MP4 to AVI

Does anyone know of a free program with no watermarks or whatever added that would convert an mp4 to an AVI file?. Or maybe an mp4 to something else, than to an AVI, I'd really appreciate it

Assuming you're on OS X, try ffmpegX:

You may need a few other files, but that site will explain everything for ya. There might be others out there, but I've been using this one, and it works just fine.

How do I convert a shockwave object file into a mp4 or avi video?  Do you know of any software that converts that type of file?

The M4V format is a video file format developed by Apple and is very close to the MP4 format. The differences are the optional Apple's DRM copyright protection, and the treatment of AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio which is not standardized for the MP4 container.
If your M4V video is not unprotected M4V files and without AC3 audio. It may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ".m4v" to "mp4".
So you can try to change the file extension and check if it works. If it doesn't work, try Leawo video converter(for windows or mac) and convert m4v to mp4 format.

  • Can't import .mp4 or .avi files

I am unable to import .mp4 or .avi files into iMovie. I have iMovie3.0.3. I am able to import .mov files, but not the two listed above. Is this because i have an older version of iMovie or is it just not possible. I am new to using iMovie, but do understand something. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I am sure I didn't get iMovie 4, my powerbook is over 2 years old.

I figured it was just because I have an older version. I've known that I can convert the files in QT Pro, I just do not own it.
I'm probably going to end up getting iLive 05.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to split Large mp4 and AVI video files to smaller scenes

    Hi All
I’ve been looking into how to cut-up large files ready for import into CS4. So far all I can find are the usual suspects that only lets you cut a section from a file. Dose anyone use any software that enables you to split a large video file (MP4, AVI and so on) into say 20 sections all in one hit?
I do a lot of HD onboard cams, so the video is set to fire and only shut off when the run has finished. I then end up with about 60 percent of the file (in diferent parts) I need to trash.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated indeed!

  • MP4 or AVI

    Hi All
Am sure there will be some intelligent people out there, so a quick opinion from those who know
Can someone advise if mp4 is better than avi, or vice versa.  From what I have gathered some say AVI has better quality then MP4.
So just wondered if anyone has an opinion into which format is better for watching HD films on a 32 or 40 inch samsung tv.  File size is not an issue, as long as the quality is there for the tv size
    thanks in advance people

AVI comes in many, many flavors.....which are you considering, exactly?
BTW, I would use MP4 over any AVI (codec).

  • Trying to play Mp4 and Avi on N900

I have converted some DVDs to MP4 using Handbrake and transferred them to my N900 but they won't play. the message says the format isn't supported. But I'm sure MP4s are supported.
I have also tried to copy oves some AVI files and again they won't play, this time the message says the audio won't play.
    Can anyone help me here?
    I would be most grateful.

@matthew - lol, i received a message from a moderator saying that my post was a 'bad post' because it featured 'advertising'. two things wrong with this.
    1. how is it a bad post if it is a valid solution?
    2. its a freeware program... with no insoftware advertising (aside from asking if you want to try their toolbar), so theres no profit to be made. i dont work for dvdvideosoft, otherwise there would be a dedicated n900 video converter instead of me editing scripts originally designed for iphone... so why am i being pinned for advertising? its not my fault nokia do not have their own program for encoding videos to the n900's resolution... and im providing a solution that takes care of this...
ohhhh how i feel your pain.

  • Mocha AE failed to open .mp4 and .avi

    Hallo,
I used usually mocha and it worked perfekt, but today I was trying import a video and it say "failed to open file ***.avi: currupt or in unsupported format" the same message it say with mp4 format.
What can I do? avi and mp4 formats are support formats.
I'm using Format Factory 3.2.1., Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, AAE CC lastest version.
    Thank you.

Not all video formats are currently supported by mocha AE. Imagineer is working to resolve this, but currently if you clip does not open in mocha AE, we recomend transcoding it to another format. This tech note may help: http://www.imagineersystems.com/support/Documentation/supported-file-formats#idp19920
What to Do if mocha AE Does Not Support Your Footage
In the rare event that you are working in a format that mocha doesn't support, we recommend converting the footage to an image sequence.
If you are just tracking, you can use any compressed format such as a JPG sequence and then use your original footage when you apply the data.  If you are going to be doing rendering, such as using Mocha Pro's remove or insert modules, then we recommend converting to a DPX or TIFF sequence.
Make sure of the following when converting to an image sequence:
The frame rate, aspect ratio and dimensions are the same as the original footage.
If you are creating proxy footage, make sure the aspect ratio and frame rate are the same.
If you are using a particular bit depth, make sure you convert to the same depth if you are using the footage for rendering inside mocha
If using compressed footage, don't set the compression too low, as this will create artifacts that may hinder tracking and roto.
Make sure mocha supports the sequence you are converting to!
If you would prefer to convert to a movie clip format then we recommend a standard format that QuickTime would understand, such as Animation. If you are working on OSX, ProRes can also be a good alternative.

  • Missing files (B to I) and can't play files MKV, MP4, or AVI

I just purchased a brand new WD media centre, and it keeps hiding files between B and I.  I've reset it as per the instructions, but I have to reset it every single time I use it, which is driving me insane.  I've stopped connecting to the network now as adding in the password two or three times a day is infuriating. Tonight it's stopped playing AVI, MKV, or MP4 files, so I have a brand new, $200 lump of useless plastic. What can I do with this, other than set it on fire?

  • Itunes / Front Row mp4 and avi and xvid

    Hello.
I have started collecting and moving my videos to my macbook.
From my linux/windows days I have avi xvid/divx files.
I have divx player installed on my mac and those files play fine if I click on them.
They also will play if I put them in my movie folder and use front row.
If I try to move avi and xvid to itunes. They will not import.
I assume this is the case becuase itunes is only allowing files into itunes lib that will sync and play on a vid ipod?
However with the move to appleTV and such there are those that are going to want a HQ video that maynot sync on ipod.
Basicly, I just need to know what format I need to start experimenting as far as size/quality ratio so that I can move my vids to that format.
    Thanks for your help.

Close... Quicktime has to be able to support the formats for them to be accepted into iTunes.

  • How to create common normal format video file in captivate 5 - either FLV or MP4 or AVI?

I am still using Captivate 5. After reinstall on to new machine, update always fail. click help, it direct to 404 page not found.
I am not able to generate video in common format.
Using F4V on You tube, but the screen was wither stuck half way or run too fast compare to speech.
    Anyone can help, please.

You can usually get Captivate updates from Adobe's site:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html
But that does not list any CP5 updates, so those may just not be available anymore...
    Try this?
    Adobe Captivate 5.0 patch
Otherwise, what happens specifically when you try to publish to a video? The video output publishes properly but doesn't seem to play back properly?
It may be time to just upgrade Captivate - especially to output to MP4 directly.

  • Viewing mov, avi, and mp4 files in photoshop 12

How can I view mov, mp4, and avi files in Photoshop 12?

thanks for your reply Tom. the video is from cameras, video cameras, vhs tapes, and mini dvds. everything looks much worse after import into fcpx;  i haven't imported hd files. The specs. are, everything gets blurry and color pales.  i just tried importing four more files (and optimized), all mov, (no avi or mp4), and there is no change in quality. I'm comparing the video in fcpx to the same video before it was imported. i've compared it side by side to the files being played in quicktime, real player, idvd, and el gato eye tv (third party video capture software). everything is crisp and color is vibrant before going into fcpx.

  • WMV-to-avi/mp4/3gp converter on the phone?

I am looking for a Symbian converter that willl turn WMV files into S60v3 playable files, e.g. 3gp, mp4 or avi.
What I have found is a whole range of apps which convert on the pc and then you transfer the file to the phone, but what I would need is a converter in the phone.
    Is there anything like that?

    Hi rolanda:
be sure to understand that .avi files are just containers and not just one type of file. Please read what Dan Slagle says here and be certain to click on to all of his links:
