MPB 17" Student backpack

Ok, I just got my MBP 17" and I leave for college in August. I need a laptop backpack. But, I need one that lets me carry a couple books as well. I've looked on the site and a couple reviews say most of them are hard to fit the MBP in without pulling the backpack around it leaving a huge bulge. anyone have experience and know a good one for a student?

try this. I have this backpack and I can fit a lot of books in the main and secondary compartments. Very durable but I also suggest getting a neoprene case for your laptop to compliment the backpack and for better protection.

  • Can't get the new for loop to work

    public class newforloop
    public static void main(String args[])
    String[]Student={"backpack", "id", "pencil"};
    String word="";
    for(String i:Student)//I get an error here
         if(i.equals("pencil"))
              word=i;
    System.out.println(word);
    I tried doing this at school and it worked but when I go home to fiddle around with it I get an error. I asked my friend and he said to update JAVA so I asked him which one do I download and he wasn't sure because download like everything. So my question is, what do i download? I see a whole bunch of things but I'm not really sure, and I don't want to download each and everyone one of those.
    Im using JCreator.

    I believe the "For every" loop was implemented in Java 5.0 .. so you probably have Java 5 on the school computer, but not on your home computer. Just download the Java 5 JDK from the downloads section.

  • Computer Science Student - MPB 13" i5 or i7?

    I will be starting the first year of a 4 year Computer Science course in September and wanted to know which MacBook Pro 13" model would be best for me, the i5 or the i7?
    Considering my CS course is 4 years, would the i7 processer model with the 8GB RAM and 750GB HDD be worth the extra £214 to me in the coming years, or do you think that the base i5 model would be just as good?
    Another reason why I am considering the i7 model is in the event that I might run another OS on my MBP, using either a virtual machine or Boot Camp and I thought that the extra CPU power may come in handy.
    Anyway, given my situation what would you recommend I buy?
    Many thanks

    go with the baseline i5 and spend the extra cash and upgrade to 16GB via third party - using RAM from either Crucial, Corsair or Mushkin.....
    the i5 will basically do what the i7 13 inch Macbook will do since they're still both dual core....
    it is however, worth spending the extra cash for the i7 13 inch since you're getting a faster processor - more RAM and a larger hard drive.

  • Has any student been told that there display was damaged due to a bookbag?

    To all,
    I have read posts about the Apple Store telling customers that the white spots on the display are due to pressure points from books in bookbags. My bookbag is designed to cushion and protect a laptop and I never overload it. I recently took my PowerBook G4 to the Apple Store in Oak Brook, IL and was told that the problem was caused by me overloading my backpack and the pressure on the screen caused the marks. I care for my PowerBook like it was a new car. I use it religiously in all of my classes. I don't see how this could have been something I did considering the number of posts on this issue. Also, is it fair to say that 20 days is kind of a long time for a student to wait for a repair job when they are so dependent on their PowerBook in every class?
    The marks resemble the 15" model defects perfectly. I never had the chance to mention that the marks began showing up before I started school. The seem to originate from the Apple logo that lights up in the middle of the screen and spread outward. Curiously, the Apple store representative said that they would fix it, this time. So I am sending it in over break. We'll see how long it takes them to resolve this issue, and hopefully it won't come back with any other defects. I'll keep this forum updated.

    If you feel that you have adequate clearance and the notebook is not being pressed against in the bag, then I would advise you to contact AppleCare and have them assess it. A good bench tech will know the difference between a defective LCD panel or if it has been pressed against.
    When I was doing repair for (large, worldwide computer retailer), I would see this with other laptops as well--particularly student notebooks.
    Routinely, I would see laptops where the white spots are directly beneath cable linkages and/or clips in the display lid. Under normal usage, these linkages would not be touching the LCD panel, but under light-to-moderate pressure caused by books or other things in the bag, it would cause the cables to press up against the LCD and cause pressure points (aka. white spots).
    I'm assuming Apple uses the same practice in determining whether or not the issue is manufacturing defect or the fault of the consumer.
    What I saw most often is people would put their laptop in a bag and when it is picked up via the handles, the sides will put some measure of pressure on what is inside the bag. If you have the pockets filled with accessories, cables, adapters, etc., then those will also be pressing against the notebook as well. Take all this into consideration when also laying the notebook (in it's bag) on it's side, and gravity does the rest. How you can test this theory is by opening the top of the bag and putting your hand in the bag--feel the pressure being pushed against the sides of the notebook from just picking it up. I'd usually recommend them to get a bag w/ some "play" inside to give the notebook some breathing room when it's being transported.
    I personally had a white-spot issue w/ my 12" Rev. B and had no problems w/ getting it replaced by Apple. The white spot (small cloud) formed 1/2" below, right-center, of the Apple insignia. I sent it in via AppleCare and received it back within a few days with a replacement LCD panel.

  • Trying to export open badge from smithsonian to backpack

    The continuing education class I am teaching starts on Monday, and I can't get the badge I earned out of Smithsonianquests.org into my Backpack (which means I can't tell my students how to do it either). I see no mechanism on their site...is there some way I can Hoover it into my Backpack from Modzilla?
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks! I have contacted them, and I am wondering about the ability to move badges into backpack from the Mozilla end...to copy them into backpack from another site using the Mozilla interface if the host site's export capabilities are not working for me...

  • How do help my students log into their persona accounts when they receive the error message "Internal Server Error?"

    2 students received this error message when they are trying to connect their forallbadges.com accounts to their openbadges accounts. After receiving this error message during our class time, I wasn't even able to log in to their persona accounts. When I enter their email and password info, I then click Sign In but nothing happens. I'm kept on the same page.
    We are using MacBooks running Lion. This is the case in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Thanks for any help you can provide. Debbie Blair

    Hi there. I just tried connecting to open badges backpack through forallbadges using a student account that was receiving an internal error message. There was no change. The student account is still receiving the same error message. I've attached a screen shot of the error message.
    There were also a few students that never received a verification email from persona after they created an account through forallbadges. It looks like the accounts are receiving an email that weren't receiving them before. I tried to create a persona account with a student that hadn't received a verification email and now she did! Everything then worked perfectly! I guess the programming update fixed that problem.

  • MPB gets very hot while in sleep mode and won't come back on

    I've had this happen to me twice now, and I'm not sure what's causing it. Here's what happens.
    I put the MPB into sleep mode, put it in my backpack, and when I open it a couple hours later, the machine is very hot to the touch and the fan is whirring away. On opening the lid, the display will not come back and the only way to fix it is a hard restart.
    I checked the battery indicator on the side, and surprisingly, it had 3-4 green dots, so it had plenty of power.
    The only common denominator I can come up with is that both times this has happened I had been using Fusion 2.01 during the day, but had closed out of it before putting the computer to sleep.
    Any input would be welcome!

    OK, we are clearly on the same page. We can now exclude (in all probability -- see below)) the lid coming open.
    BocaBoy wrote:
    Graham, thanks for the response. Since this happened the first time, I've been very careful about making sure the lid is closed and that the Apple light is out. I have seen the light go out, come back on a few seconds later, then go back out again.
    Pulsating. A one-second on/off display of that light?
    Yes, I'm referring to VMWare Fusion 2.01. This problem only seems to occur when, during the day, I have been in Fusion running my Boot Camp partition as a VM. I want to stress the fact that I close out of Fusion before I put the computer to sleep. I agree that there is something that Fusion is doing to the display adapter that may be causing this problem. The argument against that is that it isn't consistent. There are times I've used Fusion and successfully put the computer to sleep.
    OK, so then if this works sometimes, what is different about these times. When you use the Windows software (or even the Mac software come to that -- there could be a conflict) is there any software that may still be trying to access the internet or other processes (in my earlier reply I mentioned iStumbler -- a network utility -- that caused me some slight annoyance until I realised what was going on).
    The only other thing I can think of is that if my car goes over a bump that the lid is bouncing opening slightly, causing it to flick on from sleep mode, then go back into sleep. The fit, however, is tight and secure in my pack, so I'm really skeptical of that explanation.
    Agree. Although it should not be excluded 100% until proven. Keep an open mind. I take mine on Bangkok buses and believe me, they bounce. I have never had my MBP come on.
    No I haven't done any "maintenance" except being manic about doing a SuperDuper backup once a week along with Time Machine. What do you suggest?
    Glad to hear about the TM: I wish more would back up.
    I think if this were me (it has been) and I were having to do a forced power off, then my first reaction would be to try a safe boot; and then to boot up again. That at least would deal with any stray temp files and/or processes that were cut short. If this happens too often, I would be looking to stronger utilities, more to be on the safe side than to make repairs.
    I would also be looking in the Console: a check of the times between when you sent it off to sleep and the time you found it at work, might show what is waking it up. Also, when you do find it running (and can get in) see which processes are active at that time. If you cannot, then the Console is your only resource, methinks.

  • Good Backpack for protecting MBpro?

    I guys. I have taken advantage on the release of the c2duo and picked up a cduo mb pro for a hefty discount. I am currently a student and I am looking for something to protect my macbook pro since it will be attached to me at all times. I do not need a huge backpack. Just enough to hold the computer, a book and some cable. I am looking for something kinda stylish. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in Advance!

    I've had a Brenthaven backpack for years now and can't imagine a much better bag. It has a secondary sleeve that acts as a carrying case - which can also velcro right into the backpack very securly.
    I think you can find them at Apple stores...

  • Comparison between standard MPB 15" and Retina MBP 15"

    Hi to everyone!
    I'm about to replace my 2007 MBP with a new one! I want an advice about which one to choose between the standard MBP 15" with some optional or the stock MPB Retina 15". I've a budget of 2000 US$ that is enough to purchase both with the educational discount that I can ask because I'm a student.
    In the table I've written all the specs of both the MPBs.
    standard MBP 15"
    MBP Retina 15"
    optional 2,6 GHz i7 quad core processor and 1GB ddr5 geforce 650M
    stock 2,4 GHz i7 quad core processor and 1GB ddr5 geforce 650M
    optional 8GB of RAM
    stock 8GB of RAM
    optional hi-res antiglare display (1680X1050)
    stock Retina display
    stock 500 GB HD
    stock 256 GB SSD
    weight: 2,56kg; possibility to replace RAM and HD (by myself)
    weight: 2,02kg; RAM and HD are welded to the mainboard
    dvd reader/writer
    no dvd reader/writer
    price: 1999 US$ (with edu discount)
    price: 1999 US$ (with edu discount)
    by the fact both cost me the same, I'm a bit unsure on which one to buy!
    which one has the best performances? which one has the best value for money? for what regards working with windows on bootcamp, is the retina display suited for the job? what I mean is if windows apps do properly support a so high resolution (I work a lot with computer graphics).
    thanks to everyone in advance
    (I apologize for any grammar error but I speak english as a second language)

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    I recommend the 15-inch MacBook Pro without a Retina display. In a MacBook Pro, you can upgrade the memory and hard drive without voiding the warranty, and the MacBook Pro with Retina display has got everything soldered into the logic board, so repairs are much expensive with the MacBook Pro with Retina display. Also, the Retina display is only needed for some specific jobs, so if you are going to use the computer for basic tasks, the 15-inch MacBook Pro is perfect.
    Note that Windows has got a resolution limitation, and you may have problems with some applications because of the high resolution of a MacBook Pro with Retina display, so you may have to reduce the resolution.
    Also, if you buy the 15-inch MacBook Pro, buy it with 4 GB of memory. After buying it, buy more memory from OWC or Crucial and install it in your computer. You will save a lot of money

    Is there a way in Pages to show and print all the added "comments?" (those you add by highlighting text)  I am a teacher, and I would  like students to be able to view my comments on printed versions of their papers. I know word displays the comments off to the side of the document, and those comments can be viewed all at once and printed alongside the document.

    There doesn't appear to be a way to print conmments in either Pages or Numbers in the Mavericks versions.

  • Is there a way to open a .mst file created in the student edition with MULTISIM 9

    When a student builds a file with MultiSIM 9, the circuit is created as a .msm file.  When the student goes home to work, they can open a .msm file with a student version, 2001 for example, but any change to the file can only be saved as a .mst file.  As soon as the file is saved as a .mst file, we have not found a way to open the file with the educational version of MultiSIM 9.  Is there any way to convert these files?  This makes it very difficult for a student to work at home for a project between or prior to labs.
    Thanks

    JKR,
    Unfortunately, the ".mst" extension is supposed to be open only by Textbook editions of Multisim. Not even a Power Pro version would be able to open it.
    I'm not sure the specifics of your case, but I guess that you open/saved the circuit on your textbook edition and that converted the file extension, is that right?...
    Well, as far as I know the textbook editions are meant to be 'demo' type of releases, so is limited in many features. You should be OK with a Student edition though -- which is not the one commonly found in textbooks.

  • Can I use Creative Cloud for students on more than one computer at the same time?

    I get different info when I read about how I could use creative cloud.
    Somewhere it say I can install and activate on two computers but only run the applications on one computer at the time.
    On antother place I read that I can use the applications on two computers at the same time.
    So what is correct?
    Can I install and activa Creative Cloud for students on my PC and my Mac and also run the applications on both computers at the same time?

    I already gave you the info you seek, but you don't seem to want to accept it.  Here it is in writing from Adobe's EULA (find it at: General-terms)
    "4.1 Subscription-Based Software License.
    If we provide the Software to you as part of your subscription to use the Services, then subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive license to install and use the Software: (a) in the Territory, (b) so long as your subscription is valid, and (c) consistent with these terms and related documentation accompanying the Software. “Territory” means worldwide, but excludes any U.S. embargoed countries and countries where you are prohibited from using the Software or the Services. You may activate the Software on up to 2 devices (or virtual machines) at a time, if these activations are associated with the same Adobe ID for the same individual, unless stated at http://www.adobe.com/go/activation. However, you may not use the Software on these devices simultaneously."
    You appear to want to believe that because you think you have a way of getting around the agreement without being caught it would be okay to do.  You are bound to the agreement if you purchase the subscription.  Do you understand what intentionally (and with fore-knowledge) failing to honor a contract constitutes?

  • How to install Photoshop CS5 Extended Student and Teacher edition on a MacBook with no CD drive

    I just recently purchased a MacBook, making the switch from PC to Mac, and I notice that my copy of PsCS5 Extended Educational edition, which is a CD, won't work on my MacBook because there is no CD drive. I even tried using my product key on a downloadable version of the same software but the best I could find is a non-educational version of the software and my product key won't work on it. How would I go about installing this on my MacBook without purchasing the $200 software again? Thanks in advance!

    There isn't much good news to offer.  The first mention below is probably your only shot without purchase, unless you could find someone to transfer licenses with.
    You won't be able to install a Windows version on the Mac unless you install some Windows emulation software on the Mac.
    You won't be able to activate a Mac version of the software on the machine because your license/serial number is only valid for Windows.
    CS5 is too old to qualify for a platform swap and Adobe no longer sells CS5 so you would have to take your chances with a third party vendor if you decided to purchase a Mac version.
    Just to clarify, there is no such thing as a student version of the software... the license dictates the status of the software.  So you won't be able to find a student version either

  • How do I change from an Online Creative Cloud Student and Teacher edition (one-year) to Adobe Creative Cloud for ETLA

    I received a redemption code for Adobe Creative Cloud for ETLA from my school and signed up with the redemption code but now it is saying that I  only have Online Creative Cloud Student and Teacher edition (one-year). What can I do to change it to the Adobe Creative Cloud for ETLA that I need for my college courses.

    I do not understand your issue, ETLA is just a educational form of CC, you have redeemed CC using redemption code on Jan 20, 2015, it valid for an year.
    Are you talking about how to use it offline as desktop app, then you can use the CC without internet for up-to 90 days, you need to log in once in 90 days to keep the CC active.
    Hope this answers your question.
