Mpeg-2 Audio

I have just started with apple and express. Used earlier windows and Ulead media pro.
For the reason to use old video, I bought D2187H/A QuickTime MPEG-2-komponent.
In quicktime it is ok, but then I import into Final Cut Express the audio is lost.
Any suggestions? I am from Norway and use pal.

Welcome norman45 to the  boards ..
.. In quicktime it is ok, but then I import into Final Cut Express the audio is lost.
yepp, that is the correct behavior ..
mpegs are 'muxed', means: audio+video are not separated streams, an edit as FCE needs.. on playback no prob, on import, the mp2 video gets converted by the underlying QTengine, but audio gets lost (=QT lacks a 'demuxer')
workaround: convert before import.
use the free tool *Mpeg Streamclip* http://www.squared5.com/ .
open your mpegs, convert to Quicktime/dv (for SD sized content) or QT/AppleIntermediate (for HD) ..
(btw: SC needs the mp2-component! you did purchase the right thing....)

  • Importing MPEG-4 audio files into itunes

    Hi,
I am a new user of iTunes. I am unable to import MPEG-4 audio files from an audio CD into my iTunes library. This audio CD was created by a friend on his MAC.
Interestingly, I am able to play the same MPEG-4 files through my Windows Media Player. I have the most recent and updated versions of Quicktime (7.4.5) and the most updated iTunes player for Windows (7.6.2.9). Coincidentally, the same audio CD has some MP3 files which I am able to import into iTunes with no problem.
    Would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Incidentally, I am able to play these same MPEG-4 files through my QuickTime player just fine.
    Thanks.

  • Why are some songs in a "protected MPEG-4 audio" format

Why are some songs I've purchased in a "protected MPEG-4 audio" format?

iTunes store used to sell its music that way several years ago, but then removed DRM protection as a standard format I think 2 years ago.  How long ago did you make the purchase?  I don't think they still use it on any audio now, but it is definitely used on video.

  • Converting MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected) to MP3

New user purchasing tunes for my Lyrica MP3 player using daughters setup for IPod. Tunes downloaded in MPEG-4 audio file format and are 'protected'. When trying to convert to MP3 it won't because of its protected status. How can I convert them? If I already purchased the songs, can I go back and download them again in the MP3 format? Did I just waste my gift card and need to purchase them all again downloading them in MP3 format? Thanks

I too am interested in this answer. I am trying to copy files from my son's Itunes library to his PSP and it will not play protected files.

  • Where to find MPEG-1 Audio Layer II Codec?

I have a Samsung Digimax V700 digital camera which can create movies saved as .AVI and when the file is played through QuickTime I can see pictures but I can't hear and audio. QuickTime's Movie Properties report the video track as Generic MPEG-4 and the audio as '.mp2' (including quotes).
Subsequent research has stopped me confusing the .mp2 with the MPEG-2 video format, I found that it's MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio, but I cannot find a suitable codec for it.
I do have other solutions: use another player such as VLC, which plays the video just fine (except that I'd like to be able to play videos through Front Row), or convert the movie's soundtrack to mp3 or similar (except I'd like to keep the video's modification date and time the same, so they appear in the correct place when sorting by date.
When I first load up the movie, QuickTime reports that some required components are missing and offers me a web page of suppliers who don't make the MPEG-1 Audio Layer II codec (as far as I can see). So, does anybody know where I can get a suitable audio codec?

Anyway, I did at least RTFM before I posted here and installed the codec (and I searched the forum before posting, too!).On my system (old PPC G5), the "3ivX D4 4.5.1 for OSX" (which I see you have) and the "XVIDDelegate" (which I don't see) caused a conflict between AVI oriented media and which component would assume playback control. Since you have at least 5 or 6 components that have, at least some, AVI playback capability, would suggest you run a conflict test at this point.
I thought DivX was a video codec only?It is basically a proprietary update of AVI put out by DivX. Their proprietary compression format(s) now have the .divx extension, but the software still handles media contained in the older AVI container.

  • I want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.

  • File Error: Wrong Type with MPEG-4 Audio File

Help! I am trying to import an MPEG-4 Audio File into Final Cut Express2 but I keep getting a 'File Error: Wrong Type' message. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem. I really need this song for my video. PQu

iTunes - check your iTunes preferences:
    Preferences > Importing -
    - select Import Using AIFF encoding
    - select Custom
    - select Sample Rate 48.000 kHz
    - select Sample Size 16 bit
    - select Channels stereo
Then import your MP4 into iTunes
Then control-click on the track name in iTunes, select Show Song File, which will open a Finder window from which you can copy your AIFF file to any location you want it.

  • Is MPEG-1 Audio Layer2 16 bit 48 kHz sound DVD ready?

Is MPEG-1 Audio Layer2 16 bit 48 kHz sound DVD ready? That is the audio format my Sony HDR-FX1 records, so I was curious if this can be burned straight to a DVD along with the MPEG-2 video the camera shoots.

i just dont want my audio format changing ... i capture in final cut pro 5.1.
Final Cut - and, for that matter, most audio editors that I'm aware of - will only work with uncompressed sound. This is because it is expected that you will want to change the content in some way, whether by changing levels, mixing tracks together, or equalising/treating the source recordings. This is not possible with compressed sound: it is really just designed for playback, and uses quite serious acoustic masking techniques. The same does not apply to frame-based compressed video (like DV or HDV), where you can leave it as is while editing for a lot of the time.
Are you sure that your camera doesn't record uncompressed sound as well as the .mpeg1? If so, it would be natural for FCP to transfer this, and ignore the compressed version. Alternatively (if it doesn't) the sound is being converted to an uncompressed format on the fly so that you can edit it.

  • Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?

Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?  I copied these files to my iMac from an old PC laptop that no longer has internet access.

After downloading via iTunes, I move MP3 files from the default iTunes podcast folder to another folder (on an a external disk), I also change the name of the file and I change some MP3-tags.
You download from the iTunes store, delete the podcast, mess with it, move it around, rename it, change the tags then try to add it back to iTunes?
I want all my files in one index, the iTunes Music Library
In iTunes, right click - get info, click the Options tab and set *Media Kind:* to Music.

  • Keynote-to-Quicktime-Mpeg-No Audio

    Hi all,
-Made a great Keynote presentation with audio.
    -Exported as Quicktime file.
-Trying to use Quicktime PRO to make into MPEG.
-MPEG doesn't recognize the audio file
Can someone help me merge the two into the MPEG? The Quicktime file plays the audio with video, but upon condensing the file to MPEG, splits them up.
    Thanks much,
    blahgeetsa

I see my option to convert to Mpeg-4...I'm trying to email a large 41mb Quicktime file to a client....don't need alot of bells and whistles, just the ability to make the file palatable.
Since you say the QT Pro does not seem to like your source file audio and you still refrain from stating what compression formats and/or workflow was used in the source file, I would probably recommend you try MPEG Streamclip (free) here to eliminate certain problems you may have had with QT Pro. This application contains an "iPod" preset option which may suit your purposes and preserve your audio content at the same time. In any case, the iPod preset can be found in the "Export to MPEG-4" File menu option window. If you download the beta 2 version, you have a number of display size options (basically 640 or 320 widths at various preset aspect ratios) which may or may not suit your source file whose display size you have yet to mention. Suffice it to say, the smaller the display size, the the higher the quality you can achieve in a smaller file size. If the preset options don't suit your needs, you can, of course, modify them as you wish. Since you neglected to mention the duration of your source movie, it is difficult to estimate how small you can make your target file. Basically, a 320x240 display, reasonably good quality H.264/AAC (mono) file can be made at about 384 Kbps total average data rate (320 video/64 audio) which equates to slightly less than 4 MBs/min of duration. An MPEG-4 would require roughly 3 times as much space for the same quality or you could settle for poorer quality at the same data rate. Larger display sizes in the iPod can go as high as 12 MBs/min, so I assume you are will want to stick to the lower end data rates. Lower data rates are possible, but will undoubtedly further reduce the final audio/video quality. Some additional settings can be used to "redistribute" data, but I won't go into those here until/unless your can provide more specific information.

  • MPEG Streamclip Audio Glitch

Hi, I've been using MPEG Streamclip without any problems... until recently. Has anyone else experiened audio dropping out or glitching when exporting mov's from VOB's?
The audio keeps dropping out in the same place, even when I run MPEG streamclip on a different G5. Playing back the DVD, the audio is fine, it's only when you listen to the mov that you hear the glitches.
Is this a common error? If so, what can do the job of MPEG Streamclip, without the nonsense with the audio glitching?

Well, not if the DVD plays back fine with no glitches. It's only the mov from MPEG Streamclip that has audio issues. I also used Drop2DV on the same VOB and the audio came out fine, however the lack of control in exporting makes me want to figure out what is wrong with MPEG Streamclip.

  • PC user w/ Audio wma files and Itunes MPEG-4 audio files in separate folder

My husband has an mp3 player that uses the wma format, so we have a lot of songs in the audio folder. Initially I simply transferred all of them into the itunes folder and they were converted to mpeg-4 format. Now as more files have been added to the audio folder, I would like to convert them to mpeg-4 and get them into my itunes folder. I can't seem to figure out how to find the ones that aren't already in the folder and just transfer those. It wants to transfer all of them and then I have duplicate songs. Anyone have any ideas?

Have had no trouble in the past but now it's everything I download.
So all these things used to play in Quicktime and iTunes and won't? Downloaded now and in the past?  Even previous mp4s? This is what I gather from your last statement.
Have you changed the file extensions to match those for mp4s iTunes will accept?
Have you updated any media related software on your computer since everything last worked?

  • Encore Transcodes MPEG-2 Audio & Bitrate Error During Build

Encore transcodes the audio but the audio is already MPEG-2. The video and audio assets have following properties:
    .mpv = 8.0 Mbit/s maximum (VBR 6-8 MB)
    .mpa = 0.2 Mbit/s fixed
And during transcoding the error "Bitrate to High" stops the build process. Is there somewhere a limiter in action, or what is it?

    Sir Wilkes...
Okay, I set the Bitrate to 9.4 Mbit/s, let's see if it works thru...
    mpa:
The audio should be "MainConcept MPEG-Audio MPEG-1 Layer II-Audio" in stereo, however I have no program affirm that. The import works, I was just surprised that the audio gets transcoded, possibly to Dolby Digital. This company always delivers mpa's since they work with Avid. I have the video transcoded right there since the Avid 1x1 uncompressed quicktime codec does not work with any Adobe products, well, normally we do the Avid stuff on Mac but my boys are filming in London and Greenland so le chef has to do this one by himself.
    This DVD is PAL.

  • My MPEG video/audio goes out of sync

    Hi
I am importing some MPEG- 2 video clips into Premiere Pro. They are totally in sync before I import them but once in Prmeiere the video and audio are no longer in sync. The format is MPEG-2 video, 1920 x 1080,25fps, 48000hz.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks
    Miranda

    Hi there
Thanks very much, I donwloaded the MediaInfo software.
So the clips came from a Sony NXCam using a Black Magic stem and VMix to record with.
The files are MPEG2 1920 x 1080 as you can see in the screenshot.
The file info in Premiere says they are pixel aspect ratio 1.0
As for codec information, where can I find this?
    Regards

  • PE 8 - MOV  H.264  MPEG-4 audio out of sync!

I have Premiere Elements 8 that I am running on Windows 7.  The program is awesome, I love it, and works very well.  I have been taking video clips with a Cannon SD750 (AVI) and a Kodak Zi8 (MOV), both at 30 frames per second.  Both formats import in to PE 8 with no problems and I can easily edit everything the way I want to.  My problem is in the output.  When I output a WMA, AVI or regular MPEG file, the video and audio are beautiful.  When I output MOV or MPEG-4, which is required for the JW Player on my website, the audio falls out of sync at various times.  The longer the MOV/MPEG-4 video, the worse the sound is off by the end of the clip.
I have tried several different ways to remedy this - adding a low level white noise soundtrack, changing audio bitrate settings, changing video frame settings, adjusting other settings, and I get the same result.
Anybody have any ideas about this?
    Thanks,
    Zack

I too have encountered this out of sync issue when outputting to 720p H.264 using the MOV container. The audio ends up being faster than the video. I have posted this same problem at ElementsVillage. I played with the settings and the only way I could make the video/audio to sync is not to use AAC sound... When I set the sound to uncompressed the audio/video are back in sync. The problem with this work around is that the MOV file becomes bigger.
For now, I have decided to stick to 720p H.264 using MP4 container (this is enabled when you chose profile 4 when selecting the portable iTouch option for sharing - thanks to ATR at Elements Village for these tips). This does not have any audio/video sync issues but the video quality is not as good as MOV for the same bitrate but it is close (I am using 5000 kbps).
Lots of issues with PRE8, I do hope Adobe patches them.
