MPEG-4 Converter?

Can anybody suggest an MPEG-4 converter that is capable of converting the film by chapter instead of the whole dvd?
Many thanks.
Erick

If you use windows then rip the individual episodes from the DVD or separate them using DVDShrink first then convert the individual episodes.

There is a version of Handbrake for windows but you still need to rip the DVD first then convert by episode.
If your using Mac then use Handbrake.
You need to post your OS.

  • Mpeg-2 converter only converts a few seconds

I purchased the mpeg-2 converter. It converts my vob files but just a few seconds worth. It can create a new file but it's very small - the vob file is one gig but the resulting converted file is just 40 mb or so. Also - no sound.
    What's up?
    Thanks

    How can fix or avoid?
    "Command-F"
It is always a good idea to "fix" MPEG-2 time code breaks even if they aren't "caught" during the load. I converted 65 TV shows over the last few weeks and everything was going so well I stopped "fixing" them on show 66 thru 87. Wouldn't you know it, every one of the last 22 had a time code break at the beginning that was not caught the the loading that caused audio and video to be "out of sync" on one side of the break and "in sync" on the other. Fixed the time codes, re-converted them and every one of them worked correctly. Seems like the "hurrier" I go, the "behinder" I get.

  • AVI to MPEG-2 converter

Does anybody know of a good AVI to MPEG-2 converter for Linux?  I need to convert an AVI to MPEG-2 so that I can burn it as a DVD video.

Absolutely correct, of course, but if you want to make it just a little easier, try tovid, or the anytovcd.sh script that comes with mjpegtools,  which, despite its name, defaults to DVD-friendly format. If you go for for anytovcd, you'll need bfr and y4mscaler from the AUR.

  • Will MPEG-2 convert a video with sound?

I've converted my videos to MPEG-4 using Quicktime Pro, and they play fine but with no sound.
Is this the application I need to convert them with sound?

I've converted my videos to MPEG-4 using Quicktime Pro, and they play fine but with no sound. Is this the application I need to convert them with sound? http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
No. As Kay tried to explain, the MPEG2 component will simply allow you to extract the video data from a "muxed" stream of audio/video information. To extract and convert both audio and video data, use an MPEG based third party application like MPEG Streamclip (free). This application uses MPEG routines to decocde "muxed files (e.g., MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, etc.) and then uses your QT Tools package to convert them to an iPod specific (or other QT compatible) format. (NOTE: Windows version of MPEG Streamclip does require the Apple MPEG2 component you asked about.)

  • MPEG-4 convert to H.264

I would like to convert my MPEG-4 video files to H.264. Does anyone have any advice?
    thanks

google "ffmpegx" or you can use the shell script which is a lot faster and more efficient. but its also a lot more complicated.

  • Cannot get mpegs to convert/encode

I have a # of videos I am converting to fla using CS3 video
    encoder.
The quicktime movies (ranging in size from 5MB to 38MB) have
worked just fine - but when I try to convert my mpg's and mpeg's -
I get an error message that says: "An internal application error
    occurred"
So I have tried numerous troubleshooting - diff outputs (low
quality to high quality...) with no luck.
Can anyone offer me any advice? thanks

    thx for replying:
I did not create them - they were given to me from a client.
some have mpeg extensions, and one has an mpg extension -
other than viewing the properties of each clip, I do not know how
to determine the answer to your question. Any other advice would be
    greatly appreciated.

  • Mpeg stream convert

    Hi guys,
I know that I am supposed to use DV/NTSC when I am converting mapeg 2 or 4 and i also use make a quick time movie, but what about the drop down menu what am I supposed to use from there. I tried converting an old movie (apple jpeg was the setting I learned after the fact) and it had really bad pixels now i am trying it again using h264 from the drop down menu and parts of it appear clearer (as I am watching it in the processing faze) but it is taking quite a long time and I am just not sure if this is the correct setting, does anyone seem to know?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Converting mpegs to a reasonable size file for final cut pro

I've been using mpeg streamclip and converting mpeg files so that I can edit them in Final Cut, but after the conversion the files are double, sometimes tripled the size they used to be. a 15 minute mpeg, once converted into quicktime format is just about 3gigs. i have some clips that are almost 3 hours, once converted, they will be way too hard to work with and burn onto dvd. i've tried multiple exports through streamclip trying to figure which would be the fastest, and be the smallest in size. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. these segments need to be edited for a job I'm working on, so they need to be done soon. thanks

If you're using DV as the format you edit with, it will take a gig for every 4.7 minutes of video... there's no way around this... Photo JPEG would likely be as large and look much the same most likely.
Quite frankly, any lower data rate resulting in smaller files will probably look pretty bad...
Hey, hard drives are cheaper than they used to be, and subclipping long clips sure makes them more manageable editorially...

  • How to convert vob to mpeg with mpeg to vob converter for mac

MPEG has standardized the following compression formats and ancillary standards: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-3, and MPEG-4. MPG is one of a number of file extensions for MPEG-1 computer files.
VOB is based on MPEG-2 program stream format.MPEG to VOB Converter for Mac can both convert MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-3, MPEG-4) to VOB for Mac and convert VOB to MPEG on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard included). Moreover, it could convert HD MPG (MPEG-2 HD) to VOB and VOB to HD MPG (MPEG-2 VIDEO) on Mac OS X.
Free download mac vob to mpeg converter.
Step 1, Import or drag and drop VOB or MPEG file to this Mac VOB to MPEG (MPG) Converter.
Step 2, Choose output format as VOB or MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-3, and MPEG-4). You are allowed to trim, crop video, and set video biterate, resolution, and screen size before conversion.
Step 3, Click “Convert” to start VOB to MPEG or MPEG to VOB conversion. This powerful software support ripping DVD and converting VOB and MPEG in batch.
Note: If you are not satisfied with the original video effect, you can trim, crop, add watermark and set brightness with this applicaton, learn how to edit vob on mac snow leopard
Tips: A good, open source tool for playback VOB is MPlayer OSX and VLC Media Player, and Apple DVD player. If you wish to burn the VOB files to a standard DVDR disc, you need to have all the other standard DVD files as well, including IFO and BUP files. If you have all of the required files, you can get solutions with freewares like handbrake.

  • QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component on QT 7.5 problems- will not work

I am running QT Pro 7.5 (it is registered) on os/x 10.5.4 (Intel). The mpeg-2 component does not seem to work after it is installed & the system reboots. I get a box saying "this is not a movie file"...yet freeware mpeg-2 converter Handbrake sees and reads the mpeg-2 file just fine.
I was going to see if WT was faster at the mpeg-2 to mpeg-4 conversion. Any ideas (since I have already spent some $$ on this)????

You misunderstand the purpose of the QuickTime MPEG-2 Component.
It doesn't make the QuickTime Player the equivalent of Handbrake.
If your DVDs are not copy protected, you can use the QT Component with the free MPEG Streamclip application to convert mpg-2 video to other formats.

  • MPEG and Windows Media Playback lost

    Hi,
Assistance please! I stupidly download and installed MPlayer today. I have now lost any playback of Windows Media format sound and this includes the audio associated with Microsoft's ENTOURAGE email programme. Also, CODEC not found error comes up with WMV files AND some MPEG video files now have no sound. Most of the MPEG will still run on VLC.
"Something" has corrupted a file, but where? I have re-installed QT and WMP without success. Starting the mac (10.4.4) via another start-up drive WILL play those files correctly. I also did a re-installed (archive install) again without luck, so its something left behind in the Library folder I think.
Help please as this is driving me mad.

    Dave,
Ok will try Garage Band too. I 'assume' Windows playback and some types of MPEG are converted to a form of midi? I could never work out what form windows media video and audio takes, but did hear that it was a form of mpeg. I assume the sounds with Microsoft's Entourage etc are of the same nature.

  • Help, I brought  a PAL DVD into FCP using MPEG Streamclip.

MPEG streamclip converted the file into a Quicktime file and the footage looked great in FCP. I then brought in other minidv footage via firewire. I exported everything as one clip whith chapter markers using Compressor and now when I bring all of the footage into DVD studio Pro 4 the PAL footage looks like a rake is dragged accross it but the minidvd footage looks great.
    Any ideas?

Am I not supposed to use compressor on the PAL stuff? Maybe it's already compressed?
