Mp4 audio but no video
Just installed the newest version of QuickTime and now my Camtasia produced mp4s will not play the video. Is there a fix?
Do you get that if you view any videos on the PC? (Including the QuickTime sample movie down in your program files?
Here's a screenshot of where to find the file on a 64-bit system:
(On a 32-bit system, the \QuickTime\ folder is in \Program Files\ rather than \Program files (x86)\)

I know you are all thinking that this is a stupid question based on the topic, but I have videos for some reason that are in the form of mp4 audio, but they are video when I play them on my computer. I can open these videos (mp4 audio instead of mp4 video) using Windows Media Player and it's not just audio, there is also video. However, whenever I try to sync it to my iPod, it shows up in my music section instead of videos. If i play the video under music, all I see is the white iTunes background, no video. Is there anyway for me to set these files to be recognized as video and store it under my movies category?
Thanks.First, go into Get Info and change the Media Kind on the Options tab to tell iTunes that this is a video. Next, you need to sync this item from the Video tab on your iPod detail in iTunes (i.e. don't sync it as if it was a Music item). If you sync all video content then this will happen automatically once you change the Media Kind. But if you only sync part of your video library, make sure you include this video in the sync selection.
If you still have problems, you may need to convert the video for iPod playback, even if it plays fine in iTunes. If that's the case, right-click on the video and you'll see an option to convert for iPod use, which will make a copy (so make sure you know which version to sync to the iPod, or simply delete the original). -
I recently updated my Quicktime Pro with the new H.264 update, but when I watch a movie, I get audio but no video. Any ideas?

It may be MP4 but what codecs? Use get info while playing report back what it says for audio and video codecs. MP4 can be h.264, DivX, 3ivX, XVid, MS non conforming own version and on it goes..... -
Audio, but no video when compressing FCPX files
I am trying to compress a 4-minute video for use on YouTube. I send the edited video from FCPX to Compressor 4 and have used several of the preset settings (H.264 for Video Podcasting and HD 720p Video Sharing). In both cases, the .mov file has audio, but no video. When I use the Export Media option to export the raw .mov file, there is video and audio. Any idea why this is happening? What are the best settings to use for YouTube? When I send it straight to YouTube via FCPX (by logging into my YouTube account), everything works fine. But I need a separate .mov file to send around elsewhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm guessing Warwick is correct.
One other thought: if you have an "Export Media" option, your version of FCPX is not current and should be updated. Afterwards, Id suggest running repair permissions in Disk Utility.

My experience is the 720p YT and Vimeo presets are fine for uploading. If your project is 1080p, you'll have that option as well.
By send around elsewhere, the usual tradeoffs between quality and file size apply. Usually h.264 – either Quick Time or MP4 at the original resolution and frame rate – provides the best tradeoff. That is, unless someone is going to be showing it in a movie theater.

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package. -

What site are you trying to watch? I just tested 3. The you tube app streams from the pad to apple tv fine, as long as the source video format is ok. Checked a site called funny or die.com. Most of the videosmthere stream to apple tv fine. A few have a different format, and do audio only. Netflix does not stream at all, but you can get to netflix directly from apple tv. Whether or not it streams is directly related to the format of the video. Some do, some dont.

Blu Ray Burned in Encore CS4 play audio but no video
I've burned this project multiple times and everytime I get the menus and the audio, but no video when played on a Blu Ray player. The same disc plays fine in computer/laptop. And when I tried a shorter version of the project (10 minutes vs. an hour and a half for the original) it plays fine everywhere. Could the file size be causing my disc not to play in a BD-R player? Then why would it play on a computer/laptop?

Apple TV...audio, but no video
I have been not been successful in being able to watch anything from my I-pad onto the TV. I can get audio, but no video. Any suggestions on what I may be missing in the set up??? Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

You probably need to update Flash Player.

You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe. -
Audio but no video on .mov files
I'm trying to watch a tutorial disc (working with Ableton Live). The video files are .mov, the disc comes with the install for Quicktime 7.03. I have Quicktime Pro 7.12. When I try to play the video files, I get audio but no video.
When I try to play the files in VLC Player, I get video but an audio error (and no audio)...
Anyone familiar with this issue (I've searched the forums and found similar issues, but nothing the same as this...)?Nothing about Sorenson 3 (video track) AAC (audio) or Apple BMP (image format layer) that would keep the file from playing on your machine.
Do you open these .mov files directly from the CD (double click) or is there some app that is used from the CD to play them?
Try a double click and test the files while logged in under a different user account. -
I have an Ipad 2 and I am trying to use the a new component av cable I bought to play hulu on my tv from the iPad 2. I get audio but no video. Can any help?

Flash player 11.6.602.180 plays audio but not video...
Very similar to problems reported by others. Just started recently... flash player on Win 7 and IE 10 plays audio but no video... just black box or blank.
Have reinstalled flash player several times... including following all clean install instructions several times. Installation completes and and tells me it's installed successfully.
Have carefully matched IE settings to allow activeX content and have enabled the flash player object and turned on active scripting for all zones, etc. Still no video.
Going to the flash verification page shows a blank box where the current installed version should be.
If I look in control panel under Flash Player it tells me the activeX version is 11.6.602.180 and that the plug in is "Not Installed"... could that be the problem?

My Airplay is delivering Audio but no Video (black screen). The drop down box has a new selection "use airplay to; it does not let me select 'Mirror my IMac', it is stuck on 'extend desktop' any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks but I found my problem. It was easy oncew I found out the flask player was also called shockwave. My shockwave add-on was disabled. I'm not certain what caused the condition. I was good one day and not getting the error messages the next day. But, I know what to look for in the future if it reoccurs. Thanks again.
