MP530 Wireless Printing Read Failure?

For years I have been printing from my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8) wirelessly to my Canon MP530.  Now suddenly I get the following error message - MP530 Unable to open printer (read failure)!  I tried resetting the printer but that didn't work.  I cabled the printer directly to my computer and was able to print using the MP530-1 configuration that came up.  When I switched back to wireless I had to reset the printer and once again got the same error message.  What could have happened to my printer connection??

First try rebooting your moden and router, then try going to system preferences>print and delete both printers from your profile, then re-add  the Cannon M530 and make it your default printer.

I downloaded the new Lion software recently and since doing so I have not been able to print. When I print to my Canon MX700 it come up with :Unable to open printer (read failure)!
I have reset as I found thru other posts, downloaded th current driver/software info from the printer website and connected the mac book pro directly to the usb port versus thru my airport which has worked great for many years. What is it with this new lion software and printing??

I, too am having problems printing after updating to 10.6.8. I have a wireless HP D110 that works fine but lost connectivity to my Epson Stylus Pro7600. I used to get an error message or that plotter is busy, so I followed instructions to remove printer and reinstall...Now my iMac can't find the driver even though I've reinstalled it. Anyone out there have any luck?

  • Printer error :Unable to open printer (read failure)!

I always could normally print anything via my printer Canon MP260. This printer is connected to the Apple Time Capsule. I print wireless from the imac. Since yesterday it will not print anymore and I get the following error message: Unable to open printer (read failure)!
I hope someone can help me

Try a reset of the printing system. This will require you to add the printer queue again but you will not need to run the driver installation again.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac

A wireless printer connects to the network just like your computer, or iPhone/iPad, etc. connects using wireless.
The printer must be set up intially to scan to "find" available wireless networks, then your specific wireless network needs to be selected. Then the password for the network needs to be entered.
Once the printer is configured to join the network, it is always connected to the network. No further configuration is required.

  • Continued wireless printing failure

I have struggled for weeks to get my network printing wirelessly.
I have a Macbook Pro and an iMac, both on Mountain Lion.
I can get my Epson PX710W to print with USB but not wirelessly.
I can ping the router from both Macs. I cannot ping Mac to Mac. I cannot ping the printer from either Mac.
The Macs have IP Addresses 192.168.1.2  and 192.168.1.5, the priner is 192.168.1.7.
I have downloaded the latest printer driver and installed it on both Macs, but don't know where to find it. This is a mystery and may be significant?
I cannot add the printer from the Print and Scan page except as a USB kind.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thank you.
    John

I am unable to add the wireless printer. The printer will work with a USB cable only.
2 different contacts at the Epson Online Chat have quoted 2 different driver versions.
Opening printer utility 3 in applications, shows 6.61 as the version.
I have also downloaded and installed a 2.12 version, which was also given to me as the version to use.
However, I am unable to add a printer to both my MacBook and an iMac, both on Mountain Lion.  Nor can one mac ping the other mac.  Nor can either mac ping the printer.  Both macs can ping the router.
Yes, I was searching in the user library for the driver.  I am not able to find the Mountain Lion Library where the system folder is.

  • Wireless printing failure...

I have an old MBP running OSX 10.6.8.  Using a Canon MX870.  Previously was able to print wirelessly from my MBP and iPhone flawlessly.  The last few months it has been more and more unstable to the point that now I can't print wirelessly at all.  Prints fine when plugged into the usb port.
I recently changed the firmware on my Time Capsule and got some improvements in overall stability and reliablitiy with wifi.  Hoped this issue would get better but no such luck.
I have removed all printers, changed the network, added the printer to the network, added the printer to the MBP.  Then when I print it acts like it will work.  The computer says it is printing.  The printer screen says it is printing.  It does that for about a minute, maybe two, then I get this:
That's basically what it has done all along since it started failing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you already have a printer, you can probable use a program like, printopia to let your mac share your printer with the iOS device like your iPad. The catch being your computer has to be on, and not asleep, for the printer to work with your iPad.
If you need a printer that is airprint ready, you can find a list on AirPrint, wireless printing straight from your iPad. Check out the bottom of the page where it says works with airprint enabled printers. There are even links on the page so you can buy the printers right from Apple's website.

  • Wireless Print failure with 2575/Vista

I am trying to get my wife;s laptop to print through wireless to a 2575.
    Network
Netgear 3300 router feeding Cisco swith
    MAchines
    HP desktop XP  - ethernet
    Linux desktop - ethernet
    Dell laptop Linux - wireless
    HP DVR9000 laptop - wireless
    Printers
HP Laserjet 4 -Netgear pc100 print server ( I know it is old, but it keeps on working)
Samsung CLP Color Laser - ethernet
    HP 2575 - ethernet
All machines except the HP9000 can print fine to the 2575 including the Linux wireless laptop. All other functions of the 2575 work ok on the HP9000; scanning, scan to, copying from SD, etc. The HP9000 can print to either of the other 2 printers and also the HP 8000 at her office.
Any print job sent to the 2575 from the HP9000 just goes into the spool until it finally errors. I downloaded/installed the Vista install software and the connection patch for Vista from the HP support site.  No luck.
Bad as I hated to, I even used MS Fixit to try to resolve this. Just don't know where to go from here. I am not real great with MS trouble shooting anyway.
Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated, as my wife want's to  print her pictures.

Try installing a wireless print server.

  • Setting up wireless printer with Time Capsule

I've just replaced my original Time Capsule after it had a terminal power failure.
The replacement Time Capsule is working okay as a backup and I have set up my wireless network again, but now I can't print using my Canon MX860 printer, which had been working well with my original Time Capsule and wireless network.
Any advice how I can fix this issue would be much appreciated - thanks.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
Your post did not tell us what you may have already tried, whether you are trying to connect the printer using wireless only, or whether it will be connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
If you are trying to connect using wireless, you'll need to "re-install" the printer again using Canon's setup utility just like you did the first time.
Likewise, if you are using USB to connect, you'll need to open System Preferences on your Mac and click Print & Fax to install the printer.

Up photos mart c7100 series wireless printer does not show up as a printer. Anyone found a fix for for use with ipad3?

It sounds like the features are working through the USB connection rather than the wireless connection since it is still not seeing the networks.
Everything points to a hardware failure since the steps provided through the private message did not work and the wireless test showed it had failed.  Sorry.
You do have some options at this point.
If it is under warranty, either standard or extended, you can contact HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it serviced under warranty.
If it is out of warranty, you can still contact HP support to find out all the options and the cost of each option.  However, it is my opinion that this money would be better spend being applied towards a new printer.

  • Has anyone fixed wireless printing to HP LaserJet 1015 via AEBS Snow

    Dear All
I've searched the forums, read numerous posts by HP Mac Architect (thanks BTW for your amazing efforts), tried various things, and still can't get wireless printing back on my HP LaserJet 1015.
    My set up is:
Intel Core Duo 20" iMac, 10.6.1, running latest version 2.2 HP drivers (383Mb download)
Airport Extreme Base Station Snow, running firmware 5.7
HP LaserJet 1015 connected to the USB port of AEBS
Worked in 10.5.8. Absolutely nothing in 10.6.1 - not an initial page, nothing after resets or restarts, nothing. It has also scuppered wireless printing to the 1015 from another iMac on the network running Leopard 10.5.8.
    I have tried the following:
    1) Usual stuff - restart AEBS, restart computer, switch off printer, unplug AEBS 30 seconds, reconnect printer
    2) Deleting all HP stuff from Library/Printers, Library/Printers/PPDS/Contents/Resources, System/Library/Extensions, restarting, reinstalling HP drivers version 2.2, re-adding printer
    3) Add the printer via Bonjour, using plain driver, Gutenprint driver
    4) Add the printer via IP printing, HP JetDirect - Socket, using address of base station +/- the port, using either plain driver or Gutenprint driver
    5) Tried the ipstat stuff in the terminal to get CUPS to accept the URI
    6) Tried downgrading firmware of AEBS to 5.6 then 30s off, then back to 5.7, 30s off, then re-add the printer
    The error messages I get:
    Initially 'communication failure'
Then 'client-error-not-possible' from the other iMac
Now mainly 'unable to open device (read failure)'
I have yet to try the HPIJS drivers but before I do so has anyone else had any success or tried any other things I've not mentioned?
Do I need to wait till 10.6.2 or buy a new N base station or buy a new printer or what?
    Thanks in advance

    mwong,
At the moment, there is no way I know of to get the LaserJet 1015 printing through the USB port any Airport base station that isn't running a firmware version of 7.4.2 (ie an 802.11N compatible Airport). Some people have had some luck on newer G's running 6.3, but I haven't seen anyone report success with 5.7 yet. At the moment, there is nothing we can do from our end to fix the issue.
    Just trying to help.

  • Slow wireless printing with Airport Express

I have a Canon MP530 printer hooked up to an Airport Express for wireless printing. My wireless internet network is through an Airport Extreme. The only thing hooked into the Express is the printer, and it works but is extremely slow. It can take an hour to print one 15 page document. Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm not sure I understand your question, or at least I don't know how to tell connection speed with the utility. The express is set up as an extension to my current wireless network, although I'm only using it for printing.
I had a similar experience with a hard drive wirelessly connected to the Extreme - data transfer was ridiculously slow. Is this something to be expected with wireless connectivity?

  • "Unable to open device (read failure)!" message with Samsung

I have a Samsung ML-2510 (fairly new printer) plugged into my Airport Extreme (the latest -g version before the new -n version) and seem to be having problems with printing. After powering up the Airport, the computer will allow one job to print. After that, the print status window gets to "processing job, 7%" then shows "Unable to open device (read failure)!". The only solution to get it printing again is to reset the Airport.
I've tried reinstalling the driver from Samsung.com, changing some wireless settings on the airport, restarting the computer (and printer), and even changing the USB cable. None of the above has worked.
    Any solutions?

I had a similar issue with a ML-2010 after upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 but using a Linksys wireless router rather than Airports. The steps below worked for me so I hope these are of some help to you as well. I stumbled across these in the Airport for Windows forum.
    1. Opened print/fax pref
    2. Went to + (add printer)
    3. Went to IP and selected HP Jetdirect (not IPP, not LDP)
    4. Determined the IP address for my Belkin wired print server (I determined this from looking in the Windows printer setup on my Windows laptop that printed through the print server to the ML-2010 with no problems. Initially I wasn't sure if the problem was with the print server, the printer or OS 10.5)
    5. Typed the IP address in "Address" back in Fax/print.
    6. Left the "Name" as it appeared.
    7. Print Driver I used was ML-2010 (look in M's), not any Samsung listed driver (in the S's).
    8. I didn't have to reboot anything but I've seen reports that some people had to power cycle their print server and sometimes the printer as well.
    I hope this helps.

  • HH5 and Wireless Printer

Just had my HH5 delivered, all up and running in terms of the access to the web, email client, and wireless devices such as TV and Ipads etc but I cannot get my wireless printer to work.
The printer can see and link to the hub, the printer shows up in the printer section of the network on the BB Desktop help screen, but I can't seem to see the printer in the Wireless device list under the Hub admin application.
I have been trying all sorts of people to help who are telling me all sorts of issues that I have done and still no success, I don't particularly want to pay £30 for a "tech expect" to show me a box that I haven't ticked or unticked or something like this which really should only be a 2 minute fix.
My HH4 and printe worked fine. ANy ideas anyone?

It is linking to a 169.254....... Ip address, the printer seems to be fine in connecting to the actual hub, just the bit after that doesn't seem to work.
I will try your suggestions when I get home this evening and let you know how I get on, many thanks
    Ben
That is not a valid home hub address, its a default local address, issued when the printer cannot get a valid IP address from the home hub, due to a connection failure.
It will not work with this configuaration.
Did you delete the old wireless connection from the printers setup, and then rescanned for the new hub, and entered the new wireless key?

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.
