Mpeg 2 component

The mpeg 2 component I purchased does not appear to be working.  Here is the background.  I have a file that is mpeg 2, I am trying to open it, in the past, I have done everything short of buying the quicktime component.  The only program that can successfully [and I say that with a grain of salt] open the video is VLC.  Every time I try to convert it it comes out skittery with the VLC frame around it.  I finally broke down and bought the QT component but I still can't opent he video in QT, there is just no video at all.  I am crazy confused and hope that I am missing something very obvious.
Thanks

Cheers Kirk,
It`s slightly confusing, you`d expect a brand new purchase/download to be the latest version!
Many thanks

  • Quicktime Mpeg Component?

    Hello all,
nowthen, I am producing music videos for terrestial broadcast using Final Cut Studio that have to follow these requirements:
    extension: .m2p
    audio: mpeg2
    video: mpeg1
    video bit rate 8359kbs
    audio bitrate 384kbs
    lower field first
    constant bitrate
    closed GOP
I have tried exporting using Quicktime compression but the end user can't read the files and suggested I used Squared5 which when I use that I can't get to the export to Mpeg with MP2 audio, the option is is always subdued in colour.
I've tried downloading the update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update/
but the server cannot be found.
When I used Compressor the end user cannot read the files.
Can anyone (pleeeease) suggest what to do?
What should be the right format of export from Final Cut for Squared5 Mpeg Streamclip?
What plugin should or could I be using with quicktime instead?

Yes, it was late, and at the end of very long day, so I evidently needed to check the client's email. However, I am still at the same point, that being unable to properly convert music videos cut with graphics in Final Cut and exported as Mpeg2 .m2p files. On the Squared5 website under requirements it says:
"For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2). If you have either Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don't have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from Apple. If you bought an older version of the component, you can update it to the latest version (www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update). Note that the MPEG-2 component is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2 files."
when clicking on the second link there is this at the bottom of the screen:
"Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro and Final Cut Studio Users:
If you received your MPEG-2 Playback Component as part of Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio, you can download the update with your Final Cut Pro or DVD Studio Pro or Final Cut Studio serial number. Download Update."
However clicking on the 'Download Update' we're told the page no longer exists. Does the offer on the component for free no longer exist?
Is there a way of exporting from Final Cut Pro/Studio to the above format and specs with the setup and software that I already have, and if not what upgrade do I need?

  • The mpeg-2 component

    _the intro:_
I'm a little lost with the mpeg component that Apple sell as an add-on for a hefty £15
And a little annoyed with iMovie and iDVD as they don't seem to be compatible with THE main video files (the whole .mpeg / .mpg family).
I've downloaded the mpeg Streamclip software and it converts some .mpg files but not all of them (I don't understand the difference between these files, they're all from a handycam....).
    _the question:_
if I spend £15 on this mpeg add-on will that mean I'll be able to drag and drop files or import them to iDVD and iMovie? or will I still need to convert them to .mp4??

well, the easy way for me would be to use my camera, then take the memory card out and feed it into the laptop (whether mac or windows) and work off that.
Hooking the whole device by usb onto the laptop seems to me like the difficult/old/long way round way to do this... but it's ok, I understand this is the Mac way, not really complaining just commenting... For me at least, there's a point for windows in that aspect. And I have closed the door on windows so this means something admitting it !!

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10: MPEG Activation on multiple computers

    Hi,
We need to install this software to multiple computer labs in a school.
Problem: When one tries to export (share) his project and save it with MPEG-format (PC:MPEG),
The software gives a popup about visiting the Adobe site and activating the component. This cannot
be done without administrative rights (UAC pop up on a Windows 7 x64 system). The people using
the computer lab will not have administrative rights.
How can we activate the MPEG component beforehand on all the labs computers without user interaction?
Do we need to insert registry values? Does the process download something from the internet? Install?
    Thank you in advance.

Here is the response I received from the experts at Adobe.
Siddharth: May I know the exact error message you are getting/
robert: it is a UAC prompt from Windows (7, 64).
    robert: "register service"
robert: standard user can not activate it.  It must be done with Admin account.  Since I will use these computers in a lab environment, I do not want to give them admin accounts.
Siddharth: Robert, I am sorry to inform you that the UAC error is related to the system security.
    robert: yes, of course.
robert: which is prompted by activating the MPEG component from your software.
robert: is it not possible to run this software as a standard user?  Must the users have an admin account?
robert: to activate the MPEG component?
Siddharth: You can use the software but you will not be able to use certain functions in the software.
Siddharth: it is advisable to use the software in the Admin accounts.
robert: Is there a way for me to install this software such that this comonent is activated and does not prompt the user?
Siddharth: I am sorry, but that is not possible.
robert: I'm sure this software is often used in a lab that would not grant the users an admin account.
robert: is it correct that the MPEG activation happens everytime.  Shouldn't it be a one-time operation?
Siddharth: Robert, there are known permissions with the standard user accounts.
    robert: what does that mean?
Siddharth: This is not just related to Premiere Elements.
robert: so how do standard users use this program?  Are you saying it is impossible for standard users to export as MPEG?  I can't believe this is true.
Siddharth: Adobe does not recommend standard user accounts.
robert: There must be a way to activate the MPEG component for the standard users accounts so they are not prompted again and again for this.  It doesn't make any sense.
Siddharth: I would suggest you use the software in Admin account.
robert: this is very dissapointing.  and I know there must be a way to accomplish this.
Siddharth: I am sorry but I will not be able to help you with this.
    so... not much help here.

  • Lion OS with Quicktime playing MPEGs

I have been attempting to find a way to play MPEGs on my Macbook Pro. I downloaded OS Lion. The MPEGs would not play in this. I then downloaded the Streamclip MPEG application and the Quicktime MPEG Component package. I used Streamclip to install this. Even after doing this, the MPEGs would not play. I then converted them using Streamclip (to .mov) and these new converted files will STILL not play. All throughout I have gotten the same message  - that I am missing codecs needed to play the movies (even for the .mov ones).
Can anyone offer any help? I can see thumbnails of the movies now (which I couldn't before), but when I click them to play, they still won't play.
    I am running Quicktime Player V. 10.1
    OS X 10.7.3

"MPEG" is a kind of catch-all for multiple formats so it would help to know which specific mpeg codec.  There's various MediaInfo applications for OSX that will give you all kinds of details about the codecs used.
You may in general improve video playback with Quicktime with the help of
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.

I thought the good thing with a mac was you didn't need to buy extra software but I discover some plug-in or add-on I need to download all the time...

You can convert MPEG1 and MPEG4 without the MPEG2 playback component. To play back MPEG2, or for MPEG Streamclip to convert MPEG2 to something else, you need, you guessed it, the MPEG2 Playback component.

  • Flatten mpeg qt reference

    Hi
Does anyone know if the MPEG component for QT will allow me to flatten, save as a self contained movie, a quicktime reference movie when the references are an m2v and wav file respectively?
    thanks.

Thanks for that. Do you know if there is any way to flatten QT reference files where the reference points to an mpeg2 essence?
    Thanks.

  • How can I import video and sound from my sony camcorder?

I have just bought the mac.  I'm struggling to import video AND sound from my Sony DCR-SR87 hard disk handycam camcorder.  From what I've read already, I ended up purchasing and downloading Quicktime MPEG2, and used the Utility MPEG Component Lion from downloaded MPEG Streaming 1.9.3b6 to enable video and sound to play on the computer directly from the camcorder.  The problem is that when I import these clips using iphoto (it pops up when I connect the camcorder), the sound does not accompany the video onto the computer.  I've hit something of a brick wall and would really appreciate any help.

    OK, according to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
your camera is supported by iMovie 9.  Perhaps the question is better asked in the iMovie forum.  Would you like me to ask a moderator to move the thread?

  • Getting Sony movies into iMovie

I have Sony DSC H9 and HX1 digital cameras. The movies are quite good, but they don't seem to be compatible with iMovie. I have been able to xfer into iMovie HD by going through Quick Time. But doesn't see to work with iMovie 7.1.4. Sony says I need info from Apple. Can anybody help??

I am not sure your method is the right one when using Streamclip.
You are not supposed to open the .avi clip, just drag it onto Streamclip and drop it on the dotted square. Now you should see a view of the beginning of the clip within Streamclip. You don't need to play the clip there.
Now you select from the top menubar to 'Export to DV.'
When you tell Streamclip to 'export to DV' does a window come up asking where you want the dv clip saved?
I usually select 'desktop' so I can find it. It will have the same name as whatever your .avi's clip name is, but instead of the suffix .avi, it will be .dv.
When you see the clip converting, another smaller window of that clip, with somewhat jerky movements as the .avi clip is converting, should pop up automatically. Do you see that?
The Streamclip screen should show the beginning of your clip. It does not move and remains the same when the conversion is done. You should not be seeing a black screen there. In fact, I tried to make Streamclip give me a black screen and it would not do that at all.
Take that converted .dv clip and put THAT into your iMovie. (With iMovie 6, I just drag it in; not sure of the proper method with iMovie 9).
Is my description what you are doing and seeing?
Now, I should say that I have installed Apple's QuickTime MPEG component ($20): http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
Once installed, it works in the background and you don't have to do anything at all.
Maybe having it is what makes Streamclip work for me. If you are doing what I listed above and still not getting Streamclip to give you a converted clip, try getting the QT component and seeing if that helps. (Sorry I can't do anything about the $, but well-worth it if it solves the problem).
(Thanks for the compliment).....and yes, we women do like 'cute' cameras!
But, the information offered about yours on the sites I could find was really not helpful. You can find info about .avi that will explain better than I. Mainly, it is a container file that can have videos of different formats within it. Often, but not always, when camera specs are delineated, the specific format will be given, but I could find only one site once that gave MPEG-4 as your camera's video format. However, when I went back to find it again, I was not able to located it. Made me wonder if it is incorrect.....especially since iMovie 9 can recognize MPEG-4.

  • Is there a way to export with the same settings as the preview files?

I really like the quality of the preview files and was wondering what settings premiere uses by default for creating these previews on a HD project. I also played the mpeg files in VLC and they look just so much better than the highest possible quality h.264 (what I usually use). I did notice however that quicktime doesn't take these files, even with the mpeg component installed.

Not sure what your question has to do in respect to Apple networking, but if you're asking can you use your Xbox 360 on a wireless network (regardless of the router's manufacturer) to access different Xbox Live! accounts, then the answer is yes.

  • Export mpeg2 in Final Cut Expree

Maybe this topic has been covered, but I cannot find a clear answer to my problem. I have been searching the net for almost an hour! :P
I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1, QT7 pro with the Mpeg component. Mpeg Streamclip, and any number of open source programs.
I just need to export an mpeg2 video from final cut express, simple.
And before people start asking why... it for a solid state video player that requires MPEG2 or MPEG1

Hello, and welcome to the Final Cut Express forum.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to export MPEG2 or MPEG1 from FCE.
You might try ffmpegx. It's aging but people have reported it working fine in Snow Leopard (10.6.x)

  • Importing VOBs into iMovie

I ripped a non-copy protected DVD to disk and imported some of the VOB files into iMovie. I have the MPEG component in Quicktime (6 not 7).
The result was odd - a clip where every second frame was missing, and the remaining frames were duplicated. So the length of the clip stays the same, but we have stutter-vision.
Also no sound, but I guess VOBs don't contain the sound.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem. Working directly in Quicktime and exporting to DV produced the same result (playing the VOBs onscreen in Quicktime seemed OK though).
    Help!

  • Importing an HD 720 movie into an iMovie HD 720 project

    Hi everyone,
I'm kinda stuck with a video quality issue.
I downloaded a few HD 720p movie trailers from the Quicktime Movie Trailer website. They look simply great when I look at them with Quicktime Pro.
Because I'm a newbie to iMovie and iDVD, I wanted to make a little test project by making an compilation of a few of these trailers and then exporting them to iDVD to make a DVD.
I do not succeed in creating a DVD that has an acceptable video quality. At first, I believed this to be a problem with the way iDVD encoded my DVD and I did try all possible settings during the last couple of days.
Yesterday, I actually noticed for the first time that I already have this poor video quality in iMovie HD. I checked my playback video quality setting and it's set to Highest. When I drag an HD720 movie into iMovie and I hit the play button, the image quality is gone.
Instead of exporting it directly to iDVD, I also tried to export to a Quicktime movie with the Best Quality setting. The exported quicktime movie is nowhere comparable with the original HD720 movie. I'm not talking about a few minor details but a serious quality deterioration.
Does anyone have any advise here?
    Thanks,
    Jan
ps: I tried using an alternative application for creating a video dvd (Toast). Simply dragged the downloaded HD720 movie trailer in Toast and burned that to a DVD and the result was perfect!

Just an update for all concerned.
It seems I lost my Quicktime mpeg component when I upgraded to QT7. When I reinstalled that I was able to view the HD m2 file in both Quicktime and FCP 4.5. However, only the first seven mintues of an 80 minute movie.
When I import it into MPeg Streamline the entire file shows up and I am able to view it, but when I try to export it as a Quicktime the application quits, without warning.
Does anyone know how I can convert this file and get it into FCP?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Importing an HD 1080 80mbps m2v file

I would like to view a rather large (46 gb) m2v file that was made from our HD Master tape shot on the Sony Cinealta 900.
It's specs are as follows as I understand it:
    HD 1920 x 1080 psf 16 X 9 23.98 80 mbps
The file was encoded for digital cinema projection and I want to make sure the video is ok and line up an audio file to make sure it is in sync. At this point I don't need to edit it but in the future that might be nice.
I can't get it into FCP 4.5 (wrong file format?) DVD SP 4 (bit rate too high?) or convert it in MPEG streamclip (once I get it in, which takes forever, I can't view it and I don't know what codec to convert it to).
Is this file just too large for my little old G4 1.4 Ghz to handle or is there a way I can simply play back this file with some audio lined up underneath it to check for sync before we go to project it.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Mpeg2 problems

When playing mpeg2 files on the camera it plays perfectly. When importing the .mpg files in Quicktime or FCP there is no audio, but the picture plays perfectly well. The info on the file is mpeg muxed.
Any idea how I can get the audio from this files?

As mentioned in the articles pointed out by Neil you need the QuickTime MPEG component (included in FCP but not in FCE).
Then, after opening the mpeg2 files, in MPEG Streamclip make sure you use Export to QuickTime (cmd-E - NOT Export to DV!) with Compression: Apple DV-PAL (or Apple DV-DVCPRO/NTSC), Quality: 100%, fps: 25 for PAL or 29,97 for NTSC, Audio: uncompressed, Stereo, 48 KHz.
This prevents the resulting .mov file to require rendering in the standard DV sequences, if imported to FC.

  • Green screen flashes

here I asked about green letterboxing that was showing up in imovie.

    The cause was never found.
Continuing I was finding that pics imported into iMovie would have green flashes and transitions would have them as well.
I found the problem was caused by EyeTV's MPEG Component in combination with Perian.
I wrote an apple script that renames perian so Quicktime/imovie ignores it..starts imovie, then fixes perian, and that solved it.
I'm posting this here so others can find it in googling and searching if they encounter similar.
