Mpeg-2 camcorder movie play in quicktime but no sound

I bought a camcorder that saves files to its hard disk as MPG (MPEG-2). I got the extension mpeg-2 so that I could open them in quicktime. I've got the video but no audio. Any ideas?

How can I move movies from my computer to my iPad? They will play with quicktime but not iTunes so I can't sync them

Th AVPlayerHD works well for playing other video types.  You can transfer the videos via USB in the app tab in iTunes on your computer.  When you open that tab when you have you iPad connected to the computer scroll down and you will see apps listed on the left and a blank on the right.  Click on the app and then click on the add button under the blank window on the right.  Then navigate to the video you want to play and it will transfer it to the iPad.  I have about 14 movies on mine using AVPlayerHD.  works very well.  Also have VLC player (before it was yanked from the app store).  Works about the same.
You can also get the app Air Video and stream the video to from your computer to the iPad, and even have Theo ad connected to the tv to watch on there.  I do that all the time with my iPhone.  Saves time with not having to sync movies all the time.

  • Using Lion, recent Movies with .mov extension will not play in Quicktime, but earlier ones taken with same camera (Kodak M530) will play fine.

Using Lion, recent Movies with .mov extension will not play in Quicktime, but earlier ones taken with same camera (Kodak M530) will play fine. I have got VLC which runs them fine but cannot get movies saved in iPhoto to play in VLC...and of course its a real bugger to copy moves from iPhoto to another folder; in fact if anyone can tell me how to do that I will accept defeat!

  • My video plays on quicktime but crashes on iTunes

I have Mp4's that play on quicktime but when I try to play them on iTunes they crash. Is that an iTunes problem they have to fix with a new update or is there a fix for the app crash I don't know about? Please help, I'm trying to Airplay some movies.  Mp4 and Mkv files.

Well well, it seems we'll be able to record the new songs after all. I found my own solution and quite reasonably so.
A little app called Music Converter took all my MP3's and converted them to an iTunes format in the click of a button. So simple in fact, even this Luddite managed to figure it out.
Hope this helps someone else and didn't waste anyone's time.
    Cheers.

  • .mov playing in iTunes but not Quicktime

Please bear with me as I try to explain this as best as possible.
I have an issue where .mov files will not play properly in quicktime (i.e. skipping, static, just messing up). However .mov files all work fine in iTunes and with other video apps.  The odd part that confuses me is that I can play .mov files off quicktime fine from my external hard drive...but the errors happen in quicktime when I play the files off the computer.
    Help? Suggestions anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

Gosh it took me a half hour to log back in here .. I sometimes think they differentiate between the iTunes password and the Apple password .. so irritating.
Okay .. there is something I just found out that is important for me so obviously I am not an expert on this but now I am sure it is a codec that must be your problem and the reason why it is happening on your computer as opposed to (what did you say you were successful at using it on .. an external hard drive) your external hard drive is that the hard drive probably does not have other codecs installed. I have a million codecs (*.dll, *.ax) and if you do a search for those file types in your QuickTime folder you will see quite a few of them. I think though also there are some under Sys32 .. you know the Windows folder.
    okay so now
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=Windows&ctype=696d64 63&csubtype=574d5633
that link has some outside codecs that install on QuickTime .... BUT the thing that may be even more important is that if you are like me perhaps I did not purchase the
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL837
    QuickTime Pro 7 registration code
I have tried to purchase as many codes or codecs that I could to make my QuickTime Pro work better .. and there has been no message for me to purchase a registration code after the one that I already have. But also I purchased the MPEG 2 codec and I am sort of lost on that one because I have to find out if that has an upgrade.   The thing is .. is the version of QuickTime Player that I just installed SEPARATE from iTunes .. usually I upgrade them both at the same time but I was trying to see if there were some codecs that I could purchase separately for my QuickTime Pro and I noticed on the Apple QuickTime site that their version was higher than the one last installed with iTunes. So now I installed the separate QuickTime Pro lates version (I thought .. but when does that ever apply for longer than 24 hours ... geez I get tired of all of this upgrading!) and it says it is  Version 7.7 (1680.34) ... which is annoying when you now ask a question about why there is no codec in your QuickTime Pro to be allowing it to open an *.avi file and it sends you to the link of the iTunes download (with QuickTime of course which is about 90 MBs .. at least ) and all the upgrade version says is 7.7!
This is all too frustrating I know. You have to really make sure that your iTunes program though is NOT associating with the *.mov file type. You have to see what program is associated with the *.mov and the *.qt file types. Then also like me check to see if you need to buy this QuickTime Pro 7 registration code. Then also do a scan of your *.dll and *.ax codecs and see if you have one that is interfering with the QuickTime Pro playing *.mov files.
Do you have another media player program besides iTunes and QuickTime?  Like for example Windows Media Player?  I have plenty and have been trying to get enough codecs so that I can just use all of the programs with all of the file types. (good luck)
well anyway hope I did not confuse you   - If you find out anything about the QuickTime Pro 7 Registration code versus the 6 (I bought my QuickTime Pro way before even 6 came in) then let me know.

  • Some videos not playing in Quicktime but WILL play on VLC Player

    Hello,
All of a sudden, some of my video files will not play on Quicktime. OT reads the length of the movie but when I click play, all I get is a black screen and no sound even though the progress bar rolls per usual. When I open the videos in my VLC Player, the play just fine. This is not with all of my movies. Some movies play fine in Quicktime. Also, if this helps, Final Cut X will not recognize these movie files for import. Am using Quicktime 10.1.
    Thoughts? Help? Anyone?
    Thanks,
    John

    Jon Walker wrote:
The .dv videos that will NOT play:
I suspect you may have a number of problems here. The first is having elementary DV and PCM audio streams in a DV stream file container. (I.e. DV/DV audio and video stream data is normally stored in the DV file container while DV/PCM data is normally wrapped in the MOV file container.) The second problem is the fact that the DV video seems to be missing the aspect ratio "aware" information. As you can see from the playing file, the format line should read either
    720 x 480 (640 x 480)
    or
    720 x 480 (853 x 480)
Based on this, I am wondering how old this file may be and/or how it was captured. (I.e., the playback problem may be due to file container not being compatible with the QT X player which, in fact, relies on an embedded aspect ratio parameter rather than the QT 7 embedded "Current Size" setting and is not expecting PCM audio to be contained in a DV stream file container.
These videos are older (almost 10 years old) and they were edited in iMovie HD.
In addition, there is a question (at least for me) as to whether the DV video streams are embedded sequentially or as alternative video tracks. (I.e., if you have QT 7 Pro installed, please post a copy of the "Properties" window.
Installed QT 7 and videos play fine. No issues. I don't have QT7 Pro.
Not sure if this will work, but if I had a copy of the non-playing file, the first thing I would try would be to open the file in MPEG Streamclip and re-save the data to a "real" MOV file container to see if it would then be playback compatible with the QT X player app.
Tried Streamclip and it will save as MOV but the size changes (from 640x480 to 720x480 and I get a stretched look. OT X will play it however. Tried to "export" using differrent formats but with mixed results. Sometimes I got sound but no video. I will continue to fiddle with settings but it doesn't seem like a reliable path to go down.
Could I be missing the codec component? Is there a way to check?
Not very likely if any files play have the same video compression format. Had the non-playing files been encoded with one of the HD DV codecs, then yes, that might have been a possibility whould could have been checked.
Would your answer be the same now that we know QT7 plays the videos without any issues?
Exported out to a .dv file. Format exact same as the working one above. Plays fine.
Of course. You exported the audio and video as a DV compressed data in DV stream file container. Thus, both the file format and compression format are now QT X compatible.
The container is a .dv. I did rename it to .mov at one point to see if that helped but got the same result.
Of course. Changing the file extension is like calling a cup of coffee a glass of coffee—i.e., the coffee is still in a cup. Basically, this only works if the data in the container is already compatible with the file container and the container is compatible with the player. For instance, H.264/AAC compressed data will play in either QT 7 or QT X players whether it is in an MOV, MP4, or M4V file container. On the other hand, "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 data won't play in the QT X v10.2 player with a VOB file extension but will play if you change the extension to TS or MPG. On the other hand, the VOB or MPG file (with the QT MPEG-2 playback codec component installed) will play in both QT 7 (without audio) and MPEG Streamclip while the TS file won't open in the QT 7 player but plays fine with audio in MPEG Streamclip.
    I THINK I understand! : )
I do have a DropBox folder.
If you also have an online DropBox account, then yes, that would be a good method for posting large files. You then only have to post or email the URL to the people you want to have access to the data.
True. One of the issues is that I want to re-edit some of these files which means I need to get them into FCP. I know there is a workaround, i.e. importing them into iMovie like I did and then spitting them out again so they will play but I feel like I am losing quality that way. Aren't I? This was before I started saving projects so I could always go back into them. Plus, I really want to preserve the original files for backup sake.
Jon, thanks again for taking your time with me. Really apprecite it.

  • Movie plays in iTunes but not on ATV2

Too bizarre.... I have the original 2 discs of a great German movie - Das Boot - which I converted (using Handbrake) into 2 separate m4v files and then combined (using QT Pro 7.6.6) into one file which saves as a .mov file. Plays fine using Quicktime (any version) and even plays fine in iTunes, but doesn't play at all through ATV2. If I highlight the movie in iTunes and then (under the Advanced menu) try to "Create iPad or Apple TV Version" I'm told that it's already in the correct format. I tried converting the .mov file to m4v using Handbrake and the resulting file (m4v) plays fine in iTunes and QT (any version) but in ATV2 the second disc part has no audio (but the subtitles have always been OK). I went to the Handbrake forum but nobody seems to know how to fix the problem or they simply aren't answering my questions. My final attempt to solve the problem is to export (using QT Pro 7.6.6) "Movie to Apple TV" but it's looking like it's going to take a few hours to convert a 3 1/2 hr movie file (about 2 GB) and I have my doubts that it'll even finish the conversion or that it will play on ATV2 ultimately. Does anyone have any idea what's happening and how I can fix the problem?

  • Problem: Flash movie plays on desktop, but not on website

Hi, I'm new to Flash but have successfully created a Flash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:
    http://www.cantata.co.uk/temp2/minorswing.html
but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning. The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
Can anyone suggest what the problem may be? I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.

Thanks - I don't know what as2 is. I'm using Flash CS5. When I import the flv movie file, I'm asked to choose a skin and then a window comes up to tell me that the address of the flv file with respect to the other files will be minorswing.flv by which I take it to mean that all the files need to be in the same level of folder (directory). All five are in the same folder on my Mac and in the same folder on my website. I can't see how I can influence the program in choosing a different structure or outputting different html in the Publish Settings or elsewhere.
I would have expected the relative structure of the files to be maintained between my desktop, where I can play the movie in my browsers, and the website, where I can't. I was surprised there was no "src" param name in the html, and I did try inserting one, but it made no difference, so I assumed the default for the html is to be in the same folder as the html and that the minorswing.swf file would contain information on the whereabouts of the flv file and the skin swf file.
Is there a way of reading or editing the swf files to include an absolute url?

  • Images enlarge and movies play in iweb, but not when published

Everything works fine in the program, but when published to site or folder, photos are there, but won't enlarge. The movie thumbnail shows with the little movie icon in the corner, but clicking does nothing.

On all of your pages  you have an image that appears to cover the photos preventing them from being clicked on.
Move it to the back via the Arrange menu or get rid of it.
How did you add the videos to the page?  If you just dragged them onto the page or used the movie page then iWeb will have to upload them when it publishes the page and all will load when the page is accessed which can cause long loading time for the page.
Also thre are some files missing for the TV page as seen in the Activity window (Command+Option+A) for the page. Publish the site to a folder on your hard drive and open it there.  Check to see if the movies play OK (after you fix that overlaying image issue). If they do then the problem lies in the uploading of the files.
If those files are Quicktime then the viewers must have Quicktime installed on their computer in order to view them.  See this page on Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site for methods of presenting movies that will let all computers view them: Player-Showcase.html.  See the list at the right for different players you can use.

  • Help, I'm drowning...movies play on computer but not in DVD players

a problem i seem to have with my videos is that when I am done, they play on computers using dvd player apps but when I burn them to a DVD to play in a DVD player they do not play correctly. It drops frames or looks like they skip or something..For instance they play for a couple of seconds, stop, continue to play, stop, continue to play...this goes on throughout the entire video.
What causes this to happen? I've experimented with different compression formats and get the same outcome. I also tried both DVD studio and Toast to burn the DVD and get same results with both.
Is there a basic setting that I am over looking? What is the format that everyone uses when using Compressor? Currently I go from FCP, to Compressor, to DVD...I have nearly went through all the compressor formats and still get jerky,stop/play/stop/play video when going to the DVD format....
    HELP...what am I over looking??

"....and you still haven't converted your audio to Dolby2 as I've suggested since my first post."
YES It was converted in compressor to a Dolby/ac3 file this morning when i mentioned it in my last post .."that I re-compressed it again as a "Best Quality 90...." and said that it fixed about 95% of the jerkiness..."
And since your first post i've only been at the project since this morning...not last night.and it was the first thing i tackled (and tried) when i got in ..When I posted the issue i was at home and not at the office, so Iwas not able to try anything until this morning
So let me re-explain what I have done to the file since 7:30 this AM..
I re-sent it to compressor, compressed at Best 90/Dolby ->AC3....I then opened DVDsp...I dragged both files...(the Mpeg file and the AC3 to the DVDsp window...Simulated and burned..I burn two copies. one for me, one for the client...we use two different DVD players. He says its still a lil jerky...I reply saying yes I saw it on my disc as well.
SO with being said and the file IS currently a dolby AC3...why would it still be jerky?
Would it have anything to do with footage being ripped from another disc?
I really appreciate the help you offering but it sounds like you are being condescending trough your answers and making it seem as though i am not doing what you suggest.

  • Movie plays in preview but not playing in chm

I've tried several different methods of adding flash video

I've added the files to the Baggage Files and the Multimedia

  • Front row plays dvd video but no sound

I tried several dvds in front row and I can't get any sound from them. I can play avi type movies, music and on but I get no sound from dvd's. I can play them on dvd player and get sound but not front row. been running into alot of quirks since the leopard upgrade. hope they patch it soon.

try to isolate the issue to front row by playing it in dvd player. you may get an error message saying that dvd player cannot run because it is being used by another program in which case you have to go to applications/utilities/activity monitor.app find the front row process and control-click quit process or highlight click quit in the upper left hand corner of activity monitor then select quit. run the dvd in dvd player.app and see if it repeats the problem. if not then most likely it's a front row issue. if it happens again try another dvd player software. if you find that it happens on both dvd player.app and front row but not a third then it would most likely be be a dvd player.app issue in which you locate the plist file in library/preferences/ quit out both front row and dvd player.app to ensure it doesn't recreate a duplicate plist file then move the original to trash then open dvd player.app and try again. if all of this fails and it seems hopeless before going to a fresh install or archive and install I recommend update install. I have used this to fix what seemed to be broken and incurable apps on several macs now with success. but try the other stuff first to save you some time if possible. as of now all of my apps other than those non-compatible with Leopard are functioning just fine with the occasional bump in the road. Fixes are necessary as there are quite a few needed but I ran into the same thing with Tiger when it first came out and Tiger was a great OS.

  • Corrupt songs will play in quicktime - but won't copy to HDD.

    Hi All,
Background/Symptoms: My macbook pro (2008 unibody) crashed a little while ago. It started being really sluggish, so I tried to install an update and during the update I got an error. I turned off the computer and it wouldn't boot past the apple logo. When I started it in Verbose mode I was getting a disk input output error.
    What I've tried:
    1. Took it to the genius bar, after the tests on the HDD he said that it appeared to be fine and to try reinstalling the OS.
    2. I tried booting it up in target disk mode to copy my files over to my imac and was able to get off a good portion of my documents. When I tried to copy over music I would get an error 36 saying that it couldn't be copied, I went through the artists individually and it said this for about 90% of them.
    3. I tried reinstalling snow leopard (that was my current OS) but about 1/4 the way through the install a big exclamation mark appeared and it said the install failed.
    4. After the failure above, I did an archive and install of Leopard (not snow leopard) and was able to get the OS up and running.
    Current Situation:
So with the semi success above, I can view my music in the previous systems folder from the macbook pro's new OS. When I try to add the music to itunes, it says it's corrupt and won't add. I get the same error (36) when I try to copy it from the previous systems folder to an external hard drive or just to the desktop of the macbook pro. Here is the weird thing. When I open the corrupt files in quicktime player, they play! On one of the songs that I'm testing, only the first 3 minutes plays and then it ends, but on most of the others it will play fully. Is there a way to scan for the corrupt songs and only copy over the ones that aren't corrupt?
Thanks in advance, please let me know if there are more details I can provide.
    ~Greg

I have experienced that when there is something a little quirky about the files. Personally, what I would do in your situation is use iTunes to convert the files to AAC using these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 Then see if the AACs transfer to the iPod.
