MPEG 1  to MPEG 4 then file import to final cut express ??  Not happening

Hello, I am complete newbie ! I have mpeg 1 files I am trying to edit. Final Cut won't allow me to import.
Used Handbrake to convert MPEG 1 to MPEG 4 , still would not allow me to import.
What to do ?
-Tony

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert your MPEG1 videos to either QuickTime/DV-NTSC or +QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.+
Also make sure you select the matching *Easy Setup* in FCE before you create the sequence you want to edit these videos in. This is so the sequence settings match your clip properties when you import the converted files.
Handbrake is not the right app for this purpose.
Also, I highly recommend that you get a copy of Tom Wolsky's excellent book Final Cut Express Editing Workshop and watch the tutorials on Izzy Video

  • How to Encoding MPEG Movie to be able to import into Final Cut Express

I have MPEG Movie video clips that were sent to me. Title dvdMovie1chapter26.mpg (21.6MB) given to me from a PC taken on dvd video camera and compiled on CD disk. I would like to edit in Final Cut Express 4.0. I can not import in present form. Have used HandBrake and Toast 8 to encode. Divx and AVI to grainy. Have tried to make QuickTime Movie but 21.6 MB file went to 115.6 GB. Not sure how to set QuickTime options (Formats-Audio-Video Setting) in Toast 8 to encode with good quality this file so I can import into Final Cut Express. I will not have enough disk space to do all the video clips at 110 GBs or more per file. When I drag this file into Toast 8 with DVD-Video selected the file come into Toast as a Video-MPEG-2 720x480 29.97fps and Audio- Dolby Digital, Stereo 48000Hz File. Any Ideas?

How long is the movie? DV is 3.6MB/second. Handbrake is no good for this. I don't know if Toast will do it, but you can try MPEG Streamclip. You want to export to QuickTime using the DV NTSC codec at frame size of 720x480 and 29.97fps.

  • Dropping an audio track onto a PSD  file imported into Final Cut Express

I created a credits page for my video in Photoshop and then imported it into Final Cut Express (Version 1.0). I then duplicated part of an audio track from another sequence (My friend's father playing the organ), and dropped it onto the Photoshop credits sequence. It displayed and played nicely in Final Cut Express, but did not create an audio track which was visible within Final Cut Express. When I exported the sequence as a .mov file and then imported that into iDVD, it also displayed and played correctly in iDVD. But when I burned the DVD, there was no longer any audio with the credits. Any suggestions?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks so much for your response. I selected and copied tracks A1 and A2 from one sequence and then pasted them into the credits (Photoshop) sequence. No audio tracks appeared in the Photoshop sequence, but we could hear the audio when we played the Photoshop sequence.
There was video associated with the original organ track, and we did not lock off the video when we dropped it into the Timeline, although there didn't seem to be any problem with the video. We did not Mixdown the audio either, although no audio tracks were displayed in the Photoshop sequence. I will try both of those things and see if it makes a difference. Thanks again.

  • Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Absolutely.  Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  Make sure you check the Self-Contained box.  The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added.  Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

  • File Compatibility between Final Cut Express and iMovie '09

I am in the process of converting some old VHS tapes to DVD so I can import and edit them in Final Cut Express or iMovie '09 (I'm upgrading from iMovie '08). I would like to transfer them to a file format that I can use in either application.
Are the file formats the same in both applications or is there one in particular that I should use? I know that it is possible to open a video move created in iMovie '09 in Final Cut Express, but there some situations where I want to go in the other direction. i.e. Import the raw file that was created to be imported by Final Cut Express by iMovie '09 instead.
    Bob

It would be better if you did not get them transfered to DVD. This is a highly compressed format. If you can get the material transfered directly to QuickTime using the DV NTSC codec you would be better off.
The file formats in iMovie and FCE are not the same. iMovie uses DV Stream. FCE uses QuickTime.

  • MP4 (MPEG-4 MOVIE) FILE IMPORT TO FINAL CUT PRO X

I have some MP4 files I am unable to import into Final Cut Pro X from a Hard Drive.  1920x1080, Codecs: MPEG-4 Video, Linear PCM, Audio Channels: 2 Total Bit Rate: 35,253 ...
Any suggestions as to what steps I need to take to be able to import them into Final Cut Pro X ???

Okay, I fugured it out  ... the footage I was provided was from a Sony XDCAM source  ...  the link below gave the information needed  ...
Final Cut Pro X: Importing Sony XDCAM media     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4724
Just follow the instructions ...  the sony documentation for the two downloads indicated that this would not work for FCP X ...  but it did work fine ...

  • "Unable to open project file" message in final cut express 3.5.1

I have (well had now) a project with 3 video clips and multiple .psd files as stills. When the project contains just the 3 video clips and a couple of transitions I can save the project and quit Final Cut Express and relaunch FCE and when I try to re-open the same project, it opens just fine, without any problems and just the way I expected it to be. After editing the same project for a couple of hours and saving along the way (this has happened twice now and I don't think the length of time of editing matters) and adding multiple still images to the 3 video clips (this part is new in my working with FCE); I save and quit. When I return to open the same project I get the message "Unable to open project file" and click the OK button, which is my only option and I am given a new blank project. So where did my work go???

Thank you for the response, but it hasn't worked yet...
I read the link. I am working off my internal drive.
I re-named the Capture Scratch folder, and any Render folders and then launched FCE. I was presented with a window that reads "To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Express HD, it is necessary to ensure the existance of the following path(s)" The path in the box below is where my project file and support files are. My 3 options are Quit, Check again and Reset Scratch disk. I choose the Reset Scratch Disk button and it took me to the Scratch Disk window and I Set/Created a new folder and clicked Choose and then OK back at the Scratch Disk window and Continue at the initial window... the Reset Scratch disk button is now labeled Continue. I am given a new Untitled Project work space. I tried to open my project file and once again with the message "Unable to open project file".
    Where did I go wrong???

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • LiveType Won't Import into Final Cut Express

I recently purchased the new Macbook Pro and migrated Final Cut Express and LiveType from my old iMac to my MBP. However, when I try importing LiveType text to FCE, I get the following message:
    +File Error: Unknown file.+
Did I forget to copy something over when I migrated?

migrated Final Cut Express and LiveType...
There's your problem. FCE places lots of files at system level, many of them in invisible folders. Migration Assistant does not copy these properly.
You must use the original discs to install FCE & LiveType.

  • DV MXF import to Final Cut Express

All the online talk about importing MXF files into Final Cut have been about importing variations of HD in Final Cut Pro. My simple question is can I import complete MXF files at DV quality (or convert them before hand) in Final Cut Express?
I currently can only import the video and audio tracks separately into Final Cut Express.

FCE only works with DV from tape capture. If you have DV in an MXF wrapper, FCE cannot bring it in.

  • Final Cut Express Not Opening File

    Hullo,
I bought Final Cut Express last weekend, and received it in the mail on Tuesday. I began using that night. When the night was through, I saved my project and shut my computer down. The next morning, I got up to go back to work on the project. When I opened the project file, Final Cut Express launched succesfully. However an error message popped up stating
"The project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut."
I then closed out of that, and created another file with just one of the QuickTime sample files, I ran several edits on it, saved it, and quit. When I reopened it, it worked. So I restarted working on the first project. When I was done for the night, I saved it, and quit. I then just went to reopen it to make sure it worked, but it didn't. It brought up the same error message.
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dmitry.

Thank you very much. I went in search of the Final Cut Express .PList, but it wasn't anywhere to be found on my computer. I had thought I had re updated everything recently, but apparently not. Final Cut Express 4.0.1 was one of the options. So I installed it and restarted my computer and launched my project file. It opened up the way it was supposed to, but it came up with a message that said that the project was from an older version and needed to be and could be updated to the new version. I did just that and now it works like a charm.
Thanks again for all of your help.
    Dmitry

  • Final cut pro 7 files autosaving as final cut express files

    Greetings!
Running a Macbook Pro with Final Cut 7 on it.... our office had it pre loaded with FCE 4 until we got final cut loaded on it. Never used FCE... I happened to be looking for an autosaved version of a final cut pro project I was working on and noticed that all the autosaved files for that FCP project and all of my other FCP projects had been autosaved as Final Cut Express files. It required the registration of FCE 4 in order to open them. I was able to grab one, dupe it and open it in FCP... but what caused that?

When you have both apps installed you sometimes get a crossover of files/icons but I have never had any problems opening any of the files.
If you don't need FCE again you could delete it using http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm
Make sure you deselect FCP and all the FCS apps and media otherwise you will have to reinstall them again!
Incidentally, registering FCE will have absolutely no effect on whether or not you can open them or did you mean you updated FCE.

  • HDV 24P importing into Final Cut Express?

I am trying to import a QuickTime clip Codecs: HDV720p24 - from Final Cut Pro into FC Express but unable to. The video clip come in with only sound no pic. Does FC express import HDV 24p??? and if so how do I find that codec. Please help..thanks

Thank you Tom... is there a way to export the file in a readable format from FCP? It seems there is a codec for HDV720p30 but not p24... I was told when I ought FCE that it would be able to transfer files from one format to the next. Is this a lie?

  • Max AVI file size into Final Cut Express?

I am a complete newcomer to mac and FC - About to begin loading all my old video onto disk. If I stream 90 min of Hi8 into one AVI file it will be easiest but will the file be too large for FC Exp - is there a file size limit or not - I am assuming not.

Sorry, simply my old Adobe Premier/Windows background - simply wanted to know whether there was any file size limit in FC however I have just captured and imported a complete tape so clearly not.
