MP4 Merge or Join Files Problem. MP4 Maximum File Size?

I just came back from vacation with my girlfriend, and shot a bunch of home movies with my Canon 5d Mark II. The files created by the camera are MP4's.
There are a dozen of files in total and each one is around 1 GB at 720p.
What I want to do now is merge them together into one file. I have Quicktime Pro 7 and basically have been copying them all into one file, but once I try to copy the 8th file/chapter into the cumulative 7 previous files that are now in one continuos file, it doesn't really add anything.
Is it not working because there is a limit on the file size of the file of an MP4? How can I make sure I merge all the files into one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

couldn't figure it out.

  • Is there a problem with maximum RAM size for Satellite 320CDT?

I have a Satellite 320CDT with the latest BIOS (v8.00) and Windows 98 SE installed; there is 32MB base memory and a 32MB module in the single expansion slot. If I change this for a 64MB expansion module I can still only see 64MB total memory reported, not 96MB as expected; the spec for the machine states that the maximum allowable memory is 160MB (32MB base + 128MB expansion). Does anybody know if there is a problem with the maximum memory size for this model and whether there is a solution or workaround? I need to know quickly, in order to decide if I need to return the memory module to the supplier! Many thanks for any help, Peter

Are you certain you tried the correct type of memory module? It sounds like you're maybe trying to fit an incompatible type.
There's a few different suppliers below.

  • Photo merge panorama import file size?

Is it necessary to convert files to jpeg when doing a photo merge panorama. I keep getting to told to convert to 8 bit from 16 bit and am not sure how to do that.

Which version of photoshop elements and operating system are you using?
If these are camera raw files, then most likely the camera raw converter is set to open the files as 16 bits/channel in photoshop elements.
You can change that by opening a camera raw file and then at the bottom of the camera raw dialog set the Depth to 8 Bits/Channel and then press Done.
Try your pano again and see if that made a difference.

  • Maximum file size for export into MP4?

    Hello,
I am not able to export 2 hour HD video into standard MP4 file. It seems that reaching 100% export algorithm gets into loop. I was waiting for hours and still had seen progress at exactly 100% with final file size on hard disk to be 0 bytes. I am using CS5 on MAC OS X. I had to split my timeline to 2 parts and to export them separately (which is embarrasing). Is there something like maximum file size for export? I guess that 2h video would have about 25-35GB.
    Thank you
    jiri

    You are right.
So I am running AP Pro 5.0.4, Adobe Media Encoder 5.0.1.0 (64bit). Operating system Mac OS X ver 10.7.3. All applications are up to date.
    MacBook Pro Intel i5 2.53GB, 8GB RAM, nVidia GT 330M 256 MB, 500GB HDD
Video is 1920x1080 (AVCHD) 25fps in a .MTS container  (major part of timeline), 1280x720 30fps in .MOV container (2mins), Still images 4000x3000 in .JPG
No error message is generated during export - everything finishes without any problem...just file created has 0 byte size (as described above).
This is my largest video project (1h 54min) I dont have any other problem with other projects.
I dont run any other special software, at the moment of export all usual applications are closed so that MacBook "power" can go to Media Encoder. No codecs installed, using VLC Player or Quick Time.
Attached please find printscreen from Export settings (AP Pro). Writing this ppost I tried to export only the first 4mins from timeline where all kind of media is used...and it was OK.
As a next step I will try to export (same settings) 1h 30mins as I still believe problem comes with length of video exported.
    Let me know your opinion

  • MP4 Maximum File Size?

I just ripped my Blu-Ray version of Planet Earth to MP4's.
Each Chapter was burned as a separate MP4 file.
There are 10 Chapters in total, so I have 10 separate MP4 files.
Each file is around 1.78GB at 3700kbps at 720p.
What I want to do now is merge them together into one file. Then add custom chapters. Anyways, I have Quicktime Pro 7 and basically have been copying them all into one file, but once I try to copy the 7th file/chapter into the cumulative 6 previous files that are now in one continuos file, it doesn't really add anything.
Is it not working because there is a limit on the file size of the file of an MP4? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's true. I have a similar question that doesn't involve backing up my own Blu-Rays for viewing on Apple TV, sorry about that, I'll create a new thread for that one.

  • Publishing to mp4 almost doubles the file size

I have been trying to find someone in the forum with a similar problem but with no success. I hope someone can help me.
I have a Captivate 7 file that is 59 MB.
The resulting mp4 file after publishing is 107 MB.
When I publish the same file to swf it is 18 MB.
Why is the mp4 file so large and how can I reduce its size? I did not have this problem in Captivate 5.5. The mp4 file always was smaller than the cptx file.
There was one strange thing with this file. I had imported 5 images that were around 300K in size and in the Captivate library they showed up as huge files (I think it was something like 60MB per file). I deleted the images from the library after I discovered it and just imported new versions ofthose images. That solved the problem in the library. Could this have something to do with the size of the mp4 file.
I have already tried to create a new project and just copy all slides over. That did not make a difference.
Here is a screenshot of my file sizes
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Angela

RodWard, thanks for your answer. I wanted to publish using Cap 5.5 but I wasn't able to get my Cap 7course into Captivate 5.5. Whenever I tried to copy the slides or even objects from 7 to 5.5., I got an error message. How can I publish a course using Captivate 5.5. if the course is created in Captivate 7.
I have checked every setting three times and they are all correct meaning they are the same as I had them in Captivate 5.5.
I also tried to create a new project and pasted all slides into the project, then published it. That made no difference.
I have created 20 of theses courses in Captivate 5.5 and they all have the same parameters (it's a series of youtube videos https://www.youtube.com/user/BAEXPERTS). No exercises, no screen recordings, just images, voiceover, and some animation. They always have a similar length and the 20 of them that I created in Captivate 5.5 had around 20MB to 40MB and this one is 105MB. The whole course/video has only 19 slides. In all my other 20 videos/courses, the mp4 file is smaller than the Captivate file.
Also, I am not sure whether this is related, but Captivate 7 crashes many times a day (sometimes every 15 minutes - it looses the ability to paste and when I close the program to restart Captivate 7, it crashes). It seems to be related to my using the clipboard to paste images. Since I use many images in my videos/courses it is too time consuming to save every file. I usually open them directly from an online source in Fireworks and then paste the image into Captivate. I always open it as Administrator because I read that on the forum but it hasn't helped. Captivate 5.5 also lost the ability to paste on a regular basis but it never crashed when I tried to close Captivate as a results of this loss of functionality.
    Thanks, Angela

  • MP4/H264 file sizes very different

I seem to have the problem that when I convert files from AVI to MP4 or H264 they become remain rather large.
I converted a movie of 124 minutes to H264 and the file is 494 MB, while I also have a 154 minute movie which is only 3352 MB. In itunes info it says the 124 minute movie is low complexity h.264 320x240 film at bit rate 64 kbps (total bit rate 539 kbps). It is 494 MB or 3.9 MB/min
the 154 minute movie info gives low complexity MPEG-4 320x240 film at bit rate 63 kbps (total bit rate 313 kbps). It is 352 MB or 2.3 MB/min
I am using total video converter to convert, I leave all the settings at default, I just select H264 and change the dimensions to 320x240. Does anyone have any idea how i can get the h.264 or mpeg-4 filesto be smaller??

H.264 is higher quality than MP4, therefore larger file size.

  • What is the max mp4 file size?

Does anyone know what the max mp4 file size that can be imported into iTunes for sync with ATV is?

I got HandBrake to work. What settings do you recomment for ATV? When I used the Apple Tv setting it worked pretty quick and I could view the file in iTunes, but it would not import into ATV. I got a message saying it was not playable on ATV. The "Normal" setting (h.264) seems to work good. I did a few minutes of a movie and it looks good and works with ATV, but it seems to take a lot longer (hours).
With Handbrake 0.9.1, always select "Apple TV" under the "Presents" column on the right side of the window. When you say it is "not playable on ATV" do you mean by streaming or syncing or both?

We are looking for a software which converts SWF to MP4, we found many software which does the job but issue is file size is not optimize.
We found Adobe captivate 6 which gives optimum quality with good output but thing is we do not have batch process in captivate 6. so we request you to create a plugin or give a best option which have batch render quality and optimize in file size,

Captivate is e-learning development software not a dedicated video convertor, you are better off trying something like Adobe Media Encoder or Super.

  • MP4 & compression & file size, etc.

I know very little about video exporting and compression other than the most basic steps. My project is creating a long list of 4-10 minute tutorial videos for internet streaming. I have produced one video so far, and at 5 minutes, 1280x800, H264 mp4, it's 65mb. That's way too big.
After many hours of research and numerous trial exports, I'm not gaining any ground. I just don't have time to spend days/weeks learning this in depth.
I used a screen capture video program and recorded at the full screen resolution, 1280x800. The initial streaming presentation would be a smaller resolution, but should the viewer choose to go full screen, I would like it to be crisp and clear, so my goal is to maintain 1280x800, or close to it.
Lowering the quality seems to defeat the purpose as the quality is substantially degraded. My question is, what are my reasonable expectations in terms of file size for a 5 minute mp4 video at 1280x800? Is 65mb about right? I have no idea but if I have 30 videos, and 5 minutes is one of the shorter ones, that could be many many gigabytes. Is there something I am missing how to get smaller file sizes?
H264 compression was recommended, and tried out several resolutions, having to calculate different multiples of 1280x800 - it all seems very manual and tedious. I just don't know how to proceed since the first video was just so big... Any guidance is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Actually, 65 MBs is quite a reasonable file size for a 5-minute, 1280x800, H.264/AAC MP4 file. (File Size = Total Duration X Total Data Rate so your data rate is only on the order of 1.7 Mbps which was originally the limit for 640x480 5th generation iPod files.) In order to make the files smaller you will have to either settle for reduced video quality and/or a smaller display size. (You could, for instance, create a 1024x800 anamorphic encode that displays as a 1280x800 file, but this would only reduce the file size by a small amount whereas a 640x400 non-anamorphic file could cut the file size significantly while retaining similar quality in the smaller display. In short, you need to re-evaluate your streaming/fast start requirements. (I.e., I typically use 2 to 4 times your data rate for what I consider "good quality" 720p24 file encodes for viewing on HD capable devices.)
After many hours of research and numerous trial exports, I'm not gaining any ground. I just don't have time to spend days/weeks learning this in depth.
It is unlikely you will be able to further reduce your file size without a loss in video quality and/or a reduction in the file's display dimensions.
I used a screen capture video program and recorded at the full screen resolution, 1280x800. The initial streaming presentation would be a smaller resolution, but should the viewer choose to go full screen, I would like it to be crisp and clear, so my goal is to maintain 1280x800, or close to it.
The only way to reduce file size is to either "throw away" data or use a more efficient, higher compression codec. H.264 is about the most scalable, highly efficient, highest compression capable codec you can use which is why it is used for everything from FaceTime to BD/AVCHD encodings.
"Reasonable epectations" are realative—and may be quite different for each person. Basically, the expectation is reasonable if the file delivers the quality you want at the display dimensions you want in a file size with which you can live. If not, then you have to re-evaluate your "expectations." Further, encoding is driven by the content itself with every file being different and should be treated as such depending on the graphic complexity of the content, the number/type of vector motions involved, ratio of light:dark scenes, display dimensions, etc. There is no "one shoe fits all" here and what is "reasonable" for one file may not be "reasonable" for another. What you are actually missing here is an overall goal strategy.
H264 compression was recommended, and tried out several resolutions, having to calculate different multiples of 1280x800 - it all seems very manual and tedious. I just don't know how to proceed since the first video was just so big... Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
You say you are creating tutorial files for internet streaming. If this is your goal, how do you plan to deliver these files in terms of internet connection speeds? The target speed for internet delivery will determine the data rate limits within which you must work. Once you determine the playback data rate limits for target users, you will know the data rate limits at which to encode your file for playback. In turn, this data rate will determine the combination of display dimensions and level of video quality you will have to accept. At this point the size of individual files is of lessor importance because once the file begins to stream or play in the fast "start mode," the file can continue to play as the data continues to stream or download to the end user's local platform/media player. In fact, at this point you can actually decide if you want to create multiple file versions for users having different target internet connection speeds or just a single file. Frankly, until you are able to answer such questions, there is very little advice that anyone can give you.

  • Compare file size   .mov vs .mp4

I have an iMovie that I exported to .mov with expert settings: 32KHz audio, 24 fps, 480x360 and it gave a file about 300 mb ( a tad over 6 min). I also have some videos from a subscription at Luminous-Landscape that are mp4. As far as I can tell they are the same parameters. BUT, one of them, for example, is 27 min and about 147 mb! Much smaller proprotionally!
I noticed a much smaller bit rate while viewing the longer duration video compared to mine. Something in that? Is it that it is mp4 and mine is mov?
Is there a good place to go to decipher the Expert Settings meanings and practice?
    Thanks...
    Rick

... you haven't told us, which CODEC you used for your export.. (?)
.mov is just a container, a wrapper around mp4, h263, sorenson, h264, mp4.. whatever.. (even mp3, pic, qtvr...)
the container doesn't add that much of data to a file..
24fps is .. 'exotic', when it comes to iMovie, which doesn't support such a framerate, and when it comes to computer display, 24fps again is less optimal .. it is a fps from the film business.. you get much better (=in terms of quality) results, using the original or half of the framerate of your source ...
with all respect, I mostly doubt a 30min video of only 150MB size ... please check the settings again ...
when it comes to small file sizes, I lately stumbled into a nice variation of the h264 codec, have a look on my website:
    http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/apowerfulcodec
and if you prefer mp4, use the free encoder iSquint, esp for lower bitrates, it offers a (much) better pic quality than QT's mpeg4 encoder ... (a few infos on my other site, click here)

  • Joining or merging two movie files

If I want to join or merge two movie files (.m4v) into one, can I use one of the included applications on my iMac (iMovie, QuickTime, etc) or do I need a 3rd party app? If so, could you recommend one please?
    Thanks!

    On a related note-
I have imported my "Das Boot" onto my drive, so I don't have to pull out my CD's. Food for thought before I go on any further - the files show up as ".dvdmedia". Since this version is the uncut 4 hr long version it is on two different CD's which converted into two files. How do I, if possible, make these into one file? I also have and am planning to import "Ben Hur". I tried to use iMovie (I have iLife 09') and it said I needed to "upgrade" to iMovie 3 (no luck with that one).
    Any legal suggestions?

  • Reducing MP4 File Size for online upload

I have a short HD video almost 1 GB in size (impossible to upload online). Is there an easy way to reduce the file size using IMovie or another program that I don't have to go out and buy?

I don't think you'll have too much success with this. Mpegs are already compressed files, so there's no real benefit to trying for further reduction. In some cases using compression software will make the resulting file larger than the original.
There are utilities that can be used to slice up a file into smaller parts that can then be reassembled. For example, Movie Cutter, SplitFuse, Split&Concat, MacAppStuff Pieces are a few. Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Stuffit Deluxe is a commercial product that includes the ability to split and join multiple pieces of a file archive and has the benefit of being available on both Macs and PCs.
You can then split a large file into several smaller files to send via email or to upload to file server sites. Of course the recipient will need a compatible utility to join the pieces.
