MPE GPU Acceleration with a GTX 480

Hi,
I added the line "GeForce GTX 480" in the cuda_supported_cards.txt file.  MPE became available upon doing so.  However rendering is faster in software than using the GPU.  Did I miss something?

I installed the GTX 480, added it to the text file,. Now I have
MPE GPPU available as well as MPE software available. My tests show no difference. The GPU is only used about 7% and my CPU's are still maxed out.

  • Premiere Pro CS6: GPU acceleration with GeForce GTX 600 series video cards?

Anyone know if Premiere Pro CS6 support GPU acceleration with the new GeForce GTX 600 series video cards?

1 - check the results at http://ppbm5.com/ to see which models are listed
2 - For "some" others, with at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file

  • De-interlacing not working on output using AME and MPE GPU acceleration

    Hi
These days I normally shoot progressive video so have not noticed this issue before.  However, we recently shot a large project at 1080i.  Now at the stage of outputting web-ready H264 versions of multiple timelines (200+).
The timelines are also 1080i but we are outputting to H264 1080p - so obviously we want to deinterlace on output.
The problem I am having is that Adobe Media Encoder is NOT deinterlacing on output - the encoded file is flagged as progressive but exhibits combing artifacts all over it.  We are running CS5.5 on a Windows 7 PC with an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 gfx card - Mercury PE with GPU acceleration.  We also have a Mac without a qualified graphics card running CS5.5 with software only MPE.
On the Mac we are outputting with no issues - final output is deinterlaced as expected.  On the PC I tried any number of combinations to try and get deinterlaced output (even deinterlacing the clips on the timeline) but no matter what I did it STILL ended up with combing issues.  As a last resort I switched the project setting MPE GPU acceleration off (to MPE software only) and tried again.  Guess what?  Perfect deinterlaced clips from Media Encoder.
The only problem is that the clips take about 10 times longer to render without the GPU acceleration which with the number we have to get through is a real issue.
Can anyone suggest a solution?  Anyone else got this issue?  Is it a hardware combination problem?  Its really annoying to have to disable MPE acceleration on output, one of the major selling points of having this system.
    Thanks
    Rob

Setting each clip's field options to Always Deinterlace is the only way I know to get around this bug.  It works for me even in an interlaced sequence, but you said it didn't work for you.  If you haven't yet, try copy/paste into a matching progressive sequence and then set the Always Deinterlace option for the interlaced clips.

  • GPU acceleration with the nvidia 680M card?

Should i have GPU acceleration with the nvidia 680M card? i believe the 680 is supported but is the 680M supported? If not, any plans to support this card in the next update?

I navigated to the cuda support folder and added the Nvidia 680M to the list. The i went to the Nvidia settings and changed the Adobe premiere setting to compatibility mode. Opened my project and began editing. It crashes after a few seconds.
I'm also getting this full screen issue that people are talking about. For example, when I minimise premiere to work in another program and go back to premiere when i'm done I get a full screen display of the frame currently in the preview window. This also happens when the computer is inactive for a time. I'll came back to the computer after a few minutes to find the view in full screen. Sometimes a double clip it and it brings back the standard editing workspace but sometimes I have to 'control, alt, delete' to start task manager, open a new window (can be anything) and navigated to that window then back to premiere. It's as if Premiere has frozen.

  • Black Screen (source and preview) when using GPU acceleration (CUDA) [NVidia GTX 780M]

    Hi guys!
I am running Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 on Windows 7 (Ult) on a machine equipped with NVidia GTX 780M (4 GB VRAM) graphics card. The source and the preview monitors are both black if I select GPU accelerated rendering. There is a yellow bar above the timeline clips, I can hear the sound tracks, but there is no image. If I choose the Software Only rendering (CPU) then I do see the image as well, but the real-time playback and rendering times are awful!
At first, the application would not allow me to use the GPU acceleration using NVidia’s CUDA processing. Once I entered my video card name in the “cuda_supported_cards.txt” file in the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 folder I was able to choose between Mercury Playback Engine Software Only and Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration CUDA.
I tried downgrading the video card driver to the previous stable version and reinstall Pr – no go. How do I make Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 work with my NVidia GTX 780M video card?
    Your insight is appreciated!
P.S. I used to work on a different machine equipped with NVidia GTX 670M card (which is also missing from the officially supported Pr CS6 cards list) and I never had any issues of this nature with that laptop.

    Hi there,
As stated before, I had the same problem. Apparantly the solution for me was to check the Nvidia settings. My setup has both an onboard GPU and a Nvidia GPU (on purpose specifically for video editing and gaming). Normally the system should switch to Nvidia automatically. However, the Nvidia settings for Premiere where set to favor the onboard GPU. After changing this. everything works fine again!
    kind regards. Bart

  • Brush lag GPU Acceleration with AMD FirePro M6000

    Hello,
I currently have a Dell Precision M6700 which I had replaced my old laptop with in attempt to fix this very problem. I'm using Windows 7 x64 with Photoshop CC x64. Whenever I attempt to use my Cintiq 13HD with GPU acceleration enabled, the brush lags horribly on the smallest of canvases. Disabling GPU acceleration fixes it but I use many of the tools such as canvas rotation greatly. I've checked everything from spacing in brushes to trying different drivers. My drivers for my 13HD are the latest and as are the drivers for the Firepro M6000. I'm extremely confused as AMD states that this is a certified adobe photoshop gpu and the FirePro line is made with excellent OpenGL support as far as I'm aware.
I've searched other threads before with this issue and attempted various fixes to no avail. I'm especially baffled as this is a workstation class GPU. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Amaron

    Hallo,
it's been some time since your post, but can you tell me whether the issue has been resolved? I have a Cintiq 21UX and I'm thinking about buying a Dell Precision M6700 with exactly that Video Card, but if there's no prospect of it being supported properly in current and future Versions of Photoshop, then that's no option...
    Thanks for any help!

  • Cannot use GPU acceleration with 64 bit CS5 under 64 bit Windows 7 with two cards ATI & nVidia

Subject sums up the problem, but here are the details:
My ATI is a 5850, and I have drivers 10.6 installed. That's my primary card connected to my main monitor.
The second card is an nVidia GTS 250 connected to my second monitor with 258.96 drivers.
CS5 does not detect my GPU(s), hence, does not enable GPU acceleration. It says:
"Graphics hardware acceleration is unavailable. You will need to upgrade your video driver and possibly your video card" both of which are obviously wrong, since I have the latest CS5 supporting drivers installed for two cards that can run GPGPU applications!
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

I'm curious about whether the requirement to support HLSL Shader Model 3.0 is a big part of what is holding back GPU acceleration support for ATI cards in Adobe products.  It seems that HLSL Shader Model 3.0 is NVidia/Intel proprietary, whereas GLSL is an open standard like OpenGL.
What ATI support do you find being held back?  Just curious.  I ask because I have a 2 year old ATI 4670 card that supports Photoshop nicely.  The Catalyst software seems to have embraced whatever's necessary to run Photoshop.*
    -Noel
    * That said, I see a specific bug where sometimes the 32 bit drivers on my x64 system will not be recognized by Photoshop 32 bit as OpenGL-capable at Photoshop startup.  I've reported it to ATI, and they seem to have taken it seriously, so I expect a fix in a future version.  The 64 bit drivers always satisfy Photoshop's needs, so I'm sure it's not a design deficiency but just a lil' ol' bug.

  • Missing GPU Acceleration With NVIDIA Quadro 4000

    Hi -
I have a PC running Windows 7 with an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 card and 16GB of RAM. I have both Premiere Pro CS6 v6.0.5 and Premiere Pro CC v7.2.2 (just installed).
When I create a new project in CC, my only option under Video Rendering and Playback is Mercury Playback Engine Software Only. However, when I open a project in CS6, I get that option and also Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelerated (CUDA).
Any thoughts on why the GPU option would not be available to me in CC?

    Hi Mesmer3001,
I will suggest you to do a clean uninstall of all NVidia drivers and then re-install the latest one from the NVidia website. So, please follow the steps mentioned below.
Go to Device manager, right click on the graphivs card and select update driver software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software option.
Then on next screen choose Let me pick from a list option
Choose standard VGA graphics adapter which will choose VGA mode for your machine.
Then go to Control Panel and uninstall all the NVidia drivers. Restart the machine once it is done. Then go to the below link and re-install the Drivers again.
Hope it helps and please update if you need further assistance.

  • [SOLVED] i915: no gpu acceleration with 3.18.0

    Hi,
I compiled the new vanilla kernel using the same .config as the previous one (also self compiled), but with 3.18 intel gpu accleration fails to start. Xorg.bin log says "Failed to submit rendering commands, disabling acceleration". As a result Gnome is painfully choppy and watching a video is impossible. This happens on both my first gen i7 laptop and Core2 desktop, so Ironlake and Earlake.
Another machine with a nvidia card and proprietary modules compiled with dkms seems unaffected.
Here are my Xorg log and dmesg

  • GTX 480, The Hack, Cross Dissolve freezes playback.

Still experimenting with Canon T2i footage in CS5 with MPE set to recognize my GTX 480 (latest beta driver).
Two clips butted up, cross-dissolve layed over them--line is yellow.
Upon playback, source monitor freezes when transition is reached.
Footage is located on my fastest mobo raid.
i7 930, 12gb RAM, not overclocked (first attempt failed).
    Kind of a bummer.

Have you updated to 5.0.1? There was a bug in 5.0 where two butted clips, instantes from the same clip in the project window frooze up with cross dissolves.

  • GPU Acceleration Cards For Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello:
I am ready to invest in a GPU accelerated graphics card that will speed up playback and use the Mercury Playback Engine in GPU mode.
From what I could find on the Adobe site, these are the cards that are supported for Premiere Pro CS5
Supported NVIDIA video cards for GPU acceleration (CS5):
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)
    GeForce GTX 470 (Windows)
Quadro 4000 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro 5000 (Windows)
    Quadro 5000M (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro FX 5800 (Windows)
    Quadro CX
Can anyone give me a recommendation from your own experience?  Is the list of cards above still valid?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus

So... before I go out and spend $650 on a GeForce GTX 680, it is this simple to make it work in CS5?
    Yes.
    (1) Make sure the card has at least 1GB of VRAM (which the GTX 680 has).
    (2) Edit the cuda_supported_cards.txt to add one line:  GeForce GTX 680 (starting in column 1)
    (3) Install the card?
Do step 3 before step 2.
Also, you can simply delete the cuda_supported_cards.txt file
    and achieve the same result.
Will Premiere Pro recognize that I have the card and immediately take advantage of the GPU capabilities, or do I have to change options?
    You will need to specify:
"MPE GPU Acceleration" in your Project Settings:
If you do not have a supported card (or have not applied the hack),
this option will be greyed out.

  • Windows GPU acceleration or Mac Pro 2013?

Illustrator 18 now has "Windows GPU acceleration" with an Adobe-certified NVIDIA graphics card. Based on NVIDIA technology called NV Path Rendering that is implemented as an extension to OpenGL. So, before I go out and by myself a PC. I would like to know how this compares to the Mac Pro offering Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPU's.
Currently the impression I get is that upgrading from my Mac Book Pro to a Mac Pro, may not be worth the investment. In particular, I occasionally use Final cut Pro and Maya so was looking at the 6 core or 8 core, but with the slower clock speeds and the current lake of multicore / multithreading in illustrator got me questioning the upgrade.
    Anyone pointer appreciated?

...gee, I thought I'd get a reply on this one.
Adobe - you there? What have you planned for the Mac pro / illustrator users.

  • Trouble with GPU Acceleration in Premiere Pro CS6 (GTX 670)

I recently bought a new GTX 670 with the hopes that it would accelerate my video editing in Premiere. After using the "nVidia hack" to add it to the list of CUDA supported cards, I started up Premiere, enabled GPU acceleration in the general project preferences window, and was disappointed to find that my performance appeared to be identical to what I had experienced with my non compatible HD 6870s.
When I checked with MSI Afterburner, my GPU usage remained around 0%, even when playing through videos. I'm quite certain that my card was successfully added to the list, so I have no idea what's going on.
Is there any chance that I am misunderstanding what GPU acceleration is supposed to do? I'm very new to Premiere, so I don't know too much about it yet. The reason I bought my new card, aside from improved performance in 3D games, was to allow me to scrub through my project (comprised of 1080p AVI videos captured with FRAPS) without hiccups and poor FPS. Was this not a reasonable expectation for GPU rendering?
Here's a short list of my PC's specs if it's any help:
-Intel i5 2500k (currently not overclocked)
    -8GB DDR3 Dual Channel RAM (at 1600MHz)
    -1TB 7200RPM HDD
-nVidia GTX 670 OC 2GB VRAM
    -Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Motherboard
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Did you go to project>project settings>general and verify that GPU (cuda) accleration is enabled? If it's set to software only then change it and see if that helps. If it's enabled my next question is what is the bitrate of your FRAPS videos? Because I have seen some fraps video's with bit-rates that are really high which would require a RAID array that is only holding video clips to playback smoothly. In your case it appears you have your OS and your apps and your footage all playing from the same 7200rpm drive. Which isn't really sufficent for 1080p editing. However it might be as simple as enabling it from within premiere pro like I mention earlier. If it's enabled though please check the bit-rate of your video you're attempting to edit with because I'm assuming that might be the issue.

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Mecury GPU Acceleration CS5.5

    Hi all!
I am having problems with my GTX 285, so i am looking to upgrade it. I have found the GeForce GTX 650 Ti card quite cheap, but i need to know, does the Premiere Pro CS5.5 Mecury GPU Playback engine support this card? It ain't listed in the list of supported cards, but it's an Nvidia card so i just wanted to be sure I also need to know: is the new cards on the list, that was added in CS6 also supported on CS5.5?
    Thank you in advance

Also, do Premiere use the CPU? I have a quite fast CPU (6 cored 2.7 GHz AMD chip), so if it does, i am pretty sure that it would be able to cover performance the loss from the GPU.
    Thanks

Sorry to say this but your AMD CPU is not a fast CPU when it comes to video editing.  If you search around on our 1100 record data base of PPBM5 benchmarks the fastest AMD single chip unit ranks at 502 out of those 1100 tested configuration.  This is because AMD does not have some of the latest SSE 4.2 instructions on the chip.  This is why Intel is so highly recommended for video editing.  If you are using any of the MPE accelerated effects or features an you want the highest quality encoding with minimum encoding time you need an nVidia GPU

  • How can I open a project that has been created with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software, on my trial version of Premier Pro CC?

    Hi,
I'm working with a colleague who is using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software on his PC version of Premier Pro CC. I am using a mac and have a trial version of Premier Pro CC. When I try to open a project file that he has sent me I get an error message-
"Missing renderer: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
When I click OK and locate the files I get a message saying "File format not supported".
Can anyone tell me what to do so that we can share project files?
    Many thanks,
    Jessie

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?
