MPEG files no audio, pause spontaneously

All my MPEG files play without audio until the seventh second where the video pauses but the playhead continues moving along the timeline. This occurs with .mpg files only in Quicktime (and iTunes), they play just fine in VLC, .mov and .mp4 files play correctly.
I was using 7.0.4, I reinstalled 7.0.1 and the problem still occured. I reinstalled 10.4.6 combo update - it didn't help. Safe Boot - nothing. Repaired permissions. Trashed preference files and again nothing. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I tried encoding an mpg into an mp4, it worked. (and thanks for the tip). But I presume I'll have to do that for every MPEG i have... Please is there anybody that knows How to correct the problem so that it isn't reproduceable.

  • Audio missing when saving a project from PE13 to a mpeg file the audio is missing.

    Hi All,
As always thanks in advance for the help.
I have been saving a small video project of short clips into a movie and every time I complete the save to my computer as an MPG video when I go into playback the audio is gone.
IF I re-open PE and play the sections where the music should be it is still there. I am stumped and tried multiple times to save with no success

I have tried to force loss of audio for a Premiere Elements 13 Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG NTSC DVD Standard export and cannot. So let us try this
    approach...
With Premiere Elements 13 Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG NTSC DVD Standard, click on the Advanced Button.
Do your Video Tab, Audio Tab, and Multiplexer Tab look like the following?
    Video Tab
    Audio Tab
    Multiplexer Tab
See if your settings are the same as mine. I have no problem with the MPEG2.mpg from the NTSC DVD Standard.
If we agree on the settings, then look at the situation when you change the Multiplexer Audio Format Settings from Dolby Digital
to MPEG and lastly try PCM.
    Looking forward to your results.

  • Urgent!!  Problems muxing .m2v files and audio!! MPEG Streamclip/Compressor

    Hello!
I am under an urgent deadline to upload a short 6 min documentary clip for a client to review for screening this week. The footage was shot in 1080/60i HDV.
Usually, I find the best quality and fastest way to do this is to export directly from my FCP sequence using the '150 min Best Quality' DVD settings in compressor to get an .m2v video file and .ac3 audio file. Then I open the .m2v files in MPEG Streamclip which links it with my .ac3 file, then do 'Export MPEG with MP-2 audio". This gives me a single, muxed file that I can then upload to YouTube or Vimeo.
However, with this project, when I open up my .m2v file in MPEG Streamclip, it's recognizing the .ac3 file and I can see the info for it in the MPEG Streamclip window, but when I play the file in MPEG Streamclip or mux it, I don't hear any audio. Furthermore, after about 5 seconds into the clip, the playhead will continue moving, but the video will freeze, then maybe pick up again later. The .m2v video will play back smoothly in VLC player or Quicktime player, but not in MPEG Streamclip.
I've tried exporting different little sections of the timeline to see if maybe I had some corrupted footage or whatnot. I even exported a small clip from an older HDV project to test. But no matter where I export from, I am running into the same problem. I can bring the .m2v file and .ac3 file into DVD Studio Pro and burn a DVD with no problem, but I can't mux them. If I build the DVD file in DVD SP and try to open the .VOB file with MPEG Streamclip, I get the same problem. I even tried using a different software to mux (ffmpegX) but to no avail. When I try with ffmpegX, it either tells me I'm dropping frames, or if it works and it muxes it, when I open the MPEG file, it'll stutter at about 5 seconds in as well and I can't hear any audio, even though there is supposed to be audio in the muxed file.
I think I might have updated my Quicktime a few days ago with the system update, and maybe updated a few other things, so I don't know if this has any bearing on the problems I'm running into. But I was able just a few days ago to export HDV 1080/60i using this workflow without any problems.
I realize I have other export options, but this always seems to me to be the best quality and fastest way of doing it vs. encoding an H.264 which, on my machine is RIDICULOUSLY slow...I need to be uploading multiple versions of the cut to the client, and really need help! Thanks so much in advance!

what you want is an m2v program file. Export a reference copy from FCP (uncheck Make Movie Self Contained") That's very fast. Bring it into Compressor. In the settings panel find the MPEG-2 settings folder. Select Program Stream. Adjust to your liking and run. The audio and video will already be "muxed" when it's done and using compressor 3 you can set it to upload to YouTube, Mobile or similar sites.

  • MPEG-2 Output audio & video in ONE File

I have a lot of videos to batch in MPEG-2 and I need the output to be ONE .M2V file with audio in it. I know that I can do this with Quicktime Pro but that requires me to do this one video at a time. My Compressor presets are great but the output is a M2V file and a separate AIFF file.
Is there any preset setting in Compressor where the MPEG-2 file includes both audio and video in same file?

OOHH.. you need a transport stream?
and since you did mention broadcasting, it makes sense now.
i use the optibase encoder to create elementary .m2v and .ac3 files, then i create a .cfg file and i use manzanitas multiplexer (sp).
but if you dont have that, you can also use MPEG Streamclip to export to your transport file.
as far as creating transport streams on compressor, unless someone knows otherwise, the answer would be no.
but do check out the above app i suggest. it works, but not as good as the multiplexer, but it IS free
    Mikey
rereading your post, i see you are asking about a batch transport encoder. the closest i can think of is the above mentioned app by manzanita.
    here is the link:
    http://www.lilapple.com/mp2tsme.html
it is both a gui based app, but is more powerful (IMHO) command line.
the gui does have a batch option, but you can just as fast write the command syntax.
it works wonders for me! also, it has a trial version, check it out!

  • Audio won't play on MPEG files from camera?

I'm having issues with my new video camera. I want to use my final cut express to edit the videos, but the audio on the video files won't play. The videos play just fine, just no sound. I've turned the volume all the way up on my mac, but still nothing.
Any suggestions to make the audio work?
(I'm not the most familiar with computers, so simple/specific instructions would be best)

You have to separate out the audio and video tracks (referred to as "demuxing") of an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file before you import it into FCE. Try MPEG StreamClip to convert the MPEG files into an editing format (DV Stream, for instance). If your camera outputs MPEG-2, you'll also need the MPEG-2 Playback Component.
    Hope this helps.

  • Editing MPEG-2 files with embedded MPEG Layer 2 audio in FCP?

I need to edit .mpg files, MPEG2 with MPEG Layer 2 audio embedded. I can read the files in Quicktime no problem, but if I import them in FCP, there is no audio in the timeline, only video. If I try to build a DVD, DVD Studio does not recognize the file type. If I try to export it from QT in any other format, there is no audio in the new file.
The MPEG files have been created by a Canopus encoder card inside a Windows based broadcast video server at work. I would have thought that MPEG files were somewhat standard... I guess not!
Is there a way to convert these files so that I may use them in FCP or DVD studio Pro? Or configure the apps... or have a special codec?

Download the freeware program MPEG Streamclip. It can demux and convert the files to match your FCP Sequence settings (in most cases).

  • No audio on .mpeg files with Quicktime 7.1.3

    Hello All,
I am not getting any audio on .mpeg files that I play with Quicktime Player 7.1.3, but I get audio just fine on .avi files. Any suggestions?

Jon, I did it that already, but when I want to open de file thru IPHOTO, Quicktime came up automatically. IS there any way to change that on the IPHOTO Settings?
Okay, I understand now. You are looking for a double-click that opens the movie in an alternative player just as double-clicking a photo can be set to edit in an external graphic application. Looks like you cannot do this at this time. It appears the application is "hardwired" to the QT Player. Just checked and while double-clicking on a movie stored in the iPhoto Library at the Finder level works normally, doing so from within the application seems to intercept and re-direct the movie back to QT Player. Looks like it is time to request a feedback change to add this feature to iPhoto. Sorry I couldn't help.
Does any one know if Quicktime support MPEG-1 files?
As to your original question, QT includes "Playback Only" support for standard MPEG-1 files. If you check the data stream info, you are likely to find someone used non-standard audio compression. E.g., AC3 audio is not natively supported by QT. In fact, very few "muxed" audio formats are supported by QT. You could, of course, use MPEG Streamclip to see what audio codec was used and if compatible might be able to convert it to a standard MPEG/MP2 file which should not require reconverting the video data.

  • MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^

MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^ and why wont the music files play anymore??

I reinstalled OSX on my macbook which previously played all avi files with no difficulties. Now I am having difficulties playing Avi files with quicktime PRO that use the Mpeg layer 3 codec. I have done the following with no success: downloaded flip 4 mac, divx, xvid, 3ivx, Xvid codecs, changed MIME settings, and deleted and reinstalled.
Depending on the specific version and sometimes the ordering in which they were installed, you may have created a conflict among the components here. While most current VidX components should be able to play MPEG Layer-3 audio, v5.1.1 is the only free VidX codec that is bi-directional. If that is not a problem, then I would recommend you remove (or "hide") all components in the main "Library > QuickTime" folder. Next I would determine if one (or more) of the AVI associated components can actually play the specific files mentioned on their own. You do this by installing a compenent to be tested, opening the player with one of the problem movies, and checking for correct audio and video playback. Log your results, close the player, remove the tested component, and move on to the next component to be tested. Once you deterime which component(s) may function correctly, I would then move on to determine which specific components are in conflict by repeating the tests but leaving the components installed after each test. In this case start with a component that is known to work and is the one you most desire to use (if more than one works). If the player stops working, then you have located a potential conflict. Set the offending component aside and continue testing until all components have been tested and are either installed or set aside. The last step is to simply evaluate component alternatives and configure you system for those files most often played. In my case the VidX v6 Pro components did not seem to get along with the 3ivX D4 v4.5 and/or Casio AVI and/or XVIDDelegate component combination.

  • MPEG vs ACC audio files

I've been listening to my MPEG and ACC audio files on my iPOD video for a few months now and I just noticed that my iPOD no longer has any of the MPEG audio files that I have in my iTunes library. Please help!

If you have mp3 versions (or some other version) of them sure. If you're asking if the AAC file of a MP3 counterpart is necessary, then the answer is no. They are two seperate and distinct files. Just different audio codecs.
It is completely up to you if you want to have AAC or MP3 files or whatever else. Just make sure you don't delete the only copy of your song is what I'm getting at.

  • Failing to add audio track on mpeg file

Hi and thanks for all good answers the recent days. I'm a new and happy user of PRE8. I'm just about to finish an hour long movie. This is when a serious problem occurs in adding the last movie material to work with.
All thru the project I've added mpeg files without any problems. (Yes I have now started to import these files as AVI with a much better result (less stress on the process) as I have been told to do here). The way I have done this is to add the mpeg files, then saved them for personal computer as AVI and opened them in a new project, cutted them finished and opened them in the original main project file. This has worked well.
But the very last mpeg file I am going to add came into PRE project without it's audio track. The audio track exists. It plays in media player. But does not join the video track into PRE.
Is the only solution here to import the file from the camera-dvd?
    Best regards, kjetil, norway

Use Windows Movie Maker or Prism outside of PE to first convert the suspect file to DV-AVI.
See the FAQ on where to get Prism, WMM should also be on your system, or can be found at www.microsoft.com:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
Once converted, test file outside PE and make sure it plays okay.
Then import the DV-AVI into PE.
This might get you to the promised land...

  • Quick time v.7.1.3 play mpeg files without sound

From day to an other day, I dont know why, but quick time stop to produce sound and it is affect too the player of Itunes. It is the same effect for all my mpeg files.
My mpeg, codec MPEG1 muxed, files look ok because mplayer OSX play them correctly.

Hi! I'm having a similar issue. Also on QT 7.1.3 and the latest Flip4WMV, all of the sudden a couple of days ago I lost audio on my MPEG files. In addition, when the video first starts, it pauses for 0.5-2s and then starts playing. The audio indicators at the bottom show a quick spike and then nothing.
I opened the Audio MIDI Setup and under the Audio Output section is says Output Is Not Supported! I also tried the Garageband trick and it does not work.
WMV and MP4 video play just fine. It's only regular MPEG files (I assume MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). And all my files play just fine in VLC and MPlayer2.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA

  • Can i turn an imovie project into an Mpeg file to work on a Windows System?

Hi is there a way of turning an iMovie production into a standard MPeg format to play on windows operating system???

Once i have created and imovie project i am needing to turn it into an bog standard MPeg that will play within a powerpoint presentation supported by windows media player .mov .avi etc don't work not very techy... The only way i have managed to do this so far is to create a dvd then turn it into MPeg using pinnacle on a windows system but i lose a vast amount of quality
I was saying that if you have the right software you can create MPG, MPEG (MPEG2/MPEG-1, layered audio), M2V/AIFF paired elementary stream clips, VOB (MPEG2/AC3 or MPEG2/PCM), TS MPEG-2 stream files, etc., and you would need decide on which typr of file you wanted. If you want VOB with MPEG2/PCM content, then let iDVD image a file and all you have to do is copy the VOB(s) from the image,

  • HELP....AVCHD / MPEG files not playing correctly!

I have been trying to download video that was shot with the new Sony FS100 camera that I'm told are AVCHD or MPEG files to my older Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 timeline, but they are not playing correctly. When I reverse the field dominance, the image plays better but the sound is strange (I was able to speed the sound to 450% and it worked better, but then the balance of the sound from the clip is lost somewhere.).
Any suggestions to make these files play and work correctly? I tried converting them to AVI files but that showed up completely black on the timeline! Anything I've tried either affects the video or audio negatively!  I try either makes the image play or stutterThis was shot in regular SD format, NOT HD, so they should be able to play on  a standard timeline. Can anyone suggest anything to help please? Much appreciated!

  • Can't make MPEG-2 with audio via Compressor

    Hi guys, help,
I'm trying to make a single file MPEG-2 with video AND audio exporting from FCP.
This file is intented for broadcast television, so i can't end up with 2 seperate audio/video files.
Every time I select MULTIPLEXED MPEG-1/LAYER 2 AUDIO I get some *.m2t file which I cannot play in anything. Is it possible to just get a simple MPEG-2 file with audio and video?
    Many thanks.

Are you using Compressor 2 or 3? In v.3 there are 3 MPEG-2 options, listed under Apple/Formats/MPEG-2/
    they are:
Elementary Stream which is your basic .m2v file, video only, used for DVDs
Program Stream which is a .mpg file - probably the one you would want
Transport Stream - .m2t file - what you are getting now.
I am not familiar enough with the different streams to give you a breakdown of what they all mean, but I have encountered similar issues. The .m2t file will play on systems that recognize the format, unforunately the Mac doesn't seem to recognize it natively (and yet it created it!!) The .mpg is probably what you are looking for but I remember having problems building it in Compressor 2 so you might want to consider the upgrade. Worth it for Compressor alone in our shop!
Now for my problem, does anyone know how to get a 5.1 mix embedded into the .m2t file??
