to copy over Santana - Supernatural - Do you like the way to my iphone. But the problem is everytime it is copied to the iphone it seems to become corrupted and doesn't play correctly. If I play it in iTunes it has no problem so the original file is ok. It's just the copy on the iphone that is messed up. What it will do is start playing the song for about 1 second, then sound ends for 1 second then the song restarts. This happens every time.
Like I said I have deleted it off my phone about 4-5 times and told it to recopy it again but it won't. Perhaps I am not deleting it right? I delete it off of my play list then sync my phone. It no longer shows up in my list of songs or by artist. Then I put the song back on the play list and resync it.
    Any ideas?

    one thing that might help.
If the song was imported from a cd or other location, you might want to try changing the format of the song file.
Here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • I just purchased Premiere 13 and the video files won't play in Windows Media Player. I have audio but no video. What can I do? I have Premiere 12 and everything works fine with it.

    What can I do?

    Bonan
Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 64 bit
What are your export settings for this finished video from Premiere Elements 13?
For example - are you using
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVChD
    with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30
    or something different like
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    MPEG
    with Presets = MPEG2 1920 x 1080i30
    or something different ....
We are going to have to get at your export settings which gets us to the properties of the finished video that you are trying to play in Windows Media Player.
If you take your finished video from Premiere Elements 13 and import that into a new Premiere Elements 13 project with Add Media/Files and Folders,
does it import into the new project. And, when the video is in the new project, does it display video and have audio in the Edit area monitor?
We need more details of the properties of the finished video. Knowing that you have no problems with this matter in Premiere Elements 12 and that
the finished video plays in CyberLink are important, but they do not help to figure out what is happening in 13 so that it does not happen again.

  • Videos won't play correctly on new machine

I just got a new computer and I'm running Vista on it. I transferred all my purchased videos to it, but none of them play correctly. The audio works fine but the video is slow and choppy. I already tried everything I could find on the apple website and none of it worked. The computer easily meets the requirements for playing video and I have th newest version of itunes. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

When you say you "authorized the computer", you are talking about setting up iTunes to play your purchased content, right?

  • Mp3s won't play for most who open my iWeb site

I am a pianist with an iWeb site. I drop my mp3s on various pages, then a photo on top to make it look cool. Set them to auto play. Most can not cue them when the site or page opens...some can. Would anyone please be willing to help me understand why this is and what I must do about it so that the majority can hear?
    Thank you!

    http://web.mac.com/johnriger3

iWeb uses only the QuickTime browser plug-in (page code) and without it your visitors can't hear your file.
iWeb has changed your source .mp3 file and placed it inside a .mov container:
    http://web.mac.com/johnriger3/Site_2/Media/Pure%20Love%201.mov
which means only QuickTime can be used to play the file.
The page code also requires javascript be enabled. If javascript is turned off your file will also not play.

  • DVD made on a Mac, won't play correctly on a Mac, will play on a DVD player

Can some bright person please explain this?
I have an NTSC project, 90 mins in length.  I made an m2v file in Compressor (at several different presets, all with the same result), from which I authored a DVD in DVDSP.
The resulting DVD plays fine in a DVD player onto a TV, but stutters slightly, and unpredictably, when played on any of my three Macs, (and on a PC as well!). The stuttering will not necessarily be in the same place in the timeline every time.  The stuttering shows up on horizontal pans (there is a lot of rostrum artwork in this project, so lots of smooth pans across drawings).  Now, when I look at the m2v file directly in MPEGStreamclip, I see the stuttering as well.  Also, when I look directly at the footage in the FCP timeline, sure enough, there is occasional stuttering there too, but here's the thing - when I look at the direct output from the timeline simultaneously on a TV monitor, there is no stuttering.
I tried putting compression markers every 10 frames in the worst affected areas, but it made no difference.  Examining the m2v file closely, I can see all the frames are as they should be - there is no evidence of the image being out of place, so it's a playback issue, not a compression issue.  It seems the computer dispaly cannot keep up with the playback, even though the computer itself can (hence the correct display on a TV).
I regularly play commercial DVDs in these Macs, with no problem whatsoever.  I am now trying to produce a commercial DVD which will play equally well in a computer as in a DVD player.  Where am I going wrong?
(I regularly make DVDs from material sourced either in the PAL format or an HD format, following the same workflow, and have not experienced this problem before.  I don't know whether that is of any significance.)
    Tech details:  FCP v6.0.5 (FCS)
    MacPro 2.8GHz 8-core
    MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz
    Mac OSX 10.5.8

Well, I tried that on a section, and I'm afraid it may have been worse than I had originally.  These are the settings in Compressor that I tried.  Am I still getting something wrong?

  • Mp3 won't play. "The Resource map is incorrect".

    Symptom:
When I double click an mp3 in finder, quicktime gives an error:
*"The movie could not be opened. The resource map is incorrect"*
When I press spacebar to try and hear it, the preview shows the artwork, but no music plays.
    *What I've tried:*
When I do a "get info", finder correctly reports that it is a "+Mp3 Audio+" and not a movie
I tried to reinstall quicktime 7.5.5 to no avail.
The music opens fine in itunes.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

How is the drive where the clips are stored, formatted?
Macs use HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) formatting which provides for support of Resource Forks in files.
Windows FAT format does not provide this functionality -it is a so called flat format -Resource Forks are stripped from the file. Your Mac needs that information to tell the operating system how to handle the files, for instance, what application opens them.
If your drive is indeed FAT formatted as most "off the shelf" drives are, you will have to reformat (Erase) it using Disk Utility and recapture the footage. This will of course destroy all information on the drive.

  • Video won't play in timeline or source monitor

I recently purchased a Canon HG10 camcorder and have been attempting to edit the AVCHD .mts files using Premiere Pro CS4 (4.2.1). However, I have been unable to play the video in either the timeline or source monitor. Both the video and audio will play for a fraction of a second and then stop. I thought it might be an issue with the .mts file so I converted it to several other formats (Quicktime, H.264, MPEG4, etc.) and I still can't get any video to play. I imported and tried playing other video, but to no avail. I can edit, scrub, export, apply effects, and do pretty much anything else - but I can not get it to play in the timeline. I do have Final Cut Express and if I convert the .mts file to Quicktime I can edit it, but I would like to be able to edit the native Canon AVCHD.
    Current system:
    iMac 10.6.4
2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    3 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon X1600
    74 GB hard drive space
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Jason

    Jason,
The first thing that I would check would be your Playback Preferences. Please list your settings, and folk here can review them and possibly spot something simple.
Next, I would do one of two things, regarding your Catalyst drivers for you ATI/AMD card. If you do not have the latest driver, download and install it. If you DO have the latest Catalyst driver, keep it around in a safe folder, but download and install an earlier version. Cannot recall the exact numbers now, but a few users had to go back about three versions. Also, since those driver versions were listed in this forum, I'd bet that at least two more have been released. Going back a few months, it seems that there were 2 - 3 versions, that did not work well with some Adobe programs.
Though I have all nVidia cards, I keep drivers going back about 6 mos., as I never know when I might encounter an issue and need to roll-back.
Also, as the gaming market drives the video card business, and their drivers, it is possible that some gamer-only module has been added. That happened with nVidia drivers about a year ago. For a couple of versions, one had to manually disable a 3D and another gamer-only module. Later versions installed with these off, unless the user turned them on.
Last thought - check your OpenGL settings, and depending on your OS, check Hardware Acceleration. In your Catalyst console, check what your 3D settings are. You want to set any to "Let the application choose," or similar syntax.
Good luck, and hope that something there helps you.

  • Some MP3s won't play???

some mp3s will load up and show and play while the ipod is hooked up to the computer but once I disconnect and listen to my ipod separately I noticed that some mp3 arent there. how can I fix?
    thank in advance

The Shuffle is picky about the settings for each track. For instance, with Podcasts, if the Podcast track is set to "Skip While Shuffling", no tracks will play (the green and amber lights flash). I would isolate one track that you know was skipped and then check its settings paying close attention to the "Skip While Shuffling" check box under the tracks properties.

  • Dvd won't play on Windows media player

I have used idvd 6 to burn a final cut express movie onto a dvd. However, when I try to play it on my pc, it will not work. It works on a dvd player, but not Windows media player. Is there any way to make this work?
    Thanks!

HI there, I am too having this issue, I have never had this problem before. I always test the dvd in my windows p.c. to make sure it is viewable. I forgot to do it this time, and low and behold when I gave it to a few people, they were also not able to view it. 2 pc's in my office keep saying that it is missing an mpg2 plugin so can not play. The other pc, it just keeps playing the main menu, there is nothing for them to click to view it. Now mine at home will not play either, it has no menus on the screen, but it plays the menu music. Now my p.c. is up to date so there should not be any reason it will not play. I have burned at 1x, verbatim disc's etc.. It plays fine on my Mac, but even there I have just noticed that I used to be able to click with the mouse on each title to play. Now I have to scroll on the menu, then play from the dvd player control. Any help would be appreciated. They have been playing on a TV with the player though, thanks as always, Ileen
