MPB SeeThru Speck Hard Case?

So I love my MPB to death (the Core Duo model, not the new C2D model), I love it so much that I've become a Mac loyalist, especially since I can run Windoze to play my games. Anyway, I'm really on the market for a hard shell to protect my MBP, as I travel a lot and I take it on campus pretty much wherever I go. I also would like the case to be "fashionable" and not cover any ports, allow for heat dissipation, etc.
So I came along the SeeThru Hardcase from Speck and I've only read one review and it's not available from the Apple online store. So I was wondering if anyone has ordered, or has this case and if so your impressions on this case. Or if anyone has a different hard shell-type case and would like to give me recommendations, I'm free to that as well.
BTW the Speck website is:

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or offer suggestions.
Daniel

I have been using the hard case for about a week or so. I like it,I feel more comfortable leaving my MBP out on a table.
Some impressions:
I haven't yet seen a problem with heat build up. On the other hand, I thought I'd be able to place my macbook straight on my lap now that it is in a hard case, but it still warmed up to point that I ended up using plastic foldout lap protector that I have been using.
I haven't noticed any sand paper effects on my case.
The lcd screen is a little heavier than before so it moves a little bit more when I'm adjusting it. Other than that, it doesn't move around any more than before.
I just "discovered" a nice thing about the hard case. I feel a lot more comfortable running my macbook pro with the battery removed since the bottom piece protects the exposed battery bay of the computer.
The two pieces also come off the computer pretty easily, that's good since you need to remove the bottom piece in order to remove the battery or to add ram.
The plastic cut outs have not been a problem, I've been able to add usb cables/power cable no problem, I haven't tried using the expresscard slot yet.
All in all it works well, I'm not so sure it's a must have item, but I think I got my money's worth.
Let me know if you have any specific questions

  • For anyone with speck hard case

    Hi,
If you have this case can you tell me whether it lets the MBP open fully or is it only possible to open the laptop to 90 degrees.
I am referring to the speck case here :
    http://www.speckproducts.com/products/seethru/macbook-pro-15/25
    Thanks !

I saw in some Apple document that the lid is supposed to open to about 130 degrees. I believe they included this info for users familiar with older (black) G3 PowerBooks that opened to 180 degrees.

  • Speck Hard Case

    1. Anyone know if this case will help the slight display warping I noticed, will it act as a brace to keep closing tight?
    2. Has anyone bought the new case for the CD 2, and if so are they making the cut-outs specific for each port or just making a broad cut-out for all ports like I heard about?
    3. Stupid question, what do you guys think is cooler, red or clear?

Running software to fix a hot and whining MacBook Pro is not recommended. You could unduly cause more damage to your fan than if you actually take the machine in for service by AppleCare. Consider this, these machines are finely tuned instruments, and no one but Apple knows the appropriate fan speeds and processor speeds for the amount of processing power the machine may need. You start meddling with that with anything but Apple's Energy Saver, and you could cause the machine to overheat if it isn't getting fan power when it needs to cool down, or the fan to break if it is attempting too hard to blow on the processor without following the specs that the fan came with. So if you have a really bad hot and whining MacBook or MacBook Pro, I suggest calling AppleCare and have them take a look at it.

  • Hard Case for Macbook

I have a hard case (made by Speck) is it safe for my Macbook Pro? I'm concerned about it blocking the ventilation

Cases of any sort hinder the MPB's cooling requirements. Get whatever you want but don't be surprised when it runs hot.
My Powerbook withstood over a decade of daily typing. The keys are fine. Just don't spill anything on it.

  • Hard Case for MBA

Very keen on making my MBA purchase soon. However, I am one of those people who like to purchase all my protective accessories before purchase of the unit.
I am looking for a slim, hard case for the MBA that can be then used to slip into my bag. Something that will protect from bumps and scratches too (if possible).
Has anyone seen a product like this on the market?
    Thanks.

    This will work.

  • Transparent Hard Case For 15 inch MacBook Pro

OMG this is so cool, im going to get one for my other lap top :D!
    http://gavilan1010.wordpress.com/2006/10/14/transparent-hard-case-for-15-inch-ma cbook-pro-2/

    Hi Everyone,
I am one of the engineers at Speck involved in designing and launching the MacBook See Thru Case. Thank you for your interest and feedback regarding this product. However, after reading through this discussion page, I feel it is necessary to dispel some misconceptions about this case. We are a case company that has been designing, engineering and selling cases for years. I'm not sure which Agent 18 case (great cases by the way) is being referred to in the previous thread, but without knowing the exact case, I am assuming there are inherent differences in the mounting system used. Specifically the following:
    1. The "Sandpaper effect" occurs when two surfaces rub against each other. In the example with the ipod case, I believe (and because I don’t know which case it is, I can be wrong) that the scratching was a result of the ipod sliding into the case, or sleeve. Typically hard PC cases have tight tolerances, which leave a minimal amount of clearance. Because of this, the ipod is more likely to be scratched when inserted into the case. However, unlike the ipod case example, the Macbook case clips onto the MacBook. Instead of a sliding motion, the MacBook See Thru is a snap on and lift off system. Also, because the See Thru is clipped onto the Macook, it is a static system, thus no surfaces would be moving against each other.
    2. More importantly, we designed the MacBook See Thru with small spacers that keep a minimal distance between the surface of the See Thru and the MacBook. This means that unlike the Ipod case that sits against the surface of the Ipod, the MacBook See Thru maintains uniform clearance.
Lastly, from a consumer standpoint, and user of many, many different CE devices, I am always hesitant to use adhesive films on my products. In my experience, they tend to leave a residue, which is sometimes difficult to get off, and makes your device have a higher affinity for dirt. This is not to say that all films are created equal (because there are some companies that have engineered them not to leave as much of a residue). Also, films tend to scratch and rip easier. Please remember that there may be some bias in my comments (being a Speck engineer that has been so involved in this project), so take them at your own discretion. But don't take my word for it, go out to the Apple Store and check them out for yourself. I think you won't be disappointed.

  • How do you get the speck gemshell case off an ipod touch 5th generation

I am trying to get the speck gemshell case that I purchased along with the "new" ipod touch 5th generation. It seems like a solid piece of clear see-through piece of plastic and it will withstand lots of drops with the added "lips"on the front of the ipod touch (one reason why i got this case. The other reason was to have my red ipod seen by all who wish to look at it.) but my problem with it is that it seems "too solid". The case is hard to put on and REALLY hard to take off. I have read on some websites that you can take a credit card as a way of taking the case off but I want to figure out how to take it off without ruining my ipod or bending the case?

    Contact the manufacturer

    There support page

does not list instructions for Gemshell case

  • Looking for a hard case

I have a 17" MacBook Pro (non-unibody) and I am looking for a good hard case for it. Not something that stays on it, but like a sleeve type thing that will protect the laptop while it's in my bag. It needs to provide protection from dents and would be great if it was padded. However, it cannot add too much bulk (some is OK) so it will still fit in my bag. Any suggestions?

I also highly recommend MacTruck for extensive travel although I don't consider doing so as overkill. I use this when traveling by plane and train. Otherwise, for everyday travel usage I use Speck cover.

  • Use of external hard cases

Does Apple discourage the use of protective plastic snap-on hard cases for the MacBook?

Well, they sell Speck cases in Apple stores as well as in their online store, so the answer would be no.

  • IPOD hard cases

I am looking for a hard case for my new iPOD 5G. I have in mind the agent18 and the speck one. Which is most confortable? I know the agent18 permits full access to plug the iPOD to the computer. Does the speck one as well? Can both be used with the logitech mm50 speakers? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can charge off any USB anywhere in the world since USB ports are all standardized at 5V regardless of what line voltage the computer runs off of.
Can't help you with the 80GB case question, sorry.

  • Should I use Speck hard cover?

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the Speck hard cover for MacBook air, because I heard people saying it is really good and heard people saying it heats the computer up, so it is not good. Is that true?

    Gi Saes wrote:
Should I use a normal case then? I am quite clumsy, I don't want to have it scratched, is there any other option to protect the computer?
Considerations for the long life of your Macbook Air. Handling and environmental care tips
Dropping it is a personal issue.     Just use a soft case, take it out when needed, then put it right back in.
Other options are personal insurance for loss / theft / accidents.
investigate a TYPE of insurance, called Inland Marine Insurance, very cheap.

  • How do u open this SPECK iphone case!??

    HI
I just slotted my iphone to this new SPECK case, and somehow,it caused one end of my protective film to 'popped' out at the open left corner.
I had a hard time trying to ply open this new case, but it is freaking no use at all. How do you open this freaking SPECK fitted case!?
    my poor film...
    Appreciate some advise, thanks.

Apple/ATT doesn't have the decency to make sure customers can protect both the phone and the screen with a case and the screen protector that fits the phone correctly????
How could anyone here answer your question? This is strictly a user-to-user tech support site. Apple, and certainly not AT&T, doesn't participate in this forum or read these posts.
Out of curiosity, by what stretch reasoning (other than self-serving whining) do you think that Apple is responsible for guaranteeing the functionality of a 3rd party accessory sold by another vendor.

  • Rubber cases vs Hard Cases

I've had both the Incase Slider and the Incase Protective cover. I returned both after a while.
Incase Protective Cover - stretch at the bottom, but good feel
Incase Slider - doesn't stretch but will crack when dropped unlike the rubber case
So rubber cases don't crack and hard cases don't stretch. I used to think hard cases were better until I realized that they scratch the phone and crack when dropped on impact.
Can anyone recommend any rubber cases that don't stretch? Also, I was disappointed with the Power Support Air jacket that I just trashed it. I threw away the screen protectors too because I could never get air bubbles off. Also, the invisible shield started to crack.

I went to Apple looking for the Speck CandyShell but they were sold out. Instead, I re-bought the Incase Slider (gray this time) and I love it. I also bought a screen protector to go with it.
I'm gonna say I love this case. I should never have returned it in the first place and wasted $35 on the Power Support Air Jacket.
Ah well, this will be my main case from now on and I highly recommend it. I even got a screen protector (some default one at the mall) and it works nice. Though it is noticeable in light, it actually feels better than my old Invisible Shield. It's not bulky like the IS and I can slide my fingers on the screen as if I didn't have any screen protector on at all.
So I actually do prefer cases because the iPhone 3G has a plastic back this time, which is more fragile than the original iPhone.
If it was the original iPhone, I'd just buy a sleeve/pouch. This is just my opinion. So the $17 pouch I bought from Best Buy will sit in my box unused from now on.

  • I want to buy a hard case for my macbook pro, but I don't know what year it is. When I use the serial number to try and find out, all it says is, "~VIN,MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy)". When I type that into amazon for a case it gives me nothing!
