MP4 picture lag?

I am using PP CC on Windows 7 to edit AVCHD footage from a Panasonic AC130. I have had some problems with lost audio, so, as an experiment, I rewrapped some AVCHD footage in an MP4 file, using AW Pro. The footage plays back fine in Windows Media Player, but it doesn't import properly into Premiere or Prelude. In both cases, the audio runs about 12 minutes, which is the correct length, but the picture runs about 14 minutes, which is two minutes too long, and it is out of sync with the audio.
Has anyone else come across this sort of problem? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the response. In fact, what you suggest is what I generally do. But I have had occasional problems with lost audio, and I do collaborative work with FCP users. As you probably know, FCP doesn't natively ingest AVCHD.
The re-wrap that I described in my original post has some appeal because it is not a conversion. AW Pro copies H.264 content from an AVCHD wrapper, to an MP4 or MOV wrapper, without a decompress/recompress cycle. It creates theaders, then copies the H.264 content from AVCHD to the new format. File size remains about the same; as a result, it costs nothing in terms of storage or quality.
So, while I would generally agree with the approach you suggest, a rewrap with no generational loss of quality provides significant benefits in my workflow. And that's the reason I'm trying to solve the problem of the picture frame lag.

  • Picture lag

So im watching a you tube video and my internet is just fine and its high speed and im watching a u tube video and the picture lags ! also in the search bar the response from the keys to the cpu to the display is slow as a snail. so slow infact it takes 20 minutes to down load a 112k update for an application !

What would you like to know? That your computer is slow and it's not your internet or that 20 minutes for 112KB is your internet's fault?
I have this computer, it's extremely slow. Running Snow Leopard will probably worsen things.
Also, I'm sure it's your internet's fault for taking such a long time to download such a small file, but that's not always the case. The server in which you're downloading from may be slow.

  • Picture lags behind audio when just watching TV

I just put a machine together with a TV anywhere Master. After many fun hours playing with drivers and PVS versions, reading and searching these forums, It seems to be working great.
Great except one thing, the audio is ahead of the video by about 0.5 seconds. The whole time i was trying buggy software and unstable drivers, this problem was always present.
I'm afraid it might be that the machine is not fast enough. It's a P3 800mhz with 256mb sdram and a geforce3 ti 500. Also, it's running Windows ME, and it needs to stay this way to run other software incompatible with XP.
Any ideas? I've turned up suprisingly little with my searching of these forums and the net in general
I might be able to just use something that could delay the sound for a second, some sort of sound tool for variable delay. Not sure these exist though.
[Update:] I've been experimenting with other TV viewing applications, and the 2 so far i've gotten to work seem to sync fine, but the picture is much more blocky then with MSIPVS.
If the specs for this system are too low, what would you think the minimum CPU/ram I should be using to tune TV is?

Maybe - any chance to check those files on a G4/G5/Intals Mac or a Windows PC? btw. at what speed is your G3 running?

  • MP4 Import Bug?

Are any users of this forum experiencing problems importing MP4 into Premiere Pro CC? I have had problems importing some MP4 files into PP, and on another thread (different subject), one of the responders said he's having similar problems.
Here's the problem: The MP4 imports without issue, but the resulting clip has a bad frame rate. In my case, a clip recorded at 29.97 FPS shows on the timeline as having a frame rate of 23.976 FPS, which makes the video 25% longer than it should be. So, a forty-second clip occupies fifty seconds on the timeline. But the audio for the same clip imports at its correct length--forty seconds. And that means the audio ends ten seconds before the same video.
Here's an example. The Current Time Indicator shows the correct ending point of the clip, and that's where the audio ends. But the video goes on, the result of the incorrect frame rate:
I thought I had a bad MP4, so I tried loading it into Windows Media Player, where it loaded correctly and played fine. Same result in QuickTime for Windows and VLC Media Player--frame rate was correct, and it played without a hitch. I sent the file to buddies who use Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro, and they said the file imported at the correct frame rate and played without a hitch.
The problem doesn't occur with all MP4 files, only certain ones. And it only happens in Adobe programs--Premiere Pro, Prelude, and After Effects.
Has anyone else run into similar problems? Thanks.

"I am testing AWPro to 'rewrap' 29.97 FPS AVCHD footage into MP4 files."
Was your posted file created using AWPro as in your other thread?
The exact origin of your video file is pertinent to this conversation.
    For previous version reference:
CS4 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
CS5 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
CS6 sees your file as 23.976, the audio runs the same length as the video.
I don't have CC to test.
I guess you are still having your "MP4 picture lag" problem
    with files created with AWPro?

  • MP4 lag

All movies encoded with standard mp4 formatting lag in Quicktime, iTunes, and the Apple TV, but I know they all use the same back end so I'm posting here. I know exactly what's causing this lag. The video is playing at 29.97 frames per second, but the audio is going at 30.00 fps (or vise versa, I forget which.) My question is: Is this a Quicktime glitch or an encoder glitch? Happens with both Handbrake and iSquint, but again, they use the same encoder.
I'd like to know whose fault this is so that I can send them a bug report and tell them how to fix it.

The.mp4 and newer .m4v (used by iTunes) are containers and not formats. Its what's inside that gives your machine the "problem".
Depending on the age and speed of your G4 the H.264 video codec is putting too much strain on your CPU. QuickTime "drops" frames during video playback to insure the viewing experience matches the audio portion of the file. This is normal behavior.
Open a file with the QuickTime Player and then open the Movie Inspector window. This window will show the codecs used in the file and will also show the frame rate during playback.
    What does your file say?

  • Picture Tweaks/Calibration for TOSHIBA 32C100U 32" LCD

I just bought and hooked up a 32" LCD TV from Toshiba, model C100U and am looking to get help with calibration tweaks in order to achieve the best picture and performance possible. I'm hoping someone will be able to provide assistance...fingers crossed...

I've noticed that at I see some brief red-hued ghosting/picture lag on occasion in my picture; this has happened both with basic coax cable connection and when watching a DVD. I am a graphic designer with a very sensitive eye for detail, so this bothers me, while others may not even notice it; nevertheless, I'd like to alleviate it if at all possible. Is this normal? What can I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

My parents have a 37-inch Toshiba, I have experienced the same problem when watching movies via the Dell laptop. It happens both in VLC player and Windows Media Player, and I am using a VGA cable to connect to the TV. The problem was still there when we used an S-video cable. It sounds like it might be something about these Toshiba TVs.

  • Insignia 46' sound/pciture lag

    Hello,
I have an Insignia 46' 1080P 120Hz LCD HDTV. First off, I have yet to see anyway possible to change my refresh rate to 120Hz via tv/dvd/computer hookups. But thats not my main issue.
I have my computer, HD terminal, amp and media server all connected to the TV. Except for the computer, no matter which way I connect these devices to the tv, the results is the same. I get some kind of sound/picture lag. I'll try to explain. Take the media server for example, if I connect it to my TV via component or composite, and connect the audio to my amp via optical or coaxial, or connect the audio directly to the TV bypassing the amp, I get the exact same lag. Its like some frames are being skipped and the sound is trying to stay in sync. The sound seems like its in sync at some moments, but does not last.
I've tried all type of connections; HDMI, component, composite... connecting audio to the amp or directly to the TV. No matter what, I get the same type of lag/skipped frames/chopiness... It's very argrivating as I"ve been working on this for many days. I've seen this type of setup at friends houses with no problems. No one has heard of this issue before and neither have I.
I'm left with thinking its the TV that is the problem but I'm not 100% sure. If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening, please let me know.
If you need more info, I'll try to provide as much as possible.
    Thanks

I have exactly the same problem with a TV digital tuner (the kind you use to connect to an analog TV).  After leaving it on for a few hours, the voice and picture loose sinc.  The only way to fix this is to turn off the tuner and turn it on again.
It has to do with the electronics in the tuner and a bug in the software.  This also happens to me with my DVD player.  For very long DVD  movies (like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) the DVD plays fine for the first 1 1/2 hours.  Then the audio goes out of sync with the video.  I press STOP and then PLAY and it is back in sync.
If the TV is always doing this then there is a problem with the TV.

  • Can I see MP4 files in iPad2

I have a new iPad2 and also a new GoPro camara which it records in MP4 format. I can see the movies in my MBP fine but I have tranfer the videos to my iPda2 and it does nothing it only show a black and white MP4 "picture" in iPhoto. Can iPad2 play mp4? and if so how.

There are a wide range of file formats that all claim to be MP4 (MPEG-4).
    The iPad can play:
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Flash video lags when uploaded to Youtube.

    Hi.
I have tried to upload one of my flash videos on youtube, the only problem is that it lags!
The sound is perfect, but the film only shows about 1 frame per second, when it's supposed to be 12 frames per second. This is obviously nothing worth watching when the picture lags as much as it does.
I have uploaded the same video on my facebook profile, and it worked pretty good, but as I already said, it lags when it is on youtube.
I don't have any movieclips in the movie I uploaded to Youtube.
Does it have anything to do with the settings on the movie? I eksported it in to a quiktime film before I uploaded it to youtube. I saw a tutorial where the person exported his flash into quiktime and uploaded it to youtube, and the animations were smooth, but when I do this, it lags.
    Can anybody help me?

I don't see that. To me, it looks the same quality as any YouTube video.
How do most YouTube videos look to you?

  • Quicktime movies playing sound with no picture (only in firefox)

    Hi There,
I'm having a weird issue with quicktime in firefox on apple macs. I'm not really familiar with macs and I was wondering if someone can offer a solution? When I visit the page in firefox on a mac the video plays sound but not the picture. This seems to happen to all firefox browsers that I have tested.
I have a test link here for people to look at. http://www.wellcom.net.au/quicktime.aspx

    To Apple Discussions!
Thank you for providing the link for others to test for you. A got a flash video which I had no problem viewing with sound. The picture did take a few seconds to appear. However, the sound came in right away. Here is the direct video link: http://www.wellcom.net.au/images/movingimages/BookCity.mp4
Picture & sound was instant from the .mp4 link.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software, repair permissions & restart your computer.
If the above does not work, then please advise which version of FireFox you are using?

  • MPEG4 video from imovie is sluggish and audio out of sync

    Hi y'all,
I am new to this. So I need some hand holding here. I am working with video that was exported in MPEG4 video from imovie on a mac.
The Camera I used is a Sony FX7 HD camera with SD tape.
So Now I am trying to edit the video using Premiere Pro CS3 creative suite.
Import into CS3 is fine. Playing the imported video in the source monitor is fine as well. All looks well.
However, here are the challenges I am having:
    1. When I try to play it in the Program monitor its very sluggish. Audio plays fine but picture lags behind.
    2. And once I edit the the video and try to export it as flash video or as a windows media, the video and audio are out of sync.
The video is choppy as well.
Details: source video is 720x480 and trying to export to 320x240
    My project details are:
    DV-NTSC standard 48khz
    Video is 10 min long

OK, not my choice of workflows, but... I assume that the MP4's are H.264 encoded. There are many of these. Three common ones are Lead, MainConcept and Apple. Some find that one works better than the others. These are not the ONLY versions, but are common. You might want to explore others, depending on which one you have installed. G-Spot can tell you which you have.
Next, you can Render your Timeline, to get things as smooth as possible.
Note that the MP4 files are heavily compressed already. Quality has been lost, and there is nothing that can be done about that. When you Export to, say DVD, you will recompress that material, and loose even more.
In the future, have your Mac-person do the Capture to .MOV [Animation CODEC]. Or, do it yourself to DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio.
Not sure of any other ways to get the MP4's playing more smoothly. Much will depend on both your CPU and on your system's I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type and how they are utilized.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements 10 slow on Mac

    Hi,
I installed Premiere Elements 10 on a brand new computer, but it runs extremely slow.
Even just playing one short 30 second clip (un-edited, the original file) causes lagging.
I made sure that the project is up to par with the camera settings and that there are no red lines above the timeline.
    These are my computer specs:
    MacBook Air
Processor  1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 5000
    Software  OS X 10.9.3 (13D65)
As I said, it is brand new so I don't have almost anything on it but PE10 and the files I need to edit for work, so I don't think it should be a space issue.
I'm not much of a computer wiz, so I might be missing on some important info I need to share.
Please let me know if you need to know anything else.
I really appreciate the help and sorry for the inconvenience, but I couldn't find a solution anywhere else on-line.
    Thank you!

    S
Thanks for checking out the jpg and other video source Timeline performance. Enough of that. I think the results are pointing us specifically to the Panasonic footage.
Based on online description of your Panasonic recordings, I assumed that you were putting AVCHD.mp4 1080 50i on your Premiere Elements Timeline. In your last post your wrote...
I only have one other source, but it's the same type of file (.mov)
That would mean to me that you do not have .mp4 files but rather .mov files from the Panasonic. Could you double check that point - .mp4 or .mov? Under ordinary conditions one would expect AVCHD.mp4 and AVCHD.mov to be compatible with Premiere Elements with QuickTime installed on the same computer with Premiere Elements.
    Right now we have
    jpg, OK
    another .mov source, OK
Let us try this for troubleshooting purposes only....take what your source video AVCHD.mov or AVCHD.mp4 and put it through the HandBrake program.
    http://handbrake.fr/
This is going to be only a quick test. We can go back and fine tune settings later if necessary.
Open HandBrake to its Main Workspace
    Source/Open File
Where it says Chapters, I typically set that to Seconds.
Destination - Browse to and set the hard drive save location for the HandBrake export
    Output Settings = Container Mp4
Picture Tab (leave settings as is)
    Video Tab
    Video Codec = H.264 (x264)
    Framerate = 25
    and then
    dot "Constant Framerate"
Hit the Start button at the top left of the workspace
    and then
Wait for Queue Finished to be displayed in the progress bar at the bottom
    left of the workspace.
The goal is to determine if you can work with this HandBrake export better than you can with the
    original Panasonic file.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.

  • Audio out of sync after pausing video

I have recently bought an Apple TV and the first thing I did was to update it with the latest firmware. I synced the Apple TV with my PC's library. When I watch my videos they run okay... until I hit the pause button.
Every time I pause a video the picture lags by a few seconds behind the audio. The same issue occurs if I try to restart the movie and fast forward it to where I reached. It's frustrating and I couldn't find a solution for it. The only thing available to me, it seems is to watch the video again from the start.
These are home movies that have been encoded to MP4 on my PC using Format Factory. Is there a way to get rid of the lags, perhaps a better encoding software?

Could be the encoding. Never heard of that software.
You could possibly convert the files in iTunes by right clicking and choosing conversion for AppleTv option but that takes time and will only work for things iTunes can play natively. There may be better options but MPEGStreamclip is a versatile free video converter as I believe is the latest version of the Handbrake utility.

  • Sony VG-10 - Premiere CS6 does NOT seem to like it

Been working with CS6 for a while now and footage from both a Sony NX5U and an AX2000. Absolutely NO issues whatsoever. But I recently got a VG-10 as I had been doing some stuff with my Canon 7D and LOVE the DLSR look. The VG10 footage is gorgeous but I've run into an issue; Premiere does NOT seem to like the m2ts files from the VG10 (NO ISSUES WITH M2TS FROM OTHER CAMERAS). I can edit it for a little while, maybe half hour, then the timeline starts freezing. To be more accurate, the VIDEO freezes. Sound plays fine but the picture lags. Takes a while to refresh. I thought it might be the computer so I tried it on my other edit suite and got the same thing. The only solution I've found is to convert the VG10 footage to MP4 files and then there's no problems but this is a pain in the ***.
Anyone had this issue and found a better solution than converting all the VG10 footage
BTW the computer are both Win7 64 bit, both have 24GB Corsair memory and GeForce GTX260 video cards.

That's a common misconception that one needs to "fix" the clips BEFORE importing to Premiere. Actually does more harm than good for some users.
I rented an AX-2000 a couple weeks ago to shoot 6 dance recitals of 2.5 hours each. To get the clips into the CS6 system, I simply copied the entire contents of each SDHC card to unique folders on my video hard drive, then used MEDIA BROWSER in Premiere CS6 to import. Media Browser simply showed me ONE long clip in the bin and when I moved it to the timeline, again one long seamless clip, no glitches at the "invisible" seams or anything. Nothing could be simpler. Keeps perfect sync with the other camera, which was recorded as ProRes using Ninja 2.
That's the beauty of Media Browser, that it looks at the metadata and knows how to properly handle spanned clips properly behind the scenes, so that you don't have to worry or do extra work. Please try this workflow and see if it fixes the issue.
    Thanks
