MPEG-4 to ACC

I am trying to load some songs from my itunes to my ipod shuffle, now i understand that the shuffle can only take a few file types. many of the songs that i own are video files. Is there a way to load these song on the my shuffle with out having to repurchase them as a song file? it would seem stupid that we pay more for the video file and we dont have the option for a simple song file conversion with it...

  • ALAC to ACC Conversion During a Sync

In the past I imported most of the iTunes music on my Mac is in ALAC format.  The ACC formats are pretty good now so I don't mind using 256 ACC.
Will iTunes convert my ALAC music on my Mac to 256 ACC on my iPhone.  If so, how do I configure it to do that?

We are getting closer, but still not quite agreeing.
You said, "you don't need to restore. If you removed the 128 MP3 in iTunes, just sync. It will remove the MP3 version and put the new version on."
Assume there is no 128 MP3 song in iTunes on the Mac to delete.  The 128 MP3 version on the iPhone came from downconverting during a previous download.
"Or simply make the change, stop the sync and restart the sync.
Or let it complete the sync then resync it."
Your second statement is not consistent with your first, which was, "I assume an iTunes sync would not replace the 128 MP3 iPhone versions with 256 ACC ones."
Are you suggesting I go through the files on the iPhone, one by one, and delete all that have compression quality less than 256 ACC?  That would be tedious.  I just plugged in my iPhone, selected Music, and then tried to sort the Kind column by clicking on "Kind".  It did not sort them by "Kind".  It starts listing ACC, then lists MPEG, then lists ACC again.  As far as I can tell I can only sort on Genres, Artists, and Albums.  Even if I could sort on Kind, it would not sort on Bitrate, so I could not group the 256 ACC files.
So I state again, there is no non-tedious method to upgrade the 128 MP3 files on the iPhone, except for deleting and syncing the all of the music on the iPhone.

  • How do I move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer???

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • Choppy video after Quicktime update

    Hi there,
I recently updated to Quicktime 7.0.4 because iTunes 6.X required it to work properly. Unfortunately, all of my iMovie HD projects now run very poorly making them hard to edit and review. The movies vary in length from just under 2 minutes to 18 minutes.
I have sufficient RAM and hard disc space so my guess is that this has to do with Quicktime and/or imported music from iTunes. Do I go back to Quicktime 7.0.1 and give up iTunes (kind of unrealistic) or is there another solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    John

I found that I only have this issue with songs in ACC format (songs I've downloaded from iTunes) and not songs in MPEG-1, Layer 3 format (songs I've copied from old CDs I own or have converted). I converted the ACC songs to MPEG-1, Layer 3 format in iTunes, and the problem is solved. I've tested this with multiple songs and found this solution to work.
I'm not in front of my Mac at this time, but I know I converted the songs to MPEG-1, Layer 3 by burning them to a CD from my library in iTunes. I then set my preferences (it was on the Advanced tab I think) in iTunes to import (I think that was the button) in MPEG format versus ACC (the default). I then re-imported the songs from the CD. Then went to Advanced->Convert to MPEG and converted the songs. That created a second song in my library that was in MPEG format. You can verify that by highlighting the song and going to File->Get Info in iTunes (I think that is the option). Then use MPEG version of the song in iMovie and see if the playback is better. Again, I've tested this multiple times and it has worked for me.

  • I KNOW THE BEST SETTING FOR "HANDBRAKE" !!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all Brendan here!
I have to say this handbrake thing was very frustrating at the start, but with alot of trial and error, I have all the settings fine tuned!!!
    From DVD movie to iPod!
    You can trust these settings!
    File format: Mp4 file.
    Codecs: MPEG-4 Video/ACC AUDIO.
In AUDIO, change only the sample rate to 48000.
    Encoder: FFmpeg
    Average bitrate: 700
    Framerate: 29.97
These are the only settings you need to be sure of, to
    have concious free ripping.
Other then that you need to change the Picture Settings
to 320 by 192(for this turn aspect ratio off). Then you need to adustust the left & right in crop, tick the custom icon & then add about 30 onto both left and right sections in crop,(this may result in figures no matching, but as long as the picture looks good things will be ok).
I hope this has helped one and all.......Bren!

I have done 15 tests and i'm telling you....there is no diff in quality between h.264 & mpeg4. After all the I pod cannot use the full potential of h.264 & it takes over 2 times longer to rip!
There are differences if you examine the videos side-by-side in a magnified or zoomed in context and compare the file sizes produced. (Or try taking the iPod output and upconverting it for HD display.) The only question is "do you care about these differences?" On an iPod screen the differences are likely to be less than discernible. To give the same gradation of color transition or texture to objects, an MPEG4 file requires 3-4 times as much data as an H.264 file. If time is more important than storage space, then use MPEG4. If storage space is critical and you have plenty of time to spend on the conversion process, then use a high quality, high compression, multi-pass H.264 format.

  • Why is my file "Apple Lossless" and not ACC or Mpeg?!?!?!?!  HELP!!!

Ok, so this is the first time this is happening to CDs I'm importing. These last couple I have done are coming up as "Apple Lossless", whatever that means! And not the ACC or MPEG formats. How do I put it in those and what the heck is happening that my newest imported songs are going directly to this lossless thing?!
    -Linda

If the default encoder for iTunes has been set to Apple Lossless, songs added to iTunes will be added in this format; you can change this by following these instructions. The procedure is the same for all systems running iTunes 5.0 and newer. To transfer the Apple Lossless files to the iPod shuffle, look at this page.

  • MPEG vs ACC audio files

I've been listening to my MPEG and ACC audio files on my iPOD video for a few months now and I just noticed that my iPOD no longer has any of the MPEG audio files that I have in my iTunes library. Please help!

If you have mp3 versions (or some other version) of them sure. If you're asking if the AAC file of a MP3 counterpart is necessary, then the answer is no. They are two seperate and distinct files. Just different audio codecs.
It is completely up to you if you want to have AAC or MP3 files or whatever else. Just make sure you don't delete the only copy of your song is what I'm getting at.

  • Distinguishing MPEG from ACC with out "Get Info"

When I convert newly downloaded music to MP3 format I go to "Recently Added" to find the MP3 copy. I then have to go to "Get Info" to figure out which one is the MP3 version. Is there an easier way of doing this? I tried "Display Duplicates" but, both files are displayed with out the MP3 file being distinguished from the original download. I just want to burn the MP3 version to a disk.
    Thanks for your help.

In the column headers, right click and select Kind (or go to menu View > View options).
MP3 is shown as MPEG audio file.

  • How do I convert an .mp4 h.264 file into a simple Mpeg 2 file...

I've had Quicktime for quitesometime now.
I'been been through many QT versions but version 7 series, I think has problems.
    I've been dl'ing .mp4 files, with h.264 codecs.
Quicktime plays them wonderfully but I'd like to put the movies on my media servers and stream them to my network dvd players(thin-clients).
They can stream mpeg 1 and 2 great, as well as Xvid, Divx, and even VOBs'.
I installed Quicktime 7 along time ago, and tried an export to many different data file formats. I would either get no video or no sound. I have just about every codec needed to do any conversion to Divx or Xvid.
    I also installed 3ivx.
Can anyone tell me how something so simple can be so difficult? QuickTime, if it plays it, and shows that its capable of exporting to different formats, should be able to do the job.
Beleive me, I know what your thinking. I've going as far as formatting, reinstalling Windows XP Pro, Updating, etc many times just to try to re-encode these .mp4 files into something big, yes, a large RAW file. Something that can be easily converted into anything else such as the basic old Mpg 1 or 2 file...
Please, any help would be apprecaited!
    NeuroPsyche

I tried ffmpeg but it just doesn't seem like it does a very good job at converting. I dont know why, but I think its because the .mp4 file has 6.1 sound or that new acc codec.
I'm not sure about it, but when I do use ffmpeg, the sound doens't come out.
    Thanks!
    Dave.
QuickTime doesn't have the capability to export to
MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, at least not without third-party
codecs (and I'm not aware of any for Windows for
those formats, though there could be some somewhere).
You might want to take a look at the open-source ffmpeg which can
convert H.264 to MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 (as well as a
    number of other formats).
    Hope this helps.

  • In my Music Library the MPEG format files are greyed out and I cannot edit them, any ideas?

I have imported both ACC and MPEG files into my Itunes music library. On the ACC tunes I can edit information through Get Info command. On the MPEG tunes I cannot edit the information through Get Info command as all entries are greyed out. Any ideas?

  • ACC Conversion w/iTunes

I'm trying to convert this file to an ACC and once its done it still says that its an MPEG. Does it have to be ACC anyways?
    Stan

It doesnt have to be AAC, but it helps if the MPEG file is a large one. If your MPEG file is more than one meg per minute, then it will be smaller if you convert it to AAC with no discernable quality reduction. you will save a LOT of space.
EXAMPLE: A song file that is 5 minutes and 45 seconds is 8MB. After I converted it, it magically became: 5.4MB. This will save tons of space if you have several thousand songs.
If the track is a podcast MPEG however, then i reccomend not convert it because a 20 minute podcast is usually set to the lowest MPEG setting and is only like 7 MB, whereas the same file in AAC would be like 18MB.

  • Suggestions on workflow for MPEG2 w/ AC3 to H.264 w/ Multichannel ACC

I am struggling with how to do this and would appreciate any suggestions.
I have Video that is MPEG2 (Transport Stream) with Video PID and AC3 3/2 Audio.
I want to do minor edits, then export (aiming at but not only Apple-TV) a H.264 (Mpeg4-10) Video with MultiChannel ACC audio or AC3.
If I bring the video as an asset into FCP it has no audio. I assume this is because QT can not see or decode AC3. (and it takes a LONG TIME on a Mac Pro with 2gig to do this)
How would I use the packages in Final Cut Studio to move from MPEG2-AC3 to H.264-Multichannel Audio.
    Thanks in advance.
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   also a Mini, iBook, and Power Pook

You have to demux if you want to edit with the audio
in FCP. Some will say not, but it is so. The only way
FCP will show an editable audio track, i.e. with HDV,
is when you capture it. If you try to import it from
say a firestore you will not get the audio. (HDV
    again)
It sounds like you are looking for a simple one step
conversion, and there isn't a free one. There are
Looking for the workflow, and if need what addition tools.
some programs you can BUY that will convert MPEG
files, and even edit mpeg files directly (mpeg
splitter I think is one) but if you want to use what
Would there be one to take it to H.264 with multichannel audio ACC?
you have you'll have to demux a few times it would
seem to get all of the audio tracks you want, then
rebuild the project in FCP, then compress them again
So the concept here is use Streamclip, export the video with 2 channels, a few times. Bring the each into the project, split Video from the 2 track audio, build a single video, and add the 6 audio channels. Then, EDIT.
in the H.264 format you want. But FCP or compressor
will not do this conversion for you.
If FCP and Compressor will not, what would? What does Apple use for Quicktime previews that are H.264 with multichannel Audio?
If there are better tools, please let me know.
