MPEG-4, sometimes Wav?

Hi Folks,
When I import into iTunes from a music CD most of the time it shows up as a MPEG-4 file. But sometimes it shows up as a WAV file. Why would this happen? I havent made any changes to my import preferences. Does the original size of the CD music track have anything to do with it, the largest of them importing as a Wav file?
Thanks
Bart

Did you convert the movie/video yourself?
In order for MP4 movie files to work with any iPod, they must be converted by a convert which has Apple standards in conversion.
Some encoders do not add Apple/iTunes certification within the MP4 movie. A movie without certification won't import into iTunes. iTunes only recognises Certificated MP4 files. Think of it as a certain encryption method, without the right encryption, you can't add it to iTunes.
Hope this helps

  • MPEG vs. Wave & MP3

Can anyone help with converting bought music from iTUNES to MP3 or WVI. Cannot import to other MP3 devices.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Music purchased from the iTunes Music Store can be played on five computers, transferred to an iPod, or can be burned to audio CDs and data CDs an unlimited number of times.
However, each unique playlist can only be burned to an audio CD 7 times.
As you have found out it is not possible to convert the tracks to mp3.

  • My password list no longer appears under the options menu, How do I get it back?

The password manager that used to appear under the options menu has completely disappeared. The little lock icon is also nowhere to be found. Does this have something to do with blur? How do I restore my browser the way it used to be so that I can review my list of stored passwrds? I've tried to look in blur to see if they are there - no luck. I'm not sure how the long the problem has existed. I happened to notice just now when a site that normally remembers my log in (a credit card that I make a payment on each month) failed to display it and of course I couldn't remember, not having actually typed it in for years.

    Hi philipp.
Thanks for answering. Here's the entire contents of the page. Probably too much information but I wasn't sure what you needed. I deleted the some of the lines referring to my printer settings because the info exceeded the character limit. I very much doubt they have any relevance to the problem

  • 1 second media pending, random occur

CS5 on Win7 64Bit, 6.4GB RAM reserved for CS5, Quadcore 2.4, all data on internal HDD, all Cachefiles and other Data in Projectfolders.
    1440x1080 (1.3333) Project, 25 fps, PAL, 48000Hz, 1.5hours duration, 69 different Objects, biggest 9.2GB, mpeg, m2ts, mp3, wav
    I exported the movie with CS5 Mediaencoder in PAL, 1280x720, 25 fps, Quality 4.0, MPEG, 384Kbit/s, 48kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo, VBR, 1-Pass, Min. 4.00, Goal 10.00, Max 18.50 MBit/s
Random "Media Pending" screen appears for one second in the exported file which is flawless apart from that. They don't appear in the premiere editor though. The preview never has the media pending screens.
I did found out though, that they appear mostly whenever it jumps from a little object to the big objects. I used 4 cameras of which one was on a tripod recording line in sound and the stage from above. so if I use one of the other cameras to cover the part where "Media Pending" occurs, then it gets only shifted to the point where I stopped covering it, but again only for one second, eventhough its the same object just a bit later.
    solutions anyone?
    Philipp

    Welcome to the forum.
Media Pending means just that - the program is processing some aspect of the media in use. There could be several reasons for this. The program could be Indexing the material. This happens with MPEG material most often. This ARTICLE will give you a bit more background.
It could also be that some other program, like Windows Indexing is locking the material, and PrPro cannot access it at that moment. This ARTICLE will give you a bit of background on that.
There are probably a few other causes, and maybe others will chime in with some of those.
    Good luck,

  • IPhoto 6 freezes up requiring force quit - help!

I loaded all my JPEGs and MPEG4s from my Sony DSCW1 onto 2 DVDS and imported them into iPhoto, creating new albums but keeping the DVDs as the path, ie not copying them to the hard disc. Now iPhoto starts up fine and works for a while but then a message comes up saying 'Cannot find MPEG 065', sometimes it's a different MPEG. It offers a 'cancel' option, but this doesn't work. The spinning wheel then starts and the iPhoto icon in the dock starts bouncing. The only command that then works is Force Quit. I can then restart it and it will work for a while until the same thing repeats. Any ideas?

    Macbook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Art2007:
That't one of the issues with the alias system and video files. You're better off creating a separate library for just the videos so as to not disrupt your primary library. iPhoto doesn't do that with plain image files that are referenced by just alias file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • A Bag of Hurt

To paraphrase Steve: SL is a bag of hurt. Not talking about the major problems. I corrected or never had them. I just find it slower and its added features are just not worth it for me. 10.5.8 is faster & more stable IMO. On to my questions: 3 months after upgrading to 10.6 (including updates) on my Early 09 mini (2.GHZ w/2 G RAM), I reverted back to 10.5 which is what it came with when new out of the box. I'm running that off a FW HD. I'm upgrading to the new 2.53 mini soon. When I get it, am I SOL running 10.5.8? Isn't this Mini the same as the Early 09 model...just a faster processor & more ram? Meaning: is it compatible with 10.5? I plan to keep 10.6 on internal drive in the hope that some day it will live up to its promise. But for now I would like to continue to boot 10.5.8 off the external w/the new model. Is that possible? Does it include the EFI that enables using 4 G ram on 10.5? And are there any other pitfalls doing this?
If not, is it too much to hope that 10.6 will run better on a Mini initially installed when new out of the box and not upgraded over a previous 10.5 system?

Star....nice set up. Why did you get the new Mini when you upgraded the Early 09 so nicely? Were you planning on a 2nd one anyway? Or is there a nice speed bump with that extra .53 GHZ on the CPU? AND I didn't know Apple techs would upgrade the HD using 3rd party gear. Do they do that in the US?
David....yes, unfortunately my boot-up time takes twice as long, accessing & navigating the net via Safari or Firefox is much slower (in Leopard its almost instantaneous), my vids (Flash, QT, Mpeg, etc) sometimes stutter, scrubbing through vids stalls or locks up, accessing some programs gives me the beachball for a second or two- even the iLife programs. And some Flash downloader programs run quirky- one blacks out the screen entirely. (A known issue claimed to be SL's fault not the program's and is corrected by using the Control-Option-Command + 8 key combo twice to cycle thru a neg back to positive screen). Not a lot of fun. After a few months of updating the OS & some programs I still had a slower OS. And this is a relatively new computer without a lot of crap on it. My iTunes & iPhoto library are on the external HD & my 320 GB internal HD has 220 GB free. Not sure if a clean install will fix all these problems but I may do it to see if it speeds things up. Though some here in the discussion groups say it doesn't. Funny thing...I stopped at my local Apple store today & played with new 2.53 Mini and it was fast loading Mail, Safari, and all the iLife programs. Instantaneous loads just like I have on 10.5 but not 10.6 . I have no idea why this OS works well for some & not others.

  • Can Firefox automatically return to a file with a media link after the media has played?

    WIndows XP, Firefox 33.11.
html documents have lines of dialogue text and a link to the audio of each dialogue line.
The audio is sometimes mp3, sometimes wav.
Clicking on a link plays the audio OK, however when the audio finishes, one has to manually
click back to the document. This is inconvenient when sifting through numerous lines of dialogue.
Is there a way to automatically re-display the document as soon as the audio finishes playing.

    HI sayang,
I understand that opening an audio file in the same tab disrupts the viewing of the previous website you were browsing.
There is no feature built into Firefox that does this, however there are some features that you can try to have an alternative:
For example, opening the audio file in a new tab by right clicking on the link is a possibility. Also using the hot key Alt + Enter when clicking on the media url.

  • Conforming problem in PRE 7.0

I have a somewhat shaky VOB on a DVD that was captured from a failing VHS-C camcorder onto a DVD. I can play the DVD just fine on the computer and on the DVD player, but when PRE 7.0 tries to conform the clip, it gets an error, "Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Is there some parameter I need to set to get around this problem, or do I just need to discard this clip and try again?
The VOB is attached. It's too large to attach -- 1 gb.
I thank you in advance for your assistance.

This ARTICLE will give you background on VOB's. If they are 100% DVD-compliant, then PrE (and PrPro, as of CS4.1) will Import them.
If your DVD is not 100% compliant, then there are a few things to try:
1.) Copy the .VOB to your HDD and rename it .MPEG. Sometimes, this works, but it depends on what is inside of the .VOB
2.) Hook your DVD player up to either your video camera, or your A-D bridge, and Capture the footage. Note: you will NOT have device control, and your video camera MUST have pass-through capabilities.
3.) Rip the DVD, as per this ARTICLE. There are other programs too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Unexpected Problem - NSinternalinconsistency

Hi guys, my name is Matt, I'm new to the forum, but glad to see some useful posts. I've been having a lot of trouble with STP 2.02, and are especially annoyed by this message:
    "An Unexpected Problem NSinternalinconsistency Exception
    Invalid Parameter not satisfying: startPoint"
It pops up quite often when I try to move audio files (generally .aiff, sometimes .wav) around in the project timeline, sometimes not allowing you to move the files, sometimes crashing, and causing erratic behaviour (e.g. sounds playing a good time before the playhead crosses their audio region in the timeline!)
Quite obviously this makes it v. hard to sync up SFX to visual effects.
Other variances of the error message are:
    "NSinternalinconsistency Exception'
    Invalid parameter not satisfying:
EQUAL_POSITIONS (next point position, section position)"
    and:
    "NS Range Exception
    *-[NSCF Array obect Atindex:]:
    index (2147483646) beyond bounds (3)"
Other probs have been channel inserts magically resetting themselves after getting the EQ just right or limiter settings etc ...
I do post production sound design work, and am working on a relatively large project, and generally have a video file playing whilst I work (to sync SFX etc etc...) But these errors are making it very difficult to get any kind of real work done ...
Can anyone help ? I saw the posts about enabling fonts, but they were all enabled already ... Any kind of feedback or info would be great !!!
Here's what I'm running it on:
    OSX 10.4.11 Dual 2.3 Ghz PPC G5 - 2 Gb DDR2 SDRAM
It is a real shame cos it looks like STP has some great features, just that it seems so buggy and inconsistent that it's hard to get it stable.
    Thanks for your time.
    Matt

I have not experienced this issue myself, there are no Apple support docs on it, and I can't find anything on Google. It looks like an issue unique to your system setup.
All I can suggest is making sure all the latest patches are installed, then trash preferences. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the entire Final Cut Studio suite. It could be an issue caused by an upgrade install (if that's what you did).
Sorry I can't help you further.

  • What are the best settings to make a DVD?

    Hi!!!
I want to make a DVD. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. My video uses a image (i havent chosen the width x height yet because i do not know what is the best for picture quality on DVD, any advice?). I also use text which is made by clicking on Add Titles in Premiere Pro. Also i have a mp3 which plays throughout. (There is actually no moving video, just an image still, and the text I add which changes every few seconds)
My question is: For optimal picture and sound quality on DVD, what are the best settings to begin the project with? (i.e. PAL? HD?, etc). Second question is: For optimal picture and sound quality on DVD, what settings should i have when exporting? (i.e. Format: MPEG2? MPEG2-DVD? H.264? ect,   Preset: 1440 x 1080i? PAL DV High Quality? etc)
Note: after exporting the file, i will send the master to a DVD duplicating company who will put the file onto DVD for me.
    Many, many thanks!

To give you just a bit more background, for DVD-Video (well, if it's burned, it's officially DVD-ROM, but you get the picture), the Transcoding will be done to MPEG-2. For the best Audio, I would stick with PCM/WAV, which will be slightly larger, but with better fidelity. Note that with BD, you have some other choices, but fewer for DVD-Video. Also, even though MPEG Audio was optional in PAL-land, it is falling out of favor. The two choices are DD AC3 (a flavor of MPEG), and PCM/WAV, which will give you the best Audio.
With Adobe Dynamic Link, you do not need to be too concerned with the Transcoding yet. In Encore, you can choose the parameters for the Transcoding, or leave it set to Automatic and Encore will calculate the space on the disc, and come up with a very good Transcode setting. If you decide that you want to do those settings yourself, please spend some time on the Internet reading about "bit-budgeting." There are also 3rd party Transcoders, that some feel are superior to those used in the Adobe products. There are several recommendations in this forum. Again, you will want to study bit-budgeting first.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Booking

I am running version 7.1 (unfortunately cannot upgrade at this time). I have several files booked. Whenever I update the book (just the numbering) the screen goes from maximized to un maximized (see screen printout). Is there any way to prevent this from happening? The only way I have found to re maximize the files is to open each and every file and use the save as feature in order to have each file maximized. Also, I have several video files linked by using file - import object - create from file - select link and then link to the file. I transport the files from my desktop computer to my laptop computer. I have the linked files in the same directory on each computer, however whenever I transport the files I have to relink each and every file separately. Is there a way to mass update this also. One more thing the imported video - under object properties - the default is color = black and overprint = from color. Is there a way to have the default to be something else? I change each file to be white and overprint.

    1. With regards to files maximizing and minimizing, most of this is controlled by Windows and there's little that you can do about it in FM.
    2. Linking, i.e. using OLE technology, is a practice that is not recommended with FM. What video formats are you trying to include in the FM files? Are these meant to be shown in PDFs as the deliverable? Your options are quite limited with FM7.1. IIRC, FM7.1 only supported QuickTime on the Mac version. However, using Shlomo Perets TimeSavers tool, you could embed additional formats (e.g. FLV, SWF, MPEG, AVI, QuickTime, WAV, AIFF, MP3,         JPEG) in the PDF with the appropriate version of Distiller.

  • [Solved] .desktop file not being recognized

I've got a .desktop file that I created in ~/.local/share/applications but is not showing up.  I thought I remembered how to do this but apparently forgot.  By putting it in ~/.local/share/applications it should show in the menu, right?  I created this, and made it executable:

    Hi.
First of all I know the NSS322 is a small business solution, but I was planning to purchase it for home use as I'm a big fan of CISCO hardware and my entire network and cable equipment is made by CISCO anyway. I hope it is suitable for home use, after all... So I was going to use it as a storage/streamer for video files, photos and backup in Raid 1 configuration with 2x2TB WD Black discs, connected to a Cisco 4200 wireless router. Thus, I've got a few question, hopefully someone here would be able to help me out with them.
    1.      Is it DLNA capable with wirelessly streaming content to, say, DLNA enabled devises such as TVs, BD players (PS3), etc?
    2.      Does it accept 3TB drives and the 7200rpm drives? And in this regard, would a 2TB WD Black series drives be sufficient for it to operate a solid Raid 1?
    3.      Could it be wirelessly shared with several computers when used with a CISCO 4200 router primarily for storing downloaded files directly to the NAS without storing it to a local PC's HDD first?
    4.      Probably the most important question I’ve seen a number of pictures of  NSS322 and I’m very confused as of the actual color of the side and top panels. Some pictures show it to be grey side panels, almost white. Others pictures show it to be much darker, like charcoal black. I mean since I’m not going to put it into a server shelf and use it at home - it’s rather important for the “wife’s approval” factor
Thanks in advance for any input on this!
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for the feedback!
    1. Is there a list of video/audio file formats that it is capable of streaming/transcoding? I assume the actual media server software is not WMP12, and then what is it? And I know you posted the link to the data sheet, but it gives me: Forbidden File or Application
Sorry about the Datasheet. Apparently it is for Cisco Partners. Here's a quote:
    Twonky UPnP Media Server
    • DLNA 1.5 Certified
    • Real-time and background photo transcoding
    • Supports UPnP and DLNA Media players such as Game Consoles (PlayStation 3, PSP, Xbox 360), Media Adapters, Mobile Devices (e.g. iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad with UPnP/DLNA Application)
    • Supports formats: video (asf, flv, f1v, f4v, mp4, mpeg), audio (mp3, wave), picture (bmp, gif, jpg, png)
    2. Do you think we could expect 3TB support in future firmware updates? Do you know if CISCO is planning to release them at a similar pace as say, QNAP?
I do not have any "official" word on this. I am sure that we will see official 3TB support in the near future. As I stated earlier, 3TB drives may work on the current firmware even though they are not on the approved list yet.
    3. Can this NAS warn me in case of a drive failure (reallocated sectors, etc) with SMART warning that can be detected with diagnostic software on PC? I mean is it capable of detecting those warning and alarm me, or will it just wait until the drive finally dies and can not be accessed?
Absolutely! The NSS 300 series can be configured to send email alerts whenever there is an "event". It also has syslog support: "You can enable this option to save the event logs and connection logs to a remote syslog server." (From the GUI) It can also act as a syslog server if you wish so your other network devices can send their logs to the NAS for future use.
    4. Here comes the deal-breaker What I meant is there are several variations of color even here at cisco.comone is really dark - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/ps4159/ps9954/ps10817/ps10853/NSS322-200x160.jpgand the other image shows it rather light http://www.cisco.com/cisco/web/solutions/small_business/products/storage/nss300/images/NSS-300-hero-705x180.jpgand of course there are other websites that have it even whiter (and kinda ugly if you ask me)! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822124005Do you know if color changed to a darker shade with newer revisions (like shown on cisco.com)?
I see your point and I certainly understand the confusion. Your second link is the most accurate depiction of the color. The surface is metal so you could send it to any body shop for some sandblasting and a fresh new coat of paint. Warning: Sandblasting and/or painting your NAS will void the warranty!
