Mp4 audiobook problems

With recently downloaded audiobooks in MP4 format - which appears highly compressed compared to previous books I've downloaded - if I don't use the IPod overnight and start up in the morning, going back to the book I was listening to, after about a minute or two the IPod takes me to the next selection in my audiobooks list and loses my place in the book I was listening to. An example of a book that did that continuously was Lush Life by Richard Price.
Any suggestions? I've tried reloading the book but did not help the problem. I'm now listening to another book - Cimmaron Rose by James Lee Burke, doing exactly the same thing. Very frustrating....
Thanks

This seems to be a bug with iPods & Apple is offering no assistance.
I've created several audiobooks from the CD versions I own and have the same issue. They all loose their bookmark after about 2 minutes if you pause the book, play something else, or let the ipod go into deep sleep. When you go back tot he book you were listening to & start playing, it continues where you left off for a minute or two, then jumps to the next track/book.
The otherwise wonderful program "Audiobook Builder" is essentially useless due to this bug. The author of that program has been trying to no avail to get support from Apple.
It seems like Apple is trying to force people to buy books from iTunes or Audible only.
This is very frustrating for people that have many books on CD or cassette already & would like to get them on their iPod.

  • Audiobook Problem

I've been having a problem with loading audiobooks on to my iPod. (An 80-gig video one, if it helps?) I have mp3 files that I load into iTunes, but when I try to play them on my iPod it won't play them one after the other but instead says "Track 1 of 1" and goes back to the menu after one track. As you can imagine, with three-minute chapters and having to find the next track manually each time (while filing medical records!) is profoundly irritating.
I've tried making playlists for the books, I've tried converting the files to AAC, whatever that means, I've tried setting them for gapless playback, I set them so they won't pop up in shuffle and nothing will change this. They refuse to go in the Audiobooks folder, too.
This is a recent problem; audiobook files would always play consecutively for me before, but now they don't. Anybody know why?

There is another way, create a smart playlist just for audiobook files.
Go to file > new smart playlist. Click match the following rule genre contains 'audiobooks'. Also tick the live updating box. Now make sure all your audio titles have the genre audiobooks and they will be included in the playlist. Now on your ipod set playlist to be included on the first menu of the ipod.
Now when you want to play your audiobooks you just turn the pod on, go to playlists then go to your audiobooks playlist. It's not as quick as just going to the audiobook folder (which you can remove if you use this method)but it only requires one extra click to get to your book.

  • Audiobook problem ever going to be solved?

Is the problem with the audiobook folder ever going to be solved? The one where you can't get the audiobook file into the audiobook folder, no matter what you do? (Including converting, deleting, copying into different folder, and moving back to iTunes several times.)
This is getting to be really annoying.
Is there any way to re-arrange the files manually? Is there ever going to be an update for iTunes that manages it?

    Browser Dog, Amy,
The default font remains Myriad Pro until you change it, either in the RGB/CMYK Startup files or in the preferences, options depending on versions.
Concerning missing font names, I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.

  • Audiobook problems

The audiobooks that were already on my computer are not showing up in the Audiobook section of the new iTunes7 Library. They are in with all the music files. Any suggestions for getting them in to the Audiobooks folder?

I have the same problem as Rebekah B. I imported a book on cd and they are in the iTunes 7 Library showing up as music. I downloaded and ran a script from Doug Adams AppleScripts (Make Bookmarkable) . It converts the tracks into .m4b extension but they still remain in the Music section with nothing showing in the Audiobooks Folder.
Anyone have a answer for this?

  • Large MP4 videos problem on Nokia X6 16Gb

I just bought an X6 to replace my N95. Previously I converted lots of my DVDs full movies to MP4 (using Handbrake) and they all ran great on my Nokia N95.
Really useful when stuck in airports!
So I was looking forward to the X6 with it's larger screen. I loaded some of my MP4s to it - but none play - the device simply refuses to play them. I checked the files aren't damaged - I can play them from the phone memory on my PC using the USB link.
A typical full movie I've converted comes out at around 700Mb.
What if anything am I doing wrong? I normally use the Handbrake presets which are suggested for the iPod.
Is there an alternative video player I can install on my X6?

Tried Smart Movie, and still will not play but reveals that some of the problems may be due to RealPlayer not supporting AVC1 codec (ie. Apple's version of MPEG for iPhone).
So with iPhone dominance it looks like any podcasts specifically coded for the iPhone (and they are on the increase) means that the X6 at least misses out yet again.
My trusty old 6303 plays fine however so why on earth did Nokia introduce a less compatible video player for the X6 which is a much higher spec phone?
Nokia please help us loyal customers and sort out the compatibility issues. Please add the AVC1 codec in the next phone or Real player update. Please.
Any moderator or Nokia employee looking at this can we have a comment?
    Many thanks

  • Premiere Elements 8 & MP4 video problem

    A.T. Romano
Attached is my MP4 video from my Sanyo Xacti. When I perform a "Get Media" in Premiere Elements 8 I only see red cells in the timeline, task panel and playback monitor were red. No video images would display, only sound. Any Ideas?
    Thanks APK

    APK
    SANY0002.MP4
    According the gspot utility
    Video Codec = MPEG-4 Video
    Frame Size: 1280 x 720
Frame Rate: 29.97 frames per second
    Sar = .1778 (16:9)
    Par = 1:1
    Dar = 1.778 (16:9)
Audio Codec = MPEG-4 AAC LC
    48000 Hz 128 kb/s tot, stereo (2/0)
    Premiere Elements 8 Import/Playback
SANY002.MP4 original. Video and Audio imported, but video presented as a bright red matte, but audio was fine.
SANY002.MP4 with file extension changed to .AVI. Video and Audio imported, but video presented as black video, but audio was fine.
    Conversion Workaround Solution
Convert file to DV AVI widescreen (720 x 480 with 16:9 flag)
MPEG Streamclip (free MPEG Streamclip + QuickTime Alternative 1.81 (with free MPEG2 Playback Component) and uninstall regular QuickTime OR free MPEG Streamclip, leave your regular QuickTime installed, and buy the required Apple MPEG2 Playback Component)
    http://www.squared5.com/
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    MPEG Streamclip suggested settings:
File Menu/Open, to bring in your video
    File Menu/Export to AVI
    Then in AVI/DivX Explorer dialog:
    Compressor: Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
    Sound: Uncompressed
Put a dot next to 720 x 480 (DV NTSC)
    Field Dominance: Lower Field First
Up at top right, click on Options, set there for Aspect Ratio = 16:9.
Only if necessary, put a check mark next to Deinterlace Video.
Anything that I did not mention, leave as is.
Finally, click on Make AVI and the job is done quickly and effectively.
This gave great results with your video, and this DV AVI version worked well video and audio wise in Premiere Elements 8.
Your could use the free Prism Video Converter, but the free version is limited to 4:3, and some export types are only available in the purchased version.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
    Prism suggested settings:
    Output format = .avi
Encoder Options = DV Encoder NTSC (Direct Show)
Edit Option = check mark next to Resize Video; uncheck Constrain Proportions; set for 720 x 480.
You could also get a .wmv version from this software. Look into that if you decide to use this converter instead of MPEG Streamclip which is my favorite.
There are lots to explore with your original HD MPEG-4 and its problems with Premiere Elements 8. At one point I had this video on a jump drive. When I went to import the video into Premiere Elements 8 from this jump drive, the Media Downloader was triggered. In the intermediate part of this process, a thumbnail of the video being exported is shown in the Media Downloader Advanced dialog. Interestingly, the thumbnail in the Media Downloader showed the video clearly, but once it got into the Premiere Elements 8 media area—bright red matte looking image in Organizer thumbnail and in the Edit Mode Monitor once the video was dragged to the Timeline.

  • IOS 5 Audiobook Problem

Just updated to 5.0.1 and now my audiobooks do not play. If try to play the track, it immediately exits out into track menu.
not sure if problem with ios 5 or itunes

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • HELP! Audiobook problems using iTunes 7.1.1.1.5

I updated to the newest iTunes 7.1.1.5 tonight and almost all of my audiobooks are useless. It changed the times to 00:00 and will not play most of my library. The titles are there but the books will not play. I tried to add some saved m4b files back to the library but they would not copy to iTunes. I saw others on iLounge had the same problem. I listen to books daily and this is a major problem for me. Does anyone have a solution? Is there a way to report this problem to Apple? Can I reinstall the older version of iTunes that I was using until this problem is repaired? How do I find which older iTunes software version I had? I'm desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This version of iTunes is a disaster for homemade m4b files. The immediate prior version showed 0:00, but would play the files. Now this version will not play. Extends to iPod if it is updated -- that is, files downloaded to iPod that had been playing no longer play.
Anyone ever try a reinstall of prior version? Found these two links for prior versons:
    http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm
    http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.htm
can't find old version for iPod which needs to revert to prior version since already downloaded, manual sync iPod no longer plays m4b files present at time of update.
    or

How does one do this? Uninstall iTunes and QuickTime?
    How report to Apple?

  • Mp4 video problem

    Hi
I have problem with play mp4 video files. I convert it in Blackberry desktop manager, but It doesnt work. It notices me "unsoported format". I tried so many another video converters, but still the same problem.
    Could anyone help me please???
    Michal

HI and Welcome to the Forums!
When you say you convert in DTM, you mean that you launch Media Manager (from within DTM) and use that to copy and convert the file for optimal playback on your BB?  That is the proper method to do this as you describe. If you uncheck the conversion capability of MM, then it's no better than just copying as a USB drive.
You also could try a newer version of DTM/MM, just make sure that it remains compatible with whatever PIM you are using (if you are synchronizing via DTM with a PIM). 5.0.1 is the most recent version:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization

  • Audiobook problem on itouch update...

fter my last update of itouch software, I couldnt listen to my audiobooks... help!!! I've been waiting for Apple to fix this problem, and it has been over a month now. Might I add that one of the reasons I got this iTouch is for the audiobooks... sigh... when?

I have also the same issue with my iTouch (2nd Generation) my Audiobooks show on the itouch in iTunes but they are not on my iTouch. If i select Audiobooks on my iTouch the screen flickers and goes back to the home screen. I did manage to play some when I selected 'Top 25 most played' on the iTouch Playlist and they played no problem so it can find and use them that way. This is my 3rd iTouch and I'm very disappointed with it .... hope they solve this issue soon

  • 3g Iphone and Audiobooks Problem

My 3g iphone was working fine until I cancelled my subscription for mobileme. At the same time it stopped letting me access my audiobooks on my iphone. The memory bar shows me they are on the iphone but when I press audiobooks it exits the ipod function and goes to main screen. I have tried going via the artist but they are no longer showing.
I have reloaded my iphone software and resynced all of my music but no joy. The iphone still plays music videos and ordinary music, just not audiobooks.
    Any suggestions?

    I have the same problem.
Listen to audiobooks all the time. Just upgraded my iphone to 2.1 and now as soon as I try to access the books in the audiobook folder it just goes back to the main menu screen. ....Very annoying.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Import Mp4 File Problem

Help! I have been using FCP 7 for some time now and all of a sudden I cannot import an Mp4 file. I get a file error saying the FCP does not recognize the file? I have been importing and using Mp4 files all along. I can't find any setting in FCP that would address this problem?

FCP doesn't work with MP4 (or H.264) files natively.   Sometimes they work, but it wasn't designed to do so.  For a list of the formats that FCP does work with natively, look at the Easy Setup list.  Create your Sequence using one of those then convert the MP4 file to to match that prior to importing it into your FCP project.

  • Mp4 video problem - choppy

Hi there, I was having problems with viewing MP4 videos (I am using the latest version of Quicktime). The videos were always pixelated and choppy...big time...
Anyways, I've installed 3ivx (www.3ivx.com) for windows and the pixelation is gone.... but the video is still sort of choppy/skipping/lagging.....
I'd apreciate any help with that.
    Thanks,
    popapple

I have heard that the most recent update causes some jerky scrolling in Safari, but apparently it may have affected more than that.
If the problem only started since the most recent software update, it is obviously a software issue. If the same problems occur for all users on the machine after a fresh restart then the only option is to step back to 10.4.6 which I don't really recommend.
You can also try repairing permissions (disk utility is in applications/utilities) and downloading the combo 10.4.7 update and reapplying it.

  • Nero MP4 audio problem

I have a number of MP4 audio files created using Nero 6. With the recent upgrade of iTunes, the program now interprets them as video. The screen turns black and the sound quality is extremely bad. Besides converting the format, is there a way to coax iTunes to play them as pure audio like the older version did. I have a new x-fi soundcard but I don't think this is the problem because they play fine in other audio applications.
Hope someone here can help, and thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Rename 'em to M4A files. This usually works.
Failing that, load the files up in foobar and use the "Optimize MP4/M4A" function on them. This sometimes helps.

  • Audiobooks Problem with iPod Touch

Audiobooks transferred from iTunes to my iPod in WMA format "echo" when played back.  The sound is good when played in iTunes on my PC.  Audiobooks transferred in MP3 format sound OK.  How do I eliminate the "echo" in WMA format?

I have the same model iPod and downloaded and audiobook from iTunes for the first time a couple nights ago and have a similar problem. The book is in three parts. They all play fine on my iBook but my iPod skips the first two parts and will only play the third.
When I select part one on my iPod the screen displays the correct length of the segment, then skips to part two and shows the correct length, then finally skips to part three and plays it just fine.
If I only load part one and part two, the iPod goes through the same process but reverts back to the main menu screen without playing anything.
I had an idea a short while ago I am going to try when I get home. I did a get info on one of the audiobook files and it says it is the same file format as songs from the iTunes store. However, the extension is different. Protected song files are 'name.m4a' (I think, maybe .m4b) and the audiobook files are 'name.m4p.' I think those are the extensions, for some reason I'm having a brain **** right now. Anyway, I'm going to try changing the audiobook extension to match song file extensions and see if that works.
My thought is that the different extension for the audiobooks is how iTunes knows to put the files in the 'Audiobooks' list in iTunes instead of 'Music' or 'Podcasts' etc.
I'll post again after I give it a try.
