Mpeg Streamclip opening DVD files help

I'm using Mpeg Streamclip 1.9.3b7 on a MacBookPro 15" and trying to rip a 50min episode off of a bought DVD in order to use in FCE to make a showreel for an actor friend. The file is a 1.07Gb .VOB of an MPEG Program Stream kind. When I open it in Streamclip I can only get the last 22 mins of the episode. I've tried with the other episodes on the disk and alternative episodes from a different series of the same programme and getting the same result. I'm brand new to Streamclip, so could very well be making a large schoolboy error, but after scouring forums I haven't found a solution. I've fixed timecode breaks and seem to be able to convert the twenty minutes that I have, but just can't locate the first half of the episode. Could it be copyright protection?
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you.
SJ

Streamclip does not work on encrypted, protected DVD's.  It is against the terms of use on the forum to discuss ways of breaking encryption.  Best bet: contact the producer and get a clean file.

  • MPEG Streamclip Altered Original files.

I recently did a video shoot with a Canon 7D. I loaded 2 16gb cards onto a Lacie Rugged drive into seperate folders. After the shoot all the original files worked fine for playback with Quicktime and editing.
I then used MPEG Streamclip to convert the first cards footage to Apple ProRes. The harddrive ran out of memory halfway through the conversion and MPEG Streamclip canceled the batch conversion.
I went back to the original files and only about 5 random few out of 90 shots would still work with quicktime and editing while the rest no longer open. I read somewhere that if you don't rename the newly converted files then something happens so I deleted the new ProRes files. Nothing changed. I'm guessing that MPEG Streamclip altered the original files somehow?
When trying to open in Quicktime Player 7 I get "The movie could not be opened. The end of the file was reached."
I then tried to open the now working files in VLC and they work fine.
All the footage from the second card all works fine still.
I used VideoSpec to look at what was going on and compare between a working clip and a not working one. There were no difference in format or anything other than duration.
    Container: MOV - Quicktime
    Format: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
    Encoding Profile: [email protected]
Please help me get these files working again! I can not recreate this footage!!!! I know the information is still all there because the files can be played with VLC, I just can't edit with them anymore...

Not likely, more probable that the drive directory or file structure was damaged while trying to write to a full disk.
Do you have the original camera cards, or back up copies?
If you do, return to them and start the process over again with more disk space.
If not, you should backup what QT files you have now on the corrupted disk in case something else occurs.
    After that:
If it were me, I would run Disk Warrior to repair the disk directory -

QuickTime movies are very, very hard to recover if corrupted, but you can try QuickTime Repair from Digital Rebellion, part of the Pro Maintenance Tool Package -

I believe they have a free trial offer.

  • Using MPEG Streamclip for Mac. Help me if you can

Hi, I've found out about MPEG Streamclip in Apple Discussions.
I opened Streamclip for the first time and converted an .mpg file to .mov file by clicking File>Export to Quicktime. It successfully converted quickly and I opened it w/ Quicktime and was satisfied to open its properties and see two individual tracks for visual and audio. This should convert to iPod video format w/ sound, correct? What bugs me is the fact that the file size multiplied by 4, or went from 256MB to 1GB.
I would like to know the perfect exporting settings for good iPod quality (sound and visual) and reasonable size. What scares me is that if and when this newly 1GB file is converted to iPod, it'll be even larger, since a previously successfully converted movie went from 3.5MB to 5.1MB.
I'd like to know your experiences of using Streamclip. Should I experiment? What setting did you use to get the mpeg files to .mov files with smallest size and equivalent quality? Any reply is appreciated, and ones that answer my questions shall be favoured.
    thnx for your time

In a nutshell, YES you should experiment. You should also try iSquint incidentally.
However, MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 has an iPod button if you do File -> Export to MPEG4. Clicking that button sets the parameters to equal what the iPod would need to display without having to convert to a QuickTime movie first. Do one both ways to see if QuickTime and MPEG Streamclip's output looks identical (I've found QuickTime does a better job on animation).

  • MPEG Streamclip ripping DVDs

i am using MPEG streamclip to rip DVDs into DV.
it works fine, except that it only does it in 4GB sements.
once it goes almost 20 miniutes into the movie, it stops and says "write error or disk full", leaving me with a 20 minute DV file, and PLENTY of room on the external HD i'm ripping it to.
it actually stops at the exact same file size every time, down to the byte, i dont remember the exact number, but it's about 4 GB.
i can rip it in segments, but i'd love to just let it create one file. I was wondering if anybody else has run into this before.
    thanks.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, it's the formatting. You should reformat it as Mac OS Extended. Among other things, FCE requires it.
As you know, this will erase anything you currently have on the drive, so be sure to back up whatever you need to keep. But after formatting you will no longer have the 4GB file size limit.
The actual space available on a hard drive is always less than the advertised size; marketers use the term GB loosely; a 300GB drive is actually a 292GB drive by measurement; and when you format the drive, the formatting process requires space also, which is why you end up with 280GB of usable space on what's advertised as a 300GB drive.

Can anyone help a btain dead oldtime Apple customer? I need help and feel as confused as I found Berlin without Checkpoint Charlie better but no geographical signs to help me navigate. Help only refers to slot drives but not to old MacPro hardware.
I have not used an optical disk in a long, long time and a firend needs some design work and she only has files on a DVD.

Are you using the Apple keyboard?
If so, have you pressed the eject button?
If using a PC keyboard, try pressing the F12 key.

  • Ai CS4 keeps freezing when I try to open a file - HELP!!!

Mac OS X Tiger - Ai CS4 freezes when I try to open a file from either dbl-clicking on the file or opening within Ai. This happened all the time with Ai CS3 so I upgraded, now its happening with the new version. Do I need to allocate more memory to Ai?  If yes, how do I do that? I worked when I first installed, but now it will not allow me to open any of my files.  I do not receive an error message, and I have to force quit the app after it freezes. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Download OnyX, clean out your system caches and repair permissions. If it occurs in eitehr version of AI, it hardly qualifies for the usual trash the prefs, but of course that is never wrong, too...

  • How do i use proper settings in mpeg streamclip with m2t files?

    hello,
i have seen this discussion before but not sure what codec i need to transfer to for my type of files...
i shot a video on the **sony hvr z7u** using compact flash cards and the video was shot on 1080i 24 frames per second...all the files are currently in m2t...
i used mpeg streamclip and used the follow settings:
    -apple motion jpeg a
    -100 percent quality
    -uncompressed sound
    -frame size: 1920 x 1080 (unscaled)
    -interlaced scaling was checked
although the files are workable in FCP the files themselves are gigantic...did i use the correct settings?
    thanks very much,

  • Using MPEG Streamclip to convert files for EX-1 sequence

I am trying to use MPEG Streamclip to convert mp4 and mpeg files in order to edit them in the same sequence as my EX-1 footage. What settings should I use on MPEG Streamclip that would be most appropriate for seamlessly editing the former MPEG and mp4 files with the EX-1 footage? Any thoughts on what sequence settings I should use? Right now I have it set as "XDCam Ex 1080p24 VBR" but every time I bring in files I have tried to convert using MPEG Streamclip, they need to render and I'm trying to avoid that. Thanks!

    Thanks for the help

  • MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 Help Needed....

Im having a problem with MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1.. What im trying to do is take a Divx 5.0 video (avi encoded with Handbrake) and edit it into clips without recompressing the clip... Streamclip will let me do this.. However, after I make my edits, and try to save the clipping (doing a Save as AVI) it starts out saving incredibly slow, taking about 5-10 minutes for a few seconds.. Then it will all of a sudden save the rest really quickly.
When I view the clip I just saved, the first few seconds that took a while to save is noticably brighter than the rest of the video.
Anybody have a fox for this or know anything that can help me?
    Thanks!!
    Mike

Kudos! Added that to the iMovie News blog today too.

  • Compressor Or MPEG Streamclip To Make Files Smaller?

I currently use MPEG streamclip to make my mov files smaller and mp4 as it doesnt allow good quality MP4 exports from FCP and I was wondering what most use as Ive had trouble making the mp4 with XCam footage for a mov file from Streamclip as the quality is pixelated.

Time to read the docs for Compressor. You can use the inspector to see just what size of file to expect. Make sure you click on the compression setting of your clip...

  • Can't Open a File - help, please

I have a file in Flash that I was working on. I had to
restart my computer, and that file was open when I did this. Now,
whenever I try to open the file, it tells me there's not enough
memory to open it, but that the file's not damaged.
The thing is, since last opening the file, I didn't change it
much, and also, when I opened it last, I had many more windows and
programs open than I do when I try to open it now. Does anyone know
what's going on and/or how I can fix it and not lose the file? I've
been working on it for a while now...

I never have that problem before, but what I can say is:
6.46MB FLA is not BIG, I got some FLA more than 50MB, & I
can open it in laptopo with P4 processor & 512MB RAM
I worry it is corrupted. To make sure this, try open the file
    at another computer.
If you have the last published swf, decompile it back to FLA,
it might save part of your work.

  • Can't open fcp file-HELP!!!

after working on a tracksheet with no problems for a month it suddenly won't open - at about 27% open, it stops loading and i get general error (41) -
any ideas? HELP!!!!!!! - I've GOT to get in this thing!
    thx!

Its some sort of corruption. You can try trashing your renders.
You can also try saving a copy of your project to your desktop and unmount your drive(s) which contain your media and scratch discs (renders folder, capture scratch, etc...)
Then try to open your copy of the project file. It will probably open and tell you the files arfe offline. Mount your drive(s) and reconnect your files one at a time or in small groups. If its a corrupt media you should get the error when you reconnect it.

  • PSE 9 not opening Raw files - help please!!

I just had my laptop hard drive wiped and re-installed due to a virus, and have re-installed my PSE 9. It worked fine before, opening and processing raw files, but now it says it cannot recognise these files. Help someone - why is this happening and can it be fixed?? It looks to me like my Elements interface has changed too - has it been updated?
    thanks, Barb

Make sure the camera raw plug-in is up to date. Open the software and click Help >>Updates
Check all the available updates and install.

  • I have photoshop elements 5 and i cant open NEF files help

i am new to editing i set my camera on raw and now photoshope elements will not let me open the pic says wrong file how do i open them now.
    thank you

    Instructions:
Delete or move the existing Camera Raw 8bi file (see below) from the File Formats Folder.
Click and download the plug-in from the above link (R_Kellys link says for PSE6 but will definitely work with PSE5 also)
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see the plug-in file you need. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
If you are using a 64-bit edition of Windows, move and install the plug-in file by navigating to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
N.B. Before you start the download you need to do some preparation. Navigate to the File Formats Folder and move Camera Raw.8bi  I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents or drag it to the desktop before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
