MPEG-2 Plugin for FCP???

I recently purchased the MPEG-2 plugin for Quicktime from the Apple website because I read somewhere that this would transfer to all applications on the MAC.
In particular, I needed it to work with Final Cut Pro. But when I tried to import the video, it does the same as it always has.
Video but no audio when brought into the timeline.
Is there an MPEG-2 plugin specifically for Final Cut?
I use "Final Cut Studios 1.5 with FCP 5.1.4"

The original video clips are actually the JVC proprietary MPEG-2 format (.TOD). I had to download the MPEG-2 plugin for Quicktime to use Streamclip (Otherwise it wouldn't even read them).
I know that the MPEG videos have the Audio and Video muxed together. They play fine with the MPEG-2 plugin and with the VLC player.
Why can't FCP read them correctly though? There is never any Audio. Every other video editing program is able to read MPEG-2 videos correctly (Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier Pro, etc). FCP is the only pro editor that won't read them.
You also mentioned that the MPEG-2 plugin comes with FC Studios. But I've been using it for almost 4 years, and I've never been able to watch MPEG-2 video on my computer. Is this an option that you have to specifically choose to install when installing Final Cut Studio?
Thanks
There's got to be a plugin somewhere for FCP.
Please advise.
Thanks

  • Color grading plugin for FCP?

I experience more and more problems with the Send to Shake function as time goes (FCP updates, Shake does not). Is there a good quality color correct plugin for FCP? More advanced than the standard 3-way color corrector..

Just exactly what is it you're wanting to accomplish? FCP has an amazing variety of color tools contained within it's tool set, although not nearly as surgical as Shake.
Colorista II ain't worth the money to me as it's really no different than the 3Way with the exception that you can make power windows without layering. Boris also has some sort of new 3Way corrector that if I were to buy a plug, I'd most likely get over Colorista II.

  • Problems with the canon xf plugin for fcp 7 Can't log and transfer mxf files.

    Hi
I can't log & transfer mxf files from a c300 camera in FCP 7 even though I installed the xf plugin.
When I looked at canon's website this link comes up but it doesn't work.
    http://usa.canon.com/nw3s/CanonUSA/DownloadContents/English/0200206002EN.htm
    Any suggestions?
Or other plugins that might work?
    Thanks,
    James

    Hello jameskendi,
The most obvious reason we can tell as to why this may not work properly is the version of FCP you are using.  You mention using FCP 7, although the plugin is specifically for FCP X.  This is why you're having such difficulty.  If possible, we'd recommend using an updated computer and or software to process these files.

  • After Effects plugins for FCP 6

Hi folks, I'm trying to install the plugins for AE 6.5 Pro into my nice new FCP 6 set up. When I fire up FCP, it rejects all the plugins and then shuts down. Any ideas?
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Running FCP Studio

What a useful answer - I had been hoping for something more constructive however.< </div>
There is a section in the manual describing how After Effects plugins might or might not work.
Depends on who made them. If they're from Adobe, you are flat out of luck. If they're from third party creators, you have a 50/50 chance they will work. You would visit the publisher's Web site to find out if they are FCP-compatible.

  • Is Panasonic developing a plugin for FCP X that allows you to import Panasonic HDC-TM700 1080/60p footage straight into it without transcoding?

I've been hearing from a few people on these Support Communities that Panasonic is apparently said to be have been developing some kind of plugin that will let FCP X users import 1080/60p footage from the TM700 straight into the editor, without need for use of third-party software such as Popcorn to transcode the footage into .MOV files. They were also apparently going to release this plugin this summer. Anyone know of some kind of link to some more information about it, or some confirmation that it actually is happening? I really would like to know, as I'm big into the 60p setting on the TM700, and my current workflow has me waiting about 3 or 4 hours each time I go to import any footage. Please let me know!

    Hey guys!
I just downloaded Clipwrap to import my 60p footage into FCPX. I downloaded the demo and realize it will only convert up to a 1min file.
When I re-wrap and nativate to my re-wrapped file, I can see (and hear) that it preserves my 5.1. When I play it back, the audio stops about half way (odd). When I import it into FCPX, there is no audio at all. Will FCPX not edit AC-3?
If I keep the LPCM boxed checked on Clipwrap, I get a mono audio file.
Can someone step out a workflow for me that gets me re-wrapping in Clipwrap, retaining 5.1 and editing in FCPX?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Where is the plugin for FCP to recognize M2t. files

this plugin was mentioned in the 6.02 update and apple says sony is responsible, and a sony rep says apple is responsible. it was "released" across the internet 2 weeks ago, but it was only a blind link? am i missing something? does anyone know here this link is or how i can get it?

I see your last post got deleted.
I looked for the Sony link and found a reference to it ove at dvinfo.net.
As you say the link no longer reaches a live page.
However, in the thread, some people were transferring via FW to pro res.
Here is that thread if it helps:

  • Quicktime Plugin for FCP

    Hello,
I'm interested in developing a simple Quicktime plugin that'll be used in Final Cut Pro (you can do that, right?). The plugin will Export the FCP timeline in a fixed format to a fixed destination with one click. I would like it to add an option in the File > Export menu, like "Export to Server."
I have poked around the Apple Developer site a little bit, but haven't quite been able to figure out how to do this. Does anybody know? Would you mind giving me a general overview of how to do it, with functions names/links or whatever to get me started?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

Don't know which plugin you purchased...here's the GenArts tutorial
    http://www.mytoolfarm.com/video/final-cut-pro-genarts-sapphire-3
If you're talking about the FCP lens flare generator it's a matter of using Keyframes and Scale in the Motion tab as well as personal tastes in the Control tab

  • Smoothcam plugin for FCP 5.1?

I cannot upgrade to FCP 6 just yet so is there a third party smoothcam plugin I can get that works with my version of 5.1?

Nope. SMOOTHCAM came from the application SHAKE. You could get SHAKE. But that is just about the cost of the FCP upgrade...

  • Anyone Know Of A Free "Ken Burns" PlugIn For FCP HD?

Any Suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

    Jim:
Was it you who referred me to a link for a plug-in for about a hundred bucks (cheap price to pay, IMHO) that brought drag-and-drop simplicity for this feature to FCP?
I have a lot of this to do, but I failed to bookmark your post (if it was you), and I would SORELY love to buy the program now. It was called Photo* something.
The way I've gone is hand keyframing on each still, and it just takes a lot of time.
Should I don protective clothing myself? What sort of weapons are we using? Is this like the Uma Thurman thing in Kill Bill where she rips out the only remaining eyeball of her vicious opponent?
They've banned Halloween at my kids' local school in Newton, MA. I'm sorry if I sound crabby.
Thanks for help or pointers; I don't want free stuff. I'm happy to pay people for the intense and serious work they do to make my life – and work – easier.

  • Writing an Audio plugin for Final Cut Pro

    Hi all
There doesnt seem to be much info out there about writing plugins for FCP... I've looked at FXBuilder and FXScript, but they only seem to deal with video. I want to write a plugin that will normalize all of the clips on my timeline (I know normalizing is a sin to some audiophiles, but there are situations where I dont have time to take everything into Pro Tools or Soundtrack Pro and just need reasonable levels across an entire project). So my question is, would I need to write a plugin for FCP specifically and if so, is there an SDK or sample code somewhere, or should I write this as an Audio Unit plugin and if so, where do I start? Any help or advice would be appreciated
    cheers

I'd think that the ADC is where you should start... (Apple Develeopers connection) http://developer.apple.com/ Might find the SDK you need there.
Also Joe at Joe's filters or Graeme Nattress might be of help. Great guys both...

  • MPEG-2 Plugin doesn't work with SVCD ?

    Hi,
I just purchased the rather expensive MPEG-2 plugin for Quicktime, only to find that it doesn't work with a .mpg I have on a SVCD. Apple support in Australia have bent over backwards to help without success - apparently it just "doesn't work". Customer relations in Australia have, by comparison, been extremely poor in addressing my complaint (ie, they won't provide a refund).
I guess this is a warning to anyone who assumes the premium priced MPEG-2 plug-in for Quicktime will play what just about every other cheap downloadable MPEG2 player will.
    Paul

There should be no quality loss as longs as the ripped CD is in good shape...
(XS)VCD disks have very little error correction -- that's why you can put as much as ~797.9 MB of MPEG2 data on a "80 minute CD" in (XS)VCD format, while you can put only ~703.1 MB if you treat the same CD as a regular data-CD. ...and audio-CDs use no error correction at all so you can put ~807.5 MB on an that CD if you treat it as an audio-CD!
So a data-CD holds less stuff but it is more reliable to get a bit-for-bit copy back from it.
So: if the (XS)VCD or audio-CD has a small defect and you rip it, then the application must sometimes guess and make the ripped data out of thin air. Luckily the human ear/eye don't usually notice any quality loss, though.

  • MPEG-2 plugin

I purchased the MPEG-2 plugin for Quicktime back in 2007
I've now moving to my new Xeon Mac Pro. Where is this plugin stored at so I can move it?
Alternately, how do I redownload the plugin?

Where is this plugin stored at so I can move it?
Double-click your hard disk and locate the item at /Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeMPEG2.component .
Alternately, how do I redownload the plugin?
Sign in to the online Apple Store and redownload it if you initially got it from there. Use the username and password for the account it was purchased with.

  • Sorry if wrong discussion...MPEG-2 plugin - did I already purchase?

I switched to a Macbook Pro...and I "think" I had a valid copy of the MPEG-2 plugin for QT. Does Apple have a way for me to verify I did have a valid copy...and if so...how do I get another copy?
    thanks, --bill

I switched to a Macbook Pro...and I "think" I had a valid copy of the MPEG-2 plugin for QT. Does Apple have a way for me to verify I did have a valid copy...and if so...how do I get another copy?If you migrated from a PPC computer with older version of QT 6 Pro (or neglected to copy/install the component), then you may need to update the v6.3 QT MPEG-2 component to the v6.4 component. If you purchased the component online, go to you software download area and again download the package which now contains both versions and install the appropriate one.

  • Looking for "bad tv" plugin for FCP6

I was wondering if anyone knew of any free or commercial "bad tv" plugin for FCP and, possibly, Motion.
    Thank you!

Strange enough I cannot find it. I wonder if it's an FCP filter or a commercial filter.
AFAIK, there's no way NOT to install the whole effects packages but I don't where they go and you can't search package contents so it might be impossible to find.
At the bottom of your effects list there is an effect availability option.
