MPEG 2 w/ QT Pro

So, I've found on the boards here that QT no longer supports exporting to MPEG 2 (which blows my mind seeing that I wasted money for both this AND Compressor, and that's the DVD standard codec right now). BUT, I have the codec for MPEG 2 in my QT Library! Shouldn't it pop up, like it does on my friend's G5 which is running the exact same FCP/Compressor/QT as mine (aside from the fact that he's running Tiger)? How am I now supposed to fit my movie on a DVD?? Compressor has the problem that everyone else is having (QT Error: 0), so now I'm at a loss for placing this flick on a DVD... any other programs NOT associated with Apple that I can run on my Mac and will compress to MPEG 2? I'm not feeling very kind to Apple right now, and don't want to waste anymore money on their programs...
PS I put a QT file from FCP in Toast, and that burned a poor quality (ie green blocky digitized) DVD, but at least it all fit...
Thank you, ahead of time!!

  • How on earth do you export to MPEG-2DVD in Premiere Pro & or Media Encoder?

I'm having the same continuing problem in Premiere Pro CS5.5. I cannot export a sequence out as a MPEG-2dvd in Premiere Pro, nor as a MPEG-2dvd in the media encoder. I even tried to encode the file as an AVI file, and then take the AVI file and convert it to a MPEG-2dvd in media encoder. No dice. The file I'm trying to do all of this with is a 26minute sequence on the premiere timeline, so it's no space and data hog. It's originally an MPEG-1 file. I keep getting the error code that both Adobe premiere, and adobe media encoder can not read m2v.xmpses files. I already understand that these have broken into seperate files, with the m2v in there as the video, the audio file representing the audio, and the xmpses containing the metadata, but these files are not seperate in my experience with this problem. the m2v.xmpses is one file, and it can not be seperated. Ive been told that these files are seperated streams that need to be "muxed" together into one workable file. How do you do this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who attempts to tackle these problems.

If working with NTSC, then your Sequence should be DV 720x480, so as to match what the DVD will be.
Not to split hairs Jeff (nor to distract from the purposes of the OP), but you don't always want to match sequence settings to output, and the OP may not actually want to do this either - especially when working with lower quality assets and not knowing how many different ways the edit will be used.
Adobe's mantra with Premiere Pro is "edit once, publish many" and so let's consider a hypothetical scenario where you are creating a sequence to be distributed to web and DVD. If your assets are 1280x720 60p and you put them in a DV 720x480 (4:3 0.9 PAR 29.97) sequence to match an intended DVD output, then you are "stuck" if/when you decide to render out an H.264 720p sequence for Vimeo. You have to re-build your sequence at that point.
99% of the time, you want to create a sequence that matches your asset parameters, or that at least matches the majority of the assets. Then you are editing with the "raw" format and ready to up-res/down-res without creating multiple sequences with separate edits. This becomes even more imperative when and if a re-edit comes down and you find yourself having to execute identical edits across 2 or 3 or 4 different sequences.
Just wanted to clarify that point. That's also part of the reason why PPro allows you to create a new sequence based on an asset's parameters by drag-and-drop.

  • Converting .mov file to mpeg-4 from Quicktime Pro (Player 7)

I have, in the past, converted .mov files to mpeg-4 with Quicktime Pro successfully, without quality being an issue. However, now the quality of the movie is grainy and pixellating. What am I doing wrong? Please help me. Thank you.

Sounds like a setting has changed on you. Have you done an upgrade of QuickTime? Have you exported a low-res version of something recently. My QT Pro setting always seem to default to the most recent settings.
Also, when exporting to .mp4, I find that the H.264 setting seems to work better...especially when I crank up the data rate.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mpeg 2 in premiere pro cc

Hi, I Have a problem with premiere pro cc, in the list of exporting i don't have mpeg 2 , mpeg 2 dvd , mpeg 2 blue ray and when i'm importing mpeg in premiere pro, this don't see the sequence. what's happen? thanks

Can you define 'glitch'?  Or better yet, show us?
Do these glitches exist in the PP sequence, or only after export?
How exactly are you viewing the exported videos?

  • Mpeg encoding in premiere pro

Is it possible to create a mpeg-2 file from a video after being processed with Premiere Pro CS3 ????
In Export -> Movie -> Settings I don't find the option to export to this format. Does it depends on the codecs installed on the computer or Premiere provides its own mpeg-2 encoder ???
Is it possible to perform the previous functions with the legacy Adobe Premiere 6.0 version ???
    Thank you in advance.

Yes, it can be tough, when older versions come into play. Luckily, John T. has a pretty good memory and a knowledge of the earlier versions, so we, with poor memories, or zero recollection of them, trot him out to help us.
What gets very confusing is the PrPro 1.0/Pr 7.0/PrPro 7.0 issues, where things were in transition with new code. After weeks of effort, we then find that the poster meant PrElements 7.0. That's where most of my hair has gone.
Heck, I have to fire up PrPro 2.0 to see just how things are done.

  • When importing MPEG files into Premiere Pro CS3 the audio sequence is missing.

We have two computers running Premiere Pro CS3.  Our computer most recently installed with PPCS3 will only import an audio sequence with the MPEG video file when I extract the file directly from the DVD.  When I take the video folder from the DVD and drag to my Desktop, importing to PP from the desktop, it will only import the video sequence; audio does not appear.  What would cause this happen and how can I fix this?  It's too time consuming to continuously use my DVD Extractor.

1st, that old program has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous
2nd, To work with AC3 sound files in Premiere CS3, copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore CS3 directory into the Premiere directory

  • Audio lost when importing MPEGs into Final Cut Pro

When I import MPEG files into Final Cut Pro 4.5 the audio disappears. When I play the clips in Quicktime the audio and video are present, after I import only the video is present. I have tried adjusting the sequence presets for MPEG, but that has not helped. Any advice? Thanks!!

  • How to encode Final Cut Sequences as MPEG-2 for DVD Pro

I am using Final Cut Studio (non-Universal version)
I am wanting to encode a Final Cut sequence
as an MPEG-2 for DVD Studio Pro 4
I don't want to render the Sequence, I merely
want to select the Entire Sequence and encode
it as an MPEG-2 wherein I can adjust the settings
    custom-style
    How do I do this?
    thanks

QuickTime MPEG-2 is no longer included in new installs.
    Read Apple's info doc.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301871
Because of the superior capabilities of Compressor, the QuickTime MPEG-2 encoder is superfluous and is not included with new installations of DVD Studio Pro 4 or Final Cut Studio.

  • HDCAM to MPEG 2 on Mac Pro

    *Hi Every One*,
I have a project that I am setting up for:
    HDCAM 1.5 hours each tape
need to convert to MPEG 2 1080 @ 24fps 2 channels of audio
    audio in wav file format
Client well be supplying external hard drives
Clients needs it to be native resolution to HDCAM tape
    Working with Mac Pro 3.0
    16 gigs of Memory
Deciding on which capture card to purchase will be renting/buying HDCAM deck
Also which is best to use compressor or other software for MPEG 2 encoding
Also was deciding to purchase on G-Tech: G-SPEED eS eSATA setup
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated on how to proceed or equipment needed with this project

    Conflicting statements...
"HDCAM 1.5 hours each tape need to convert to MPEG 2 1080 @ 24fps 2 channels of audio" ... "Clients needs it to be native resolution to HDCAM tape"
You cannot capture MPEG-2 and have it be the native resolution of the tape...those statements conflict. There is NO native resolution of that format of tape. You can capture as 8-bit uncompressed HD or 10-bit uncompressed HD and that will get you close. But MPEG-2 is NOT the native compression on that tape.
MPEG-2 1080 @ 24fps? Is this a BROADCAST MPEG format? Because none of the capture cards available for FCP capture into that resolution. You'll have to capture as uncompressed, or ProRes HQ, then convert using the TELESTREAM plugin for Compressor.
I recommend the HD PRO from CalDigit. MUCH faster than the G-Speed.

Any one can help me to explain about this MPEG file format compatibility?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello Mark,
Yes, I think maybe the variable GOP is the problem.
I have tried test some clips, and all the variable GOP can't drag into the timeline.
The clips are ftp-out from our broadcast system storage (Harris) formerly known as Leitch. i think they put some encryption or somethink to make their product proprietary.
i can play the clips in the windows media player classic.
I'll try PPPRO CC and see what happen
Thank you very much for your advice.

  • Mpeg to Mpeg-4 using Quicktime Pro!!! No sound!

Ok...I exported my mpeg file to movie to Ipod using Quicktime and it worked and then I dragged it to Itunes...but there's NO sound!! When I play it on Itunes or on my Ipod there is no sound!! PLEASE HELP!!!

There certainly are some apps for Windows that will convert Mpegs and .wmvs, I was (and still am occasionally) a Windows user but I've never done video on it so I don't know them ...
The .avi is just a contender, which usually contains DivX video. Do you have codecs for this format on your computer ( http://www.divx.com/ ) ? Once you have them, QuickTime should be able to play and export many .avi files to h.264 iPod-optimized video. Of course some .avi files contain video in an odd format for which you will have to get a codec I guess.

  • Video/audio glitches exporting to MPEG-2 in premiere pro CC

Like another user from a post in February, I am experiencing a variety of glitches in saved mpg files. They are all from the same project file which is composed of footage shot with GoPro cameras. The project file itself does not contain any of the artifacts that show up in the outputted files. I have tried a number of different compression settings and received a number of different results. Unfortunately, none have come out without some type of hiccup. Sometimes they are audio pops, sometimes the image and sound both stutter and depending on the save settings where these errors occur changes.
The really confusion part is that if you output just a small section of the sequence around a noted issue, the resulting outputted file plays fine. If you then output the entire sequence at those same settings, the error returns.
How can I save a error-free file? Do I have an alternative to mpg for a single file audio/video HD file format?

What is the intended use of these exports?

  • Video/audio glitch exporting to MPEG-2 in premiere pro CC

    Any help with this one?
I have a recurring problem when exporting a normal DV PAL timeline to an MPEG2 file (as required by my client). The exported video will be peppered with audio/video glitches. Normally, I can get around it by deleting single frames around the 'problem' area but that is a very time-consuming, hit-and-miss approach. I see through an online search I am not the first to have this problem but I cannot see any solutions? I regularly clean out the media cache....
    Any help appreciated!

Can you define 'glitch'?  Or better yet, show us?
Do these glitches exist in the PP sequence, or only after export?
How exactly are you viewing the exported videos?

I recently bought PRO and the Mpeg codec too. PRO works great, but I can't get MPEG to play still. IT is also giving me an error when I try to update, I believe this is the way to get the MPEG installed.
Are there any ways around this??

I presume that you're referring to Apple's MPEG-2 Playback Component, yes? When exactly is this error appearing, and what does it say?

You can probably import into a modern version of iMovie (8 or higher).
If you just wish to view the videos the free VLC player can play them back.
