MPEG vs ACC audio files

I've been listening to my MPEG and ACC audio files on my iPOD video for a few months now and I just noticed that my iPOD no longer has any of the MPEG audio files that I have in my iTunes library. Please help!

If you have mp3 versions (or some other version) of them sure. If you're asking if the AAC file of a MP3 counterpart is necessary, then the answer is no. They are two seperate and distinct files. Just different audio codecs.
It is completely up to you if you want to have AAC or MP3 files or whatever else. Just make sure you don't delete the only copy of your song is what I'm getting at.

  • MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^

MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^ and why wont the music files play anymore??

I reinstalled OSX on my macbook which previously played all avi files with no difficulties. Now I am having difficulties playing Avi files with quicktime PRO that use the Mpeg layer 3 codec. I have done the following with no success: downloaded flip 4 mac, divx, xvid, 3ivx, Xvid codecs, changed MIME settings, and deleted and reinstalled.
Depending on the specific version and sometimes the ordering in which they were installed, you may have created a conflict among the components here. While most current VidX components should be able to play MPEG Layer-3 audio, v5.1.1 is the only free VidX codec that is bi-directional. If that is not a problem, then I would recommend you remove (or "hide") all components in the main "Library > QuickTime" folder. Next I would determine if one (or more) of the AVI associated components can actually play the specific files mentioned on their own. You do this by installing a compenent to be tested, opening the player with one of the problem movies, and checking for correct audio and video playback. Log your results, close the player, remove the tested component, and move on to the next component to be tested. Once you deterime which component(s) may function correctly, I would then move on to determine which specific components are in conflict by repeating the tests but leaving the components installed after each test. In this case start with a component that is known to work and is the one you most desire to use (if more than one works). If the player stops working, then you have located a potential conflict. Set the offending component aside and continue testing until all components have been tested and are either installed or set aside. The last step is to simply evaluate component alternatives and configure you system for those files most often played. In my case the VidX v6 Pro components did not seem to get along with the 3ivX D4 v4.5 and/or Casio AVI and/or XVIDDelegate component combination.

  • Protected and Purchased ACC audio files

I have been upgrading to iTunes plus on alot my songs in itunes and now I have the same song twice in my libary, 1 as a Protected ACC audio file and 1 as a Purchased ACC audio file. Can I get rid of the protected file or do I have to keep both of the files

+"Can I get rid of the protected file"+
Of course. Why would you keep a crappy version around when you have a good version of the same song?

  • How do i convert to acc audio files

How do i convert to acc audio files

    Hello Red Teddy,
The following article contains steps for converting content from one format to another.
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
To convert a song's file format:
    Open iTunes Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.
From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.
Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):
    Create MP3 version
    Create AAC version
    Create AIFF version
    Create WAV version
    Create Apple Lossless version
If you haven't imported some songs into iTunes yet, you can import and convert them at the same time. This will create a converted copy of the file in your iTunes Library based on your iTunes preferences. To convert all the songs in a folder or on a disk, hold down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows) and choose Advanced > ConvertImport preference setting. The Import preference setting will match what you chose in step 3. iTunes will prompt you for the location of the folder or disk you want to import and convert. All the songs in the folder or on the disk will be converted. Note: Some purchased songs are encoded using a protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted. iTunes Plus purchases are not protected and can be converted.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library.
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • How do I move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer???

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • MPEG audio file from Itunes U not playing on my Shuffle.  :(

Some of the lectures on Itunes U are in MPEG audio file (format: MPEG-2 layer 3). I cannot seem to play this on my Shuffle (2nd gen). I tried converting to ACC using preference and the right click, but it does not work. Is there any other way? Thanks.

I just realized that also the ACC files from Itunes U won't work on my shuffle. When I press Play, it alternates green-orange flash which indicates that there are no music. ???

  • Exporting Pro CS4 videos to different mpeg formats-no video or separate audio file???

I have Premiere Pro CS4. When I export my video to mpeg-4 format, there is no video. When I export to mpeg-2DVD format, there is a separate wav audio file. Adobe Media Encoder, which I use automatically as the export encoding software, does not seem capable of combining the audio and video files into a single video. Export to mpeg-2 format works fune. When I try to export a 1 hr 20 min video in H.264 1440 x 1080 config, it is a 10GB file. I want the best quality that will fit on  4.7 GB or 8.5 GB media. What am I missing ?

Best thing is to use Dynamic Link/(Send to Encore. Set Encore to automatic and your movie will fit nicely on a dvd.
If you do not want to use DL then export from Premiere with the mpeg2-dvd settings (choose one of the presets or set it manually) with Multiplexing OFF.
Don't forget to set Use Max Render Quality ON.
This output will give you three files. m2v, wave and xmpses (and maybe a xmp file)
Import the first two as a timeline in Encore, make menu and burn.
Using a seperate video file and audio file is the way to go for making a dvd. If you set multiplexing to on then you will get one file containing video and audio.
Encore has to dumux (or demultiplex, separating video from audio) before being able to make the disk. Waist of energy.

  • Importing MPEG-4 audio files into itunes

    Hi,
I am a new user of iTunes. I am unable to import MPEG-4 audio files from an audio CD into my iTunes library. This audio CD was created by a friend on his MAC.
Interestingly, I am able to play the same MPEG-4 files through my Windows Media Player. I have the most recent and updated versions of Quicktime (7.4.5) and the most updated iTunes player for Windows (7.6.2.9). Coincidentally, the same audio CD has some MP3 files which I am able to import into iTunes with no problem.
    Would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Incidentally, I am able to play these same MPEG-4 files through my QuickTime player just fine.
    Thanks.

There's something else going on. When you search, the search box searches the Spotlight database that it created when indexing. It doesn't search the computer again. I suspect a hosed index. System Preferences->Spotlight->Privacy->delete all volumes and readd them back in. That should reindex the computer and all attached HDs. BTW, by default there are many places Spotlight doesn't return information from, mainly the various Library folders and the System folder. If you want to find everything, do this:
Click on the Desktop, CMD+F, click on Kind button, select Other, drill down to File invisible, check it, continue down to System files, check it, and click OK. Now, click on + button, click on the left-hand item and select System files and select are included, click on the plus button, click on the left-hand item and select File visibility and select visible or invisible, select File Name, save the search, drag its icon to the Dock, and use to search your entire Mac—currently starts with By Name, but Contents is available. I use this instead of CMD+F or CMD+spacebar for all searches.

  • Files converted automatically to Mp3 instead of mpeg when burned as audio files

Cannot maintain mpeg music playlist files when burning using audio file burn mode

They will be compressed to MP3 when published. It is always better to have an uncompressed file to start with, easier also to edit with audio software (Audition, Audacity) without quality loss. Be sure that it will be reduced largely when published. And please, don't shout.... why those big fonts?

  • Converting MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected) to MP3

New user purchasing tunes for my Lyrica MP3 player using daughters setup for IPod. Tunes downloaded in MPEG-4 audio file format and are 'protected'. When trying to convert to MP3 it won't because of its protected status. How can I convert them? If I already purchased the songs, can I go back and download them again in the MP3 format? Did I just waste my gift card and need to purchase them all again downloading them in MP3 format? Thanks

I too am interested in this answer. I am trying to copy files from my son's Itunes library to his PSP and it will not play protected files.

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.
