MP4 files in CS5 twitching

Hello everyone. Not long ago I had problems using footage in CS4, which was discussed in this thread
http://forums.adobe.com/message/3805546?tstart=0
I was pointed to fact that CS5 handles MPEG files better than CS4 and I did find out that CS5 could play my footage without black bars or green frames which plagued me in last discussion. However, as I had chance using CS5 for this scene I though I'd just use it so I don't have to transcode every other file. Now I have another problem editing these files.
As I opened (and thus converted) my old CS4 project to CS5 I found that compositions didn't work the way they used to work. Files, mask and all were there, but footage didn't play the way it was supposed to. It looks like it plays frames in wrong order giving footage very twitchy look. For example frame 1, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 6 etc. Jumping back and forth. I though it was just messed up in converting process, so I tried starting from scratch, created new project, improrted same files and started doing composition all over. It looked like it worked, I previewed some of the files and saw no twitching. I finished comp 1 and moved to another one; twitching returned. I checked the one I had just finished and now it was twiching too.Interestingly enough, the files I had already ran through media encoder didn't twitch.
I can always move back to my own CS4 and run everything through media encoder, but I'd rather use the footage the way it is. Does this problem sound familiar to any of you? Something obvious I'm missing? I checked framerates and it all should match. It is very frustrating to face so many problems all of a sudden, I have never had problems like this with my camera or AE.
Thanks
*edit*
And while I'm at it, can you think of any way to define whether there is something wrong with my camera or is this (referring to older discussion) propably something AE related? I tried older footage with CS5 and it twitched all the same, but all old footage works fine with CS4, it's just the last two days of shooting that have caused problems. How propable is it that AE all a sudden decided to read these formats differently or something and still be able to use older footage of the same camera just fine?

There's a chance something's screwy with the camera. Settings may have changed without you knowing.
There's also a (better) chance that something is screwy with your computer.
What are your memory and multiprocessing settings? What are your computer's specs?

  • No sound in mp4 files in cs5

    Hi,
I download videos from my youtube channel to rework them in cs5. For the download I use dvdsoft youtube downloader which gives u the option to download original mp4 file and/or render it in different formats such as avi and wmv. Now, when I download those mp4 videos I do have sound in my windows media player after installing those codecs DVDVideoSoft.com: FAQ and Support - K-Lite Codec Mega Pack . But when I test the sound in my after effects with the key , then I get no sound whatsoever. I assume now that those codecs are not loaded into after effects and wonder if there is any solution to it? Can I for example just inport codecs to after effects?
    Thanks
    Chris

Get rid of the K-Lite codec pack. You will find hundreds if not thousands of post where this product is causing problems.

  • Working with MP4 clips in CS5

    Hello to everyone
I am editing clips , video mp4 files, in CS5. I am customizing the sequence settings because each of these clips have diffrent sizes. I want to export in mp4 as well and try to keep the closer possible quality to the original file
    a) When I am exporting I set the file to be exported in the same size than the original, and this is a 16:9 format, but the exported file comes out in 4:3 , why is this? the export setting is clearly in 16:9 dimensions, like the original video and the sequence setting is
    b) to export to mp4 like the original, I am choosing the h.264 code settings, is this the way to go to keep the closest possible quality to the original?
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards

    a) In the first particular video, the one I am trying now. The export setting is
    output:  pal 440x352 25fps, AAC, 192, 48kb     and the origin sequence is  440x352 , 25, , is a 16:9 size but I am getting the video in 4:3
    b) I am working with Mac, the original video is Mp4, so should I export to Avi or quicktime then?
Thanks a lor for your help

    Thanks,

Not a problem; not scolding, just suggesting that users there might be of more help, since CS5/CS5.5 is a whole different animal than CS4.
I suspect that, if setting playback to full resolution didn't help, there's not much you can do with these files as they are. You'll have to convert them to something else. Does the break up appear when you step through the video frame by frame? If not, you could use AME to convert these to something else, which will then let you edit a little more effectively in Premiere Pro.
EDIT: Sorry, missed that you said that exporting retained the blobs. In light of that, you'll have to look at a third-party converter to flip these. MPEG Streamclip for Windows might work.

  • Photoshop CS5 Extended won't covert mp4 files to layers?

I recently downloaded cs5 and it won't download .mp4 files to layers. whenever i go to file > import > video frames to layers, the mp4 files are greyed out and i can only click on .avi files.
there is no high quality converter from mp4 to avi, so it's quite frustrating.
any ideas about what may be wrong?
    thanks,
    catherine.

    Hi Catherine
Try importing it as a layer inside an already open file:
Layer > Video Layers > New Video Layer From File
If that still doesn't work, try:
    File>Place
but it will be opened as a smart object

  • Photoshop CS5 doesn't import mp4 files?

    Hi everyone,
I have tried literally everything but I'm really lost right now. Photoshop won't import mp4 or any other file, it only accepts avi container files.
It's a pain to convert every single file to avi if I want to use Import > Video frames to layers.
I have already installed Quicktime Pro but that doesn't seem to work.
    Can somebody please help me?

Though Adobe Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4 was announced to be compatibility with MP4, people still have problems in importing MP4 to Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4. MP4 file format is a container format which defines the storage of MPEG-4 audio, scenes and multimedia content using the ISO Base Media File Format, the MP4 file may also contain any number of audio, video, and even subtitle streams. So it is impossible for the MP4 file to determine the type of streams in an MPEG-4 file based on its filename extension alone. If you have problem of importing MP4 to Photoshop CS5/CS4/CS3 on Windows or on Mac, it is better to convert MP4 to Photoshop CS6/CS5/CS4 supported video format MPEG-4.

  • Bridge loads .mp4 files, upon import to After Effects, .mp4 video data lost

    Hello all,
Today I've encountered a strange issue with my .mp4 file. My friend exported a video with h.264 compression with the YouTube 4k Preset from Premiere Pro CC (Mac version). The only settings he changed were the maximum/target bitrate to the maximum allowed and checked "maximum render quality". He exported that directly to his Dropbox desktop application and sent me the download link. I previewed it on Dropbox's website. There was audio and video. I downloaded the file and Windows Media Player sees it as just an audio file and there are no visuals. Quicktime sees it as a video file and displays visuals. I open the file in Bridge CS5.1 I have the Production Premium Collection CS5.5. In Adobe Bridge, the file contains audio and visuals (including metadata to back that up). I can even preview it. I right click the file and select place in After Effects and in After Effects, once again, the file shows no resolution, just audio. Why won't After Effects display my clip? (While the Bridge photo doesn't display it, if I drag the cursor to the middle, there is a preview of the frame. The preview area is just blank because I had to open clipping tool to take the screenshots.) Thank you!

What happens if he makes you an intermediate file in something other than h.264?
For the record, that's not an ideal choice for an intermediate codec. Is there a reason you can't use the native .r3d file?

  • Editing MP4 files in CS6 then importing into Premiere Elements 13

I would like to import MP4 files from a Phantom Drone into Photoshop CS6 ---Edit those files--Then rather then making the movie in CS6 --import into Premiere Elements 13 to edit and render ..Is it possible to use both program's to enhance the final movie?    Thanks Tom

    Add On..
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
If your Photoshop CS6 comes with Bridge, I am wondering if there is a way to go from
CS6 Bridge to Elements Organizer 13. From Elements Organizer 13, you could import from there
into the Premiere Elements 13 Editor.
    Quick results...
Photoshop CS5.1 Extended, File Menu/Export/Render Video
    File Menu/Browse in Bridge
Right click .mp4 export in Bridge, select Open With, select Adobe Premiere Elements 13 which needs to be set as default.
Seems 13 is opening but without the .mp4.
    More later.

  • CS6 not importing .mp4 files

Hi everyone.  I am switching from cs5.5 to cs6.  I still have cs5.5 on my computer and just now cs6.  The problem, I have run into is when I try to import a .mp4 video file AE cs6 tells me "After Effects error: file '132_2250_01.MP4' cannot be imported - this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported"
Yet, the same .mp4 file opens up just fine inside Premiere Pro cs6 and AE cs5.5
So, I'm working on a project and it looks like I have to finish it in cs5.5
Any reasonable explanation?  Thanks for your help.
PS-All other .mov .avi files open up just fine in AE cs6
Only files that are giving me a problem with cs6 are the ones I recorded with my Sony EX Cam.  CS5.5 never has.
    Again, thanks for any help

Well batch rendering clips before use is a fairly common practice.  For example, when I used FCP it always had trouble editing interleaved codecs like H.264 because they use poster frames, which had a tendency to get damaged during the trimming process in the edit.  Therefore, whenever editing Canon EOS footage like the H.264 clips from a 5D Mark II or 7D, you had to use an FCP plugin called Log and Transfer to change the H.264 EOS clips to something FCP could handle.  This plugin was essentially a very similar window to the log and capture window, designed to transfer your clips to whatever format you preferred to edit in, and in the case of Canon EOS footage, a Prores422 codec was usually ideal.  This process of logging and transferring all your clips to a new codec usually took hours and hours and was a very obnoxious extra step.  However, now that I'm switching to Premiere I don't have worry about that any longer.  Kevin Monahan just informed me that Premiere Pro CS 5 accepts nearly all codecs to go natively including H.264, and it has no problems with the poster frames.
The point is, I know that batch rendering your clips before use is a painful extra step, but it used to be something I had to do every single time I wanted to edit something out of Canon EOS camera, which I used all the time.  I wish I new why CS6 was having trouble with your .mp4s, but that codec is usually used for lower res video and I have a feeling they should transfer much quicker than 5D footage. Besides, I think you'll feel much better about having your clips in a reliable format like prores.

I believe the proglem is with in Adobe CS5 and something just isnt working correctly and that maybe why it cant read or do anything with RAW files. I also noticed that Adobe's site says that it supports canon 70D CS2 files. my camera files are CR2, im not sure if maybe that might have something to do with my issue.
Nothing to do with anything being faulty in CS5.
The reason has already been given by tpolakov above: The 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 which is only compatible with CS6 and later. CS5 is not compatible with Camera Raw 8.2 so CS5 cannot read Raw files from the 70D. That's all there is to it.

Thanks Tomsm13, I actually tried to convert the files to DNG but that doesnt work either. I used the latest compatable Adobe DNG converter and i get a message that it can not find any camera RAW files to convert.
You select a folder containing CR2 files, not a CR2 file.
See Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube

  • Adobe Media Encoder creates corrupt H264 mp4 file

I am using Premeire Pro CS5 and exporting an H264 mp4 file from a 720x480 timeline.  For one of the files I am exporting, AME completes the export, i.e. I see a green check mark.  But the file is corrupt.  When I try to open the file with Quicktime, I get the following error:
"The operation couldn't be completed - (OSStatus Error - 12848)"
The strange thing is that other timelines exported without any problem.  And this particular timeline I could export using different (but very similar) export settings.  The only thing I'm changing is the video bitrate.  I'm actually creating three different videos for adaptive bitrate streaming, 300k, 550k, and 800k, all from the same video.  The 300k version is the only one that won't work.  But again, what is strange is that other timelines export out fine using the same exact 300k export settings.  It's just this one timeline that won't export without getting the mentioned error.

    I having the same issue.
    Any insight on a solution?

  • Bridge won't preview mp4 files

Please help ! Some mp4 files are playing just fine. Other types of mp4 don't . Is only showing 4 gray dots !

Thumbnail creation and video files has always been a problem with BRidge.  CS6 is better, especially with mp4.  However not all mp4 files are the same.  It is just a wrapper and they can have different CODEC requirements.  If you have G Spot you can find out what the difference is.
With CS5 .avi files were always a problem displaying thumbnails.  I resorted to making a frame capture and using the stack function to show content.
    Do they play OK?

  • Incompatible audio from MP4 file

I have several business partners that are supplying me with .mp4 files from Adobe live flash media encoder, using the h.264 codec, but the only audio choice is for an MP3  codec. this combination displays/plays no audio in Premiere Pro CS5. Only after I use handbrake to convert the audio to the  AAC codec with it play in the Timeline. The upgrade to the main concept plug-in for AFMLE will allow for this, but the business partners are reluctant to spend the $
Question: is CS6 compatible with the default of FMLE with h.264 and the .mp3 audio? if so I will upgrade.
anyone else see this issue when using .MP4 files?

You can always install the trial and see for yourself.

  • I am trying to transfer my movies (mp4 files) to my IPad, but they are not showing up on the IPad. I have 13 movies showing on my IPad that they are in ICloud. I've sync'd the movies I want to the IPad, but only one is showing under the "movies" folder. ?

I have been trying to transfer some different movies from my PC to my IPad, but they are not showing in the "movie" folder. I have sync'd the movies (these are mp4 files) that I wanted transfered, but only one is showing in the folder. There are 13 other movies in the folder that have the ICloud symbol in the corner of their picture. I understand that I can pull those movies from ICloud any time I want to watch them, but I want to watch the ones that I've just sync'd with my IPad. How do I find them? After I checked the movies I wanted, I "applied" them and watched it sync and copy the wanted movies to my IPad. Now what?  Thanks.

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

  • Why do .mp4 files not show up in the Finder/work in iDVD?

    Hi
I downloaded some .mp4 files from the internet on my Windows PC and as per usual they are played by quicktime on my PC.
When I saved them to my external HDD and plugged it into my MBP, the folder containing the mp4 files does not appear, and neither will they import into iDVD where I am trying to burn them.
I am a new MBP user (and a happy one so far) so I am well aware I coukd be missing something here, but I thought that .mp4 was practically guaranteed to play on a Mac especially given the relationship to video iPods?
Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Thanks, but after installing this nothing seems to have changed except that if I download the .mp4 files from my Mac they appear on the Desktop. They can be played with Quicktime but if they are played in VLC there is no sound
The folder on my external HDD which contains the .mp4 files still does not ahow up.
    I am now very confused!
Does anyone have more ideas, I'll try whatever!
