MPE Players

Not sure what section to post in but here goes anyway.
G4 10.4
Just been given an MP3 player (Not ipod) from brother as a present. On the box it says its an Q-BE player and is a small cube. Also it says its for windows and Mac. The driver is for windows only no mac drivers on the CD
Q. Do I need a driver or does itunes detect automatically ?
Also when plugged into the USB port the computer doesn't see it anywhere ???
How are these things supposed to operate.
I dont do tech stuff very well so any answers in child language please :-))

Stuart,
Normally MP3 players like this are treated simply as USB devices on a Mac, you won't be able to use iTunes. My wife was given a little 256MB LG branded one recently, to get music on it you simply drag an individual MP3 or for an album, a folder containing all the MP3 tracks, to the device. If it's not showing up in Finder try a different USB port, one on the G4, don't connect it to the keyboard.

    Hi Maryan,
Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same.

  • CS5 can not output MPE to external DV device

This is quite a surprise for those of us who rely on DV output.
    Harm Millaard:
"An MPE card stops external monitor viewing."
"The problem is that CUDA does not currently support output
on DV devices, only full screen  second displays (DVI, DisplayPort, etc)."
"...one serious limitation, those who use dual monitors for editing and
a third monitor for full screen display and color grading or that use the
fire wire connection to record DV/HDV back to tape.
Some may think tape is dead, but there are numerous people around
that still like to jeep their final cut on a master tape."
"The basic problem is how to get a DV signal back over firewire for
exporting to tape or display on an external monitor and that currently is a CUDA problem."
"It must be resolved. If not, the introduction of CS5 / MPE as a game changer
can quickly turn into a game stopper.
I think (purely personal opinion)  Adobe and nVidia must correct this ASAP
Otherwise you end up with a SNAFU."

The first post about this CS5 bug was in May.  It is now Augusut and still no fix?
Every time I'm about to place my order for CS5, I find out about another "gotcha' problem.  I'm still on CS3 and am seriously wondering whether I should continue to move forward with Premiere.
I still use an older "DPS Velocity Quattrus" system and it still leaves Premiere in the dust.  Unfortunately Harris, who bought Leitch/who bought DPS, has discontinued the product.  A software developer from Itlay is attempting to breathe life into it (ivsEdits.com), but it isn't a fully operational system.
Yes, "Firrewire" output is still a Big Deal.  There are many of us who use our editing systems as a business tool.  Going back and disabling the Mercury Engine, then re-rendering as "software only" is a waste of my time.
Come On, Adobe & Nvidia, get this fixed!
Well...i'd guess that CS5 hold it's own against a system like yours for flexibility...though if the way that card works is in your workflow "sweet spot" then I guess you're probably best served to stay with it.
If you have a system that has the juice to even run CS5, i can't imagine that running a CUDA-augmented system for Mercury is even remotely necessary for editing DV...  as far as using our systems as a business tool...I'm not sure what you're implying.  Most of us who are in the production business -in general- have moved to some form of HD some time ago, most of my peers made the move during CS2...
Are you implying the rest of us aren't professionals, even as you are lobbying for aggressive support of a consumer-oriented I/O configuration?  I hope not.
It's not a bug BTW...it's a configuration that a few people don't like...but when your effects render is out on the display card, that's the way the pipe is routed.  Even HDSDI card manufacturers are finding that pulling those frames back off the display card negates some of the speed gains.
If you have a system that is qualified for it, I think you should download the demo and try it before you assess PPro CS5 any further.  You are making lots of sweeping statements about a piece of software released almost 4 years ago running on a hardware system that was discontinued 4 years ago being better than the newest software running on up-to-date hardware without understanding what its performance is really like...even without a CUDA card.
I can shut off CUDA and rip through DVCProHD like there's no tomorrow on my 3 year old dual dual core AMD...I have to believe you'll be able to -shred- DV on even an average-ish machine by today's standards.

  • Notes, grumblings and Questions on MP3-players in gene

. A failing of (as far as I know)
any MP3 recorder (if an MP3 player can record MP3s, I call it an MP3 recorder)
are all those missing editing options available on MiniDisk: divide, combine, name and move tracks.
Since fragmenting is of hardly any importance on flash-memory, I really don't see why they don't offer it. Unless someone knows one that does?
2.Q: How good is the quality of this "direct MP3 encoding" compared to software encoders like LAME?
I suppose it's lower ('cause of the far lower computing power and 'cause energy consumption is a FAR greater issue than on home PCs)
but just how much lower is it's
Asked differently: At what bitrate do you have to "direct encode" to achieve approx. the same quality as 80kbs CBR via LAME?
    3. "OLEDs are fascinating and are rapidly evolving, but have currently (July 2005) only a life span of 0000-5000 hours or 2-5 years".
(Translated) statement from reichelt-elektronik. So, don't buy an OLED-device yet if you want something really long-lasting.
4.Equalizer: Even on a HiFi stereo system, I'd consider it more of a gimmick (unless one doesn't have a PC - then it can be useful).
If I want a song to have a stronger bass or whatever (which I never did, so far),
then I'd use an audio editing software so the song always sounds the way I prefer it, independently from the playback device.
On a portable player, this function is just a nuisance, since I have to pay attention that it is 'not acti've' or 'normal'.
In addition, often a button is wasted/reserved for this function that could be put to better use.
[So, plea for opensource firmware here that'll let me reprogram such a button. Or alternati'vely, several different firmwares by Creative that cater to different types of customers (like me).].
Far more use than an equalizer, though propably more difficult to implement, would be a
    5. Volume Compressor: (A function that narrows the volume range of a song, for example from 2dB-60dB to 55dB-60dB.)
Of course, your average pop song is already heavily compressed,
but if you're listening to some opera or other classical music, it would be great if one could increase compression when there is (a lot of) ambient noise,
so one can still hear quiet passages without going deaf on the loud ones.
Q:I've read that some players have a 'Smart Volume' function. Is that a compressor?
    6. Who thinks that Artist-Album-Title is a great sequence for an MP3-player?
Maybe I'm a weird guy, but I've never thought "Now, I wanna hear Madonna." or "Now, I wanna hear ABBA."
Instead, I think like "Now, I wanna hear 'Goodnight moon' " (from whoever) or "Now, 'Music' "(from Madonna) or "Now, 'The winner takes it all' " (from ABBA).
So, to me, the title is by far the Nr. criterion. What do I care who's singing it's And though with pop songs, one often can't help knowing, I've got lots of folklore, oldies and more extraordinary stuff where the Artist(s) and Albums are "Unknown" to me.
What if you want to play a particular song? You don't just have to know who the Artist is and in what Album, but also what track number the song has, because on average, your player won't be able to display more than 'Artist' and part of the 'Album' name, unless each one is on a separate line, which usually isn't the case. (I know it's scrolling, but that takes time, and the longer the names, the more. Prelistening is usually faster).
So, even to those who know 'Artist' and 'Album', the display isn't of much use since there can be dozens of songs in a particular album.
[Again, plea for opensource firmware that'll let me change the display sequence, or many different firmware versions by Creative .].
Of course, I can still have my sequence by saving the track title in the 'Artist' column, but, well... I'm not very fond of the idea!

.) Well, most mp3 players are not dedicated recorders like MiniDiscs were intended to be, namely why they don't commonly come with this functionality.
2.) Guess it depends on the chipset used for the direct encoding I would imagine. I would think it differs from model to model.
3.) Most people won't keep an mp3 player for that long in my opinion. I have had 4 mp3 players in the span of about 3 years. Not to say they've all broken (only one has in fact), but I am a fan of new technology. As are most people. I would think the majority of people have no real care for this figure.
4.) Most people do use an equaliser. It's not a gimmick. It can instantly give a boost to a song when/if it is necessary. I don't personally use one, but it gives people the simplicity of using their player to implement certain presets without having to have any other technical know-how. Most players could do with some kind of memory system, where it remembers what EQ setting you used for a specific track, but it's not 00% necessary.
Also, I've never had a player with a dedicated EQ hardware button. Not that I've wanted one. There are players with configurable buttons though. I am pretty sure iRi'ver players and Cowan's iAudio range have players with at least one configurable button.
5.) No player I know has what you request. Smart Volume also generally is an overall way of making a track seem a different volume, it doesn't analyse separate parts. You could probably achieve what you wanted by running your mp3's through something like mp3gain.
6.) My Creative Zen Sleek let you view by :
    Album > Track
    Artist > Album > Track
    Artist > All Tracks
    Genre > Artist > Album > Track
I can even go into "All Tracks" and use the find feature to grab a specific track if I need to. Isn't this more than enough to accomodate the average person?

  • How to Sync two different Zen players with one library?

I have two players; a Zen V Plus 8 gb and a Zen 32 gbMy library is now larger than 8 gbI want to sync the V Plus with a playlist that I define on the PC just for running, and sync the entire library with the ZenHowever I just cannot figure out how to do this using the creativemedia application suppliedI have found out how to transfer a playlist but don't want to do this every time the playlist is changedI cannot find an option to sync just the contents of a playlist, it always wants to sync all the tracks and then returns an error because (of course) the library is bigger than the V Plus! ?Does anyone have any ideasThanks

Use Windows Media Player ?to sync. Each device has it's own sync properties. What you are trying to do is a feature of that software. I do not use the Creative software at all...only the Zencast Organizer (as I needed a podcast aggregator anyway).

  • Can two players use the same game app without erasing each other's scores?

Can two players use the same game app on the same device without erasing each other's scores?  My two sons build up their characters and progress in their games, then the other one wants to play, erasing the first son's progress.
Is it possible to create two player identities in the Game Center?
Is it possible to have two different Apple User ID accounts on the same device?  Is that even desirable?
    Many thanks!
    MCPROBW

You can create as many individual user accounts on a Mac as you like. Then, any one or more of those users can remotely log in from another Mac and use that Mac as their own, simultaneously. Each account will remain separate from all others.
However, since each user needs to have a Mac to do that, I'm not sure how you could effectively double the number of users as you describe.

  • What is happening with Multimedia players in Firefox 8?

Is there some big problem here? Since Firefox 8 I have been struggling to get Multimedia and Flash content on websites, including BBC and Facebook, to work right. I have re-installed Adobe Flash player and Shockwave flash players on several occasions, and at present it is not working again. I have had brief periods of success, but then on re-starting Firefox it is broke again. I am on Windows 7.

Thanks for this. I had tried most of this already.
The list didn't show it I think because it was disabled when I sent the question. With it enabled, Flash content pages showed nothing where the content should be, not even a token jpeg. Adobe test page said all was fine and up to date.
What I have done this morning is Uninstall and reinstall the plugin. (I had to do manually as the automatic failed.) Flash content is now working again - but I got to this point about a week ago, and when I went back in the next day it had stopped working again! I will let you know by posting here if it breaks again.
Thanks again for your prompt response.

Instead of posting HTML here, which the board is not really designed to handle, could you edit your post to clear that out and provide the URL to the page that has the problem?
When I look at the home page at http://www.falmouthgoatrace.org/ I don't see a problem.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site, you can call the dialog to remove the cookie using either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • "Maximum Render Quality" Better to turn it OFF when using CUDA MPE?

    http://crookedpathfilms.com/blog/201...port-settings/
"IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT RENDERING TIME:  Make sure you do not select “Use  Maximum Render Quality” if you are utilizing the accelerated GPU  graphics (Mercury Playback Engine).  This will not improve your video  and will only slow down the rendering speed by as much as 4 times!"
    http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotr...e-pro-cs5.html
"For export, scaling with CUDA is always at maximum quality, regardless  of quality settings. (This only applies to scaling done on the GPU.)  Maximum Render Quality can still make a difference with CUDA-accelerated  exports for any parts of the render that are processed on the CPU...
When rendering is done on the CPU with Maximum Render Quality enabled,  processing is done in a linear color space (i.e., gamma = 1.0) at 32  bits per channel (bpc), which results in more realistic results, finer  gradations in color, and better results for midtones. CUDA-accelerated  processing is always performed in a 32-bpc linear color space. To have  results match between CPU rendering and GPU rendering, enable Maximum  Render Quality."
Here is what I got out of after reading those two sites:
I should turn it off for it's always ON (when CUDA MPE is used)  regardless I check or uncheck it.Turning it ON only offloads the  calculation to CPU (instead of GPU) hence slowing down the previewing  and encoding performance.
So I guess I should have Maximum Render Quality setting turned OFF in both of squence settings and export settings.
However, David Knarr of Studio 1 Productions suggest otherwise:
    http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5.htm
"When you startup Adobe Premiere CS5 and you don't have a certified video card  (or one that is unlocked) the Mercury Playback Engine is in software rendering mode  and by default the Maximum Render Quality mode (or MRQ) is to OFF.
(Maximum Render Quality mode will maximize the quality of motion in rendered clips and  sequences.  So when you select this option, the video will often  render moving objects more sharply.  Maximum Render Quality also maintains sharp  detail when scaling from large formats to smaller formats, or from  high-definition to standard-definition formats.  For the highest quality exports you should always use the Maximum Render Quality  mode.)
When you unlock Adobe Premiere CS5 so the Mercury Playback Engine can use almost  any newer NVidia card (or if you are using a "certified" NVidia graphics card),  the Mercury Playback Engine will be in the hardware  rendering mode and the Maximum Render Quality mode  will be turned ON.
Since the software mode is not set to maximum render quality,  it can sometime render faster than the hardware render, but a a loss in  qualitly. If you set the software to  maximum render quality you will see that it is very, very slow compared to the  hardware render.
Here is how to set the Maximum Render Quality.
    1)  Open up Premiere CS5
    2)  Click on Sequence at the top of the screen
    3)  Then select Sequence Settings
    4)  At the bottom of the window select Maximum Render Quality and click Okay
It is always best to be using the Maximum Render Quality mode,"
    Now, I'm lost.

Okay, I am loosing it.....    You are correct.
I am not sure what I was remembering, I could have sworn that when I loaded Premiere CS5 for the first time before I unlocked the video card, the Maximum Render Quality mode was NOT checked.  Then when I unlocked the video card,  the Maximum Render Quality mode was check to ON and I didn't set it to be On.
I just when back and uninstalled Premiere and re-installed it, to see what was going on and I was totally wrong.
Sorry for the mistake and I will be updating the article on my website in the next 15 min.
Also, I have written a small program to do the unlock automatically.  The program is free and it works with the cards listed under the Automatic Mode.
If your video card isn't listen, just let me know what your card is and what you typed into the cuda cards file and I will add it to the program.

  • If all the songs in my playlist I want to burn are mp3 format, will iTunes automatically create an mp3 CD? I want the CD to be in a format that most CD players can play.

I didn't know I would have to add more. What I need to know is in the title. If all the tracks in a playlist are mp3 encoded, will iTunes assume that I want it to burn an mp3 disk? What I really want is a CD that plays in most CD players everywhere, not mp3. I tried to look up the type of file that is on most commercially made CDs, and I get .cda. But then I get an argument that .cda is a file that marks the gap length and track info, and does not contain the music info at all. Computers are just too **** complex for an old geezer like me. With computers, nothing is what it really seems.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Ken

Don't concern yourself with the type of file on an audio CD - they use their own special format.
When you create a playlist and choose 'Burn playlist to disk' you will get this pane:
Choose 'Audio CD' - that's all you have to do.

Just went to the product support site. Guess what? The latest MediaSource plugins for the various Creative MP3 Players are now available for download. I am sure the latest plugins should have fixed several problems.
Don't forget to download the latest Creative MediaSource v3.30.2 too. Install the latest Creative MediaSource first before you install the MediaSource Plugins of your respecti've MP3 Players.
Note: According to the download site, the latest MediaSource plugins require you to have at least v3.20.57 of Creative MediaSource.

    Thanks micromouse
... but there's no new plugin for the original Jukebox
I've always had trouble connecting to MediaSource with my JB and was hoping for a new plugin to sort all my problems.

  • Muted/Muffled audio on all Media Players after upgrade to iTunes 7.0.1.8

In the past few days I have upgraded my version of iTunes to 7.0.1.8. I am now noticing new audio playback issues I have not seen up until my upgrade.
When playing back a large majority of my library, the audio on an MP3 becomes muted/muffled at various points in the song. I thought my speakers were damaged, so I tried the same MP3 files in both Windows Media Player and Creative Media Player. I found that the other two media players had muting/muffling at the exact same points in the songs.
The interesting this is that this issue never occureed until I upgraded to the latest iTunes. In addition, the exact same MP3 files sound perfect when played on my Nano.
Did iTunes corrupt a DLL file on my PC? Since this problem started I have updated the drivers on my Creative Labs Audigy 2 Platinum Pro, have not seen any improvement.

Thank you for describing the problems so well. I also have been going nuts trying to restore my Itunes Library to its original (or acceptable) condition. I have a 5th gen 30G Video with about 4250 songs on it. After downloading 7 I found that every song in my Library had been dulplicated or triplicated. Then, a day latr, when I had downloaded album art, I discovered that every other song in any album I had downloaded (from Itunes or my own cd)prior to perhaps version 5 or version 6 could not be found. Luckily, I had an generation 4 Ipod with the original Library and I was able to download that to my external harddrive. I have spending pointless, arduous hours pointing Itunes to the correct file. Its faster to re-download the CD. Of course, I can't do that for any music I had bought from Itunes directly. Its weird because the name of the song is in Itunes, just the file can't be found. And why every other file? When I go into earlier (6 and before)Itunes Libraries, the music files are missing from them. Where did they go? When I try to sync my Ipod with Itunes, it takes forever because Itunes is searching for the missing files. I have tried to ask Apple support directly but I have gotten no response. Very, very frustrating! Any headway with your problems? Lisa

    Hello,

My friend's Samsung MP3 player doesn't work, after some research I find out that the MP3 player has to be an MTP one to work with the car audio. Now my question is: are all Creative MP3 players MTP maschines and do I have to make a software update or what ever to "make them be" a MTP player?

Are you sure about this? Which Kenwood is it exactly? The info I've seen on the Kenwoods say that the USB device must be MSC (not MTP).
Perhaps your friend's Samsung is MTP, and that's why it didn't work.
