MPEG-2 File !DO..." followed by a bunch of weird characters.

After compressor creates MPEG-2 files, with the extension .m2v have their "Kind" listed in the Finder as "MPEG-2 File <!DO..." followed by a bunch of weird characters.>
Anyone know what is going on? There was a post back in January with the same issue, but no answer.
Thanks

You can have multiple iPods and iPhones syncing to the same iTunes library, and you can separately control what goes on each using the Sync Selected Playlists.

  • My Mac won't read cyrillic in certain files and displays instead weird characters like this: "–í–µ-Ç–µ-Ä –ø-Ä–æ–¥–∏-Ä–∞–µ-Ç –¥–æ –∫–æ-Å-Ç–µ–π." Any ideas why this might be or how I can solve it?

Yesterday I extracted the subtitles of an MKV file to try and print them. Unfortunately, when I open the .srt file with any text processor, it displays weird characters like the ones included in the title:
    "–û–±—ã–≤–∞—Ç–µ–ª–∏ –ø–µ—á–∞–ª—å–Ω—ã.
    –í–µ—Ç–µ—Ä –ø—Ä–æ–¥–∏—Ä–∞–µ—Ç –¥–æ –∫–æ—Å—Ç–µ–π."
I thought this had to do with it being an .srt file, but just now I encountered the same problem with an Excel file.
Any ideas why this might be or suggestions as to how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mario

It looks like an encoding problem.  You should try opening the file in a text editor where you can choose one of the various possible cyrillic encodings (utf-8, koi8-r, iso-8859-5, win-1251, MacCyrillic)

  • Converting Mpeg-4 files to mp3

I have a bunch of AMVs on my computer and for some of them I dont even want the visual part but just want to be able to listen to them.
Is there a way within iTunes to convert them to mp3?
I googled it and I thought I had come up with the answer. I went into preferences and changed "import settings" from AAC encoder to mp3 encoder(and high quality).
When I highlight a video> Advanced> I see the options "Create Ipod"/Create Ipad"/"Create mp3"... but the mp3 option is not bolded(I cant select it). Do I need to change something else as well to make it work?
I even copied an mpeg-4 file and tried to re-add to the library but it didnt convert it so I just have a duplicate mpeg-4 file ~.~
    Help? Thank you! ^.^

Handbrake is a freeware converter that handle this easily. Its pretty simple to use too.
To get the mp3 audios played on portable devices, just drag and drop mp4 videos into the program and select "MP3" as the output audio file, let it encode and youre done.
It's worked nicely for me in the past, and has some nice features like settings for various devices including iOS devices (downscale to iPod resolution while you convert, etc).
If you want to do that with some other third-party tool rather than this free Handbrake, you may follow the guide here.

  • Encore wants to re-transcode my MPEG-2 file

    Hi,
I'm just starting out with encore CS3 on a Mac platform (OSX 10.4.11) and have a problem importing assets for Bluray authoring.
I followed the instructions in a Adobe pdf (bluray_workflow_guide_with_fcp.pdf: which explains how to create Bluray compliant Mpeg-2 files in Apple's compressor), but when I import these files into encore, they are still marked with 'untranscooded'. I have tried different exports with different settings but nothing helps. Has somebody come across this problem or does someone have a solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Erik Bulckens

The authoring itself is possible. It can be done (and is also being promoted as such) in Encore.
Also there is a possibility to burn simple Bluray discs (or even normal DVD discs with Bluray content that play on Bluray players) in Toast 10.
    Thanks...

  • "Error parsing MPEG Metadata file.

    I have been using Encore for about 4 years: 1.5 -> 2.
Recently I have had problems with projects exported as an avi file from Premier 2 and used in a simple menu and timeline in Encore 2. Typically projects were about an hour long. Chapter points were added in Encore automatically every 3 mins for general navigation assistance. I checked the project was OK and pressed Build. After watching the video transcoding progress bar creep to 100%, the error message appears immediately the process appears to have completed - "Error parsing MPEG Metadata file. Deleting or renaming filename.m2v.xmpses" will allow you to import, but any markers will be lost". On the previous occasion I went back to the assets, highlighted the avi file and transcoded it manually (automatically). No error message. I then built and burned the DVD.
I have sometimes cured problems by removing any info from the final chapter point - delete the visible info. This may have just solved this last problem despite the initial build being reported as being free of problems. Following the first problem I rechecked and was told there was a problem with the final chapter point. I deleted the chapter point info and it has built and burned satisfactorily.
    Two questions.
What is causing this problem. I have burned lots of DVDs over the years with Encore. Is the use of chapter points the cause of the problem. There have been quite a lot of reports of this in other (Matrox) forums. I am using Matrox RTX100. How can I prevent this huge waste of time - a build may take me a couple of hours.
Is it better to export the Premier Pro2 timeline as an avi and use Encore for the transcoding, or is it better to export a trancoded file from Premier directly and just include this in the Encore project. If yes, which format should I export it in. I have the Premier and Matrox transcoding options.
    Roger

Not sure if this is causing the error, but since version 2 Encore automatically adds a chapter point on the last available GOP. It could be that the last of your 3 minute chapter markers is closer to this final chapter point than 0.4 seconds. The DVD-Video specification requires chapter points to be at least 0.4 seconds apart.

  • Compressor not encoding Multiplexed MPEG-2 files after 10.4.9 update???

When I try to encode a multiplexed MPEG-2 file (e.g., checking the 'Multiplexed MPEG-1/Layer 2 Audio' box under 'Extras'), Quicktime is unable to open the Compressor generated file and produces the following error (which has helped significantly with troubleshooting the issue):
    Error opening movie
The movie could not be opened.
Fortunately, MPEG Streamclip is able to open the file -- and provides the following alert:
One or more transport stream files have a bad size. Do you want to open them anyway?
This usually happens when a file is incomplete.
As an experiment, I generated two multiplexed MPEG-2 files - one with Compressor and the other with MPEG-Streamclip, both were identical in file size...but the Compressor generated file won't open. Is anyone else running into this issue?
Seemed to work before upgrading to 10.4.9.
Running Compressor 2.3 (and all my other software is completely up to date). Even tried reinstalling the Compressor 2.3 updater.
    MacBook Pro 15" 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I also experienced a similar issue.
Compressor was unable to encode a CBR 8mb/s, multiplex job. It rendered log results that said "Failed: 3x service crash". However, it still produced a m2t file. Compressor could not open this file (even though I have the quicktime mpeg 2 component installed). MPEG Streamclip was able to open the file, but it was not the same duration of the original file.
I tried the same process for settings of 25mb/s CBR multiplex. This time compressor was successful. Compressor still could not open the resultant m2t file. MPEG Streamclip was able, as it was with my 8mb/s m2t file, but this time MPEG Streamclip warned me of opening a "Bad Movie..." I opened anyway and was able to view the entire video. However, Streamclip does not seem to offer options for encoding to MPEG. Meaning, there's no way to dictate the bit rate or other specs.
The long and short of it; I hope apple figures this one out, because I don't want to have to use another product like Cleaner or BitVice.
    Any advice out there?

  • Trouble opening mpeg movie files and importing into iMovie 08

Hi, I'd be most grateful if anyone could provide any solutions to the following problem...
A friend has emailed me two .mpeg movie files which are parts 1&2 of a home movie which I want to edit in iMovie and burn to DVD. The footage was shot on a miniHDV camcorder (not sure which brand).
Opening in QT 7.6 gives the following warning dialogue: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."
The files will however play fine in VLC Media Player, but not in mpeg Streamclip (the file appears to play but the viewer is blank with no audio/video). Trying to import into iMovie is unsuccessful. The iMovie browser won't let me choose the files or drag/drop.
Any ideas. I read somewhere that iMovie 08 can't import mpeg-1 files. Do I need to convert the files, and if so how?
Thanks in advance, and apologies - this is my first experience of video editing.

I have QT Player but it hasn't "kicked in" when I try to import my videos.
Something called PIXE VRF Browser is supposed to help in the conversion. The QT MPEG-2 thingy won't install until I buy QT Pro, according to what I get on the screen.
Sounds like you have too many applications trying to do the same thing. Either use the Pixela Pixe VRF Browser or use the Mac applications (Mac OS Finder, Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component w/MPEG Streamclip) but not both to do the same job. The Apple Finder should be able to copy multiplexed VOB/MPEG-2 files from either your PC burned DVD or directly from your camcorder DVD to your MAC hard drive where MPEG Streamclip/QT MPEG-2 component can convert them for use in iMovie '08. Frankly, I don't understand your work work flow or why you want to import your files to a GOP editor in the first place if your goal is to do frame level editing in iMovie '08.
As for Jon's suggestion, I am on dial-up and cannot download big files at 3-4 Kbps snail pace.
What does this have to do with importing your camcorder files to your PC and re-burning them to DVD for use on your Mac? If I were to make a recommendation here, it would have been to use an external hard drive here rather than DVDs for transporting files between platforms and then only if you want the files available to both. If your goal is only to edit them in iMovie '08 or iMovie HD on your Mac, then why not cut out the "middleman" platform?
I wish I could purchase these updates on DVDs but the genies couldn't even tell me if there's such a service.
Totally confused here. Are you saying your DVR-D300 files were commercial produced or that you are dealing with torrent downloads of copy-written material? These are two separate issues with facets beyond the scope of this forum.
As for "platform", I have iMovie08. iMac does not read the mini RAM disks when I connect the camera to a USB port.
Are you saying the Finder doesn't read them or that iMovie '08 doesn't read them? Do you "finalize" your DVDs before trying to read them via USB as the manual states may be necessary as indicated on page 150 of your manual?
How can I find out that iMovie09 will let me import and edit my Panasonic videos?
You could try going to the Apple site and checking the the tapeless camcorder compatibility chart. The Panasonic DVR-D300 is specifically listed along with a hot link for additional information. However, this still won't help you you don't finalize the content.

  • Can hear, but not see my MPEG-4 files- can anyone help me?

So I bought a new digital camera- a Casio EXILIM that makes MPEG-4 files. When I try to play one of the MPEG-4 files, I can't seem to get the video to show up on my QT player. I'm using QT 7.0.3, and I can hear the audio portion perfectly, but there is no picture.
The Casio manual is 7 pages of nothing that helps. Software? You're joking, right? They graciously give a copy of Photo Loader, which seems like it was written in the stone age.
As far as Quicktime goes, I have the following plug-ins: MPG4-DIVX, MPG4* and MPG4.
The File comes up as a .AVI file, if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any advice of help, I appreciate it.

    J.A. Yocono,
The VLC Media PLayer at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ should play the files for you.
I use ffmpegX at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ to convert similar problem files to DV stream video files so they can be used in iMovie/iDVD. (Keep in mind that the files will grow in size from your MPG-4 sizes as DV Stream video is about 13 GB per hour of running time).

  • MPEG-2 Files to MPEG-4

I've got a bunch of muxed MPEG-2 files that I would like to convert into the format playable on the video iPod...
I imagine that I would have to demux them first and so I did that... but how can I instruct Compressor to use multiple source files in creating my single output mp4?

So Compressor is not capable of combining a video and
    an audio stream?
I can only use it to create a file with both video
and audio if the source is already like that?
I suppose that you could use an AppleScript to post process Compressor's output, other than that I suspect that there is no way to combine separate audio and video files directly from within Compressor.

  • Importing a mpeg video file into itunes

I tried click and drag but that doesn't work. How would I get some mpeg video files to work in iTunes so I can transfer them to my iPod? I also tried "add file to library" that doesn't work either.

iTunes supports the following video content formats:
Video content purchased from the iTunes Store.
QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.
    Video podcasts.
If your videos are MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, you will have to use a third-party application to convert the videos into a format that iTunes supports. If you search this forum for something like "video convert", you should find a number of suggestions as to a converter.

  • MPEG movie files converting to another format for iDVD

    Hey,
Friend of mine recorded video of a concert. The files from her memory stick are in MPEG movie format.
I burned them from the memory stick to a disc. Now I'm trying to insert one of these MPEG movie files to a current iDVD dvd project. BUT for some reason or another it is not letting me.
Could someone please let me know how to take a MPEG movie file and insert it into a iDVD project.

Ive not actually tried protected iTunes Store files with this solution so not sure if it works (if not, yes, you would need to burn them to Audio CD and re-impot them unprotected.)
AACs are compatible with the PSP as-is however, it's just the PSP does not like the .m4a file extension. Simply renaming the extension to .mp4 will address this.
On a PC, you can create a batch file on your PSP memory stick with the following command:
    rename *.m4a *.mp4
Run this batch file after copying your iTunes AACs to the memory stick and they will work fine.
I'm sure the same can be achieved on a Mac with AppleScript or Automater, I don't have experience with those to achieve the same results though - perhaps someone could create a rename multiple files example?

  • HT3775 mpeg-2 file using OS 10.8.2 and Quicktime Player 10.2

I'm trying to open an mpeg-2 file with Quicktime Player 10.2 and OS 10.8.2. Apple says the playback component for earlier versions of Quicktime is already built in to this version, but I'm getting video only--no audio. • How can I edit my MPEG-4 File in FCPX?

    Hi,
A friend has sent me a MPEG-4 File that when I try and import to FCPX a message comes up saying 'no importable files'.
I have tried to re-wrap it in Clipwrap and convert it in MPEG Streamclip but it won't even import in them app's.
I can watch the video in VLC but not in Quicktime.
Does anyone have any idea to what I can do to edit this video in FCPX?

I have no experience with, or knowledge of the files you are using but it might be worth trying the free app Subler.

It may be useless but it won't cost you anything to find out.

    HI,
If iChat is Open and your think Accounts/Screen Names are logged in then go to the Window Menu
This should list the accounts that are logged in with various keystrokes ( Apple/CMD ( or ⌘) and a Number) shown next to them.
Using these should get the Buddy list "back".
It is possible to Hide the Buddy list and then Quit iChat.
iChat will then "remember" where the windows were eve if this was Hidden.
Can you confirm that after reinstalling or restoring from Time Machine with possibly an Earlier Version you have Downloaded the COMBO version of OS X 10.6.8 and "run the COMBO" (Installed it - again) to update iChat ?
It is possible the text chat Window is also Hidden on double clicking a Buddy.
The easiest way for this to happen is to use a second Display and drag some windows to the second Display.
iChat "remembers" where you last had Outgoing Chats so Audio and Video windows will be where you left them as will Text Chats.
Incoming Chat Invites are normally in set places unless there is a chat already open to that Buddy.
With  Windowing issue like this is sometimes pays to delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself  (on it's own) and restart iChat  (this plist holds the window positions amongst other things)
