Mpeg 2 import issue

Hi,
I keep having the same problem importing an Mpeg 2 file (.m2v) into DVDSP 4.
The file name appears in the asset window, however it's color is faded. then after 5 seconds or so, it disappears.
The 'Video Asset' details appear on the right side of the screen but then disappear at the same time as the file name.
no error dialogues appear at all.
Any ideas?

How did you create the MPEG-2 file? What settings did you use?

  • MPEG Video Import Issues (Not Trial)

    Hi Everyone,
I am fairly new to PP CS3. Up until recently I have been using basic Video Editing tools. I have decided since I like video editing so much, that I am going to try and go into it full force. So I bought my friends copy of CS3 Master suite off of him (because his company bought him two licenses and he only needs one so I got it cheap) and away I go.
So, with that in mind. Please be patient if I sound like noob because I am. I am a system admin, but when it comes to this stuff, I know very little compared to most of you I am sure.
Right now I am just doing something really basic to get my feet wet. I have imported a bunch of Kids shows I recorded using my Media Center PC and want to make a compilation of just the musical scenes for my little girl. I have done this type of stuff with Pinnacle in the past but I seem to running into a weird issue.
The video's are a standard MPEG 2 DVD compliant format. The capture card I use is a Hauppauge PVR 150 so it does the hardware encoding on the board.
If I watch these files on my TV or in Media Player Classic/WMP/VLC they all look fine. The minute I view them in PP CS3 they get this weird distortion. It looks like digital artifacts from say a bad digital cable stream, except it is all colorful and such. Dare I say the "Technicolor rainbow" :)
I thought at first that maybe it was just because the preview is a lower quality. So I did a small amount of editing and exported the video. After watching the exported video, the weird distortion IS there. So I am not sure what to do about this. I did see one post on the forums that suggested simply changing the file extension to AVI might help. I did this and odly enough, it did fix the video issue, but then the sound was completely out of synch.
I have looked around the forums and seem some references to MPEG file issues but none seem to describe the issue I am having and most seemed related to trial versions of the software not having the MPEG codec licensed. That would not be my situation.
Just as a last note. I know that MPEG files are highly compressed and are usually and especially in the case of DVD's the final product not meant for further editing. However, in this case I am just cutting sections out so I didn't think there would be an issue. Also, as I mentioned above, I have done this without issue on Pinnacle.
If anyone has any suggestions. I would appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

    Kyle,
It sounds like it could be a CODEC issue. I'd start by getting a bit of freeware, G-Spot, http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and installing it. Run your MPEG-2 in G-Spot and see what it says about it. Your capture card could be doing the compression in a CODEC that PP does not work nicely with, or that it does not/can not access on your system. G-Spot will give you the CODEC used/required. Also, it will render the file with just a few mouse clicks and you can view it, with audio, in G-Spots viewer. How does it look there, just like in WMP?
I assume that you are doing all of the work on the same computer, right? If so, any CODEC available to WMP (and G-Spot) *should* be accessible to PP.
Actually doing a "conversion" to AVI would be better than just chaning the extension of the file. The Premiere-pedia has a full set of FAQs on file conversions. Eddie Lotter, the "gate-keeper" of the pedia offers this link:
    http://premierepro.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ%3aHow_do_I_import_%E2%80%9Cxyz%E2%80%9D_format_files %3F
Hope that the forum does not truncate the URL.
As for sync issues, if the Audio & Video are out of sync by a constant amount, you can alt-click on the Audio and adjust it, until the sync comes in. You will want to Zoom the Timeline and also turn off the "Snap" feature, when you begin adjusting the sync. Find a point that is pretty obvious, like a sound that has a distinct visual associated with it. Dialog can be used, if the visual is shot tight enough to see the actor's lips. Do this BEFORE you do any cutting of the Clip. Once you have matched the sync, then you can cut and all should stay the same. However you should not have to do this, if your file is something that PP can play with. PP likes DV-AVI footage, that one shoots with a DV tape camera best, but should work with what you have, to a lesser degree.
Doing VHS captures to PP on my system (Turtle Beach A-D card) yields an 8 frame sync issue, that I have never cleared up. However, with the above syncing technique, it edits fine. These captures are done AVI uncompressed, but the sync problem exists with all of the possible formats from the TB card. Some day, I need to address this problem, rather than just do the workaround.
As for the exact distortion, that you describe, I have not seen that, but maybe others have and can tell you that I'm full-of-it, but give you a fix. Hey, that's all that's important, right? Believe them.
You might want to go up a level in the hierarchy of this forum (to get ALL versions of Premiere) and do a search for "MPEG + distortion," and similar, to see if someone else has had this problem. The Premiere-pedia is another good source of info too, though its "search" is not as good. I often find that Google does a better job, searching the P-pedia. Premiere-pedia:

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?

  • A low level exception occured in: Importer MPEG (Importer)

    Okay, first some system specs:
    Macbook Pro
    2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB RAM
    Radeon HD 6750
    OSX Lion 10.7.5
Premiere Pro CS6 (updated to lastest available version)
--I remember installing updates a few days ago (maybe last week), but don't remember if any of them were for Premiere and could possibly be the problem.
The trouble I'm having is with one .MTS clip. I have a timeline about 20 minutes in length. I edited the whole thing and had no problems the whole time, with any clip. All clips originally imported correctly, played back fine, etc.
I exported a copy for client review (from Media Encoder CS6) the other day. One clip (the .MTS clip in question) showed as "Media Offline". It is not offline, I did not move the clip, etc. I unlinked the clip in the project, relinked it, and it did show up in the project and was able to be played back.
Exported another copy, found the same error occured with just this one clip. Now I'm noticing that when I open the project, I receive the error in the topic title (A low level exception occured in: Importer MPEG (Importer). The clip will not play back and shows up as "Media Pending", as if it's not coming in correctly. Unlinking and relinking doesn't fix the issue.
I have many other .MTS clips in my timeline. All of them work correctly, play back correctly, and export correctly. There doesn't seem to be any inherent problem with the clip itself; it plays back smoothly in VLC, and I've transcoded it to a .mov to try and just bring that in and get around this stupid issue. This didn't work either; I unlink the clip, then relink to the transcoded .mov -- it actually will play back in the preview monitor, but will not display when trying to view it on my timeline. I have also created a copy of the project, tried this inside of the copy, as well as created a new sequence and pasted over the information; none of that worked either. There are also other sequences this clip is on, and it will not play back in any of them either, but as I mentioned, plays back in the preview.
I did find one other topic with a similar issue; they recommend deactivating Premiere, restarting the computer, and activating it again. I did do a restart initially to try and diagnose the problem, but to no avail. I tried deactivating the program, but the Adobe Application Manager doesn't load; it has almost never loaded for me whenever I try to use it, which is frustrating in and of itself.
I tried creating an entirely new project and importing the other project. When I did this Premiere just froze; I'm assuming it can't handle all the pieces (it's a fairly complex project with hundreds of clips) and they are also coming off an external drive through a USB 3.0 cable.
I've temporarily "fixed" this by bringing in the transcoded clip, resyncing it to to the spot I need it in, and cutting it as necessary. I typed this post as I went and tried various things, and while I've found my way around the problem, it doesn't really solve it. I opened another old project that was very similar to this one and also encountered the same error message. I didn't stick around to find out if there was just one clip causing the issue; the fact that it was there was enough for me.
So, what do I need to be doing here? I'm guessing the stock answer is to uninstall Premiere and reinstall it, which I don't want to do unless I have to since it's a pain in the ***. I'm kind of through the problem for this project, but want to be able to deal with it for the future. Hoping someone with knowledge can chime in and tell me whether it's the update from the other day causing this.
If the answer is to uninstall and reinstall Premiere, do I need to run some cleaner tool? I vaguely remember hearing about that before in regards to uninstalling and reinstalling.

I'm having the same issue here.

  • Render problem PPRO 2014 Low-level importer error MPEG (Importer)

A problem I have encountered in PPRO CC, and now encountered in my project rendering with insane consistence. Ctrl-M, export to Adobe Encoder 2014, starts render, 3-5 minutes of problem-less rendering, then render fails with the above error in logs. Close PPRo 2014, close Encoder, reopen, reinitialize, might last longer - 10 mins., fails again. PC, i7, 16Gb RAM, 40Gbs scratch SSD disk, Quadro 2000, on the timeline a mix of Panasonic AF100 and the Lumix assortement (GH1 hacked, GH3), plus 2 GoPro 3, all AVCHD or H.264 files.
Could that be a system configuration glitch?  Because I noticed that sometimes it would persistently halt render at one and the same spot, other times it will glide through it like knife through butter but halt later on a clip/inbetween clips that were of the same type. On the other hand, on the busy comb of selected clips on multiple tracks in a multi-camera gig, it is most definitely halting renders. Once I've done rendering bit by bit and have a lineup on one track with an adjustement layer on top across teh whole length of the assembled cadence of clips with a few effects on it - it finishes rendering no matter however long the workarea is, no errors then. What is up? This is driving me crazy, rendering turned into tip-toeing around this problem with the assembly of long programming out of 3-5min pieces of successful renders. Help!

  • Strange import issue .. no longer works in 2.6 or Beta 3

    Strange import issue.
I use LR-2.6 everyday but have only played around with the LR-3 for a limited amount of time so the other day I decided check it out and tried to import a handful of RAW(canon) files on a SDxc-8g card via a USB card reader. I set it up to copy and convert to DNG, apply a few keywords and Metadata but when I tried it acted like it imported the first image and then froze. Card reader lights stopped blinking and just stayed on, program task bar doesn’t show any progress, not even for the first image. I then went to the folder that I was going to have the images copies to and it contained a file of the first image, but there is no indication that LR-3 even created it and it doesn’t show up in the catalog. When I tried to close out LR-3 is popped up the “in the middle of a task warning” so I just closed the program and tried it a couple more times to no avail.
So I though o well I will just open up LR-2.6 and import them from there, guess what now LR-2.6 does the exact same thing!!
I thought maybe my card reader was a POS but I was able to drag all the files to a new folder on my desktop and import them from there, nope. Tried rebooting a couple times, even opened a new catalog to test with, in both LR-2.6 and LR-3 and neither will work..
    I am stumped any ideas?

    Thank you for everyone's assistance
I actually figured out what the problem was, like most issues it comes back to operator error, it seem I had inadvertently chose a "rename file on import" template that I had set up to name the files based on a custom fill-in field in the Meta Data, I normally only used that template when I was exporting images that had been completely edited, so being these images were new imports that field was blank, hence it would import the first image and then do to " don't import subjected duplicates" being checked it would just stop the import process.

  • IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???

Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
    I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...

    Hi
    Can be so much.
Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
    My list on this
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

  • Import issue with Lightroom

I upgraded to LR5.2 2 weeks ago from 4.3. Install went fine, but I'm now having issues when importing my photos, Lightroom hangs partially through the import.  The only choice I have then is to force quit the program, which then freezes my computer.  Getting to be an invredibly frustrating exercise.
I have an iMac with OSX10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
    Lightroom 5.2
Importing & converting CR2 files (5DMkIII) to DNG.
Images being imported to an external hard drive.
Nothing has changed in my workflow or software except for the installation of LR5.  I did read in some of the forums that there was import issues that appear to have been fixed with the latest release, however, whilst I DEFINTIELY have the latest release of LR5,  this is still occurring.  Any ideas? Another bug?
    Cheers

sure did. All permissions are admin & I'm it.  I haven't tried DL via image capture - LR4 gets me to the same end goal, tis just rather onerous to have to muck around with this twice.  Appreciate your taking the time on this

  • Duplicate Video Import Issue

    Hello,
I am running PPRO CS6 (6.0.3) on Windows Vista
I am having a duplicate asset import issue. Let me explain...
I have a couple of Premiere Pro project files with multiple sequences in each. In each of the project files I have the same source video files imported as the some of the sequences in each of the project files reference the same source video file.
So here it was is happening...I have a project file with sequences 001-025 in them and I have have another project file with sequences 026-050. I have 25 sequences per project to keep the project sizes smaller and more manageable so my system doesn't choke.
Sequences 014 and 015 in the first project file both reference "Video01.avi" which is located on my external F: drive. I want to import sequences 027-030 from the second project file which both reference the same "Video01.avi" file on the same drive.
I know PPro is intelligent enough to know when importing assets from another project file that shares the same assets as the project you are importing into, it knows to only import the dependent assets which are not in the project file you are importing into. I have done this countless times and PPro has correctly only imported the assets it needed.
However for some reason when I am trying to import the above mentioned sequences from one project into another it is bringing in a duplicate copy of the source footage necessarily. I can't figure out why it is doing this. The sequences it is importing both reference the identical file on the same drive, etc. And I am using the "Import Selected Sequences" option.
    Thank you,
    Shane

I think I have solved my own issue. As stated above when I was trying to import sequences from another sequence it was brining in a dup copy of the same clip in the sequence. I was able to successfully have it not do that.
What I realized was happening is that even though the source footage video file is identical in each project file, when I opened it up the clip in the source monitor I had different IO points set for each version of the clip in each project. PPro I am assuming imported the second copy to preserve the IO points on the second version of the clip that was being imported.
I simply cleared each set of IO points on each reference of the clip in the project file and I was able to import the sequences I wanted without bringing in an additional copy of the source clip. So now I just have one copy of "Video1.avi" in my project file instead of multiple.
Hope this helps someone in the future who may be experiencing a similar issue.

  • Import issues, Audio/video Unsynced

Having major import issues, audio and video won't play in sync. Working with MP4 and MXF on most recent version of Premiere CC. Everything plays fine in quicktime/vlc but goest haywire in premiere. Have been through tech support twice, updated drivers, cleared cache and Premiere still has trouble playing back video/audio in sync. Any idea what's going one? Our company recently switched to adobe for the supposed "ease" it handles different codecs and so far have had nothing but issues? Sorry if this is already addressed in one of the forms, am at my witts end now having lost multiple days trying to troubleshoot premiere.

    Hi Adobe4,

Sorry for this issue. Tell me, where did these files originate? From a video camera? Do they have a constant frame rate or a variable frame rate?

  • DTW--  How to Import  Issue for Production

    Hi ,
How do i import Issue for Production Through DTW.
    Thanks & Regards
    somi mishra

    hello,
why do you want to use DTW to issue for production ? You could use backflush as issue method so that you can skip issue for production job. If you have issue for production batch job which it means you want to add all the qty of RM issued to production one times and all at onces for more than 10 PO, I think it is better to use addon. You create an excel template and export the data to be txt file, the txt file imported to the issue for production form using the addon. I just compare this situation with the client request in long time ago. they request fast and not manual sales order creation from quotation. just to compare it to your situation but need your detail explanation.

  • Media import issue

I have a sony DCR-SR100 HDD Camcorder and have done numerous videos in iMovie '09. My camera is listed on the "supported/tested cameras" page on Apple Support. I previously was able to import video directly from my camera into iMovie, but no longer can. It has been about 1 1/2 months since my last import, and I don't remember exactly how I imported video before, but I have tried everything.
When I copy the movie files directly to my hard drive and try to import it into iMovie '09, or go through the folders to import through iMovie, it says that it is an unsupported file type.
    "*Import File*
The file will not be imported.
It is not compatible with iMovie."
If I go to info for the file and choose "open with VLC", it says the file type is "multiplexed MPEG-1/2".
If I go to info for the file and choose "open with Quicktime", it says the file type is "MPEG Movie".
The most confusing part is I tried to import a video clip that is already in iMovie that was previously imported without problems, and it gives me the same error. Nothing has changed, it is still on the camera as it was when it was originally imported.
I don't understand what has changed to make iMovie no longer work with my files. Any help is much appreciated in resolving this issue. I have a project I need to finish ASAP and am completely stuck and have run out of ideas.
Thank you, and sorry for the length of this, just wanted to get as much info in here as necessary.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Mpeg2 video needs to be imported from the camera, not from copies made to your hard drive.
If you no longer have the video on the camera you will need to convert your mpeg2 files to a compatible format such as AIC.
One way to do this is to use mpegstreamclip and the Quicktime mpeg2 playback component, but there are other ways.

  • Partial file importing issue

In Premiere elements 4.0, I am importing a 1.03 gb .mpg file from a card reader and only part of it imports to the project. any ideas as to why?

A couple of things to consider:
It's possible that this large mpeg file is corrupt at the point that the Import fails.
See if the files plays okay to completion using one of the media players on your PC (like Windows Media Player).
If okay, convert to DV-AVI prior to import into PE.
Use this link for free conversion options:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
Once converted successfully, chances are excellant this will cure any issues with PE...

  • HELP!!! -  h.264 import issues

I downloaded a clip (.mov with a h264/ACC format, 1920x1080). FCE says it's a file it won't import/work with and when I've tried importing it into iMovie or used MPEG Streamclip and QT to change it to a .dv file, it just comes out "digitized issues" during playback.
    HELP!!!
What is going on? What can I do to get a quality movie burnt? The clip is only five minutes but I need it for church tomorrow.

Use Streamclip to convert it to QuickTime (not DV, that's standard definition) using the Apple Intermediate Codec at 29.97fps with uncompressed 48k audio. Using a sequence setting in FCE that matches that.
    Beaten at the line.
